Politics / Give Fayemi “grade A” Ministerial Portfolio, Fayose Urges Buhari by Ayomidric(m): 5:17pm On Oct 25, 2015 |
Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State, has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to consider the State for one of the “Grade A” ministries, saying, “Ekiti State, being one of the States created last in the country, deserves a ministerial portfolio that will have direct impact on the people, not just a minister for the sake of federal character.” According to a statement issued on Sunday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose said his position was not to favour any individual but in the collective interest of Ekiti people.” He said all Ekiti indigenes must work together for the betterment of the State, not minding their political interests, adding that; “My interest, first and foremost is the collective good of Ekiti State and its people and I will continue to lend my voice to the promotion of Ekiti interests.” Governor Fayose, who said it was not enough for Ekiti State to have just a ministerial slot as provided in Section 15 (3) of the 1999 Constitution, added that President Buhari must give the Minister Designate from the State, former Governor, Kayode Fayemi, a portfolio that will benefit the State and its people.” “We don’t want just a ministry, we want a ministry that will be of direct benefit to our people and I am urging President Buhari to be mindful of our people’s expectation when allocating portfolios to the ministers designate. “Our people want one of the best ministries where developmental efforts of the State government can be adequately complemented, not just a ministry that will only be of benefit to the minister and his immediate family members,” the governor said. While urging Ekiti people to remain steadfast in their support for his government, Governor Fayose said; “the Ekiti project belongs to all and everything must be done to support it and as for me, Ekiti remains my priority.” He promised to continue to push for the employment of more Ekiti indigenes in federal establishments, noting that the State has been short-changed in the past in terms of employments into federal government establishments. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/10/give-fayemi-grade-a-ministerial-portfolio-fayose-urges-buhari/ |

Family / Rock Crushes Mother, Three Children To Death In Abeokuta by Ayomidric(m): 6:55am On Oct 11, 2015 |
One of the many rocks for which Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, is famous and named after, came crashing down on Friday night, crushing a family of four to death. Killed were a mother (Silifat Lawal); two of her children (Raaheedat,15, Semia,4); and a grandchild (Mariam). The heavy rock rolled off the height it had sat for hundreds of years at Iberekodo in Abeokuta North, smashing into the bedroom of the deceased who were fast asleep soon after having dinner. However, the head of the family Ismail Lawal and two other children – Sukurat and Rofiat- survived the assault on the modest home by the deadly rock. They were just a few steps away – relaxing in the sitting room – when the tragedy struck. They were injured, but that is not without injuring them seriously. Locals blamed Friday’s downpour for the incident. They said the rain appeared to have softened the base of the rock which gave way and made the rock to lose its balance. http://thenationonlineng.net/rock-crushes-mother-three-children-to-death-in-abeokuta/

Politics / Transformation Agenda Does Not Belong To PDP, Jonathan – Official by Ayomidric(m): 8:26am On Jul 13, 2015 |
The National Planning Commission, NPC, has said the Transformation Agenda does not belong to any political party. The Head of Information of NPC, Salisu Badamasi, told the News Agency of Nigeria on Sunday that the Transformation Agenda was an aspect of the Vision 20:2020. The Transformation Agenda was popularly identified with the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, administration of immediate past President Goodluck Jonathan. Mr. Badamasi, however, said that when Mr. Jonathan came into office, he identified the Vision 20:2020 and focused on them. He said that the four areas of focus of the Transformation Agenda were governance, human capital development, infrastructure and real sector. According to him, President Muhammadu Buhari’s administration will also continue to implement the master plan for Nigeria’s economic development. He added that “the Agenda is based on and draws its inspiration from the Vision 20:2020 and has three National Implementation Plan (NIP) arrangements. “The First NIP, which was from 2010 to 2013, had been implemented and reviewed by the commission and stakeholders. “It was aimed at bridging the infrastructure gap in the country and optimise the sources of economic growth to increase productivity and competitiveness. “It focused on knowledge-based economy to deepen the technology base of the country, improve governance, security, law and order. “Also, it fostered accelerated, sustainable social and economic development in a competitive business environment.” The NPC spokesman further explained that the second plan, which started in 2014, would be ending in 2017, while the third phase of the Plan would be between 2018 and 2020. Mr. Badamasi said that the NIP was generally based on a set of priority policies and programmes, which when implemented, would transform the Nigerian economy to meet the future needs of the Nigerian people. He also explained that the Plan captured all the development agenda of the country, including the Millennium Development Goals, MDGs. The official pointed out that the Vision 20:2020 defined and articulated the collective aspirations of the Nigerian people to become one of the top 20 economies in the world by the year 2020. “At the strategic level, it seeks to focus on, mobilise and coordinate the optimal application of Nigeria’s human and financial resources. “It focuses on human and financial resources toward the singular goal of providing accelerated human security, economic growth and social development in the country. “While opinions may vary regarding Nigeria’s ability to achieve these goals, most statistical indicators remain positive that vision 20:2020 is achievable.’’ The NPC is the agency of the Federal Government saddled with the responsibility of developing the Vision 20:2020. The commission has the statutory responsibility of coordinating social and economic development policies of the country. Politics / Jonathan Campaigners Lead Anti-jega Protest In Lagos by Ayomidric(m): 1:11pm On Mar 16, 2015 |
