Fashion / [business Idea] How To Start A Sportswear Business by barbieQ(f): 2:54pm On Sep 12, 2016
If you’re thinking of a trendy, lucrative business to start, you might want to consider selling sports apparel to the fitfam community. The sports apparel business is an untapped niche market in the Nigerian clothing industry. The market is ripe for the taking, thanks to the #fitfam trend which sees more individuals and working professionals signing up for gym memberships, marathons, charity walks and let’s not forget Zuckerbergs Lekki-Ikoyi bridge rendezvous. The business appeals to all ages and creeds, isn’t saturated, and the starting capital isn’t prohibitive.
An October 2015 Morgan Stanley report predicted an estimated $83 billion rise in sales within the active wear market by 2020. There isn’t a better time than now to get a slice of the pie.
If this all sounding appealing to you, please read on. I’m about to delve into the mechanics of how the business works, and what things you need to consider before launching.
Where do I find customers for gym/sportswear?
1. Instagram
While you’re still building a customer base, it is a good idea to put your goods in front of your customers, while spending as little as possible to do so. Instagram the photo-sharing app, helps you do this while being cheap, quick, and easy to use. Your aim is to draw users in, get them engaged with your captivating photographs, and entice them into ultimately making a purchase. You will then need to follow this up with engaging photographs, interactions with your followers, competitions and cross posting on other blogs.
2. Local ecommerce stores
Various online stores offer independent vendors a chance to feature on their websites. These include Konga, Jumia, GTbanks’s SME Markethub.
3. Local classifieds websites. You can list your items on classified websites such as Kaymu, Efritin, Olx, etc.
4. Facebook. Create a business page, upload photos and item descriptions, engage with people who ask questions, tag fitness gurus on your friends list (don’t be annoying though) and get to selling.
5. Nairaland: I was looking through this platform a while ago and noticed that vendors actually sell on it. You will need to be careful about ow you go about it though, in order not to break the rules.
6. Pop-up store: You can organize a pop-up at shopping festivals, marathon events or plan one yourself.
Where to get stock

Family / [free Business Idea] How To Start A Wedding Planning Business by barbieQ(f): 7:28pm On Aug 21, 2016
Do you enjoy a well executed wedding? Do you dream of being behind the scenes, helping to visualize, and successfully bring abstract plans to fruition? If you want to make a career of something you already love, read on and I’ll show you how you can make a living by planning weddings.
Weddings are a billion dollar industry and one of the fastest growing in Nigeria right now. A quick look at Bellanaija weddings would show you how extravagantly themed some weddings can be, as well as the amount of production and coordination that goes into these colorful and creative events.
We stated earlier in this article, the estimated costs of planning a medium scale wedding. Between the excitement, budgeting, and demands of planning weddings, this can cause major stress on the would-be bride, and that’s where you come in the “professional hands-on wedding planner”.
To venture into this industry you will need a smorgasbord of skills:- professionalism, creative visionary, style/trend, courteous, organization, accounting, negotiation, quality, reliability, communication, empathy and interpersonal relationships.
Getting started
Step 1 – Take training courses on event planning with a specialization on weddings, at this stage you can freelance for friends, family and acquaintances. Reed is doing an offer on an online-based wedding planning course and is issuing a diploma for only £14.
Step 2 – Start an internship or work for a professional wedding event company, this is necessary to garner experience in the field, help determine your niche and it is also a great avenue for contacts.
Step 3 – Branch out on your own; write your business plan/strategy, register your business with the appropriate agencies, get your business account, office space and vendors.
Step 4 – Create an attractive workable portfolio; you can have a mini photo shoot with your trusted vendors, get friends to play the couple and guests, this can be given to clients to showcase your expertise and also included in your website/brochure.

Family / Planning A Wedding In Lagos : Estimated Costs by barbieQ(f): 11:00pm On Aug 08, 2016
A wedding is [s]a joyous occasion which brings families together [/s]one of the most expensive parties you will ever throw.
Planning a wedding in Nigeria is no small feat, whether it’s a big or small celebration. Whether you are co-ordinating a wedding, assisting someone with wedding planning, or getting married yourself –  this article is tailored specifically for you. In large cities like Lagos, you have to consider the traffic, venue proximity, accommodation for out-of-town guests, reliable vendors, etc. There will be high and low moments throughout the planning process, so you have to go above and beyond to ensure that your plans are adequately taken care of. I’ve actually seen a bride cry over non-delivery of wedding programs!
Wedding plans can be quite hectic on the couple, hence it does make sense to enlist the services of an event planner or available family members. In the case of an event planner, this could be quite expensive as some of them demand 10% of your total budget or a flat fee of N100, 000 – N200, 000. Fine, if you can afford it –  but this large sum can go towards your honeymoon, while you stick to the basics and do the hard work yourself.
For a first time planner, ensure that you follow through on these necessary steps I’ve listed below:

Food / [free Business Idea] How To Start A Food Delivery Business by barbieQ(f): 10:45pm On Aug 08, 2016
Technology is changing the way we buy food in Nigeria. Since the introduction of eCommerce web and mobile solutions, convenience has become the order of the day. Apart from the one or two amala joint addicts we all know, the working class seems to be slowly swapping visiting local bukas at lunchtime for ordering food online and munching at the desk.
If you’re a budding entrepreneur looking for what business to start, (somebody shout hallelujah)  this might be your own meal ticket too! Right now, the big boys in the business are JumiaFood, NaijaEats, CityChops, but who says you can’t succeed in this area?
A food delivery service basically transports food from a restaurant to a predefined consumer location for a fee. One lady around the car park of a certain large bank on the Island sells out of moi moi by 8.30am every morning. No matter how many wraps she prepares, she sells out. I’ve done the maths and pegged her capacity at 300 pcs. (I don’t think the 2011 Toyota Corolla will fit much more in). Multiply this by N200 per wrap, and we have N60,000 EVERY MORNING. How much do bankers get paid again?

3 ways you can offer a food service
Self catering: This involves only your restaurant and menu, i.e. lunch time deliveries, seminar and corporate parties order.

Liaison with a restaurant: You operate your delivery services exclusively with a particular restaurant.
Independent: You are in partnership (MOU) with different restaurants and provide food delivery services independent of their operations.
The third option is our main focus for this article, an independent food delivery business, much like a middleman, bridging the gap between the consumer and the restaurants.
