Can't wait for this masterpiece to be back.
Calling Blue Eye Samurai a masterpiece is a stretch...
A big stretch...

Isn't this the same show where a lit candle was on the floor, and fell during a battle. Which caused a fire that burnt down an entire palace?

Nevertheless, it's a really good show

SUPERMAN 2025

This is an honest and adequate depiction of how Superman truly is. It's got heart and embodies what Superman truly stands for. He might be naive, a do-gooder and overly caring even to the point of saving pets and animals — yes that's his character and the focal point of his existence. Things we'd call inconsequential— but that's his DNA and will never be erased.

Where the movie shines through for me is in James Gunn's quest to make Superman human-like as opposed to being a god as he was portrayed in the previous version. It's about making Superman accessible to the general audience again and making him vulnerable despite his nigh omnipotent qualities. I perfectly understood what Gunn was gunning for and it worked well for me.

It's CGI was pretty cool. Great action sequences. A visual masterpiece.

Things I wasn't a fan of were in some scenes where Metropolis's sun was a little exaggerated with overly bright background washing out the faces of some characters.

Also, I found it weaker in parts where Lex controls Ultraman and could predict Superman's moves ahead. It's a fault in James's Gunn's portrayal. Lex, might be amongst the world's smartest man with him even being annoyed he's classed amongst real life greats like Einstein and Galileo (he implied he's way smarter), but even him can't be as fast as to always perfectly see Superman's moves in a fight. Much less when he's fighting a direct clone of himself.
A superspeed, super strength battle would be highly incomprehensible even for a human. But we can forgive that a bit since Lex is no ordinary human. Though, it lessens the practicality of that scenario. But we don't watch CBMs for the real life practicality of it. Do we?

It was very fast paced with so many characters but it was essentially a Superman story either way.
it would have been a bit problematic while watching it in a theatre with no option of a rewind but I enjoyed it nonetheless.

Nicholas Hoult as Lex Luthor shines through this film with his poignant acting chops and delivers a truly memorable performance and arguably the greatest iteration of the character in live action. Perfectly embodies Lex's pure disdain for Superman and drive to crush the Man of Steel. I didn't doubt he could deliver after watching some of his films. A true villain. True to the game. No redeemable features. Just plain old Lex narcissism. And that's why I love his portrayal.

David Corenswet perfectly encapsulates Superman and his chemistry with Rachel Brosnahan as Lois Lane is a joy to watch. Easily the best Lois and Clark version I've ever watched and way better than the joyless broodiness and passionless tone one had to endure watching Henry Cavill's and Amy Adams on screen.

Edi Gathegi as Mr Terrific ? Now that's a proper introduction. What a terrific debut and I can't wait to get more action from him going forward. What a way to introduce one of DC's smartest humans.

The movie did a good job of setting up The Terrifics as a Superhero team and teasing what's to come from SUPERGIRL. It did well in establishing the DCU and bringing back excitement to the DC brand in general. It greatly balances out the need for grittiness, comedy and themes to fit the story and deliver a story central to Superman's values.

James Gunn taking a shot at SnyderBros with the Monkey-buts in that scene was quite funny.

Overall, It's about enjoying a movie and it's in-universe elements.
Not everything needs a The Batman/Dark Knight gritty, gloomy treatment.

If you perceived this film differently, well, the majority of the population says otherwise. And yeah, we all can't like the same things.
So in essence, this movie is for the Comic Book fans and especially Superman fans. 'Cause I'm a Punk Rocker, Yes I am!

This gets an 8/10 rating from me.
You are 100% entitled to your opinion and I respect it. However since you brought up some areas, I want to comment on them...

First of all, what version of Superman is "canon" to the comics?
When you claim this Superman is for comic book fans, it's hard to get what you mean because as far as I am aware, Synder's version is also for comic fans since there are so many variations of the character...

Also, I recall saying from my preview of the trailers that it seemed to be a movie that "humanized" Superman...and made him more vulnerable...
I thought that was a good idea and I still think it could have been...

