Romance / Residents Decry Increasing Rate Of Prostitution In Asaba by balatukur: 3:30am On Sep 12, 2016
Residents of Asaba, the Delta capital, have decried
the increase in commercial sex activities in the city,
in spite of the warning by health officials on the
consequences of the vice.
The residents expressed their concerns about the
high rate of the menace in separate interviews with
the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Asaba on
Sunday.
They advised the women involved in the act to have
a change of heart considering the health, religious
and other consequences of prostitution and called
for appropriate measures to curb the trend.
One of the residents, Mr Nnamdi Nkenor, told NAN
that commercial sex workers often lurked around
Texas Plaza and Stephen Keshi Stadium, both
located along the popular Nnebisi Road at night,
looking for patronage. Nkenor reminded the women, who he said were in
their teens, and some not above 35 years, that they
were prone to contracting and spreading HIV and
AIDs and other sexually-transmitted diseases.
He said also that such women could easily fall
victims of ritual killing that had become rampant in
the society.
“Times are hard but these girls have forgotten the
consequences of what they are indulging in. Apart
from the health implications, some of them could
be used for rituals.’’
He called on the appropriate authorities to check
the menace as was done in 2014, advising that
such measures should be sustained.
On his part, Mr Emmanuel Okpara, said that the sex
workers were also found around Ibusa Road
junction, Coker Junction, Jesus Saves Road and
other strategic areas in the city.
“These women of easy virtues have thrown caution
to the wind in spite of the sensitisation on the
dreaded HIV and AIDS.
“Some of them can get missing and their
colleagues will just think that they have simply
relocated to other places.
“Prostitution is wrong; it is against Christianity and
parents should bring up their children to be
responsible members of the society,” Okpara said.
He also called on government to provide jobs for
the youths, saying that the high rate of the vice and
others was largely due to unemployment. (NAN) http://www.herald.ng/residents-decry-increasing-rate-prostitution-asaba/
Politics / Budget Padding: Why Dogara, Others Are After Me – Jibrin by balatukur: 11:29pm On Aug 25, 2016
Former Chairman, Appropriation Committee, House
of Representatives, Abdulmumin Jibrin disclosed
Thursday why the House’s Speaker, Yakubu Dogara
and other principal officers of the lower legislative
chamber were bent on expelling him.
Jibrin said he attracted the wrath of the House’s
leadership when, as Chairman of the Appropriation
Committee he rejected alleged proposals by Dogara
and others to corner about N90billion to themselves
from the 2016 budget.
He made this claim in a fresh document he filed
before the Federal High Court, Abuja in furtherance
of his suit marked: FHC/ABJ/CS:595/2016, seeking
to among others, restrain the House’s leadership
from suspending him from the House.
Defendants in the suit are the House of
Representatives, the Clerk of the House of
Representatives, Dogara, Yusuf Lasun (Deputy
Speaker), Alhassan Ado Doguwa, Leo Ogor, Herman
Hembe, Umar Mohammed Bago, Zakari
Mohammed, Chike Okafor, Dan Asuquo, Jagaba
Adms, Haliru Jika and Uzoma Abonta.
In the document filed yesterday, Jibrin, an All
Progressives Congress legislator, representing Kiru/
Bebeji Federal Constituency of Kano State, said he
had some conflicts with the House’s leadership
because he rejected their unlawful directives.
He said, in the document – a counter affidavit –
deposed to on his behalf by one of his lawyers,
Nura Abdulrrahman that one of such instances was
his “refusal to admit into the nation’s 2016 budget
the sum of about N30b.
“His refusal to cover up the decision of the 3rd to
14th defendants’ (Dogara and others’) unilateral
decision to allocate to themselves N40b out of the
N100b allocated to the entire National Assembly, in
addition to what he (Jibrin) considered as wasteful
projects of over N20b to the 3rd – 14th defendants’
constituencies.
“Even when he (Jibrin) had given the defendants/
respondents, especially the 3rd (Dogara) statistics
of 2000 new projects introduced into the
Appropriation Bill by less than 10 committee
members, the 3rd defendant took no decision or
corrective.
“When the inflation of the said budget became a
matter of public interest and controversy, the
defendant, especially the 3rd -14th started taking
measures to avoid responsibility and to place the
entire issue on the shoulders of the plaintiff so as
to use him (Jibrin) as a scapegoat,” Abdulrrahman
said in the counter affidavit filed in response to the
defendants’ notice of preliminary objection.
Jibrin denied claim by Dogara that he (the plaintiff)
was removed as the Chair of the House’s
Appropriation Committee. He said he voluntarily
resigned his position and informed Dogara to that
effect on July 20, 2016.
As against the defendants’ claim in their objection
that they were no planning to suspend Jibrin, and
that the House did not intend to reconvene before
the end of its vacation, Jibrin stated that Dogara
and others were plotting to reopen the House and
suspend him.
He urged the court to proceed to determine his
case. And grant all his reliefs, which include a
declaration that the decision taken by the
defendants at a meeting held on August 3, 2016 to
suspend the plaintiff as a member of the House of
Reps without granting him the right to fair hearing is
unlawful.
He also seeks a declaration that the defendants are
bound to comply with the provisions of sections 49,
54, 56 and 60 of the 199 Constitution and the
Standing Orders of the House of Reps, regulating its
sitting, procedure and other matters in the conduct
of its legislative functions as provided in the
Constitution and the Standing Orders made pursuant
to the Constitution.
Dogara and others have, in the notice of preliminary
objection they filed on Tuesday, urged the court to
decline jurisdiction to hear the case and strike it out
on the grounds that the suit disclosed “no
reasonable cause of action.”
The Clerk, Appropriation Committee of the House of
Representatives, Dr. Abel Ochigbo faulted Jibrin’s
claims and stated that there was no plan to
suspend him and that no meeting has been held to
that effect.
Ochigbo, who deposed to the affidavit supporting
the defendants’ objection, stated that all that were
done during the process leading to the passage of
the budget was within the law. He added that since
the budget has become law, nobody could query
the steps taken by the law makers.
“The 2016 Appropriation Act was duly passed by
the National Assembly and assented to by the
President of the federal Republic of Nigeria. The
issue of any officer of the House taking any
decisive action against any particular member or
members does not arise as the Appropriation Bill
has now become the Appropriation Act.
“The issue of inflation of the 2016 budget does not
arise as the Appropriation Bill was passed by the
House of Representatives pursuant to powers
vested in the House by the Constitution and in line
with the Standing Orders of the House.
“The Bill was duly certified pursuant to the
provisions of the Acts Authentication Act before it
was duly assented to by the President of the
Federal Republic of Nigeria and it is now being
executed as an Act of the National Assembly.”
Yesterday plaintiff’s lawyer, Abdulamid Mohammed
informed the court that the defendants served him
with their objection on Wednesday and that he has
filed a response. He sought a short stand down of
proceedings to enable him retrieve a copy of his
response from the court’s Registry.
Defendants’ lawyer, Kalu Onuoha objected to
Mohammed’s request for a stand-down. He sought
an adjournment to enable him study the plaintiff’s
response and decide whether or not to equally
respond.
Trial judge, Justice Okon Abang noted that since it
would be impossible for the court to conclude
hearing in the case before the end of the court’s
long vacation (September 9) it was unnecessary to
commence hearing in the case during vacation.
Justice Abang, who currently sits as the court’s
vacation judge, elected to return the case file to the
Chief Judge for reassignment after vacation. http://thenationonlineng.net/budget-padding-why-dogara-others-are-after-me-jibrin/

