NYSCRe: Prospective NYSC 2017 Batch B Corps Members by BamBella(m):
Hello everyone!
I'm a 2017 batch A serving Corp member currently doing my one year mandatory National Youth Service in RIVERS state

I can see you all are so happy and anxious to go serve your country, which of course is a privilege. The thread is buzzing with comments grin as you all cannot wait to go experience the much talked about NYSC orientation camp. But believe me that you'll never know what is called rest the moment you step your foot into the orientation camps until you have completed your three weeks orientation programme, the compulsory early morning, afternoon and evening drills will even make most of you desert this thread. tongue

For those posted to Rivers state, the soldiers in Nonwa Gbam-Tai Orientation camp here in Rivers state are very friendly and can be so annoying the same time, Lol. They can make you all sit under the hot sun for as long as they want at the slightest provocation shocked.

Also, be ready to attend the boring SAED lectures from the second week of your stay at the orientation camp. I can categorically tell you all that it is one of the most boring lectures you will ever attend in your entire lives embarassed. I can remember during my time in one of those boring SAED lectures, you all need to see the way yours faithfully was battling with sleep in the hall, to make the whole thing worse, I was seated in front grin. I didn't know NYSC camp was like this, else I for no come, that was all I kept on saying until the lecture ended for that day.

Anyway, this isn't to scare you guys but to inform you all as to what you'll get when you get to camp.

I'll advise you guys to come to camp with at least 25k, whether or not you'll eat from the camp kitchen. I for one, I spent close to 30k despite the fact that I took food from the camp kitchen everyday, but you know man has got to visit Mammy na cool.

And also, please don't make more than 5 copies of each documents, you won't be needing more than 2 of each for your registration in camp, don't let anyone deceive you. Na sango go kill those guys wey advise me to make 15 copies each, I did not use up to 3 copies of each of my documents all through my stay in camp huh

I don't wanna bore you guys too much, for those posted to Rivers state, feel free to holla me for directions to Nomwa Gbam Tai orientation camp

Thanks for this sir, this nonesense really has to stop. i have thought of this for a very long time and found out that even the mods are the co supporters (am afraid) , if not, words like afonjas, Igbos, skull miners, developer, NCAN and other offensive words against other tribes would have been abolished and be censord or rather monitored with penalty for the offenders
How can aclaimed leaders of tommorrow be fighting and hating each other just because of old men who have held us ransome for more than 50years. If we continue like this, then their is no need for unity . We dont even care for each other again. any sad news we see on front page, we rush in just to Check names and fool on and still we would be decieving ourselves that our unity is unegotiable.. . Hahahaha.
Wake up family, we need to be one and help our country because, if we continue like this, our nation will still be like this in the next century.these old men needs to acknowledge our relivance but not with the stupidity we display online. think before you comment.
Quote me wrong and you will be thrown overboard
It is saddening sir, I wish Seun will do something about it. Let every member of this forum that engages in such activity be handed a life ban, at least that will go a long way in curbing the menace. We all must come together and collectively do something about it otherwise it may consume us someday.
Nairaland GeneralRising Wave Of Tribalism On Nairaland. by BamBella(op):
Good day fellow nairalanders!

Firstly, let me start by commending Seun Osewa for his brilliant idea in creating this platform.

As we all know, Nairaland since its inception as an online public forum has created an opportunity and a level ground for both the young and old, rich and poor irrespective of their background, religious and political affiliation to air their views on matters bothering on on our personal affairs and general welfare as a nation. So far, I must say it has achieved its purpose by helping to bring about oneness amongst Nigerians.

On the contrary, I think Nairaland is gradually losing its relevance as of recent. I've carefully observed a saddening development amongst some members of this great forum which is what I want to talk about, it is about the issue of TRIBALISM. I think I do not necessarily need to stress or emphasise what tribalism is as most of us here are quite conversant with the word. This issue of tribalism has so much eaten deep into some members of this forum that they cannot reason and see beyond their nose.

Yesterday two threads made it to the front-page, one was about a Nigerian who was caught while attempting to rob an apartment in India and the other was about another Nigerian who was killed extrajudicially in Johannesburg, South Africa.

