Splinter Cell: Deathwatch


A decent watch.
Honestly I was expecting the usual Hollywood troupe whereby the protagonist becomes overshadowed in his own series by a younger female character but I am glad they didn't go that route.

Netflix just released it.
Didn't have much hope for it due to the animation in the trailer...

But with the positive reviews here, I'll check it out

This is my favorite movie of all time. I love it so much that I know almost the whole script my heart. For the anime, I will be there.

Watched so much that if to say na CD, e for don they skip like mad.

I watched the movie years ago and loved it. I'll rewatch...

But I don't know how faithful this anime adaptation will be to the manga. It looks different

Saw someone's top anime list on reddit and it's the closest to my list I've ever seen...

Almost all the shows there are in my top 10 albeit in a different order.

The only 2 shows I haven't seen on that list are Clannad and Tomorrow's Joe.

I know Tomorrow's Joe (Ashita no Joe) is a classic but the art being so old is why I haven't seen it yet. Clannad as well being a high school show/romance is why I haven't seen it yet.

Premise:
The story is set in the year 3394, a thousand years after mankind flees from Earth after it was destroyed by a race of aliens and humans live in a giant spaceship called Sidonia.
Sidonia has developed its own human culture where human cloning, asexual reproduction, and human genetic engineering, such as granting humans photosynthesis, are commonplace.
It follows a character who joins in the fight for the survival of the human race in Sidonia by fighting the aliens.


The CGI in the show takes a while to get used to. It's the reason I didn't watch this show until now. But I am glad I started it now...

It's a unique artstyle

I generally prefer shows like these over the same copy-paste anime artstyle we see in every Isekai anime

Damn, just found out I watched 62 films last year.... I always thought it was 67 — I guess it was for the previous year.

I'm now at 59 films so far and I still have three solid months to go. Despite heavily slacking last month.
I'd easily smash my tally in previous years.

I most likely won't hit my lofty target of 100 films a year. But at least I might get very close to it. Hopefully I do at least 25 films more— to round out at 85+ within the year.
Hopefully, I chalk off more off my niche watchlists. 🤞🏽

The most simplified formula is budget x 2.5

Superman's budget is 225m

225m x 2.5 = 562m

That's the break even point

The 2.5 multiplier is used when we don't know the advertising cost.
Cinemas take 50% of movie earnings and a base 0.5 or 50% of a movie's production budget is used as it's advertising costs...that's where the 2.5x multiplier comes in...

Now that the advertising cost and other costs have been revealed, then you can't just apply a base 2.5x multiplier.

You just don't want to admit the sad reality that Superman 2025 was a box office bomb.

Don't worry, it will still make money from streaming to cover it's loses

From the article, it didn't break even. It lost about 50m.

I really enjoyed this show. But ngl, like 20% of the runtime of this series was spent on shots of the submarine underwater

It might be a stretch to say the praise got this got here, was entirely undue, but I genuinely struggled to see why.

I was sold on the first two episodes, but from episode 3 to 7 it felt like a completely different show. While the action sequences held up and I can see why fans of military thrillers might appreciate that, the plot was unforgivably weak. There were too many holes, too many illogical decisions by the lead, and a needless attempt to overcomplicate things. In trying to be convoluted for the sake of it, the story actually lost me.

By the time it reached its insipid, anticlimactic ending, I was left wondering: what was the point of all this? What was the show even trying to achieve? Was it supposed to build toward Ben Edwards’ turn to the “dark side”? If so, there was no emotional nuance to suggest that, making his arc feel hollow and unearned.

That said, if you’re invested purely in the surface level action, you might find some en. But for a supposed Navy SEAL show, there was far more espionage drama than actual action.

5/10.

It was not a Navy seal show. It was focused on how Ben Edwards joined Ground Reach or what that dark division of the CIA is.

And from what I've heard, this first season of Dark Wolf isn't the complete story. More of his story will be shown in a second season where you'll truly see his journey into the dark side.

That said...I think everyone agrees that Terminal List was way better...

The Fantastic Four: First Steps (2025)....6.5/10


Honestly the movie was better than I expected. I expected a waste of my time but I was entertained.

The plotline is absolutely hilarious and sîlly but I respect it for at least doing something different.

Superhero movies with shared universes always seem funny in a Solo movie especially when movies like these somehow pretend other superheros do not exist.

Sue's speech to convince the world after they turned on the Fantastic Four and their baby was hilariously dvmb. I didn't take the movie seriously but that scene was toddler-level writing.

If you need something to spend 2 hours of your time on, it's a good watch. Not a good movie but at least somewhat entertaining

Mantis (2025)


A sequel to Kill Boksoon.
It was always going to be hard to match Kill Boksoon and sure enough this was not anywhere as good as that movie.

The 1st half of this movie was extremely slow and a hard watch. I almost quit the entire movie but it got better in the 2nd half.

I watched "Requiem for a dream" recently. It was so good that I had to go to Reddit to check other people's opinion on it. It made me watch "Black swan" next. Darren Aronofsky knows how to make disturbing movies just like Ari Aster.

This season 3 is base on “Alice in Borderland RETRY” a sequel to the main manga but Netflix didn’t follow it up and changed somethings like:

Usagi didn’t return to the borderland, she was in labor when Arisu returned to the borderland by accident.

I read some pages but didn’t finish it, anyway it’s was a good season

Honestly you can see the writing problems immediately they ran out of source material. I think Netflix forced the third season.

It was decent and somewhat entertaining but it just felt unnecessary. And season 2 felt like a much better ending for the series.

You can clearly see that this 3rd season was made as a cashgrab by Netflix especially since season 2 ended around where the manga ended...

There were so many writing problems in season 3 including Usagi's motivations for returning to the Borderlands...it made no sense...

The main antagonist also didn't have a good motivation for his actions which killed immersion...

What I looked forward to the most was encounter with the Joker and while it wasn't bad, it wasn't as good or mystical/intriguing as the manga...

From what I've heard about the manga, it seems this season is based off a sequel/spin-off manga that might not even have been completed because of mixed reviews and they still changed a lot.

But what made me cringe was the hint at an American version. I am sure Netflix forced the producers to add those final scenes.

Why exactly do Netflix see the need to make an American version of every popular Asian show. First Squid Game and now, Alice in Borderland?
