Nigeria and India have officially submitted proposals to host the 2030 Commonwealth Games. In the proposals separately submitted by both countries, Nigeria backs its capital Abuja to host the event, with India fronting Ahmedabad. The future of the Games had become the subject of concern after South Africa's Durban and Australia's Victoria pulled out as nominated hosts for the 2022 and 2026 editions respectively. With Durban's withdrawal, Birmingham stepped in to host the 2022 Games while Glasgow took up the 2026 event. This is the second time Abuja is bidding to host the Commonwealth Games after it lost its first attempt to Glasgow in 2014

There was a significant display of diplomatic unity in Beijing on Wednesday, as China's Xi Jinping, Russia's Vladimir Putin, and North Korea's Kim Jong Un met in public for the first time. Alongside a vast military parade marking 80 years since the country's victory over Japan in World War Two, the meeting formed part of a day of statements for Chinese President Xi Jinping. Crowds of over 50,000 in Tiananmen Square witnessed laser weapons, nuclear ballistic missiles, and even robotic wolves, a display that will now be heavily scrutinised by Western defence officials, as reported by security correspondents. Xi inspected the waiting ranks of thousands of troops from the roof of his state vehicle, before warning that the world must "never return to the law of the jungle" in a speech. After the parade, diplomacy continued with handshakes and hugs marking the end of Putin and Kim's two-and-a-half hour meeting.

The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, has said that the Tinubu administration has not weaponised anti-corruption agencies against the political opposition. Idris stated this while speaking at the opening of the ICPC Roundtable Engagement on Agenda Setting for Strategic Integration of State Commissioners of Information in the Fight Against Corruption, held in Abuja on Wednesday. Idris said the President is implementing far-reaching judicial reforms aimed at curbing unnecessary delays in corruption trials, ensuring that justice is neither denied nor endlessly deferred. However, the Minister buttressed the President’s position that there will be no haven for corruption in Nigeria, stressing that transparency and accountability constitute strong pillars of democracy and are, unarguably, at the core of President Tinubu’s grundnorm of administration.

Spanish club Sevilla has confirmed the mutual termination of Super Eagles striker Kelechi Iheanacho’s contract, ending his time at the Estadio Ramón earlier than expected Iheanacho still had two years remaining on his deal, which was due to run until June 2026, but fell out of favour under manager Matías Almeyda, who opted for other attacking options this season. The Nigerian international who joined Sevilla in 2024 after leaving Leicester City made 11 appearances and scored three goals before being loaned to Middlesbrough in January, where he played 15 matches in the Championship, contributing one goal and two assists. Despite returning for preseason in Spain, Iheanacho was excluded from Sevilla’s opening three La Liga matchday squads, prompting both parties to agree on an early separation.