A video emerged of the Nigerian who was caught while attempting to rob an apartment in India, in the video the Nigerian was seen tied to a light pole and gruesomely beaten with sticks until he became unconscious and at the point of death. As usual, one would expect every right and sane citizen of Nigeria to condemn the act as his captors could have simply handed him over to the police. Rather than condemn the act, a microscopic few decided to take it upon themselves and used the opportunity to engage in a tribal war and call each other names like Igbos, afonjas and so on leaving the real issue unaddressed. Same thing happened in the case of the other Nigerian killed in South Africa, instead of condemning the SA police, some members of this forum were busy trying to pin the victim to a particular tribe of this country and projecting them in bad light. To add pepper to injury, the youths who are supposedly the leaders of tomorrow are the ones championing the course. Such a pity cry

Situations like this leaves one to wonder why our leaders don't take us serious in this country, when all we do is fight ourselves and call each other names instead of holding our leaders accountable for their gross incompetencies and inactions. This behavior of ours will not take us anywhere, I think it is high time we all look past our religious beliefs and ethnic differences and come to live together as one Nigerians, I also think it is high time Seun and the other moderators of this forum had done something about this issue bedevilling us that if left unattended could hamper the unity of this great country.

We all should remember that there can be no development where there is little or no peace and there can be no peace where there's a high level of intolerance for one another. Nigeria is ours to build.

God bless Nairaland,
God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

PS: I'm not much of a writer so pardon my errors.

I like your thinking faculty. Just like mine.

Take my case for example.

All my male cousins had gone to Dubai. And we are all Graduates oo. And we even have up to 2-3 hand work each Take me for example. Im a certified Mobile and computer Engineer both hard and software. And also an Integrated plumber both domestic and industrial, also a graduate of Economic

Same as all my cousin. We all had same hand work.

To be sincere with u. I have not for a once envy their life over there. They have been asking me to come.

So i started thinking. Leaving my business where im my own boss. Leaving all my professions and become a security guard in another mans land doesnt seems like an upgrade to me. Though im not very bouyant here. But i know future is bright.

Most people out there are not that making it Most of them engage in illegal activities. Dont ever be carried away with those sweet pictures and selfies they take in fine places. Dont be decieved

And if u have a Benin friend. It wont help matter. Those people dont believe they are human unless they travel out of naija.

Please watch and listen to this in close door.

private school ppas use corpers anyhow, my fellow corpers in private schools are complaining bitterly, also the pay is from 5k and above and not 7k, and the accommodation given is mostly inside the school compound or free classrooms, My best advice is to swiftly work your ppa to a government school or local government area so you'll have adequate time for yourself and you can easily ghost without even bribing anyone cos no one cares if you come to work or you don't, but if you like stress and you want to settle for peanut salary you can accept private school ppa

@Bolded 1
I can't say for now if Private PPAs use Corp members anyhow or not as you've said because I'm yet to resume mine, I was posted to a Private secondary school within Port Harcourt city in Obio/Akpor LGA.

@Bolded 2
The principal of my PPA agreed to be paying all corpers posted to the school 10k monthly, so I can say for now that my PPA pays more than 7k.

@Bolded 3
That is not true, I was given a self contained accommodation which is not within the school compound neither is it very close to the school. My accommodation is a 15mins walk from the school, though it is two to a room but I think that is fair enough.

So people brace up. The journey isn't as tough as people make it seem, cheers!

Feel free to mention me if you have any questions regarding The NYSC Orientation Camp in Nonwa Gbam, Tai LGA of Rivers state. I rep ObioAkpor, PH metropolis.

Rivers Camp has been making enough sense all this while save for the SAED lectures which are usually boring all the time.

SAED lectures seems more like a nightmare tormenting every Corp members here tongue, thank God it finally ended today.

I'll advise those of you who are in stream II to come to camp with at least 25k, whether or not you'll eat from the camp kitchen. I for one, I've spent close to 30k despite the fact that I take food from the camp kitchen everyday, but you know man has got to visit Mammy na wink

And also, please make at least 3 copies only of each documents. Na sango go kill those guys wey advise me to make 15 copies each, I've not used up to 2 since I arrived camp.

On another note, don't forget guys, I'm coming to share my experience so far in Nonwa - Gbam Tai, Rivers state. Watch out!

Peace!

