PoliticsRe: Dino Melaye’s Name Missing From ABU Alumni Website-Punch by Barrywilly(m): 8:16am On Mar 26, 2017
adioolayi:
The certificate scandal involving the senator representing Kogi West Senatorial District , Dino Melaye, may be far from over , as his name was not found on the Ahmadu Bello University alumni website, SUNDAY PUNCH reports .

Melaye’ s trouble began on Monday , March 20 , when an online news medium , SaharaReporters, reported that the senator did not graduate from ABU for his first degree .

The senator had claimed that he obtained B . A in Geography from the institution .
Melaye had boasted that he was currently a student in ABU pursuing his seventh degree , adding , “ Go round all the UNIS (universities ) I attended in digging more . ”
A day after the news broke, Melaye , while speaking on the floor of the Senate , also addressed himself as an “authentic graduate” of ABU .

On Saturday, an exhaustive online search conducted by our correspondents – from the 1998 / 1999 alumni set to 2007 – for Melaye’ s name on the website of ABU Alumni Association did not give any result that shows that the embattled lawmaker is a graduate of the school .

His name, Daniel Jonah Melaye, as it appeared on a statement of result by the university , when searched , returned with zero result .

When SUNDAY PUNCH searched for ‘ Daniel, ’ ‘ Jonah ’ and ‘ Melaye ’ separately , different names came up .
A search for ‘ Melaye’ brought up only one result : Melaye Sunday Ola (Biology Education ), who graduated in 1980 .

Another search for ‘ Jonah ’ came up with four different names: Bawa Jonah Seth Besanhi (BSc Geography ; graduated in 1973 ); Birga Jonah (BSc Geography ; graduated in 2007 ); Kaigama Jonah Ishaku (BSc Geography ; graduated in 2011 ); and Ndasala Jonah (BSc Geography ; graduate in 1987 ) .

There were 10 results when ‘ Daniel’ was searched : Abin Daniel John (BSc Geography ; graduated in 1978 ); Adamu Kantsan Daniel (Institute Of Education Geography ; graduated in 1992 ); Aniro Daniel Rabo (BSc Geography ; no graduation date indicated ); Atenji Daniel E . (BSc Geography ; graduated in 1986 ); Beshiru Daniel (BSc Geography ; graduated in 1980 ); Dada Daniel Adefila (BSc Geography ; graduated in 1979 ); Awubra Daniel Akinkwe (Geography ; graduated in 2002 / 2003 ); Daniel Bosede Biddy (BSc Geography graduated in 1983 ); Daniel Dogara Garba (BSc Geography ; graduated in 2010 ); and Daniel Ezra Jatau (BSc Geography ; graduated in 2011 ).

When our correspondent called the ABU Public Relations Officer , Mr . Adamu Mohammed , about 8 pm on Saturday to find out why the senator’ s name was not on the alumni website, his line rang out . On the second trial , the line was switched off .

A text message also sent to his mobile line on the matter had yet to be replied to as of press time .
When SUNDAY PUNCH contacted the President , ABU Alumni Association, Prof . Ahmed Tijanni - Mora , he said only the university could confirm if Melaye graduated from the institution .
He said , “ The registrars of universities are in the best position to provide information about who attended their universities or not . ”

Last week , ABU ’ s spokesman, Mohammed , when contacted by The PUNCH promised that the institution would come out with its position on Wednesday , which it failed to do as of the time of filing this report .
Saturday PUNCH ’ s March 25 edition had obtained a document which revealed that the senator got a statement of result with the logo of ABU .

The statement of result read , “This is to certify that Daniel Jonah Melaye having completed an approved course of study and passed the prescribed examinations as , under the authority of the Senate been awarded the Bachelor of Arts (Geography ) with Third Class honours . ”
The statement , issued by the Office of the Registrar , Academic Office , was dated February 3 , 2000 , and signed by B . B . Mshelthlila .

It was , however , observed that while the statement of result had the name “ Daniel Jonah MELAYE ”, the senator’ s National Youth Service Corps discharge certificate , which was issued on July 8 , 2001 , read “ Melaye Daniel ;” his diploma certificate issued by the University of Jos on August 3 , 2006 read “Daniel Dino Melaye ”, and his Senior School Certificate in 1992 read ‘ Melaiye Daniel Jonah O ’ with Melaye being wrongly spelt .

Similarly , the University of Abuja, which Melaye claimed he had also attended , refused to comment on whether the senator obtained a master ’ s degree from the institution .