Is the boy an id!ot?

How can a jobless person be complaining about the food he is given while living under another persons roof and not even doing anything to assist in the house, my God people like that irritate me. What does he think he is? A king that came to your house to be pampered? At least he should help with something to show you and your husband gratitude for taking care of him instead of just sitting around from morning till evening asking for more food.

What a lousy human being.

OP next time you and he and your husband eat on the same table or in the same room make sure you pile his plate of food very high to like twice or three times the amount you give your husband, if your husband says its too much tell him politely the boy is always complaining that you don't give him enough food so you want to make sure you serve him enough henceforth.

Do it like four times in the presence of your husband and unless he is a millionaire that has money to throw away he will call the boy and caution him on his eating habits.
bad advice is second to Devil, mind u d guy is not jobless as d thread specifically stated he is a student. don't be wicked cos u give him food today do u know what he will do to u or ur children some day?

Religion / Are MouthAction And pre-intimacy Allowed In Islam? by balatukur: 3:31pm On Aug 23, 2016
Religious beliefs can either dampen or support your "nookie needs" and sexual preferences. Some say humans can't do without sex while others swear that celibacy is the only way to lead a pure life. A former professor and sheikh at the al-Imam University in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, `Abd al-Wahhâb al-Turayrî, takes a look at Islam's rules regarding going all the way. Note: a sheikh is a leader of the Islamic faith; he is considered wise and his teachings are respected by Muslim people. The dos and don'ts Sheikh `Abd al-Wahhâb al-Turayrî quotes the Prophet as saying that vaginal penetration may take place from the front or the back as long as long as anal sex and sex during menstruation is avoided. The Prophet also says that cruel is a man who "...has sex with his wife before pre-intimacy". Indicating that Islam is not opposed to stimulation before intimacy, and although anal penetration is considered unlawful, the Hanbali school of Islamic thought (one of the five Islam doctrines) states that handling the anus is allowed for pre-intimacy purposes as long as penetration does not occur. What does this mean for MouthAction? Sheikh `Abd al-Wahhâb al-Turayrî says that the Prophet is not against MouthAction as he makes no mention of it. Anything that is not clearly opposed or made unlawful by the Prophet is permissible. The Shafi`is and Hanbali doctrines consider sperm to be pure but state that it is unlawful to swallow the fluid. If the bodily fluids aren't swallowed then MouthAction is no different from kissing various parts of the body, which is is allowed for Muslims. But couples may not indulge in it to such a degree that oral replaces normal intercourse. The Hanbali followers of Islam say that even though Muslim couples don't swallow seminal fluid, those who participate in MouthAction should always rinse their mouths after the act as part of Islamic purification. Politics / Emergency Power: 7 Things Every Nigerian Should Know About Buhari's Request by balatukur: 3:00pm On Aug 23, 2016
The news of President Muhammadu Buhari
seeking emergency powers to reflate the
economy went gaga on the social media,
yesterday.
The emergency powers, according to
President Buhari and his economic team
will only last for one year.
According to the plan, the government is
expected to send an Executive Bill to the
National Assembly for Executive orders to
tackle the economic crisis.
The objectives of the action-plan on the
economy, which is in recession, include
shoring up the value of the naira, creation
of more jobs, boosting of foreign reserves,
reviving the manufacturing sector and
improving power.
Here are 7 things Nigerians need to know
about the president's request for
emergency powers to stimulate the
economy - by seeking to by-pass major
extant laws that may stand in as
bottlenecks.
1. More Funds for State Governments
The bill seeks to amend certain laws, such
as the Universal Basic Education (UBE)
Act 2004.
The UBE Act states in section 11, sub-
section 2, that “for any State to qualify for
the federal government block grant
pursuant to sub-section (1) of this section,
such State shall contribute not less than
50% of the total cost of projects as its
commitment in the execution of the
project”.
With most states cash-strapped, the bill
seeks to overrule this section, and allow
states access about N58 billion “stuck” in
UBEC’s coffers.
If the bill sails through, interested states
would have N58 billion to spend through
this economic crisis.
Analysts believed the proposal to review
the UBEC Laws will surely help to unlock
the liquidity, which the associated
spending will provide.
2. Boosting Foreign Reserves
Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves fell to
an 11-year low on August 19, 2016,
standing at $25.7billion.
With such depleting reserves, following a
plunge in crude oil prices, the government
is seeking to get emergency powers to sell
and/or lease government property to raise
$50 billion to shove the reserves.
3. End to Forex Crisis – Strengthening of
Nation's Currency
With reserves in good shape, it would
become immediately easier for the Central
Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to defend the naira,
and shore up its value in the face of
dwindling oil prices.
A vote for this bill by the national
assembly, should lead to a stronger naira
against the dollar, an end to forex scarcity,
and some stimulation in the Nigerian
economy.
4. Job Opportunities
According to the Nigerian Bureau of
Statistics report for the past three
quarters, at least 1.5 million Nigerians
have become unemployed.
The president and his team promised
employment, and had not effectively
delivered on that.
However, with the new bill, funds will be
allotted for many capital projects, which
will in turn generate employment.
With states having access to the UBE fund
as stated in the bill, the school feeding
programme of this administration may kick
off and create employment in Nigeria’s
vibrant informal sector.
5. Reducing Bureaucracy
The Nigerian procurement act has been
reported time and again as cumbersome,
stalling the speed of implementation of
government projects.
This bill seeks to also “support stimulus
spending on critical sectors of the
economy; make orders to favour local
contractors/suppliers in contract awards”
6. Flexible Visa Process
Nigeria is desperate for foreign investment;
foreign portfolio investment had declined
by 86 percent in the past year, while
foreign direct investment had plummeted
by over 50 percent.
Osinbajo, who confirmed this at a
presidential policy dialogue in Lagos, said
the government was working on policies
aimed at reducing fiscal and forex
imbalances, boosting dollar liquidity,
lending to the real sector, and increasing
“FDIs and FPI by sustaining enabling
policies”.
The bill, according to reports, seeks “to
embark on radical reforms in visa issuance
at Nigeria’s consular offices and on arrival
in the country”.
This visa process, similar to that of the
United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Ghana’s
newly-adopted system, is to ensure ease
of movement by investors into Nigeria.
7. Ease of Doing Business
Nigeria has lagged many developing
countries on the ease of doing. The
bottlenecks are enormous, the laws are
strenuous, the tax policies are repetitive.
The bill seeks to address some of these
issues and improve the ease of doing
business in Nigeria.
The office of the vice president, when
contacted, neither confirmed nor denied,
the existence of the bil. https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/emergency-power-7-things-every-nigerian-should-know-about-buharis-request.220192/

