An undisclosed number of persons were reportedly trapped after a building identified as a two-storey building located at 54 Cole Street, near Cemetery Bus Stop in the Oyingbo area of Lagos collapsed today in Lagos. This was disclosed in the situation report released by the Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Margaret Adeseye who disclosed that the Sari-Iganmu Fire Station team was immediately dispatched to the scene after receiving a distress call. |

Insecurity: President Tinubu Sacks Service Chiefs, Names Replacement. By Zainab ||Abuja Im a major shake-up in the leadership of the Armed Forces, President Bola Tinubu today announced the sacking of all the Service Chiefs and appointing new ones as part of efforts to strengthen the country’s national security architecture. This was disclosed in a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Public Communication, Sunday Dare. The statement revealed that the President approved the appointment of General Olufemi Oluyede who previously served as the Chief of Army Staff as the new Chief of Defence Staff, replacing General Christopher Musa who previously served as the Chief of Defence Staff. Also appointed are Major-General W. Shaibu as Chief of Army Staff, Air Vice Marshal S.K. Aneke as Chief of Air Staff, and Rear Admiral I. Abbas as Chief of Naval Staff. The Chief of Defence Intelligence, Major-General E.A.P. Undiendeye, retains his position. The statement quoted President Tinubu expressing his “profound appreciation” to the outgoing Chief of Defence Staff and other former Service Chiefs for their “patriotic service and dedicated leadership.” He therefore urged the newly appointed military heads to justify the confidence reposed in them by enhancing “the professionalism, vigilance, and comradeship that define the Armed Forces of Nigeria.” The statement noted that all the appointments are with immediate effect.

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, today during his monthly media parley said that the rate of crime in Abuja has drastically reduced, despite recent reports of armed robbery and other security incidents in the city. He criticised the perception that insecurity was worsening in the FCT, insisting that such claims were not backed by facts, however maintaining that his administration’s interventions and the efforts of security agencies had led to significant improvements

Leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu today failed to open his defence for the second time at the Federal High Court in Abuja in the alleged terrorism trial. Kanu, who opted to defend himself, told Justice James Omotosho upon resumed hearing that his disengaged lawyers were yet to hand over the case file to him, which was not objected to, by the prosecution counsel.

A former Attorney-General of the Federation and lead counsel to Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Kanu Agabi, today, applied to withdraw his representation in the ongoing terrorism trial before the Federal High Court in Abuja. When the matter was called today, Agabi informed the court that he would no longer be representing the IPOB leader, adding that the defendant had decided to take back the case from him.

Police clashed with protesters in Douala, the economic hub of Cameroon, after opposition candidate Tchiroma Bakary claimed victory in the October 12 presidential election. The independent body in charge of overseeing the poll, along with the constitutional court, has not yet announced any results, with an official outcome not expected until October 26 at the latest.

The legal battle over the control of Osun State local government funds took a new twist yesterday as the Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan extended the freezing order on 30 bank accounts linked to the disputed allocations. Presiding Judge, Justice Ladiran Akintola, gave the order while adjourning the matter to November 27, 2025, for ruling on applications challenging the court’s jurisdiction, as well as motions filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) seeking to be joined as interested parties.