The Vice Chancellor of UNIABUJA , Prof . Michael Adikwu , responding to an inquiry by one of our correspondents on Saturday , said , “ Issues of certificates should be directed to the registry . I heard that (allegation against Dino Melaye) also , but I will find out later . ”

CrimeRe: 65 Year Old Man, Others Ripped Man’s Heart, Wrists For Money Ritual by Barrywilly(m): 7:58am On Mar 25, 2017
Dauraking:
By OLA AJAYI

Four suspected ritualists have been arrested by the anti-kidnapping squad of the Oyo State Police command for allegedly killing a man and dismember his body for the purpose of money rituals.

The suspects, according to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abiodun Odude, lured their victim, Akintoye Stephen Oyeyemi aged 33 into a forest under the pretext of doing business, gunned him down and dispossessed him of his bag containing N100,000.

After killing the victim, the suspects, Tunde Jimoh and Gbenga Babalade, on discovery that he had only N100,000 instead of N10m he promised to come with, decided to cut his body and remove his heart, private part, his two wrists and legs and took it to an herbalist who had earlier told them to bring the body parts.

While parading the suspects at the Oyo State Police headquarters, the CP Odude said the “duo of Jimoh and Gbenga Babalade lured their victim, robbed him of the sum of N100,000 and gruesomely murdered him in clod blood.”.

“Having killed the victim, the suspects removed his body parts including the heart, head and wrists for ritual purpose. When the wife did not see her husband, she became apprehensive and raised alarm. She then reported the case at Atiba Police Station.”

“A diligent investigation conducted by the special squad led to the arrest of one Abubakar Agbool in his criminal hideout at Ipe, Village, Kwara State. His arrest further led to the arrest of three other suspects in their various criminal hideouts in Offa, Kwara State and Ile-Ife, Osun State.”

Odude continued, “during interrogation, two of the suspects, Tunde Jimoh and Gbenga Babalade who actually murdered the victim dislosed that they killed him because they believed he had in his possession the sum of N10m for the business as he was overhead saying during his conversation with one Olayinka Babalade another business partner two days earlier. They also revealed that after killing him, they decided to remove the vital organs for money rituals.

They poured alcohol on the severed parts of his body to preserve it”.

How we killed him-suspects
One of the suspects, Tunde Jimoh gave a vivid picture of how he killed the victim said, “I am business man who deal in cashew nuts. My brother’s friend came to him and said he would pay the sum of N10m for a business transaction. He promised to bring N10m.

When he was saying this, my friend was with me, he then sold an idea to me that we should kidnap him and rob him of the money. The victim called us that he was coming to Ajase, it was there we kidnapped him. After moving deep into Igbo Nla(forest), I parked the bike that we used.”.

“I then pointed the gun at him. He was afraid and surprised. He then said is it because of the money I have on me you want to kill me. He then dropped his bag and started running away. I shot and killed him. We then took his bag and found only N100,000 and some clothes.

We felt guilty when we discovered this. But, we had no option. I then told my friend that let us take his body parts to that Alfa as earlier discussed. But, when we got to Alfa he was angry with us saying he had told us he didn’t have interest in helping us again. But, when we begged him, he told us to throw the head away and used alcohol to peserve the wrists, heart, legs. That was when the police arrested us”

Another suspect, Babalade also said exactly the same thing his partner-in-crime said. He narrated that they killed the victim at Igbo Nla at Offa, Kwara State.

But, Mr. Abubakar Agboola, a 65 year old man, who one of the suspects said directed him to Alfa for money rituals denied it saying he never gave sucha advice to him to go and kill a human being to get riches.
The third suspect, Olatunji Ahmed, the Alfa who doubles as the herbalist also gave account of how they came to him initially but refused to cooperate with them when they brought human body parts.

How we got the gun
Speaking with Saturday Vanguard how he got the gun, he said, “we saw a Fulani herdsman herding his cattle. We were chatting with him and we negotiated to buy the gun he was carrying. He then agreed to sell it to us for N13,000 but removed the bullets in it.

After then, he advised us to buy the bullets saying what is the use of a gun without bullets. I told him he should give us the bullets asking why we should buy gun and bullets separately. It was then he volunteered to give us the bullets.”

The items found with them, according to the police, include one cut-to-size barrel gun, one long single barrel gun, two live cartridges, two expended live cartridges, an axe, three knives, deceased car key, hand bag, sandal and belt, one unregistered motorcycle, one empty bottle of Aromatic Schnapps- the content of which was used to preserve the severed body parts, N40,000 and criminal charms.
Other items include severed heart of the deceased, two severed wrists and headless body of the victm.

