Osinbajo says Pres. Buhari did not know about plan to arraign Walter Onnoghen, chief justice of Nigeria (CJN), until Saturday.

Osinbajo said this while speaking at the third Online Publishers Association of Nigeria (OPAN) conference in Abuja.

The CJN is accused of false assets declaration. A petition was written against him by Dennis Aghanya, a former aide of Buhari.

He was to be arraigned on Monday at the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT) but he was absent when the sitting began. A high court has stopped the proceedings from going on.

“I feel very sad that is going on at all,” the vice-president said.

In Facebook post, however, Fani-Kayode apologised for his earlier comment but said some people actually searched the CJN’s home.

The former minister also insinuated that Onnoghen’s bank accounts had been frozen by agents of the Federal Government.

He said, “Yesterday I was informed by usually reliable sources that EFCC were positioned outside CJN’s home. I have since discovered that the men were not from EFCC and I removed the posting. The error is regretted.

“Meanwhile can the Federal Government tell us which agency sent those men and why they beat a retreat? Again is it true that a television journalist was arrested at the scene and his camera and footage confiscated? If so, why?

“Finally is it true that the Attorney General has ordered the NFIU to freeze Onnoghen’s bank accounts. Questions, questions, questions! The tyranny continues unabated.”

Gov El-Rufai has said that Senator Shehu Sani is an opportunist who is not working in the best interest of the Kaduna people.

He said what Shehu Sani is doing is to take “one’s advantage position to frustrate the development of a State” thus “putting politics above common sense”.

While claiming that the expectations and ambitions of the Kaduna state government have been realized to some extent, El-Rufai said the people were quite “disappointed by the attitude of the Senators representing” the state.

He claimed Shehu Sani and two other lawmakers representing Kaduna had frustrated the efforts of the state government to obtain a $350million loan which would have helped in the area of infrastructure.

Sani said “Kaduna state wasn’t qualified for that loan because it was the second most indebted state in the country.

The lawmaker representing Kaduna Central in the Senate went on to say that “a non-oil producing state with very low internally generated revenue” needed to be saved from the “Chains and shackles of debt” which “He (the governor)” was going to get them involved in.

Disagreeing with Senator Sani, Governor El-Rufa told Ladi Akeredolu-Ale that “Anyone WHO represents a people and does not want the benefits of those people is clearly an enemy of the people”.

The governor went to say that, Shehu Sani uses words without knowing their meaning, noting that “there is no way a state government can borrow without clearance from the debt management office of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”

He concluded that all Shehu Sani has said is just to “Justify taking actions against the interest of 10 million people”.

The governor noted that he is working with the president and he is certain that soon enough the loan issue with the World Bank will be resolved, noting that he is confident with the resolution of some of the issues around financing, “we would be able to get to where we want to take Kaduna State in the shortest possible time”.

Kingsley Moghalu, presidential candidate of the Young Progressives Party (YPP), says he has spent over N200 million of his “personal money” on the bid to emerge Nigeria’s president.

He said his party will fund its campaign through voluntary contributions of its members and the public, adding that he does not have a political godfather.

“I joined politics to run for the presidency using my own money, I have spent over N200 million of my personal money so far, I do not have any political godfather,” Moghalu said.

Moghalu made the remark at a town hall meeting organised by the Nigeria Television Authority (NTA) and Daria Media with support from the MacArthur Foundation.

The town hall meeting, tagged ‘The Candidates’, is a two-hour televised series featuring the presidential and vice-presidential candidates of four leading political parties.

Moghalu, who is venturing into politics for the first time, is a former deputy governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

He said if elected as the nation’s next president, he would drive the economy by encouraging innovation and growth of small businesses.

He said his party would ensure that the current N500 billion social intervention fund was effectively used to improve the lot of Nigerians.

The candidate said his administration would put the fund into a productive capital venture that would create and allow people to run their businesses within six months of assuming office.

Moghalu said he would guarantee wealth and job creation in the country.

“My being educated has showed me what Nigeria should be in terms of economy, infrastructure, and the well being of the people, and I will use my education to improve the lots of the people,” he said.

Moghalu said the time to transform the country had come, adding that Nigeria needs a vibrant leadership to address the challenges of the 24th century.

President Muhammadu Buhari and Vice-President Yemi Osinbajo are expected to feature on the programme on January 16 while Omoyele Sowore and his running mate, Rabiu Rufai, would feature on January 23.

The organisers say Atiku Abubakar and his running mate, Peter Obi, would be feature on the programme on January 30.

The Minister of Information and Culture, Alhaji Lai Mohammed says the purported leaked audio of Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, criticising President Muhammadu Buhari, will not break the ranks of the ruling, APC.

The Minister who stated this at a media briefing on Tuesday in Abuja said the leaked audio was part of the “mudslinging’’ politics of the opposition”.

“Again, the opposition is determined to ensure that the ongoing campaign for the 2019 elections is not based on issues but on mudslinging.

“What is the point in shopping around for audio clips or publications that are then maliciously edited out of context?

“Why do they think this will break our ranks in the ruling party?

“What advantage do they think they can get from this infantile act?

“Whoever wants to circulate any audio or video clip should do so in its entirety so that the people can understand the context.

“Otherwise, let them continue wasting their time circulating an audio that is clearly designed to blackmail,’’ he said.

The minister also said that the growing accusations that 9-Mobile and Keystone Bank were bought by President Muhammadu Buhari’s family members were part of the PDP’s Dubai agenda.

He said the agenda reached in Dubai by the opposition was to “throw enough mud at the President and hope they can succeed in tainting his integrity’’.

“The sooner the PDP realises this and retrace its steps, the better. President Buhari is globally acknowledged for his legendary integrity, and no one can tarnish it.

