The nation has been trending about #TwitterBan; #Buhari and many takes. If you are not using VPN you’d probably miss the cruise and fun. But let’s reflect a little.
Buhari high handedness in reply to the deleted tweet about him dealing with those causing trouble by Twitter didn’t go down well. Seun kuti made a point in his IG live yesterday that mentioned how both Jack and Buhari were wrong.
First; Jack deleted a post. Freedom of expression trampled on especially on one warning those killing and destroying things. To make it worse Nnamdi kanu threat wasn’t deleted till recently which made it seem like there was ulterior motive. The video and statement by PMB was twisted to mean he was threatening the whole nation, Depends on which side of the coin you are.

Buhari replied by suspending the microblogging app; another wrong even if the message is to drive home a point. To be frank didn’t even realize the ban could happen. That’s a move the whole nation and even abroad didn’t take lightly.

Both imperialist move. The only negative as Nigerians is there was no Nigerian alternative like Nairaland to seize that moment to grow which would have been perfect. A challenge that I think Seun can rise up to to create our own app similar to Twitter.




A lesson learnt is we have actually built our lives round a social media app; not necessarily bad but many who didn’t have voice actually did and many businesses but also there were negatives; the toxicity. Probably a time to reflect on if we are who we are without social media.