Hello everyone!

I guess you're all having a swell time at your various Orientation camps? But it seems the compulsory early morning and evening drills have made most of us deserted this thread grin..

The soldiers in Nonwa Gbam-Tai Orientation camp here in Rivers state are so annoying. Today just when I was about buying a Venza in my dream, they came and chased all of us out of the room thereby disrupting my sweet dreamembarassed.

By the way, the SAED programme started here today. I can categorically tell you all that it is one of the most boring lectures I have ever attended in my entire life, you all need to see the way yours faithfully was battling with sleep today in the hall cry. I haven't had enough sleep for the past a week now since I arrived in this camp embarassed, all thanks to these merciless soldiers. This information is for those of you that have been posted to my state, Edo state for your service year, it is not to scare you but just to inform you beforehand of what you should be expecting...

Please do well to come along with your mosquito nets as the NYSC orientation camp in Okada is not a nice place to behold ooo, else those mosquitoes there are gonna use you guys for suya undecided. Trust me, their dilapidated Halls of residence is nothing to write home about. I wonder if the NYSC state coordinator is doing anything to see that the standard of living there is enhanced.

The NYSC Orientation Camp there is more or less of a dungeongrin, it is no better off than Kirikiri Maximum Prison, the only difference is that you're allowed to move about. They're currently using Okada secondary school there as their temporary site for the time being.

Take this piece of advice from me as someone who's been there and have seen it all. Okada is my Village and I have firsthand info about the NYSC orientation camp there.

Cheers!

GoldGerry:
Good afternoon everyone and welcome back to my blog and if this is your first time, thank you so much for visiting. Today's post is focused on NYSC camp essentials (the important things to take with you) for the compulsory three weeks set aside in kicking the service year. For my international readers or those who are not aware; NYSC means (National Youth Service Corps) and if you missed my post on 'My Obubra camp experience ' its okay here is a link to that.
I remember when I got listed online as a prospective corp member, I immediately and almost always was surfing the internet on what to take to camp, what to wear, feeding, camp distance and expenses. I was trying to have an idea of camp life would be like before I get into it,so am presuming that's why your here. Well your at the right place, cause I'll be breaking down important things you should take to camp.

WEARS
1) White shorts (better take enough)
2) White round neck shirts (take excess sef)
3) White Sneakers (I didn't bother wearing the one I got from home cause Obubra made one's white look a joke in no minute)
4) White socks (take enough) especially with green
5) Take casuals for Church service (just in case its allowed on that day)
6) Waist pouch (very essential)
* There will be a carnival and probably burn fire night (depending on your location) so also take casuals for this)

DOCUMENTS
1) Call-up letter (do not laminate)
2) School Statement of Result or Certificate
3) School ID Card/Driver's License or Voters card
4) Green card (coloured and photocopies)
5) Jamb admission letter
6) Passports (15)
7) Medical

STATIONRIES (Please take your own o)
1) Pen
2) Tipex
3) A clear file
4) ID Card pack, rope or holder (unless you want to buy from camp)

MAINTENANCE
1) Bucket (you could get from camp too)
2) Disinfectant (very important)
3) Mosquito net (else the camp is fumigated but you'll never know)
4) Rubber Shoes (available in camp too, depending on the location)
5) Needle and thread
6) Hypo
7) Sanitary pad (ladies)
cool Disposable panties if necessary

TIPS
1) PLEASE ladies and gentlemen go EARLY! The que is not even a joke and cannot be over exaggerated
2) Participate in your platoon activities and competitions (rumour has it that the people that do so end up in good PPA). Most especially, sports and matching (the one's that hold the flags and all).
3) The level of fun you have in camp depends on who's heading your location. It depends mostly on your camp commandant, so pray you don't have the psycho that was at mine.
4) Camp tailors are so wack.
5) Take Panadol and Pain relief drugs
6) Mami market is the only fun place
7) Ladies don't worry there's always a guy hitting on you,so you wouldn't spend so much of your money.
cool If your like me,take cereal and garri o. Hunger is real, especially when your trying to save a little.
The best tip of all is to have enough MONEY cause trust me there's always something coming up.

Visit my blog for updates. Goodluck on your service year.
Really?? shocked

And I did not make copies of it o
