Politics › Re: Nigeria Lacks Institutions, Systems, To Prevent Corruption – Okonjo-iweala by Baawaa(m): 6:15am On Feb 18, 2015
Abuja – The Minister of Finance, Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, said on Tuesday that corruption persisted in the country because Nigeria lacked the institutions, systems and processes to prevent it. Okonjo-Iweala made this known when she spoke on the Topic: `Preventing Leakages in the Nigerian Economy` at the Catholic Caritas Foundation Forum in Abuja. Okonjo-Iweala According to her, the absence of the relevant systems and institutions that will help check corruption has created opportunities for people to engage in the act. “This thing has been with us and
we must crack it. This is not something that started in this country today; but it is something that we must crack. “Fundamentally, we have to ask ourselves, why has this continued to be a problem; I am convinced that it is because we constantly look at the symptoms and not the cause of the disease. “The cause of the disease is we don’t have in place the institutions,
This is from the mouth of minister of finance! That means our number one problem as a nation is CORRUPTION,invariably, we need Buhari to do the job.

Politics › Re: No Missing $20 Billion >> Sanusi Lied. by Baawaa(m): 7:50pm On Feb 17, 2015
LLVelly:
I am led to this sad conclusion after PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) submitted its forensic audit report of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation(NNPC). In a nutshell, PWC reveals there was no such thing as 'missing 20billion dollars' as alleged by former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria(CBN), Mallam Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, who today sits pretty atop the royal throne of Kano as the Emir. The company says the National Petroleum Development Company(NPDC). a subsidiary of the NNPC needs to complete the process of remitting to the federation account the outstanding sum of 1.48billion USD being an amount it earned from the sales of its assests. It also recommended the reform of operations of the NNPC,as they are no longer in tune with modern best practices.
PWC is a world class professional service company. There are only three others in its rank: KPMG, EY and Deloitte. PWC is the second largest of the lot. If PWC conducts a forensic audit and concludes that there was no ''stolen'' or ''missing'' money, that is case closed.
Let it however be noted that the President Goodluck Jonathan administration is the first presidency to probe itself. It has never happened before. This regime probed itself twice withing eighteen months and successfully proved its innocence. It went beyond the Senate, which is constitutionally empowered to carry out the probe. It brought in a world class firm to confirm it. Before now, it was either successive regimes that probed earlier ones to buy legitimacy, or they simply did nothing about alleged missing moneys. Obasanjo even probed Buhari's Petroleum Trust Fund (PTF) and it was discovered that 25billion Naira was ''misappropriated''. Yet not only did Obasanjo sweep the report under carpet,he has even come forward to endorse the same Buhari for election as President.
That is the country we live in.

Politics › Obasanjo Opens Up: I Don't Want Jonathan To Collapse Nigeria by Baawaa(op): 6:39pm On Feb 17, 2015
President Olusegun Obasanjo has given reasons why he publicly tore his PDP membership card. The man who is widely respected both in Africa and around the world, said he took the action to maintain his image as a revered statesman, locally and internationally.

In three tweets posted at intervals by the former president, he said that he could not remain in the same party with President Goodluck Jonathan who uses his party and corruption to tear down the country.

He also said it is better for him to quit the PDP than remain in it with a drug baron. Details below:

Obasanjo’s purported tweet from @SegunObasanjo

“I’d rather sacrifice my political party for the interest of Nigeria than sacrifice my country for a political party led by a drug baron.

“I’d rather tear the PDP membership card than sit down and let Jonathan use PDP and corruption to tear my beloved country apart.

“I have national & international standard to maintain. For this reason I’d rather stand alone than be in the same political party with Kashamu.”

Obasanjo said that the party card he tore was one of the least things preoccupation to what is good for Nigeria, pointing out that there was nothing he could not sacrifice for the interest of the nation.

He boasted that despite the destruction of his party care, he would not be cowed by anyone, as he was still ready to comment on any matter that required his comment or view for the good of Nigeria.

He said, “If there is anything that requires my own comment, position or views. I will say it. It is only when you kill me that I will stop doing so."

Politics › Fayose Confesses: Admits Participation In Ekiti Rigging Audio by Baawaa(op): 5:27am On Feb 17, 2015
Musiliu Obaniko is still denying. But the denial is over for Ekiti State Governor Ayo Fayose as he has finally admitted that his voice was one of the voices Nigerians heard in the rigging audio clip.

An Army officer, Captain Sagir Koli, recorded the voices of Fayose, ex-Minister of State Musiliu Obanikoro, Police Affairs Minister Jelili Adesiyan, Osun State PDP governorship candidate Iyiola Omisore and Brig.-Gen. Aliyu Momoh strategising on how to use soldiers to manipulate the election.

But Fayose is trying to confuse the issue. He was heard clearly on tape telling the General that Chief of Army staff is working with him through the President ('he said President asked him to call him') and that Soldiers arrested Policemen who are working for him with a designated sticker...

Fayose  denied discussing a rigging plot, adding that “he was accusing Gen. Momoh of conniving with the All Progressives Congress (APC) to rig the election”.

He has therefore challenged his predecessor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, to go to court and prove that the military and the Peoples Democratic Party colluded to rig the June 21, 2015, governorship election.

Fayose also challenged Fayemi to produce the soldiers, who participated in the alleged electoral malfeasance in court and insisted that the soldiers must produce evidence to back up the allegation.

The governor was reacting to the ex-governor’s explanations on an ADABA 88.9 FM programme, “APC Change Hour,” in which Fayemi said some soldiers were ready to give evidence in court.

The audio clip, which has gone viral on the Internet, was aired on the programme. Fayemi said the second part would soon be released and the details will shock Nigerians.