“When its allegations were proved to be wrong, those behind the shameless allegation did not even have the decency to admit their lies and apologise to the nation.

“This is bad politicking and it will not win more votes for the sinking PDP.

“It is sad that instead of focusing on issues, all they spew are

innuendos, lies and concocted stories,’’ he said.

He said that PDP Presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar’s campaign has lost steam, and all it is doing is to make wild allegations not backed by facts.

The minister also said that President Buhari should be commended for his decision to concentrate on his job rather than focusing on re-electioneering campaign.

“The President, in his wisdom, said he would not want his work to be affected by electioneering campaign, and decided to hand over the responsibility of steering the campaign to Asiwaju.

“That is within the President’s prerogative, and a mark of the confidence he reposed in Asiwaju.

“How is this now a problem to the PDP? The President deserves accolades for putting the nation first, even with the elections approaching,’’ he said.

The minister said that the mischievous insinuation from the opposition that the President handed over the campaign to Tinubu because he could withstand the rigors of electioneering campaign is absurd.

“The President’s punishing daily schedule over the past months is more rigorous than any electioneering campaign.

“Of course, it has never happened in the recent history of Nigeria that a President facing re-election will rather concentrate on his job rather than his campaign.

“PDP, for one, cannot fathom this because of their brand of do-or-die politics.

“Again, the President deserves commendation, not condemnation, for that decision,’’ he said.

Senator Dino Melaye wanted by the Police for criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide, committed on 19th July, 2018, when Senator Dino Melaye and his armed thugs attacked Police personnel, shot and wounded SGT Danjuma Saliu on stop and search duty along Aiyetoro Gbede, Mopa Road in Kogi State has surrendered to the Police Investigation Team on wait at his residence, today, 4th January, 2019 at about 1500hrs.

2. The Police Officer, Sgt. Danjuma Saliu, is yet to recover from the gunshot injury he sustained during the attack and still under intensive medical care in the hospital.

3. The Police Investigation Team had since 28th December, 2018 at about 1000hrs arrived the residence of Senator Dino Melaye with a duly obtained Warrant of Arrest to effect his arrest to answer to a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Attempted Culpable Homicide against him under investigation in the Kogi State Police Command. Senator Dino Melaye on sighting the Police Team locked up himself in the building to evade arrest.

The Warrant of Arrest was obtained after Senator Dino Melaye refused to honour Police invitation dated 23rd July, 2018, signed by the Commissioner of Police, Kogi State Police Command addressed to the Clerk, National Assembly, Abuja, inviting Senator Dino Melaye to report on 26th July, 2018 at 1100Hrs at the Kogi State Police
Command, CIID, Lokoja to answer to a case of Criminal Conspiracy and Attempted Culpable Homicide against him under investigation in the Kogi State Police Command.

5. The Police Investigation Team cordoned off the building and continued to be in wait for eight ( days for Senator
Dino Melaye to obey the law and surrender himself for arrest.

6. While the Police Investigation Team was waiting, Senator Dino Melaye granted an interview monitored on Television Stations that he was not in Abuja. This claim eventually was discovered to be completely false as Senator Dino Melaye surrendered to the waiting Police Investigation Team today at his residence in Abuja at about 1500hrs.

7. Senator Dino Melaye is currently in Police custody for investigation, and subsequently, taken to Police hospital, Abuja for medical attention and he is in stable condition. Investigation into the case of criminal conspiracy and attempted culpable homicide against him is on-going.

Senator Dino Melaye has been rushed to a police clinic in Garki Area 1 of Abuja, after he was arrested and taken to SARS Headquarters.

A police officer who was part of the team that arrested the lawmaker in his Abuja residence on Friday confirmed the case’s latest development.

The officer said Senator Melaye is currently on bed rest as the police determine their next line of action.

He said the police’s expectation is that as soon as the lawmaker recovers, he will return to detention.

The Presidency has said that President Muhammadu Buhari and a Commissioner with the Independent National Electoral Commission, Mrs Amina Zakari are not blood relations as alleged by the Peoples Democratic Party.

It noted that the case of accusing her of “partiality and casting doubts about her integrity as an electoral commissioner” ahead of the February polls did not arise as she was not a relative of the President.

In a statement by the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mr Garba Shehu, on Friday, the Presidency also recalled that it was the same PDP government under former President Goodluck Jonathan that appointed Zakari to serve on the commission.

The Presidency stated further, “In their desperation, they forget that it was the PDP government that appointed her in the first place and they keep lying, as they have been caught doing on so many issues, by imputing a blood relationship between her and President Muhammadu Buhari.

“President Buhari and Commissioner Amina Zakari don’t share a family relationship. An inter-marriage occurred in their extended families; so the imputation of ——picked Mrs Zakari, judging her by her own merit and made her an electoral commissioner.

“She served so well with distinction as can be verified from the records that President Buhari approved the recommendation that she be reappointed, as he did other PDP nominees for second-term of four years.

“PDP, therefore, has no moral right to keep harassing this hardworking mother unless they have a hidden agenda.

“By this statement, the PDP is guilty of scoring an own goal and two, of harassing an innocent citizen on the basis of a lie, pure and simple.”

The siege on Senator Dino Melaye’s residence in Abuja by the police has finally come to an end after eight days.

The lawmaker, who represents Kogi West constituency, opened the door to the residence himself on Friday afternoon in the presence of police operatives and some senators of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

While coming out of the house, Senator Melaye slumped to the floor and was later assisted onto his feet.

He was thereafter taken to the office of the Federal Special Anti-Robbery Squad (FSARS) in Guzape, the nation’s capital.
