7. SHE HAS HIS MUMU BUTTON

Towima looked the room over one last time, he'd spent about an hour getting ready, his heart was beating twice as fast as it normally would, he just couldn't imagine that a girl would make him feel so anxious, Tomiwa for the girls, always repping the boys anytime anyday, he was sure his guys would make him a laughing stock if they found out what was going through his mind at the moment. He stepped back from the couch to take another look after arranging the throw pillows for the upteenth time.

"B, oya, help me use your female eyes to scan this place." Tomiwa asked, a note higher than his usual voice and B shrugged. Twenty minutes later, Tomiwa was still pacing up and down his living room, he loved people that kept to time but somehow, this was different, he'd normally have called the girl to inform her of her lateness but he just couldn't do anything now, his anxiety was so large that he couldn't think straight, then it happened, Tomiwa heard 'grrrrrriiiiinggg' of the bell and he froze, it was her!
He rushed out to answer the gate.

"Hi..." he said
"Hi" she replied
"Um, I don't know what to say, I um..."
"Well, you could start by letting me in." She replied with a replica of the smile he'd seen at the mall, the girl was really pretty even while frowning and he just couldn't survive the smile so he stepped aside for her to go in, B whistled at the girl's backside and Tomiwa winked at her, B had been the brain behind this meeting, he really wasn't interested in the magic she'd performed but he was sincerely grateful to her for the very first time.

**********
"... Jeez, Akin calm down, which chic be that sef?"
"Bolly, this girl set die, as take invite am come my house sef, na God hand e dey." Tomiwa said excitedly and the boys roared into laughter, all hailing Tomiwa for another job well done, they already knew the outcome of his meeting without being told.
"But eyin guys yi e calm down (you guys should calm down) we didn't do anything, I don't know but somehow I just had to respect myself with her, I couldn't even mention a hug..." Tomiwa was saying but he had to stop mid-sentence, all five of his friends were staring at him wide-eyed, not believing what he was saying, even B was laughing.

"But Akintee, you fall my hand o, Wetin be this thrash wey you dey talk?" one of the guys asked with disappointment written all over his face.
"Chai..." the second exclaimed "... you wey I dey look up to, you just fall, infact na cut you cut my hand comot abi which kain life be this"
"Ah! Mogbe! Mo daran! Aye mi temi bami, Ah! Akintee don kill me finish, anyways sha, before I say anything, I gat to see this girl." The third said finally and it was done, the discussion was over.

6. SUMMON HER

Angel B

This episode is really me ranting, just because this is my first time being a guardian angel and all those my seniors think I can't do it!!!
Okay, it was a beautiful Sunday morning and I'd just failed to persuade Elijah to go to church even though I'd liased with his mom's guardian to invite him, he'd still insisted on staying at home because he'd a movie to see. Some angels had spoken to the Almighty about my 'conduct' and HE summoned me in front of a panel.

****
Almighty: B, I believe you know why you're here.
B: Yes LORD
Almighty: I have watched you so far but being the fair and just God that I am, I have decided to have this hearing.
(B nods her agreement)
Almighty: In order not to waste any more time since all of us have so many things to do, I'll go straight to the point. How many of you, present here and now, take offence at the way B does her job (of the thirty angels present, twenty three raised their hands) Wow! B! Can you see this??
B: Yes LORD, but you are the Almighty, the only wise God, I await your judgement.
Elder 1: B, based on this short hearing, I believe you should know by now that you should put in more effort. (B nods again)

The hearing continued for two earthly hours, I had my mission statement re-read to me but for the wonderful twenty four elders and my precious advocate and ofcourse the supreme judge of heaven and earth, those angels might have replaced me, not that they can but they could have.
Now, I don't really understand this angels o, shebi I am the guardian angel and Elijah is my ward, I believe I understand him better than any of them so trying to teach me the best way to guard Elijah is totally uncalled for. Anyways, let me conclude by saying that your life might be like Elijah's but that doesnt't mean the LORD doesn't have need of you, your guardian angel might just be like me giving you ample time to get spent with worldliness so that by the time you drop it, you won't miss or want to go back to it.