Excellent analysis. This has really helped me in no small measure to have a great idea about my building project although mine is a four bedroom flat with 2 sitting rooms and the soil partly little swampy
saydfact:
Based on the many questions asked the last time out (see: https://www.nairaland.com/3502464/how-build-comfortable-house-earning ) we would go more into details, best working practice, cost implications and questions & answer using the attached plan as our case studies.... i.e we would arrive at an approximate cost of building the house attached.

(We would not be considering government determined processes e.g approval - it is practically impossible to get that info here - visit your local authorities for help)

No1: Preliminaries:
Under Preliminaries we refer to those activities that should be done, considered or made ready before the actual construction process begins. Most times we ignore this process forgetting how important it is. On a couple of occasion, I've visited people's site to help with foundation works only to discover there is a big tree or root where the building is located..

Other times, there is no access to drop materials or there is no provision for water (both for work and for workers to have their bath)

Now what are the important preliminaries we would be considering?

* Clear the bushes, cut the trees & uproot, except trees fall about 3m from building location.
* Buy a small tank for water storage or rent one for the time being (we would safe cash on this later).
* Ensure the tipper delivering materials can get to your site i.e all materials are dropped on your site.
* Ensure you negotiate with the Omo-onile on how much you're expected to pay before the day of foundation - but preferably, don't give them the money until the day of actual foundation works. Most times there is a fraction, and the fraction that didnt get the money would still disturb you. Giving while work is ongoing is perfect because both fraction would have representatives present.

COST IMPLICATION:
* Clearing and uprooting of trees (N5,000-7N,000 would clear your site while N10,000 would clear and uproot all trees)
* Water (find out how much a small tank goes for but it cost about N3,000 to rent & fill a tank of water)
* Workmen usually charge you extra if the material is not dropped on your site, because they also have to pay workers to move the material to the site. This sometimes is a lot we're talking about.
* Omo-onile could charge as much as N50k to 100k depending on your location.

>> Labour Cost: 10k

SUMMARY: The cost in this section are dependent on so many factors; its almost impossible to put a figure to it; my advice would be to safe about N100k for this section; most of that being fees paid to Omo-onile.

No2: Works Below Ground

Works in this sections include (but not limited to)
a. Setting Out
b. Digging
c. Foundation
d. Block-works to foundation
e. Filling
f. German floor

A. Setting Out: The bricklayers claim we waste money by using profiles (setting out using wood and ropes) but they often create problems with their method of setting out using blocks. Since this thread is not about anybody but professional practices, we'll consider setting out with profiles.

Materials Needed: (Based on the attached design)
1x12 plank = 4pcs, each sliced into 4 each.
Pegs = 32 pcs approx 3 dozen
Nails = 2" and 3" - buy about N1000 worth
Ropes = 4 bundles each at about N200

Workmen Needed:
One carpenter or anyone that can handle the hammer = Daily pay
One experienced Supervisor = If its an experienced bricklayer Zero Naira except he's not also doing the actual work, if you're getting a supervisor for this price would be around N10k.
The diggers or at least one of them = Cost wld be analyzed below.

COST IMPLICATION:
* Planks: 4 x 1200 = 4800
Cost of Slicing per line = N70 x 3lines = N210 x 4planks = N840
* Pegs: 3 dozens x 1200 = 3600
* Nails = N1000
* Ropes = N1000

>> Labour Cost - 12.5K

With a total of about N11,500 (material cost) - paying this amount to ensure your house is properly set out isn't bad investment - if your bricklayer is experienced thats good, you can however get someone to set it out for you for additional N5-N10K depending on your relationship with him or her. (Personally I do this most time for free if I designed the structure to ensure some in-experienced guys don't spoil/change my hard worked design)

B. Digging: The books recommend about 900mm depth for foundation but practically, its almost impossible to achieve this on very solid soil we're considering. If you can get your workers to achieve 450mm - 600mm depth great and a width of 675mm

If your plan like mine is to do a German floor, there is no need to dig out some wall partition - but if you have a plan to continue without German floor, then all wall partition should be dug (although I don't advice my clients to use the second method; I must be realistic that it comes with an initial cost most are not willing to spend)

ADVICE: I still recommend using experienced guys, people who are used to digging foundation (don't get the Hausa guy that cleared your site to dig because he did a good clearing work, or the Ibo / Yoruba guy because he claims he's done it before). The advantages are those doing this work are:
- Quicker
- They dig straight and ensure a level surface (makes it easy for the bricklayer)
- Saves time and material
- They charge appropriately.