Romance / He Made Me Drink His Urine And Has Been Beating Me From Day 1 by balatukur: 2:53pm On Aug 21, 2016
A 29-year-old trader, Taiwo Ayoade, has appealed to the Inalende customary court sitting at Inalende, Mokola, Ibadan, Oyo State, to dissolve the one-year and a few months marriage between her and her husband, Olusola Ayoade, over constant beating, which started on their wedding day in April 2015. She also accused her husband of misbehaving each time he smokes marijuana. According to Taiwo, she’s tired of his several beatings and that was why she filed a divorce suit against him. “One day, I went to the church with my younger sister and came back at 2:30pm. On getting home, I already knew from his countenance that he was angry. Not taking into consideration that I had just come into the house, he requested for his food. I told him I was sorry for the delay. As if it was wrong to have said ‘sorry,’ he slapped me three times. Not minding his action, I headed for the kitchen. As I began the cooking, he moved towards me and beat me to the extent that I had bruises all over my body and was bleeding until a neighbour came to my rescue,” she told the court. Taiwo told the court that she had reported the case to Olusola’s brother because his father is late, saying the only statement his mother uttered was that she should try to endure. The court asked if Taiwo could state a reason why her husband developed the habit of beating her. She replied, “because he saw my ‘best lady’s’ man friend on our wedding day.” Taiwo further told the court that Olusola smokes hemp and that anytime he does that, he would lock her up in the room and beat her. “There was a day he urinated in one of our water jugs and asked me to drink it,” she said. The court further asked if she did. In response, Taiwo replied “Yes, I drank it.” President of the court, Mr Olafenwa Ramoni, in his ruling, dissolved the marriage, saying it was clear that the love between Taiwo and Olusola Ayoade has broken down beyond repair. However, a copy of the judgement is to be given to the defendant, Olusola while both parties go separate their ways in peace. http://tribuneonlineng.com/made-drink-urine-beating-day-1/
Crime / I Got Information On How To Kill Through Google, And Killed His Girl by balatukur: 12:15pm On Aug 21, 2016
Ask Google’ is a common refrain when people need
answers to issues they cannot solve ordinarily. But
a 19-year-old undergraduate, Ade (surname
withheld), recently made wrong use of the
application when he used it to search on what he
could to do to a girlfriend who refused to abort a
two-month-old pregnancy she had for him.
At the end of his search, he got a knife, went to his
girlfriend’s house and stabbed her twice on the
stomach and also slashed her throat.
The suspect is currently in police net at the State
Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department
(SCIID), Oyo State Police Command, over an alleged
murder attempt.
Crime Reports learnt that Ade, a 100 level student
in one of the universities in the South Western part
of Nigeria, allegedly committed the act on
Thursday, August 11, at the residence of his
girlfriend’s parents at Sango-Alaro area of Ibadan at
about 2:30p.m.
But for the presence of a policeman, Sergeant Ayeni
Oluwafemi, who was the girl’s neighbour and who
heard her cry, Crime Reports learnt that the 19-year-
old victim would have died in a pool of her blood
while his assailant would have escaped. But on
rushing to the room where the cry came from, the
policeman reportedly met the suspect, holding a
knife and about to walk out. He promptly pushed
him back, handcuffed his hands and called for
assistance to save the girl.
Ade, who spoke with Crime Reports, confessed that
he acted the way he did because “my girlfriend got
pregnant for me.”
The teenage also told Crime Reports during an
interview that he got the clue on how to resolve the
issue of his unwanted pregnancy through the help of
Google.
According to the young man, “I met my girlfriend
about two months ago on Facebook. We had a
mutual friend and I added her. She accepted my
request and we got to know each other. I proposed
a relationship to her and she accepted. We had sex
only once on July 4. I did not protect myself.
“On August 10, she told me that she was pregnant.
The next morning, on Thursday August 11, she
called me that her parents wanted to see me. I went
to her parents at Alaro area of Ibadan and they
wanted to know what my intention was on the
pregnancy. I suggested that she had an abortion but
they said they could not abort for their daughter
because it was against their belief. I told them that
I would get back to them on Monday, August 15.
“I left for home confused, but on the way home,
different thoughts went through my mind because I
didn’t want my parents to know. I didn’t want to
disappoint them. I was with my phone at home and
I picked it and typed “What to do if my girlfriend
does not want to have an abortion on Google”. It
brought out different options that I can deny, which I
didn’t deny.
“Another option was to convince her to have an
abortion, which did not work. There were also other
options but the last one was that I could kill her. I
chose that option because she was the only one
who knew my house and I believed that if I killed
her, no one would be able to trace my house and I
would get away with my action.
“To kill, Google gave me an option to use poison,
which I knew no pharmacy would sell to me. Other
options were to use a gun or a knife. Knife was
easy to get, so I went to the market same day to
buy a knife and returned to her house. I did not
meet her at home so I called her and waited for
her. When she came in, I attacked her with the knife
but she was resisting. I stabbed her on the right
and left sides of her stomach and slashed her
throat.
“Unfortunately for me, her screams got to a
neighbour and he came in. Coincidentally, he is a
policeman so he handcuffed me and I was arrested.
It was the fear of disappointing my parents that
made me take the action.”