But after watching the movie, I think it was a good idea that was taken way too far that it became bad.

I cringed hard at the whole Superman's speech to Lex that he was just as human as the rest of us... because he wasn't. The entire speech seemed like it was written by someone on Wattpad...that was how bad it was... especially coming from Superman...

I think somewhere in the middle of Synder and James Gunn's versions would have worked better...instead Gunn made a character that was almost opposite of what Synder did...

Just like how Synder took his version of Superman too far, James Gunn did the same in the opposite direction...

To make matters worse, Superman in this movie became a street level superhero getting beaten by every tom, dick and Harry...
Maybe that is also comic accurate?

Also, I really have nothing to go on with Lois Lane since the movie starts with her character arc already completed...
I don't know how her relationship and chemistry with Superman was great to you. There was really nothing to go by for me. Their entire relationship arc had been completed off-screen before the movie began, but we are supposed to somehow care about it?

While we all knew this movie was not going to be an origin story, the effects of the lack of an origin story affected immersion in the movie. It made it hard to care for or fully understand the motives of characters whose arc were completed before the movie began.

It was hard to care about his relationship with Lois Lane since it was not built, same as the motives of Lex Luthor. His envy was built upon the premise that Superman "took his shine".

But we never saw Superman do that, we don't see Superman's rise as a symbol, we are simply told he did. That makes it hard to care about Lex Luthor and "understand" the character or where he is coming from...even if we ultimately disagree with him...

In other words, Lex Luthor became nothing more than a shallow figurehead character who simply exists that way because there has to be a Lex Luthor...
This is the character that is our main antagonist.

To make matters worse, Gunn's idea of a smart Lex is him calling out random alphabets and digits to his goons while predicting Superman's moves...
It felt like a 9 years old kid's idea of a smart character...

At the end of the day, my investment would have been much better if the movie didn't start with completed arcs...
It made it hard to get invested in several characters and even pivotal parts of the story that were mostly dependent on the "completed arcs"

Knowing beforehand that the movie was not an origin story doesn't make it better. Especially because the entire "verse" before it was rebooted and this is the new canon.

This latest superman movie was rated 9/10 in Rotten Tomatoes, and other sites I don't remember at the moment.

The fact that a movie or series was rated 9/10 on rotten tomatoes doesn't mean it's going to be a good movie.
Sometimes, I wonder what criteria the folks on those film rating sites use to rate films.

Some people see those 9/10 on rotten tomatoes, and co, and start bloating all over the place, hyping the films beyond what they truly are.
Rotten Tomatoes scores are based on recommendations. Basically each critic decides whether the movie is fresh (would recommend) or rotten (would not recommend).

The aggregate scores/percentage is what determines it's totamoe score.

Even I who gave it a 5/10 would still recommend it. It doesn't mean I think the movie is great

Your entire analogy of Eren consists of a small part of a longer conversation with Armin. Further parts of the same conversation shows a more concise part of Eren's character...which I stated...

Even other conversations like the ones with Reiner, Zeke and Ramzi reinforce that...

The final season of attack on titan is a masterpiece. They won because that's what Eren wanted. He wanted them to be heroes, he directed all the hatred to himself, and let them kill him, to prove a point.

He could've easily erased 100% of the outside world, and also killed his friends, if he wanted. Suicidal mf, lol.
Here's my understanding of Eren and why I don't entirely agree with your post-

Eren's primary motivation for the Rumbling is his idea of freedom. Even from childhood he was obsessed with it and he was ready to destroy anything that tried to restrict him...
That's why he killed the kidnappers that kidnapped Child Mikasa in season 1 and called them "less than animals"

When Armin showed him his grandfather's book, he saw the beauty of the outside world ..the ocean, the mountains etc and associated that plain blank slate as his idea of what freedom entails...

He associated the walls and the Titans as things restricting him from acheiving freedom.

