Hello everyone. In the past few years, I have certainly learnt a lot from Nairaland. However, I would also love to give back to this great community based on my knowledge and experience. I have spent many years in the pharmacy space as a pharmacist and one question I often hear from customers, friends and colleagues is: where can I get this [name of drug]? I also noticed that this question isn't just unique to me, I have seen threads and posts created here that ask similar questions. It has been a concern to me for a while, so I decided with a couple of like minded colleagues to create a system that gives quick access to the inventory of pharmacies and pharmaceutical companies (both local and international). This makes it easy for you to easily find the drug, supplements or health device that you are looking for, no matter how scarce you might think it is. I can also arrange with the pharmacies where necessary to provide convenient and fast delivery service to your specific location. Let's keep the request rolling in and I'd certainly do my best in taking you a step closer to a healthier you. |
Laura had accompanied her sick friend Joyce to the health centre. The doctor had requested for some tests to be carried out, one of which was a HIV test. Joyce had jokingly asked Laura if she was interested in the HIV test as well, an offer she had politely declined. ‘It’s free’ the lab attendant added.’ ‘I don’t need it. I’m not the sick one’ Laura replied A few minutes later Joyce’s results were out and her HIV test read negative. ‘You see, it’s no big deal.’ Joyce said’ ‘Maybe, it was no big deal, Laura thought.’ After a while, she finally allowed herself to be tested. Few minutes later, she tested positive. We often come across myths (like the one above) about sexually transmitted diseases. This article is an attempt to examine and debunk some of them. MYTH 1: If you have an STD, you will know. FACT: STDs are not always obvious. As long as you are having unprotected sex, you are prone to STDs. An example is seen in the scenario above. MYTH 2: If s/he has an STD, you will know. FACT: Some STDs don’t have obvious symptoms at their onset. For instance, herpes symptom can lie dormant for weeks before an outbreak. In other words, you can’t tell who has an STD by how ‘clean’ they look. MYTH 3: Prompt use of antibiotics immediately after intercourse is an antidote to STD. FACT: It’s not uncommon to see people walk into the pharmacy requesting for Ampiclox® after unprotected sex. Here it is, using antibacterial drugs do not protect you from STDs because not all of them are caused by bacteria. Some are caused by viruses, others by… Prior to treating an STD, laboratory investigations have to be carried out to ascertain what type(s) of infection. MYTH 4: You can’t get an STD from MouthAction. FACT: Infections like gonorrhoea, chlamydia and herpes can be passed through MouthAction, if your partner has mouth ulcer or an open sore. MYTH 5: We’ve both been tested so we are safe FACT: Not every STD screening is comprehensive for all types of sexually transmitted infection. For instance, Pap smears test for cervical abnormalities caused by high-risk types of HPV, but they will not detect many other strains of the virus. MYTH 6: You can get an STD from a toilet seat FACT: It is very unlikely that anyone will contract an STD from a toilet seat. STDs are usually spread through direct (skin-to-skin) sexual contact or by coming in contact with infected body fluids during vaginal or anal sex. Although rare, you may be able to get pubic lice (crabs) during contact with objects (e.g. bed sheets, toilet seats, clothing etc.) In conclusion, the risk of contracting is STDs is lower when you stick to a partner and get tested often. good day house, I've been silently following this thread for a while now. I just got an admission for my MSc at University of Alabama for spring 2015 (jan 5) but I want to defer for two reasons. My sponsor says I should wait till fall 2015 cos the time is too close for him to provide the funds and I want to compare their offer with the other schools which I applied to for fall 2015 and pick the best in terms of scholarship/fellowship opportunities. Pls feedback needed asap. Thank you. |

The balance of fairness till today tilts towards those who live healthily with occasional headaches and tiredness from heavy works.Any human suffering from a terminal ailment would do anything to attain healthy living. I would forever be grateful to my parents for their ceaseless love despite the heavy burden I constitute in their lives, they are steadfast in caring for me.November 2008 was when it all began I suffered from Cerebrovascular Accident (CVA).I was only 13years of age.I was in coma for 3days and woke up with amnesia and a reduced strength of vision. It was not easy learning everything from the scratch again but God saw me through. After this incident,I was diagnosed of sickle cell nephropathy. All this while, I have been a known patient at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH). On the 7th of November 2012,my mother noticed that I was unusually pale and took me to see my doctors. After careful examinations and medical investigations,I was diagnosed with stage 3 chronic kidney disease and ever since the story