Crime Reports learnt that though the lady survived
the attack, she was still in the Intensive Care Unit of
a hospital in the South West part of Nigeria where
doctors had been battling to keep her alive.
Confirming the incident, the police image-maker in
Oyo State, Adekunle Ajisebutu, a Superintendent of
Police, said that the suspect would be arraigned in
court after the conclusion of investigations. http://tribuneonlineng.com/i-got-information-kill-google-says-undergraduate-stabbed-pregnant-girlfriend/
Crime / She Lied To Me, Infected Me With Magun, Then I Bathed Her With Acid by balatukur: 10:31am On Aug 21, 2016
The long arm of the law has caught up with 43-year
old Yisau Adeleke, nine months after he went into
hiding, as he has been arrested by the Oyo State
Police Command for bathing his lover with acid
after he discovered that she was a married woman,
contrary to her claim of being a widow.
Adeleke, who allegedly committed the offence on
November 25, 2015, was arrested on August 7 at
about 7:00a.m. at a radio station in Ibadan where
he had gone to respond to his lover’s complaint on
how he turned her into a monster through acid bath.
Crime Reports learnt that the victim, Mrs Morufa
Ajoke Odesanya, reported at Oluyole police station
on Novermber 25, 2015 that Adeleke bathed her
with acid at about 9:05p.m after she responded to
his call to meet him at a certain spot in her
neighbourhood.
Sources informed Crime Reports that the victim
admitted that she had an affair with the suspect
before he carried out the act. The 36-year-old lady,
a mother of five, was said to be legally married to
her husband at the time she started having an affair
with Adeleke, but reportedly deceived him into
believing that she was a widow.
In an interview with Adeleke, he narrated the
genesis of his relationship with his victim and what
led him to the action he took thus: “I was arrested
because I poured acid on a lady I regarded as my
fiancée until I discovered otherwise.
“I had a wife, Ronke, who had two children for me
but I later discovered that she had two children for
two men before she married me. She also decided
that she had had the number of children that she
wanted, asking me to look for another woman if I
needed more. She went for family planning.
“I started dating Morufa and she asked me to rent a
room, which I did at Idi Arere, Ibadan. She told me
she was a widow with two children. She used to
bring the two children to Idi Arere. She also took
me to where she was living at Elebu area of Ibadan,
saying that the house belonged to her aunt.
“She showed me a man who she claimed to be her
brother, but whom I later discovered to be her
husband. She took me to her mother and I took her
to my aunt who was like my mother to introduce
her as my wife-to-be. Morufa used to come and
stay with me at the rented apartment and I had to
tell my wife that she could leave because I had
already got a wife.
“We used to have sex regularly to the level that
even during her menstrual period, she would beg
me to have sex with her, saying she could not keep
off me. This continued until the day I came in
contact with Magun (a charm usually placed
diabolically on wayward women as a punishment
for their lovers) in the course of our affair. It was as
if my navel was twisted and I also had a tongue
twist. I started feeling dizzy. This made me to raise
the alarm and Morufa also started crying. An
Islamic cleric came to my rescue by making some
incantations.
“Though I became a bit relieved, the stomach ache
continued and the next thing Morufa said was that
she believed that the Magun was the handiwork of
her mother-in-law. I asked whether she went to her
mother-in-law and for the reason she would want to
harm her daughter-in-law’s fiancé since her son
was dead. “To my surprise, Morufa called me same day and
asked about my condition. She then added that she
had sex with one Baba Bidemi, and it proved that
what I experienced was not Magun. Baba Bidemi
was the man she called her brother. I was confused
and this made me to decide that I was no longer
interested in the relationship if she could deceive
me for about two years that we were together. She
started begging me.
“I probed her further and she confessed that the
man was her husband and that she had five
children, though she initially told me that three
children she did not declare as her own were born
by the wife of her ‘brother’ before they divorced.
“I stopped going to her husband’s house but we
were still meeting because I wanted to collect the
money I contributed as a member of a group we
formed for the purpose of contributing money that
we could collect in bulk. I got number six and
number 20.
“She collected the first one and when I was to
collect the second one after the discovery of her
lies, she told me that she gave it to her brother
(husband) to pay FRSC fine. But to my surprise,
when I saw the brother (husband), he was riding a
brand new motorcycle. This infuriated me so much
because I felt used.
“She continued to plead with me to forgive her,
saying that I was the salt of her life. But I was so
hurt by her deception and the devil pushed me to an
evil act. So I conceived the plan to pour acid on
her. On November 25, 2015, she asked me to come
and collect my money, and I took the acid jar along
with me.
“We stood at a point not too far from her residence
and in the course of our discussion I brought out
the jar, opened it and poured the content on her.
She screamed and ran off, while a bit of the liquid
splashed on me. I also ran away to my village at
Omi Adio to hide until a week ago when I learnt that
she reported me at a radio station. I was at the
radio station to state my own side when police
came to arrest me.”
Adeleke said he was shocked when he saw Morufa
because he did not know that the acid burns were
that extensive, expressing regret at his action.
Meanwhile the lady is said to be in excruciating
pain and would need about N3 million to carry out
corrective surgery because of the way she was. http://tribuneonlineng.com/lied-infected-magun-i-bathed-acid/

