Politics / Most Nigerian Cities Are Dilapidated Beyond Repair by babasolution: 9:29am On Apr 02 |
I just saw a thread on ABA, how the government is trying to construct abandoned roads. What I saw is cringy, the reconstructed roads only have functional signifance aside that it made no difference to the development of the city, the city still looks as bad as it always was, this goes for every other city in Nigeria, including Lagos. Except Abuja. Despite efforts by some governors to reconstruct roads and bridges, it feels like pouring water into a basket. Most state capitals were totally unplanned, and allowed to be dilapidated severely. even the former nations capital Lagos was unplanned and is now beyond repair especially the mainland. This goes with my gross with the older generation who watched and oversaw the gradual disintegration and dilapidation of these cities. Nigerian cities are gone, they are too dilapidated to be repaired, all the major cities especially in the south and Middlebelt are gone except Abuja, they are in such dysfunctional state they are at best upgraded slums. All Nigerian cities are so full of shacks, dirts, stenchy open gutters, old buildings etc. It's so messy it can't be recovered, its like trying to beautify a dumbsite. Instead of wasting billions on useless roads and bridges, these monies should be used instead on the gradual development of new capital cities in Nigeria that will be planned from inception, otherwise Nigeria will remain a ugly mess forever. |

I am a neutral guy, many people on here think am anti- SW but no am neutral. I have no regard for the big 3 . Now,it has come to my notice that the igbos who are traders in many regions living peacefully and earning their livelihood from patronage of other regions and tribe have grown this blatant arrogance, and are fund of castigating other tribes forgetting that a lot of their prosperity rest on other tribes including foreign countries. What if other tribes go into big time trade like the igbos, afterall many of our ancestors where actually traders in the past. The monopolisation of trade by the igbos is making them arrogant This derision against other tribes online must stop, limit your banter to your banter mates the Yoruba 2 Likes 3 Shares |

nairalanda1: A good percentage of people do not attend public run schools especially recently, How many roads were built? The lekki toll they collected, what was it used for? No evidence it was judiciously used,as there was no expansion or maintainance on the road for years. the investment in those sectors by governments is even generally low compared to say what they invest in national assembly. Why can't for example the so called hajj subsidy of 90 billion not be poured into such public facilities. There's likely to be another 90billion for christain pilgrimage. Is that not simply poor management In the past they invested well in those sectors and there's been multiple opportunities to create alternatives which they didn't, |

nairalanda1: You putting the cart before the horse, Industrialisation and free market , Were over the years refineries couldn't work Ajaokuta steel couldn't be completed No power Poor roads and rail Look these things are not rocket science There's no commitment from the colonial GENERATION to make these things work. 90billion for hajj, there's simply no excuse for that. Nigerians like to make simple things complicated, I was watching a programming on security operations in USA, in a particular case, they did manual thorough labour intensive work in their security process to catch a particular criminal, over here people will start giving excuses of how we lack advanced technology to carry out such operations, when even in US they were using good old manual analog process. You don't always need advanced economic processes to get a country to work. You can do the good old management and priority allocation of resources econs 101 to do a lot of good works. Nigerias case is simply misplacement of priorities and failure by over religious inclination of the colonial GENERATION elites. The prioritise religion over everything |

nairalanda1: But you'll say there's no money for development, that's goes my point that the colonial GENERATION due to their over religious disposition have misplaced priorities choosing to develop religions over other more important sectors. Where did they get the money from,if there's no money? Even if they borrowed why will they borrow to fund religion? The colonial GENERATION are ruining Nigeria |
Culture / Re: I Need Help Differentiating Between The Hausa And The Fulani by babasolution: 8:22am On Mar 30 |
Ynix: What am saying is that, there's bound to be native Hausa tribe, probably even if their tribe is smaller than it is portrayed, there's got to be a native Hausa tribe.there cannot be a language without its native speakers, just like Latin was native to the Romans but was spoken at a time in virtually all of Europe. There are native Hausa's but they might not be as large as people claim. As for sarkin yaji ,according most historical accounts he learnt Islam from Algerian Berber traders, therefore he was most likely a native ,so the claim that he was a foreigner is highly unlikely. 1 Like |

Ynix: So which tribe is sarkin yaji from, who institutionalised islam in Kano in the 14th century? Was he a Berber?,how can there be a language and no tribe native to that language? The states you called are like any other large tribe in Nigeria such as the Yoruba or Igbo with different sections ,people must understand that a tribe doesn't have to be from one ancestor. 1 Like |

nairalanda1: Tax on what exactly, what amenities does the government provide that they will collect tax for? Subsidy in Nigeria is mainly on fuel or electricity which are energy( production subsidies) What else do they subsidize, Where are the refineries, why did they ruin it Where is electricity Everything cannot be privatised |