The attached structure would cost you about 30K to dig; with six (6) quality hands digging, you should have it completed in a day or early hours of day 2; still in time for the foundation (concrete pouring) works.

COST IMPLICATION:
* Digging = N30,000 - N35,000
* Water for workmen = N1,000 (about 5 bags of pure water).

>> Labour cost - N35k

Note: We would give individual cost, but after each section add up to help your bargaining power - it means if all works sum up to say 30 naira, you can give all works out to the bricklayer at 25 naira - you're only asking for discount for giving him so much at once. #wink

C. Foundation: This is the first of many important works and where most people unnecessary save material and money; infact most bricklayers would even help you save here NOT BECAUSE THEY CARE but because it means less work for them at the same price of the actual work.

Normally the standard foundation thickness should be at about 150 - 175mm for bungalows (remember we're building on solid soil) yet you find some people using as little as 50mm - 75mm ie 2" - 3" - You end up using about 15 bags of cement, then claim the professional wanted to cheat you by recommending 35 bags - NO; the professionals' calculation was based on a standard 150mm thick foundation, what you did was 50mm or 75mm. Lets hope your house can withstand the weight to come.

MY ADVICE: Ensure your bricklayer starts from one corner and transfer levels across to the others - to ensure a level plain for the block works, if the foundation was dug well leveled, this should be a easy process. Every good bricklayer knows the importance of having a level plain; cheap labour is most times bad for the job. avoid picking your workmen based on cost only, especially if you're doing it yourself.

Materials Needed:
Volume of Concrete = 101.55m x 0.675m x 0.10m = 6.85m3 (based on attached design)
Cement (approx) = 27 - 30 bags
Sand: 20 tonnes (this should serve for all works minus German floor)
Granite: 30 tonnes (recommended) or 15 tonnes (being the minimum you should purchase)

* If you cant afford Granite, then buy Double tipper of gravel, however ask your supplier to ensure it doesn't have too much of sand, you could add the phrase "I'll reject it if sand is too much" - makes the supplier more alert to ensuring you get the best possible. Don't expect a miracle, gravel are mined with sand.

COST IMPLICATION:
Material Cost:
Granite (15 tonnes) = 60k - 65k
Granite (30 tonnes) = about 110k - 125k
Gravel (Double tipper) = 35k to Ikorodu;
Sharp sand (Double tipper) = 30k in Ikorodu; 55k to Mowe/Ibafo
Cement = N2,350 / bag (including transportation)

>> Labour cost - 25k

Note: Depending on your negotiation with your bricklayer, you might have to pay for renting of tools eg shovels, wheelbarrow etc, however, this shouldn't cost too much its about N100-N200 per day for most tools.

D. Block-works to Foundation: My recommendation here is even when you intend to build with 150mm (6"wink blocks, ensure you use quality 225mm (9"wink blocks for the foundation. We can't guarantee the strongest 6" is what you've brought so; spend a little more and safe your building. (I am aware that Ghanaian however build with 6" - solid block even in storey building)

Materials Needed:
9" Block @ 4 courses = 910 pcs (including waste). 9" cost btw N150 - N180 while 6" cost about N160 each, depending on quality and location.
Cement = 15 bags should do the job (Most times, there is a few left over from the foundation - so you'll only buy the balance) - Don't forget all calculation considers waste, so the less you waste, they more you save.

Sand? No, we've got enough

>> Labour cost - 50k

Since I recommended in my previous article that we negotiate all works above at once, lets see how much labour cost we have:
Setting out = 10k
Digging = 35k
Foundation = 25k
Block setting = 50k (see previous post if you need a hint on how we arrived at 50k)

Total: 122.5k we didn't add the 10k for site clearing (Now, how well can you negotiate?) - Put that to good use.

E. Filling: I actually don't advice anyone buys filling solely for this purpose, you would dig your septic tank / soak away one day, where would you put the filling? Probably pay to get it out of your site or sell at very cheap price. SO! DIG YOUR SEPTIC TANK and use the discarded filling for this purpose.

If you don't get enough filling to level your site, you'll only need to buy a few more trucks. see No3 below for detail of material and cost implication on septic tank.

Note: If you're using this option, then ensure you have enough cash to complete the septic tank/soak away 90% - 10% being the slab cover.

