Former President Goodluck Jonathan has decided to run for president in 2023, barely 48 hours after disowning a nomination form procured for him by a northern group.

Mr Jonathan had on May 9 rejected presidential expression of interest and nomination forms of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) bought for him by a Fulani group. He later visited APC chairman Abdullahi Adamu, a shuttle his aides said was to distance himself from the purchase.

Citing a credible source in Mr Jonathan’s camp, state-run newswire, News Agency of Nigeria, reports that Mr Jonathan has finally made up his mind to vie for the top post he lost to the incumbent in 2015.

The source, pleading anonymity, told NAN that the former president has also joined the APC formally, having registered at his Otuoke Ward in Bayelsa.

Meanwhile, Mr Jonathan is expected to submit the duly filled forms bought on his behalf on Thursday, the source offered further.

According to the source, the former president has secured the support of the required number of APC delegates from across the 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory.

“Several bigwigs of the party have also been calling Jonathan to pledge their loyalty and support to the former president,’’ the source revealed.

The source told NAN political correspondent late on Wednesday that some influential African leaders had called Mr Jonathan earlier on Monday to advise him “to contest the election in the interest of Nigeria.

“At least three top African leaders called the former president on the matter. They all urged him to run.

“One of them specifically told him that it didn’t make sense travelling all over Africa settling disputes only to shy away from leadership responsibility in his home country.

“Another reminded him of the implication of failing to put the experiences he garnered as a former Nigerian president and as a continental statesman to good use,” the source added but did not mention the names of the African leaders.

The source cited some of the African leaders as telling Jonathan that Nigeria was passing through challenging times and “needed a unifier like Jonathan at this time’’.

Mr Jonathan, who lost power to incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari, was born in 1957 in the Ogbia district in Bayelsa State.

He was previously of the PDP party on whose platform he ruled Nigeria until he lost the presidential election to Buhari in 2015.

Nigeria’s Attorney-General, Malami Opens Multi-billion Naira Hotel Few Days After Distributing Exotic Vehicles To APC Supporters

Abubakar Malami, Nigeria’s Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF), has opened “The Azbir,” a new hotel in Birnin Kebbi, Kebbi State.

The hotel is the latest addition to the minister’s extensive portfolio of multibillion-naira enterprises.

The massive construction is located along Sani Abacha Byepass in Birnin-Kebbi, according to SaharaReporters.

“The Azbir hotel was launched today, there were supposed to do opening ceremony, but because of the recent pressure that they got from media for the cars he gave out to people, they canceled the opening ceremony. But it’s opened already,” a source told SaharaReporters on Tuesday evening.

This is coming a few days after the minister distributed over 100 exotic cars to ruling All Progressives Congress members ahead of the party’s governorship primary in Kebbi State.

Malami had last Thursday declared interest in the Kebbi State governorship race.

Exotic vehicles such as Toyota Prado, Lexus, Toyota Hilux, and Mercedes-Benz vehicles were given to them during the weekend.

Malami, a lawyer from Kebbi State who was hardly known before 2015 when he was appointed into the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari, is today one of the richest men in Nigeria.

In 2020, a series of detailed investigations carried out by SaharaReporters showed that Malami had acquired several properties whose value run into many billions of naira since being appointed into the administration of President Muhammadu Buhari as Nigeria’s chief law officer.

For example, the AGF has an underground hotel in Sokoto, three houses at Peace Estate, Abuja, a brand new state-of-the-art school in Kebbi, two houses for his sons worth N100m each and a new hotel under construction in the Jabi area of Abuja.

Malami also bought a house this year worth N150million in the Gwarimpa area of Abuja.

The newly constructed school is located at the back of NITEL in Gesse Phase 1, Birnin Kebbi, while a new house worth N600m on Ahmadu Bello Way, Nasarawa GRA, Kano, are among properties acquired by Malami since he became a minister under President Buhari.

The houses he built for his sons in Kebbi are 200 metres apart in a posh part of the city.

That is not all. Malami also built a N3billion multipurpose event centre in Kebbi State named Azbir Arena for his son in Kebbi.

The facility is said to be an entertainment centre with a plaza and kids playing section and an ongoing hotel all in one place.

This is apart from Rayhaan Hotel located on Zaria Road, opposite Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital, which the AGF massively upgraded using proceeds of corruption.

Ever since SaharaReporters published a series of detailed reports exposing these illicit acquisitions, the online news medium has been a target for the AGF’s camp.

Apart from falsely claiming to have sued SaharaReporters over the expository reports he said had damaged his reputation before the world, Malami also issued a petition to the former Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Adamu, on the issue to arrest the Publisher of the online newspaper, Omoyele Sowore.

Despite these questionable acquisitions, 53-year-old Malami continues to portray a saintly stance in the Buhari government whose fight against corruption has been called into serious question in recent times.

The Grater Nigeria Conference held today, Monday, the 25th April, 2023 at the Internation Conference Centre, Abuja.
The conference was aimed at uniting the more all Igbos across party line that have indicated interest to aspire for President of our dear country, Nigeria.
The event witnessed great presence of dignitaries across the country including Prof. George Obiozor , President General Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo (represented), Pa Ayo Adebanjo, Leader Afenifere, Dr. Okwy Nwodo, Sen. Chris Anyanwu.
Others include, Sen. Anyim Pius Anyim, Rochas Okorocha, GCON, Dr. Chris Ngige, Mr. Peter Obi, Mr. Sam Ohuabunwa among others.

The Chairman planning committee His Excellency, Dr. Okwy Nwodo in his opening address averred that injustice to one is injustice to all. That 2023 offers Nigeria a great opportunity to heal the wounds of the civil war. He recounted how all Nigerians rallied round in support of Obasanjo notwithstanding that he appeared not too popular within his region. He unequivocally concluded that it is time for Nigerians to rally round Igbos and elect one of them as her president come 2023.

The Chairman of the conference, represented by Dr. Igariwe former President General, Ohaneze Ndi-Igbo in his remakes defined fairness as equity and justice. He therefore requested Nigerians to be fair to Ndi-Igbo.

Chief Edwin Clark, who was a special guest of honour went the memory lane and concluded that people of southeast deserve reciprocal love and respect from other regions. "...Let other regions please concede to Igbo Presidency come 2023, so we can continue to stand on three legs.

Dr. Pogu Bitrus, President, Middle Belt Forum who was a special guest of honour in his key note address noted that this is another opportunity and time for BUHARI to right the wrong of his wrong of 1983 coup... "If zoning mattered in 2015, it does matter again now. We need healing, we need forgiveness of each other and then accommodate each other", he retraited.

The Leader of Afenifere, Pa Ayo Adebanjo insisted that it is because of the greed of the Northern ruling class that the argument of zoning appear prominent in the polity today. You cannot change the goal post at the middle of the game. Zoning is sacrosanct he said