Politics / The Buhari Many Don’t Know by balatukur: 9:02am On Aug 21, 2016
FOR so long, many Nigerians have been attempting to study and decode President Muhammadu Buhari, using different lenses. Some only had a modicum of clue on who he may be, counting on the code of information they obtained from the media when he first romped into global limelight as the Nigerian head of state in a military garb. During that military era, Buhari occurred to a section of expectant Nigerians as a no-nonsense dictator with brazen disposition to power. Pairing in leadership with the late Brigadier Tunde Idiagbon, adjudged as restless, hardworking and unsmiling made the Buhari’s regime almost a nightmare for Nigerians who took business as usual all through the period he reigned as Head of State. Nonetheless, many perceived and saw Buhari as a Messiah with the military government he presided over. Nigeria was in rot when he took over in 1983. Indiscipline and corruption were in great synergy to incinerate the glory that Nigeria carried from independence. The sacked civilian government presided over by former President Shehu Shagari operated recklessly. Cabinet members acted like heists with moral bankruptcy while being less patriotic in the judgement of many. When the Buhari military regime came on board, frustrated Nigerians trooped to the streets in wild celebration. The reproach thrown up by the rising tide of social vices in all parts of the country after the collapse of Second Republic made the War Against Indiscipline (WAI) launched by his government very compelling. Nigerians were remoulded by WAI in conduct and character while the government enforced discipline all through. From then on, Buhari struck gold in popularity that lingered with him till he got elected as president in May 29, 2015. For President Buhari, history appears to be on re- hearse, as the throwback of mismanaged opportunities, which Nigeria suffered under the government of Shagari, seems to be on display again. In simple terms, the government of former President Goodluck Jonathan offered Nigerians mirrors of infractions, excesses and lack of focus akin to what political players exhibited in the Second Republic. Nigeria gravitated towards the precipice under the government of former President Jonathan. In that government, acts of corruption ballooned uncontrollably, leading to growing terrorism, insecurity and other heinous social vices. Then battered Nigerians electorate craved for emergence of a Messiah. Again, Buhari emerged to play the role. For President Buhari, however, saving Nigeria from imminent collapse entails a fight against corruption, terrorism and the need to re-grow the economy. He also needs to engage the swarming army of the unemployed in the productive sector. These are daunting challenges, which he needs to address in a short time. Yet, Nigerians appear unprepared to appreciate the enormity of the challenge and dilemma that the Buhari government faces day and night in efforts to correct the ills of the past, while taking off with the Change mantra. It is not in doubt that the President has fully addressed his mind to bring about the changes that Nigeria needs. Those who work closely with him attest to his desire and determination to take Nigeria out of the woods. The aggregate view is that the President is a man to be fully understood by Nigerians who want to know where he aims to take the country. Buhari, is said to start his day, leaving no one around him in doubt that the ‘change’ that he preaches must start from his own office. The President leads by example. He is said to be desirous of building up institutions that will outlive him. He is also said to depend on his protocol department to operate hitch free standards on crowd control in the seat of government. The president is a stickler for time with perceived determination to change the poor attitude of Nigerians on time matters. He attends events on schedule, gradually sweeping off all elements of time wasting that had for years led to waste of public funds. Under him, guests at events are never kept waiting for hours in a manner they were used to with past Presidents and leaders. By his body language, President Buhari appears not keen on living the opulence that the presidential power offers. His close aides attest to the fact that the President eats moderately, don moderate attires, rides in simple official cars, while he most eagerly avoids any act likely to generate a scandal. Although, there have been hues on the long list of foreign travels he had made so far, only a few knew that President Buhari, all along, has not been collecting allowances, or estacodes, contrary to insinuations. He is said to be content with arrangements made for his comforts by host countries. Buhari is also noted to have pruned down the number of officials in his entourage on every trip as a means of saving cost. Before Buhari came to power, successive President’s saw nothing wrong in subjecting Abuja residents to long gruelling hours of discomfort in traffic gridlocks with roadblocks to ease their movements in and out of Abuja. President Buhari has put a stop to that, offering a relief by flying in helicopter to his destinations, most especially to free the traffic along the airport road. President Buhari once went to an open Eid-ground in Abuja for prayers and surprisingly found himself surrounded by more than a mammoth crowd of admirers, all surging to catch a glimpse of him. The stampede which ensued in the process reportedly touched the President who immediately resolved to limit his spiritual exercises to the Presidential Villa as a way out. For Nigerians who crave to understand the President better, Ministers and heads of governments have been having the free will to display initiatives while not being emasculated. According to reports, President Buhari only acts as an enabler, a guide for ensuring that the plans by his government to re- invent Nigeria works in the long run. The desire by the President to allow institutional growth and development is the reason he hardly meddles in the affairs of the other arms of government; the legislature and judiciary, which he felt have the internal mechanism to make adjustments each time they erred. By now critics should be aware that the success President Buhari has been recording in the fight against terrorism and corruption, the process of regenerating the economy through diversification as well as his cost saving initiatives, are a testament that his government is on the right track towards bringing