The Goodluck Jonathan Campaign Organisation in Lagos on Monday morning led others protesters to storm the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, demanding the sacking of the Chairman, Independent National Electoral Commission, Prof. Attahiru Jega, before the March 28 elections. The bus of the campaign group led the protesters, who were chanting anti-Jega songs and bearing different placards, from the Gbagada end of the expressway towards the defunct Tollgate area. Heavy traffic built up along the highway as the protesters, who were well protected by heavy police presence, took over one part of the road, grounding movement of other road users. The Movement for the Actualisation of the Sovereign State of Biafra on Friday protested in Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, among other locations in the South-East, calling for the immediate removal of Jega. On Sunday, the All Progressives Congress alleged that it had uncovered a plot by its Peoples Democratic Party counterpart to fund ethnic militias to protest and demand Jega’s sacking. It added that such ethnic militias included the Oodua Peoples Congress. It could not however be ascertained if the Congress was part of the Lagos Monday protest. Politics / We Didn’t Meet With Fg’s Delegation – Chibok Parents by Ayomidric(m): 7:21pm On Mar 06, 2015 |
The people of Chibok, where over 200 girls were abducted on April 14, 2014, from Government Secondary School, have denied that some parents of the missing girls met with representatives of the Federal Government. Minister of State for Power, Mohammed Wakil, through his Special Adviser on Media, Olawale Rasheed, had claimed that he met with some parents and relatives of the abducted schoolgirls on Thursday in Maiduguri. A statement by the Director of Publicity of Kibaku Area Development Association, Dr. Allen Manasseh, on Friday, said the minister had not told the truth concerning the identities of the people he met with, wondering why the media were not invited to cover such an important engagement. Manasseh said, “Barrister Mohammed Wakil, the Minister of State for Power, was never in any meeting with any parent of the abducted Chibok schoolgirls. “He met with some displaced people from his local government, Damboa.” Manasseh added that Wakil had shown his bias, saying the minister could not be a representative of people in Borno State. He said it was unfortunate that despite gaining political prominence as a member of the House of Representatives, representing Chibok, Damboa and Gwoza, Wali did not see himself as always welcome outside Damboa. He explained that a few women from Chibok at the meeting were politicians and associates of the minister, maintaining that they were not parents of the abducted schoolgirls or representatives of the people of Chibok town. He said, “I know the details of the meeting and it was never intended for Chibok parents of the abducted girls. The Chibok people and many more from southern Borno are even very angry with Barrister Mohammed Wakil. Ever since our people kept suffering and are still languishing under the effects of terrorism, he never for once come anywhere near us; he never shows sympathy for our situations. Manasseh said, “Mohammed Wakil should bury him head in shame and and we are waiting for him in Chibok whenever he deems fit to visit. But he should stop deceiving Nigerians of what he has never done. “The entire Chibok people are planning a media briefing to set the record straight. “All those who spoke at his meeting in Maiduguri did that on their personal level, not for the abducted girls parents or Chibok people in general.” www.punchng.com/news/we-didnt-meet-with-fgs-delegation-chibok-parents/ |
Politics / Opposition Leaders Behind Fuel Scarcity, Says mu’azu by Ayomidric(m): 4:06pm On Mar 02, 2015 |
National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, Adamu Mu’aazu, on Monday alleged that the current fuel scarcity in the country was sponsored by some opposition leaders. Mu’azu, in a series of tweets on his official Twitter page, alleged that the opposition leaders and some vested interests were behind the hoarding of fuel which, according to him, was responsible for fuel scarcity in the country. He, however, did not mention the names of the opposition leaders. The PDP chairman said the fuel scarcity was engineered to undermine the profile of President Goodluck Jonathan ahead of the elections. He said all plans to tarnish the image of Jonathan would not work. He said in the tweets, “Concerned Nigerians have drawn our attention to the fact that some opposition leaders and vested interest are behind hoarding of fuel. “Concerned Nigerians also draw our attention to plans by those who control the South-West disco to sabotage electricity in the zone. “We assure Nigerians, they will fail. All their plans to tarnish the image of government will fail like all other previous attempts. We want to assure concerned Nigerians, especially all of you here on social media, that we will reverse this trend soonest.” www.punchng.com/news/opposition-leaders-behind-fuel-scarcity-says-muazu/ 10 Likes 4 Shares |