The problem with these ideals is that such freedom cannot exist in either our world or the AOT world. And that flaw became apparent when they reached the basement in season 3 and discovered that outside the walls were full of enemies...
Eren ascribed these enemies outside the walls as those restricting his freedom...

He was in his words "disappointed" and chose to destroy them...

This is his fundamental motivation for the Rumbling...
Not to make his friends heroes or to end the Titan curse, but to destroy those who restricted his idea of freedom...

Eren loved his friends no doubt, he wanted to protect Paradis as well as end the Titan curse...
But that selfish motivation is what drove him forward...

That is why at the finale, even after Eren told Armin the "benefits" of his actions and being stopped by his friends, Armin called him out. There was no justification for his actions...there was no good lesson for humanity to learn from it as well except to kill or be killed...

Eren himself realizes this...he knows he is acting more out of selfish interest, that's why he breaks down and calls himself "a slave to freedom". That's why he calls himself "an idîot" who had too much power and makes a selfish choice that dooms 80% of humanity...

In other words, Eren's friends being heroes were a result of his actions and their own choices to stop him, not his original intention. Recall when they went to the paths and he told them "they had freedom to choose whether to stop him or not. That in order to achieve freedom, he would take freedom from the world, but take nothing from his friends"

Further proof of this...in the manga, Eren said that even if he didn't know he would be stopped, he would have fully completed the Rumbling.

In other words, he fully intended to complete the Rumbling if he wasn't stopped.

The choice of his friends led to the outcome at the ending:
1. His friends became heroes and lived long lives free of war
2. The Titan curse ended due to Mikasa's choice to accept her love while doing the right thing
3. Paradis had a chance with 80% of the outside world gone.

But his actions were never framed as being right as it did not stop the Yeagerists from taking over Paradis. Even after his friends died and the world rebuilt, wars continued as it's part of human nature...

I don't want to write more, but Eren's conversation with Reiner in Marley (declaration of War), Eren's admission to Zeke in the paths (Memories of the future) and Eren's confession to Ramzi (the kid during the Rumbling) go further to reinforce his selfish motivations

It feels like the standards for Superhero Comic Book Movies are so low right now that any movie that is not outright terrible slop is called "good"

This has been the case with Thunderbolts and Superman so far...

By no decent standards can these movies be called good. It seems the audience already have their expectations set at a minimum that they will gladly take anything that isn't outright terrible...

Superman (2025).... 5/10

Worth watching if you have nothing better to do...

This is more of a rant than a review...

The movie was all over the place....
It didn't feel like a Superman movie at all...

The whole speech Superman made to Lex Luthor about how he was just as human as everyone else (which was supposed to be the highlight of the movie)

That speech has to be one of the worst speeches I've ever heard in a comic book movie. It was cringe af..
It was probably the second worst scene in the movie for me...

The whole drama about whether the restored tapes were legit or edited and the public's reaction to it felt like something written by a 9-years old kid...
It was so comical and laughable that I wondered if I was supposed to take that part seriously...

The fact that a major part of Superman's conflict was that poorly written shows how low the standards are for CBMs today...

Yeah...in a world where superbeings exist, where you can literally open a rift and blackhole...where nanotech exists...where a single strand of hair can clone an entire being with similar powers...
A random slander video was released and it's immediately believed by everyone without a second thought...

Yes it turns out the video was actually legit...but the reaction to it was nothing short of comical...

Don't get me started on Lex Luthor's character when the entire movie seemed written to ridicule him...
The writer's idea of Lex Luthor being smart was to call out random C3, F6 etc lmao...

Superman in the movie would legit lose to Spiderman...that's how weak and utterly useless he was...

The movie just felt like another average superhero slop...
The actors are likeable but the writing is not...
I like the Justice Gang and Supergirl...

I expected so much from this movie but I was left very disappointed...