back hope for the citizens. Today, under the government of President Buhari, the railway system is staging a comeback. The government, having launched the commercial operation of Abuja-Kaduna train services is to commence the second phase; the Lagos-Ibadan rail project already captured in the 2016 budget. As proposed, the rail line will eventually terminate in Kano. All the same, attention is being focused on the growth of agriculture as efforts are geared towards making Nigeria emerge as the largest exporter of rice product, starting first from Africa. In addition to the gradual return of peace to the northeast ravaged by the Boko Haram war, the government has started the rebuilding process with outpouring of foreign aid to fast track all plans. As Niger Delta continues to pose a serious question to the growth of the economy, signs are emerging that the ongoing negotiation with the militants who blow up pipelines in the oil-producing zone would offer a lasting solution. Also, the synergy between Nigeria and China, the second largest economy in the world looks positive enough to catalyse the growth of the economy based on extant bilateral agreements between the two on trade and investments. The economic challenges it faces notwithstanding, larger economies in America and Europe are beckoning on Nigeria for businesses. Britain, for instance, has started lowering its guard to court Africa, Nigeria in particular as a ploy for overcoming the shock it suffered from Brexit. It is therefore, a matter of time for the fruits of efforts currently being dissipated by the Buhari’s government on economic revival to be felt. All the president requires are personal sacrifices and the understanding, support and cooperation of all Nigerians. Crime / The Negotiator Aisha Wakil, Boko Haram Calls Mummy Is Igbo by balatukur: 9:38am On Aug 20, 2016
Barrister Aisha Wakil who was declared wanted by
the Nigerian military authorities last Sunday was
until recent largely unknown. Almost always totally
veiled, her identity has been as inscrutable as the
tale about her origins. Popular folklore is that the
woman activist, who was born into an Igbo Christian
family converted to Islam during her time at the
University of Maiduguri where she studied law.
Prior to the transformation of the Islamic Boko
Haram sect into a fighting force in 2009, Wakil was
well known to have close ties with Mohammed
Yusuf, the leader of the sect, whose killing led to
the radical transformation of the group. Following
her education, she settled in Maiduguri and made a
home with another lawyer, Wakil Gana who is
presently a judge with the Borno
The news report declaring Aisha wanted
undoubtedly came to her and nearly all who knew
her with surprise especially against the fact that she
had almost always carried out her conduct and
liaisons with Boko Haram with the knowledge of the
authorities. In fact, she is known to be a staff of the
National Human Rights Commission, NHRC and
was during the Goodluck Jonathan administration
an important liaison that was used to make
contacts with the Boko Haram.
She has not for once denied a link with the group,
having said in separate fora that she knew some of
the insurgents right from when they were
circumcised.
It was perhaps on that account that when the
Jonathan administration constituted a committee to
negotiate with Boko Haram she featured
prominently on the list. Even more, when the Boko
Haram group announced a group of prominent
northerners to negotiate with the government she
and her husband, Justice Wakil were featured
among those nominated by the group.
Calling the Boko Haram insurgents at one point as
her children who moved in and out, she said:
“That was how I got to know most of them. Then
they were not Boko Haram and Jama’atu ah-lil
Sunnah members. It is surprising how these children
turned out to be what they are now. I keep on
saying there is certainly no smoke without fire.
Something must have triggered those innocent-
looking children to grow up behaving the way they
are behaving now.
“You needed to see them growing up. Sometimes
when I start talking about them, I shed tears. Those
children prayed, and still pray a lot. I have a
mosque in the house, and they would always go in
and pray.”
Wakil narrated how she started noticing changes in
them. How they would go out in the morning and
return in the evening and during the fasting period,
they would not return until around 11 or 12
midnight. They also started attending Muhammad
Yusuf’s lectures to listen to his preaching.
“I didn’t observe anything strange about the
teaching. Soon, the children began to be conscious
of themselves. It was then that the rumour started
that they were planning a war. When I heard of it, I
went straight to Muhammad Yusuf because I had
been very close to him. When I realized that
Muhammad Yusuf was frequently being arrested,
detained and released, I went to Baba Fugu and
asked him why his son-in-law was always being
detained? But I learnt he was always preaching
things the government didn’t like and insulting
them.”
At the peak of the crisis when few dared to come
out, Aisha was able to mobilise some Borno
women to come out to protest against the situation.
At that time she was quoted to have referred to the
Boko Haram insurgents as her children.
“My sons, I have been begging you since in silence
to come out and state your grievances and stop
destroying your homeland. Please come out and
state your grievances and stop these killings,” she
was quoted to have tearfully said. Just as she is
almost never seen without being fully veiled from
the crown of her head to the sole of her feet,
Aisha’s origin has been almost always veiled from
Nigerians.
The nearest revelation about her linkage to being
Igbo was when she was quoted to have disclosed
in an interview with a national newspaper her peace-
making efforts
According to her, she “started the dialogue process
since 2009, even before the major crisis erupted
because I knew their slain spiritual leader,
Muhammad Yusuf. His father-in-law, late Alhaji
Baba Fugu Mohammed, was my spiritual father in
Islam, and I used to visit his home.
“In fact, Mohammed Yusuf almost married my
younger sister Amina, but Almighty Allah did not
make it possible. So that was how I got closer to
the duo. It went even to the extent that I was
cooking food and taking it to the house of late
Alhaji Fugu, to the pupils of the Qur’anic school,
(almajari).
“And because I am from the southern part of the
country, I normally prepared southern dishes, which