5. I LIKE HER

B sat watching her ward, it had been two days since he discovered that she could read his mind and he still hadn't said anything not that she really needed him to speak but she just wasn't sure which of the plans he would execute. Now watching him sleep, she saw the streams of ideas flowing like a river, apart from being really handsome, Tomiwa had enough brains to sweep any girl off her feet but instead, his brain was lying fallow while he used up his father's money on girls. He stirred then lay face up with a smile plastered on his face, B giggled when she realized what made him smile from his sleep 'Baba God, please don't be angry with me, this is the most effective way I can think of helping Elijah." She said, she had a choice to be strict and call Tomiwa to order the hard way but owing to her own nature, the hard way won't do either of them any good.

***

The party was a huge success for Tomiwa, he'd made out with a girl and promised to contact two others, he was super happy because B had helped, she was his new partner in crime. They'd worked out a routine of communication so nobody would mistake Tomiwa for a mad man again.

"B, which one should I take first?" Tomiwa asked as he settled in the drivers seat of his BMW 2006 3 series convertible, why wouldn't any girl fall for when he was driving one of the latest model car.
"Take that Aisha girl." B said after a moment's thought.
"Ehehn, but the other girl, em, what's that her name again o..."
"Kelly..."
"Yes, Kelly, she's got more asset na..." B smiled to herself, she had her own plans too, her goal was to help Tomiwa get out of his worldliness and that was exactly what she was doing even though it seemed she was doing the opposite.
"Abeg, who is the angel? Shebi na me dey see her mind." B replied calmly and Tomiwa smiled, he licked his lips greedily and nodded in agreement.
"True, fair point well made, I just hope you don't sly me o because if..."
"Elijah, may I remind you that no matter what you say, your threats are empty."
"Whatever." He replied rolling his eyes and drove home.

***

The mall was very busy, typical of a festive season, Tomiwa was, as usual, one hour early to his date scanning the area for a girl to scope.
"Elijah, have you seen that babe pressing her phone?" B asked and Tomiwa looked up, he couldn't reply so he just nodded, the girl was the real definition of a damsel, but all Tomiwa could see were her full bust and her round butt tight packed in the shorts she wore, he took two steps towards her but B called him back.

"She's here with someone." She said and Tomiwa gave her a 'how do you know' look.
"Well, I'll advice you to wait and watch." B replied calmly. Tomiwa wanted to hiss but the family beside him would notice so he just stood, his mind was all over the place, he'd suddenly lost interest in the girl he was waiting for, all he could think of was this beauty across the room then she looked up and their eyes met briefly as she scanned the room.

"She looked at me." Tomiwa blurted out and the child beside him jumped, her father held her tightly and led his family away from Tomiwa.
"Shey you know you're acting like a mad man and this has nothing to do with me." B said.
"Abeg free me jare." Tomiwa replied and the guy paying for a smoothie took two steps away from him. Tomiwa had had enough of the torture, he'd been watching the girl for over ten minutes and nobody had come to claim her.

Just as he decided to walk over to her side, his date called and he completely ignored he because she was five minutes too early to be calling him.

"Hi." He said when he got to her side. This beautiful stranger had the most beautiful smile Tomiwa had ever seen, her dentition was perfect, her smile flattered her dimpled cheeks and the fact that her face was bare of make-up shook Tomiwa and he literally rocked on his heel, right there and then, he concluded that her beauty was illegal.

"Hi." She replied still smiling.
"I'm so sorry, I..." Tomiwa was suddenly short of words, B's jaw literally dropped to the ground, how could her own Akintomiwa Elijah Folorunsho be tongue-tied because of a girl?
"Sorry for?" The girl asked innocently.
"Oh, um, so sorry, you look like someone I know, um, sorry for bothering." He said and turned sharply on his heel visibly mad at himself. B decided that the girl would be useful to her so she made plans with her own angel...

But the book is saying the former is correct oh
Well, it depends on the context of the sentence, with my little knowledge of grammar, 'congregation' could be a collective now and it takes the singular form or it could represent a group of people.
In my opinion, 'congregation' as used in the statement suggests that it is singular but if you think it is plural, you use 'are'.
I may be wrong, but I hope I have been able to backup my answer, suggestions are welcome.

4. WE CAN WORK TOGETHER

"Guy, how far you na, we dey AJ side, you dey come?" Tomiwa, looked at the phone once again to be sure he'd properly seen the caller ID, Jide! He thought, how could Jide of all people invite him to a church program...

"Hello... Hello... Akintee, you still dey there..." Tomiwa had had enough of this madness so he hung up.
First, it was his 'so-called' guardian angel whom he was beginning to doubt because she behaved more like a demon, always showing up and ruining the moment and now Jide! His best friend and partner in crime was inviting him to church program, he wondered how Jide's conscience could let him think about church.