F. German floor: I recommend you do this, but I most also note that it comes with some cost implication. We'll analyze the cost below, then you can weigh your pocket.

Total Floor Area: 113.63m2
Volume of Concrete: 11.34m3

We'll try and generate a rate per m3 in-case you have a different design and volume.....hmmm, that rate would be N2500. (pls note that this rate does not work for decking and doesn't work if you're using machine)

Keep 5K at hand, the omo oniles' no dey take eye see concrete...

COST IMPLICATION:
Materials Needed:
Cement: 35 - 40 bags (4" thick)
Sand: 20 tonnes
Granite: 15 tonnes (but if you brought 30 tonnes initially, you're covered)

>> Labour Cost: 30K

No3: Septic Tank & Soak Away

Lets pick a size; but depending on your site that site might vary. In the previous article, my cousin had very little setback (remember I told you the site is less than half plots (18x18) - so, we picked a narrow width and a very long length to compensate.

Let's use Septic-Tank size of 2.4m width 3.0m length x 3.0m depth and Soak-Away 1.8m x 1.8m x 1.8m

COST IMPLICATION:
Materials Needed:
Septic Tank = 280 (9" blocks) & Soak away = 110 (6" blocks)
Cement = 8 bags (including concrete footing for septic tank and plastering of the inside)
Note: only septic tank has a concrete base, as the name implies soak-away is left natural so the water can be soaked into the underworld. #wink

>> Labour Cost:
* Bricklayer = 33.5k (all inclusive plus plastering) Normally I'll pay less, the bricklayer has justed finished foundation works and he's assured of the super-structure, this is where I tell him, look - you have a lot to do together, I can only pay 25k for all works....
* Digging only = 20k-25k

GENERAL SUMMARY: (Using the highest options i.e If cost above says 30k-50k; we'll be using 50k for this section)

TOTAL MATERIAL COST: N721,590
TOTAL LABOUR COST: N331,000

I EXPECT YOU WOULD SPEND LESS, BECAUSE WE USED THE WORST CASE SCENARIO.

Attached:

WHILE Nigerians are still celebrating the demise of dreaded kidnap kingpin and notorious armed robbery chief, Henry Chibueze popularly called Vampire, little is known about the circumstances that led to his end. Vampire, who had terrorized Imo State and other parts of the country for long periods, was earlier rescued by some gunmen who stormed Owerri High Court, Imo State, shooting indiscriminately. The commando-like operation took security men at the court including prison officials who accompanied him to the day’s hearing of his case, by surprise.

At the end of the barely 15 minute operation, two persons were shot dead while scores of others including security men, received gunshot wounds. The high profile criminal who had kidnapped and killed 200 persons across the country, responded quickly to the invasion by his men who handed an AK47 assault rifle to him and he displayed what he knew how to do best after which he disappeared with his deadly gang into thin air. After the operation, a red alert was raised in all police formations in the country and beyond. This was as a result of Vampire’s known bloody operations in the past, especially in February 2013 when the dreaded kidnapper stormed two homes in Igando area of Lagos State and killed nine persons, including his girlfriend, her pregnant sisters and their children, in cold-blood.

Energeticcrime buster

The energetic crime buster who now heads Inspector-General of Police Intelligence Response Team, IRS, Abba Kyari, was the officer-in-charge of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, Ikeja at the time. He was one of the first men to race to the scene after the police received a distress call on the incident. The sight of lifeless bodies of the children, their pregnant mothers drenched in own blood, traumatized him and he may have vowed to track down the person that spilled the blood of innocent children and their pregnant mothers in such a manner.

Luckily, few months after, some members of Vampire’s gang who masterminded the kidnap of a British national, Dickson Lee, at Mafoluku axis of the Airport Road, Ikeja, Lagos were arrested. They volunteered information indicating that Vampire was then residing with his family in Ivory Coast but that he usually sneaked into the country, to carry out some kidnapping and then sneaked out again.

With the arrest and killing of several members of his gang, the police in Lagos concluded that Vampire has been degraded and frustrated, but unknown to them, Vampire was still active, unleashing terror in Imo and other South East States.At that time, he was said to have kidnapped and killed several persons, including wife of a traditional ruler, member of Imo State House of Assembly, three of his uncles at his home town in Agba area of Imo State, businessmen and several others. But in July 2015, he ran out of luck as men of the Department of State Service, DSS, apprehended him while he attempted to kidnap some Judges attached to the Imo State Electoral Tribunal. He was remanded at the Owerri Central Prison, from where he also coordinated several kidnappings and gave out his numerous rifles for hire to criminals. Sources at the prison disclosed that Vampire lived like a king in the prison. He reportedly had free access to his mobile phones and enjoyed regular visits from various persons including his gang members who brought food and money to him.