Yusuf had always come to eat. In fact, he liked my
egusi soup very much, and we became very close
when his father-in-law told him that I was the one
who cooked the food. So anytime we met, he
expressed delight and prayed that Almighty Allah
would reward me, for he was eating from my pot
and that was how I established a strong relationship
with him,” she was quoted as sayin. http://newsrescue.com/woman-aisha-wakil-boko-haram-calls-mummy-igbo/?utm_source=NewsRescue&utm_medium=facebook#axzz4HrKJbLi8
Politics / Atiku To Contests For 2019 President Under PDP by balatukur: 9:15am On Aug 20, 2016
Abuja – The crises bedeviling the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) have been blamed on the adoption of former Vice President Atiku Abubakar to fly the flag of the PDP in 2019. Abubakar was the vice president during the eight years in which President Olusegun Obasanjo ran the country under the platform of the PDP. A member of the G-34, which saw to the formation of the PDP, the former vice president used his financial war chest to see to the success of the party until schism and internal bickering in the Presidency made him join the opposition. But things appeared to have changed as emerging facts show that PDP governors and other notable leaders in the party may have identified him as the most viable candidate to wrest power from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) after the 2015 presidential fiasco. Independent gathered that some hawks in the troubled party had conceived earlier in the year that ex-president and current African most celebrated democratic icon, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan might be the ideal candidate due to his rising domestic and international stocks but he turned it down, advising that the leaders of the party should search more broadly. Jonathan was said to have been approached by the controversial factional chairman of the party, Ali Modu-Sheriff to provide N3 trillion so that he could be adopted as the party’s sole candidate when “the time was ripe,” a source in the National Working Committee told Independent. Even though the source could not clarify if Jonathan was personally informed, he was sure the former president knew and when reports were brought back that the former president was not disposed to ruling the country again, “Sheriff started to nurse the ambition. That was why he manipulated some current PDP governors to adopt him until 2018 when he would step down as the party’s chairman and be adopted as the sole candidate to run for president.” But things did not work out, the source said, adding that in one of the meetings held at the residence of a former senator from the north central zone, Mr Sheriff’s calculations were immediately uncovered. “His calculations were made clear at the meetings. So moves were made to first unify the northern PDP members and then reach out to the south. The knock out blow was the shrewd role of Senator Ibrahim Mantu and former Minister, Professor Jerry Gana, who stuck to their guns and informed PDP governors and other members of what was in the offing. “At the first Port Harcourt’s conference, the table turned as Rivers State and Ekiti State governors quickly aligned with the Mantu group and left Modu- Sheriff alone,” the source explained. “Once that was achieved amid erroneous courts judgement that were obtained by Modu-Sheriff, the need to quickly shop for ideal candidates started. At a meeting in the governor’s lodge of one of the south south states, it was agreed that two PDP members who decamped to APC were ideal candidates.” The source explained that the two mentioned were Atiku and Senate President Bukola Saraki. To achieve this, a more amenable and corrupt-free party chairman must be chosen. “The need to zone it to the south was strategic just like the need to zone the party’s candidate to the north was,” another source explained. “The calculations were not to scheme out people but to let a popular candidate win and that popular candidate, by the governors calculations who are scheming to clear the way for Atiku, was Jimi Agbaje. The PDP governors accepted him without a dissenter. And he is not running for the Alausa office again.” Sources then told Independent that the governors settled for Atiku owing to his complete understanding of the political process, broad political space he has created, stupendous financial possession and his position on key issues plaguing the nation – true federalism. “He is for true federalism. The larger south sees him as one of theirs. Far above that, his acceptance to provide a whopping N3 trillion for the party since PDP is no longer in power and would compete against federal resources was far seen as an incentive than anything else,” the source averred. According to the plan, Abubakar would officially decamp early next year after all the party’s structures have been created. A lot of consultations are ongoing such that once he decamps, “about 30 political parties would adopt him to send a strong message of his acceptability.” According to another source in the PDP’s National Executive Committee, Abubakar prefers to use the platform he helped to form, he nurtured and “served in as a VP. Far from that, you can see the disenchantment in the nation. Even the APC is bogged down with internal crisis. The party is disappearing because of infighting. PDP did not witness this when it was in power. While it had crisis, the party’s chairman was not made to look like a little and confused boy as you see in APC. “But the APC’s undoing is their unreadiness to lead the country. The indices are against them. Nothing is working. Even those ruling us are hungry and angry, could you imagined? That is why they are confused and Nigerians are against them. “Would you run under such a crazy platform? Abubakar I know would not accept that. In no time, he would come back home because the PDP is his home. He would come with over 300 Atiku Abubakar support groups. Do you know what that means? With last Wednesday’s Federal High Court ruling in Abuja barring Modu-Sheriff from parading himself as the PDP chairman, sources say a new convention date might be announced and the venue could be changed to Abuja. This hint emerged on Friday as almost all PDP bigwigs gathered in Abia State for late Chief Ojo Madueke’s interment. Leaders of the party, a particular source said would discuss the last Wednesday’s botched party convention in Port Hacourt informally and seek for a short date for “a mother of all convention.” http://independentnig.com/375708-2/