"Mtchew..." he hissed and slid lower in the armchair.
"Elijah, wetin dey sup na?" B asked and Tomiwa eyed her, he was now suspicious of her every move, he'd fallen in her traps so much and he wasn't ready to be fooled again.
"You don't want to answer me abi, okay, no wahala..."
"Abeg B, I'm tired of you, you always frustrate me, everywhere I turn, I see you, everything I do, I see you, which day you go even free me sef ehn, I am tired jare, now look at me sitting at home, bored to the marrow, no nice babe to warm my bed, just on Saturday, you made me lose two girls, I haven't had sex since Friday and today na Wednesday, B, abeg, I don dey doubt you o, are you sure you're an angel of God sha abi an angel of the devil and you've just come to frustrate me ehn, abeg kuku kill me and end my misery jare abi which kain wahala be dis sef"
"Are you done?" B asked with amusement written all over her face, Tomiwa felt like strangling her but that just wasn't possible so he hissed again.
"You can't strangle me." B said plainly and looked straight at Tomiwa who slid from the chair.
"W-w-w-why would you say a thing like that?" he asked B
"Because that's what you were saying in your mind na..."
"Jesu mi o... So you mean you can read my mind?"
"Before nko..." B replied rolling her eyes.
"I see..." Tomiwa said grinning mischievously and B shook her head knowing exactly what he had in mind, somewhere at the back of her mind, she heard angel Gabriel complaining to the Almighty that she wasn't doing her job well but that was for the almighty to decide so she smiled and decided to humour Tomiwa, at least for her to change his ways, he had to like her first so they could work as a team and then that was how the second phase of their journey began...

3. READ MY MIND

"You can't be here" Tomiwa said protestingly to angel B, he was in the toilet to pee but he couldn't because angel B was staring at him.
Angel B clapped her hands thrice

"You are one ignorant mortal Elijah, I've been your guard since the moment you were born, I've been going everywhere and doing everythig with and for you and now you're shy to pee in my presence?" Angel B replied with a smirk.
"See, I'm not contesting the fact that you're my guard or that you know me but ah, ah, make yourself invicible till I'm done, at least that would make me feel better." Tomiwa argued
"Dear Elijah, that won't change anything, I can still see you." Tomiwa rolled his eyes.
"But I can't and it would make me feel less guilty."
"Oh, I see, you want to masturbate again abi..."
"Ssshhhhh! Ahahn, see the way you're shouting, somebody might hear you na." Tomiwa begged and angel laughed.
"Ehehn so you're not proud about it abi. Anyways, you're the only one that can hear me."
"Okay, now would you please be kind enough to be invicible?" and with that angel B became invicible giving Tomiwa some space.

****

As was his usual practice, Saturday afternoons were dedicated to the latest fish in the net, and because there was always a new fish every week, Tomiwa sat at a table in a fast food restaurant, pressing his phone. Now getting used to angel B's visibility, he felt relaxed waiting for the girl he'd met only two days ago, the plan was simple, make her feel comfortable, impress her, invite her over to his flat, take her to bed and she didn't respond positively, there was a plan B hidden somewhere in his head. He'd come an hour earlier than his appointment just in case he met another lady to scope. He was always lucky with girls and he just knew that his plans for the night just wouldn't go wrong but he was wrong on this beautiful Saturday afternoon.

"B..." Tomiwa called
"Yeah?"
"See that chick."
"Wetin do am."
"The girl fine die, I'm going to talk to her." Angel B smiled, her mischievous ward was at it again, he was just insatiable. She smiled again because the girl in question looked Tomiwa's way, part of her job description was to help Tomiwa quell his worldly ways, well it was her main target, so she decided to play a prank.

"Elijah..."
"Yeah?"
"You're staring indecently at that girl, I think you're making her blush." she said
"Really? You think so, this is one of the reasons why I love a female guardian angel." B rolled her eyes, Tomiwa was playing right into her hands.
"Yeah, I know a few tricks that would help you get her sharp sharp..." she continued.
"Ooooshey baddest angel ever liveth, oya ja mi si."
"First off, you'll keep staring at her while I'm talking and I'll do the rest." she said with a mischievous grin she was sure Tomiwa would mis-interprete.

At the table next to theirs, the young couple were stealing glances at Tomiwa, probably thinking he was nuts for talking to himself, angel B's plan was working, after a while, B told Tomiwa he could approach the girls' table and he did feeling cool with himself.