Superman (2025)

I fear there might never be a truly great CBM blockbuster for a very, very long time…

I’m greatly at odds with this film because, with all the weight of expectations riding on it, there were so few things I liked and so many I disliked and it all stems from James Gunn being the maker of this movie.

The little things I liked:
For all the talk about the unusual CC and grading in the trailers and teasers, the final cut was a visual marvel. The whites of the snow were absolutely whiting, the green Kryptonite was bangingly greening, and Supes’ iconic red trunks were brilliantly red. It reminded me of GOTG Vol II's colour palette 🎨, no surprise since the same cinematographer worked on both.

David Corenswet as Superman was an all-timer casting choice. He looked born to play the role, and in the hands of a visionary filmmaker, his talents would have been put to much better use. Sadly, that’s where the positives end.

Now to the bad:
The plot was a clunky mess. From the opening scene, it felt half-done like we were supposed to have watched a previous film to understand what was going on. Crucial details had already happened off-screen, killing any chance of suspense or buildup that a good CBM needs. From there, it all went pear-shaped.

The most important part of Superman’s lore is his identity crisis wrestling with the weight of being the most powerful alien who wants to save everyone, while still being a Kansas farm boy working at the Daily Planet. We see none of that. For what’s supposed to be an origin story and the new DCU’s kickoff, his personal struggle is completely absent. Even his relationship with Lois Lane, another key arc, had already happened off-screen..zero buildup.

Worse, the story shifts focus away from Superman in a Superman movie to the “Justice Gang” (a goofy name, but hey, it’s James Gunn). Ironically, I was impressed with Mr. Terrific, he showed up and actually got things done, while Superman was constantly getting his butt kicked by every random goon Lex Luthor threw at him. It made the whole thing feel like a Justice Gang movie that happened to have Superman mumbling in the background. Superman is supposed to be larger than life, but Gunn stripped away the soul and essence that makes the character iconic. If he weren’t in the film, you’d barely notice, despite the title card saying Superman.

All of these problems come down to James Gunn. His strength has always been ragtag bands of misfit characters and that’s fine. But translating that style to a Tier-A comic icon doesn’t work. This movie feels less like the launch of a meaningful universe and more like Gunn’s nerdy teenage fantasy of “finally making a Superman movie.” It isn’t the beginning of something grand it looks like another one-off, forgettable CBM since 2019 that just happens to feature Superman. And this was supposed to be the biggest cinematic event of the year.

I’m close to my yearly rewatch of Infinity War (2018) and Endgame (2019), and I fear those two films have firmly closed the door on this genre. Even in Endgame, the cracks had started to show. CBMs are never reaching those heights again, not for a very long time. All we can hope for are the occasional huffs and puffs, praying one sticks and makes it worth your while which I thought this would be. Such a shame.

Ultimately, this is a close to nothing movie. It achieves nothing, builds towards nothing, and is an unmemorable, jarring mess.

5/10
Honestly I felt like writing a review when I completed the movie around 2am on Sunday...
But the movie didn't feel worth it to me...

I was greatly disappointed...surely this movie isn't the best thing CBM can offer this year?

Man of Steel is far better than Superman 2025.

With all the hype on that movie...I was expecting much more...

All I got was a weak Superman with so many political issues that I wasn't given a reason to actually care about.

And a Lex Luthor driven so much by envy that I struggled to actually take him as a serious Antagonist.

I feel like there is a lot they could have done with Lex...but his motivations were quite underwhelming...maybe that is what James Gunn was going for...idk

But the movie was very average.

And made for little kids...

It's really starting to piss me off when superhero movies can barely show any blood despite the scale of the battles and no one actually dies...

Somehow it doesn't matter what happens, Superman can save the day with 0 casualties.

Truly a movie made for kids

Too much inexperience.

Christensen or Inigo Martinez must start every game....

Hector Fort should be our 3rd choice RB or go on loan/be sold

Gerard Martin should sub in some games as LCB. He can make use of his pace there especially since Martinez and Christensen are old.