Crime / Customs Impound 31 Containers Of Rice At Lagos Port by balatukur: 11:00pm On Aug 19, 2016
The Nigerian Customs Service (NCS) has impounded 31 containers of rice that was illegally imported into the country.
The items, which the market value was yet to be determined, were seized Friday, at the Tin-Can Island Container Terminal (TICT), Lagos.

Addressing reporters at the venue of the seizure in Lagos Friday, the Comptroller-General of Customs (CGC) Col Hameed Ali who was represented by a Deputy Comptroller-General ( DCG) Dan Ugo said the items were shipped into the from China.
The importer, he said, wanted to shortchange the government by declaring the items as yeast in his bill of laden.
Yeast importation, Ali said, attracts five per cent duty, while rice attracts 110 per cent duty and 60 per cent levy.

For falsifying his document and wanted to cheat the government, the Comptroller-General has therefore, declared that over 40, 000 bags of rice inside the containers as outright seizure without any option of payment for the importer.

The measure, he said, was applied to serve as deterrent to other scrupulous importers operating at the nation’s sea ports and border stations.

Investigation by The Nation revealed that some of the container number in which the rice were shipped into the country through the MAERSK LINE include the following: MSKU: 410819 (6) 22 G1, MSKU: 711125 (4) 22 G1, PONU: 033850 (2) 22 G1, MSKU: 339624 (6) 22 G1, MSKU: 753283 (9) 22 G1, PONU: 205422 (cool 22 G1, MRKU: 857850 (cool 22 G1, PONU:000208 (2) 22 G1, MSKU: 763801 (3) 22 G1, MSKU: 365294 (4) 22 G1, GATU: 054746 (6) 22 G1, MRKU: 715521 (9) 22 G1, MSKU: 741347 (0) 22G1, PONU: 044185(0) 22 G1, CLHU: 30353322 (7) G1, ZIMU: 129944 (6) 22 G1, MRKU: 731946 (2) 22 G1, MSKU: 788942 (5) 22 G1, MRKU: 654641 (4) 22 G1, MSKU: 521748 (4) 22 G1, MSKU: 405022 (1) 22G1, MSKU: 206425 (2) 22 G1, MRKU: 729473 (9) 22 G1, MRKU: 986083 (5) 22 G1, MRKU: 681160 (5) 22 G1, MAEU: 679395 (3) 22 G1, MRSU: 026634 (2) 22 G1, PONU: 01906722 G1, MRKU:777063 (0) 22G1 and MRSU: 015690 (0) 22G1
He said that the rice laden containers were ferried by Maersk Line vessel to Tincan Island Container Terminal (TICT) at the port.

He bemoaned the situation where the importer deliberately made false declaration in a bid to evade duty.

The CGC retracted that the era false declaration and debit note was over; saying importers with false declaration of imports would be punished by the government.

“We have told clearing agents and importers to do genuine declaration. We are all talking of trade facilitation at port and some importers are busy abusing the system,” he said.
