By: B.M. Abiodun The word rally, in this context means a mass meeting of people making a political protest or showing support for a cause. That is, showing support or expressing acceptance of the candidature of a person in an election. It is pertinent to fully understand the word before we excavate on the word and what I have noticed as election day draws near. "In order to rally people, governments need enemies. They want us to be afraid, to hate, so we will rally behind them. And if they do not have a real enemy, they will invent one in order to mobilize us." -Thich Nhat Hanh The above quote exemplifies what it means to politicians. It is more or less a signifier - a signifier of level of acceptability among the people. There are even reports of inducements due to this. It has turned out that politicians, have been doing all they can to invite crowds to their rallies. Political scientists have different views regarding the large turn out at rallies. Some believe it could be a proof of the candidate's popularity while a large number of them asserts that it may not indicate the level of acceptability and popularity among the electorates. Firstly, let me say unequivocally that the large turn out at rallies doesn't justify the acceptability of candidate. In fact, the Action Progressive Congress has been accused of offering inducements to people to attend the party's rally. We haven't gotten to a stage where we vote for personality of the candidate - we still only think about the party, so such things can't be avoided for now. To have mammoth crowd at rallies are borne out of several reasons. To outshine the opposition is a reason for mammoth crowd at rallies - but not the sole reason. If 'A' party has a large turnout in Lagos for rally, 'B' party in Rivers will try its best to attract large numbers. However, if such won't happen, the crowds won't be naturally-driven. This means they will get settlements for filling up the empty chairs with their asses. Also, people turnout for rallies out of curiosity. Let's say President Buhari visits Ayobo today, what do you think? Mummy Kafayat, an average Nigerian barely having three square meal, lives around Ayobo, and she is just N100 away from getting to Ayobo. Don't you think she would love to see the number one citizen of Nigeria . Well, she is going there out of her curiosity - she may even think money will be given out. I myself would love to see the leaders of the APC. Lastly, It comes as a surprise to me that party lovers are predicting the outcome of tomorrow's election based on turnout at rallies. If perhaps, all the crowds are loyal to the party, it won't come as a surprise if half of them don't get to express their franchise. A lot of factors come into play here. It doesn't matter if people turn out en masse for rallies; it matters if they are really Nigerians. Starting from Saturday, Nigerians will see whether those who have been attending rallies are true supporters of candidates or not. Let me reiterate unequivocally: large turnout in campaign doesn't indicate the acceptability of candidates among electorates. [img][/img]

FUOYE my FUOYE. My public private university. |
It is unacceptable. Federal university? No. Public private university? Yes. |
I am Muktar. The reason I created this thread is to help me-I just gained admission into one of Nigerian universities. All I need are materials. Any sorts of files: PDF and others for all MAC's courses, ranging from Introduction to Mass Com, African Communication System, Basic Communication Skills to other courses I will still have to face as I get to the advanced stage of studying this course. Also, your advice will help a great deal. I wish to be the best I can be in this field and I hope you'll play your part in aiding what's ahead of me. How can I answer questions in exam? How to study? Is cramming advisable? It is pellucid that these aforementioned questions can be answered by level 2, 3 and 4 students. In any way, please help me achieve my goal. For real? |
I just gained admission into one of the Nigerian university. I am from an average Nigerian citizen home. I have this problem of financing my study. Hence, I thought, Nairaland will be really helpful. All I need are scholarships exam which are going to be available in 2018 with their respective dates. This thread isn't a self-centered one-as the subject of this thread implies: "Help the newly admitted ones". I patiently wait for your abubble responses. |

My DELL laptop has been giving me a problem since yesterday morning and I am yet to find a solution to it. BSOD popularly known as Blue Screen of Death-it appears when I try to boot my system and my system keeps rebooting. I also can't get into safe mode. I have also tried the F8 options, all prove abortive. Anyone with a solution should please help a broke guy. |

Try to ignore her for few days, I know it is childish but she will grovel at your feet forever. Guys getting obsessed with their girlfriends does not seem decorous, but having the woman you love get obsessed with you is the phenomenon that seems seemly. You are a man, overcome this and step into another level of maturity. |
BrotherJesu:I regret not telling her I love her before she died. I love you mum. |
As far as I know, FUOYE school fees is far higher than this. |