of my life has changed.I frequent the hospital now more than anyone could imagine.I have been managed well at the LUTH but right now this illness has advanced and I have reached a stage where kidney transplant is inevitable.Managing my renal problems coupled with taking care of two other sickle cell carriers have had serious financial tolls on my parents. The estimated cost of this surgery is Seven Million Naira (7Million). On behalf of my family,I beseech you well-meaning humans,I carry a soul that is probably identical to yours in all function except that my body is a bit sick. Please don't allow this sickness that has stolen my kidneys jack away my precious heart before my parent's eyes. I had been hearing a lot about this particular brand of bitters but I never really understood why so many love it. I went ahead to interact with several of its users and based on their feedbacks, coupled with a little research/analysis, here I am writing this. According to the Kasapreko company, makers of Alomo bitters, it is a herbal alcoholic product made from carefully chosen tropical plant extracts and it is very well known for its proven medicinal values. It has its roots in the traditional herbal industry that is meticulously researched by the Centre for …Well, let me spare you all that story. Mr James, a 42 year old banker calls it a wonderful aphrodisiac, Kola, a bricklayer says it’s an effective remedy for his back aches, body pains, and pile. Sergeant Haruna even claims it is a very good energizer and immune booster. Yet several others see it as a cheap means to get high. Its alcohol content is 42% and a small bottle of 200ml cost less than $2. Since 2009, Alomo bitters has been meeting the health and ‘other’ needs of its users, however, there have been many unsavoury tales about alomo as it is popularly called. Having interacted with consumers, sellers and distributors, the cause of this has been linked to the presence of a lot of fakes (counterfeit alomo) in the market. This is due to the fast-moving rate of this product and as such a lot of people want to make some quick cash off it. Furthermore, due to its intoxicating effect, many tend to abuse it, taking much more than needed. As a pharmacist, I believe the way to address this, is to enlighten the public on the right dose and the appropriate way of use. The Kasapreko company did not exactly indicate how much of the bitters that could be taken for its purported health effects. However based on the little information they gave and our knowledge of ‘bitters’ products generally, a dose of 30 ml which is 2 tablespoonful is to be taken per time-dose. This could then be repeated two or three more times in a day. In this way you can maximize the health effects without incurring any adverse long term effects. Unfortunately, we see people drink as much as two or three bottles of 200 ml at a sitting claiming it makes them ‘feel alright’. This is an outright abuse. If you take so much over a long period of time, you may get the positive health results on the short term but be sure that it will be accompanied, by the unpleasant health effects of alcohol as time goes on. The long term health effects of taking more than the required amount irrespective of it’s alleviating ‘bitters’ effect is basically the same as taking excess of vodka, whisky or rum. Some of these possible adverse effects include anaemia, increased risk of cancer and stroke, liver cirrhosis and reduced fertility. In addition, addiction could occur and that’s just a next door neighbour to various forms of mental illnesses. Finally, Alomo bitters is a NAFDAC certified product but there are a lot of counterfeits in the market, it is therefore important that you purchase from registered stores and pharmacies not just from any street hawker around.. The leading cause of amputation and non-genetic loss of vision. A disease that has affected many families from nuclear to extended. Linked with genetics, excess weight and lack of exercise, diabetes has been managed with measures from lifestyle modification, oral hypoglycemic agents to insulin injections. Unfortunately, these therapies are not without their short comings. Insulin for instance is associated with the inconvenience of frequent needle pricks, this may be done up to three times in one day. However, reports reaching us from Harvard Stem Cell Institute (HSCI) shows that a hormone that holds promise for a dramatically more effective treatment of type 2 diabetes has been found. The researchers believe that the ...continue in this link http://www.rxpertcare.com/diabetes-breakthrough-in-sight/ |
WHY YOU SHOULD POP THAT PILL ‘Sir, you would need to take each of these medicines as stated on the envelopes for the next three months‘. As you leave the pharmacy, you mutter to yourself, “See as he was smiling and saying it. Does he know what it means to take something for a whole three months? This is just not fair. I know myself; once I’m better I would stop”. Can you relate to that? Or maybe yours wasn’t that long, but it required you waking up at an odd hour in the middle of the night to pop that pill. You were expected to take it for a week, but forgot to use it on the fourth day, and you ...continue in link http://www.rxpertcare.com/why-you-should-pop-that-pill/ |