"Um, girls, I need to leave." The lady smiled and stood the moment Tomiwa opened his mouth to say 'hello'
"Hey, let me walk you, I just walked up here..."
"Abeg, abeg, abeg Mr man, just carry your madness away from this table or do you think I didn't see you talking and laughing to yourself or maybe the spirits that are following you? Abeg oga, na God I take beg you just carry yourself away." She said sternly without raising her voice, her friends all burst into laughter so did B. Tomiwa was about to shout a string of abusive words at B but realized that it would only make matters worse so he just smiled and stalked out of the restaurant, too angry with himself for allowing B fool him so much.

2. I SEE YOU

GreatCracker

23 year old Tomiwa lay asleep, peacefully, on his bed, oblivious of the goings-on around him, angel B sat patiently at the foot of his bed, waiting for him to at least stir but he didn't, how could Tomiwa the great wake up so early on a Saturday morning, having drank himself to a standstill the previous night, he slept like a child.

Angel B was getting impatient with this mortal, she hadn't been briefed on her job description but she knew she couldn't shake him awake so she waited, after two heavenly hours, she just couldn't take it anymore so she decided to state her case with the Almighty.

Angel B: Baba God, I am tired o, this guy has not moved since now.
Almighty: Patience my dear, he'll wake up soon.
Angel B: How soon na, I am tired o.
Almighty: Look, he's awake.

Back on earth, Tomiwa stirred on his four-by-six bed, his mom had really taken her time to pick the best furniture for his apartment, angel B hissed. "Wake up jare sleepy head" she said with a scowl.

Tomiwa shook his head, he didn't remember bringing home the olosho he'd banged at the club, he was probably hearing things so he lay back on his pillow, grateful that his mom knew the right texture he loved.

"Ahahn, see this one o, wake up jare." angel B said again as the scowl on her heavenly face deepened. Tomiwa turned to look in the direction of the voice and what he literally made him jump out of his skin and off the bed in one swift move,

"Aaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrgggggghhhh!" He screamed and this was his undoing, angel B laughed so hard, the sound of her laughter being different from that of a mortal actually terrified Tomiwa, his skin became instantly pale.

"Calm down jare..." angel B said when she finally stopped laughing "...look at you, Tomi the great, Tee mighty, Akin tee for life bla bla bla are those not your nicknames, how I wish one of those girls you always pose for could see you now."

"P-pu-p-pl-pl-plea-plea-please ma, who, who a-a-a-are you?"

"Oh, sorry about that, I'm your guardian angel."

"Guard what, wait wait wait a minute, am I supposed to see an angel, am I supposed to be talking to an angel? Oh my God, I am dead, have you come to take me to heaven, my God, I didn't even get the chance to say goodbye to my mom, LORD, NO! I can't die now, please, give me one more day, please let me at least leave a note for my family, where is my body, have they buried me, how come it's only my spirit that his talking to you, if I just died then my body should still be on the bed now, yeh! I am finished, please aunty angel when did I die, yeh! please how did I die, yeh! aye mi temi bami..." Tomiwa asked cried with free flowing tears.

"Look at you, so the great Akin is scared of death, if I say you are a fool now (ANGEL B!!! the Almighty thundered BE CAREFUL OF YOUR LANGUAGE) Lord, I am sorry but these mortals can be such a hand full. Now back to you and your ranting, you asked if I'm here to take you to heaven, you self look at your life since you went to study abroad and judge if you can enter heaven."

"I know, and I am sorry (sniff) please forgive me, Yeh! I don't want to go to hell fire, please o, for my mother's sake, please forgive me, my mom is a prayer warrior, she prays for me a lot, if I go to hell she'll see the vision and know, please I don't want to diaappoint her, please take me to heaven..." Tomiwa pleaded on his knees.

"Just shut up, my ear is already paining me because of this rubbish you're saying, anyways, your fear of death and hell has made you forget that you have a bad headache from your hangover..." Tomiwa touched his head and felt the pounding in it, so he wasn't dead afterall so who was this pretty yet scary woman and what was she doing, un-invited, in his room.

"My name is angel B, and like I said earlier, I am your guardian angel, the reason why you can see me is because God has need of you..."

Now Tomiwa could breathe, he heaved a sigh of relief and sat on his heel, somehow he didn't doubt this woman but he knew he still had to question her further but for now, he was glad that he was still alive, now he could think of all the plans he'd made for the night.