In November 2015, he successfully recruited an official of the Nigeria Prison Service, NPS, Chukwuma Agim, into his gang and made him set up a kidnap gang that would enable them raise money for their cases. Agim and four others were later arrested by operatives of the IRT in Owerri and remanded in prison custody. He claimed that they kidnapped a woman and that she paid N5 million before her release.

According to Agim, N1.5 million was given to a Vampire who was their overall boss and owner of the rifles that were used for the operation.Five days after Vampire’s rescue inside Owerri High court, the visibly traumatized Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, reportedly summoned members of Abba Kyari’s team with marching orders to fish him out within 48 hours or face disciplinary action. The fact that Vampire confessed to having killed 200 people in various operations across the country rattled the police hierarchy even more. A roll call of his victims still remains a shocker to security agents in the country in spite of his death. He claimed responsibility for the murder of the following persons:

Placid Ejimadu (Nze Ji Obi), Jonathan Ibemere, aka Gwogwuo and Livinus Iwumune all natives of Agbaja, Nwangele Local Government in Imo. He also killed a member of the Imo State House of Assembly at Orji in 2015, and murdered the wife of the traditional ruler of Mbaise in 2015. The woman’s corpse had not been seen till date. Others were the kidnap and murder of a man from Malaysia at First Bank, World Bank area, Owerri, and killing of three members of a family, including a woman from Nkwere in 2012 after collecting ransom from the family.

How the Malaysian returnee met his death On January, 26, 2015, a Malaysian based businessman, Sopuruchukwu Igweanyiba, was kidnapped by Vampire when he accosted him in a car wash located around World Bank area of Owerri, Imo State.

A brother to the businessman told Crime Alert that Vampire sighted his brother’s Range Rover SUV at the popular car wash and demanded to see the owner. “The people operating the car wash didn’t know who he was and they ignorantly called my brother and told him someone was looking for him. He ordered my brother into his own vehicle with a gun and took him away.

That was on a Sunday and he didn’t contact us for ransom until Wednesday when he demanded for N100 million.“We begged him that we don’t have such an amount and he reduced it to N50 million. We begged again and he reduced it to N30 million and later, stopped at N20 million. We told him that all we could raise was N5 million and he refused.

After several pleadings, he told us that if we fail to pay the money, it will be the last time we will hear from him. My brother was the only person in his camp, but he took my brother to Ugwuoji area of Mbaitolu Local Government Area of the State and shot him seven times. He dumped him inside a gutter and left him to die. That was around 8.00pm. Few hours later, my brother saw a security man and begged him to take him to hospital. The security man was scared and he went and called the Police who later took my brother to the hospital. My brother was in the hospital for three weeks and died on February 23, 2015 from his wounds.

”Police team swings into action: Crime Alert learned that based on these startling revelations, the team swung into action and succeeded in arresting five members of his gang namely, Obinna Elah, 26, from Orlu and Vampire’s second in command, Arinze Abecheta, 24, from Okohia, Isiala Mbano Local Government and Chukwuebuka Ikeazota, 23, and Samuel Ugochukwu, 24, both from Arochukwu in Abia, the sixth suspect, and the fifth caught alive, was Clifford Aheana from Omu Awa in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers.

Police said they recovered five AK 47 rifles and an AK 47 magazine containing 300 rounds of ammunition from the gang, while charms were also recovered from the body of Vampire who was killed during the operation.The gang members were arrested by 1.00 a.m on Thursday, March 2, 2017 after a gun battle at Omu Awa forest in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers.

The Police Special Forces working under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Imo State Police Command, swooped on the hideout of Henry Chibueze aka ‘Vampire’ and his gang and engaged them in a fierce gun battle that lasted several hours. This operation was successfully carried out as the dreaded Vampire, died during the shootout with the Police Special Forces while all the other suspects were arrested and exhibits recovered from them.

Meanwhile, Owerri was thrown into celebration when news of the death of Vampire spread into town as people thronged the Police Command Headquarters to have a glimpse of the corpse of a man who had brought death, sorrow, pain and agony to their lives. They waited patiently until the IRT operatives who brought in Vampire’s remains from Rivers State, arrived the Headquarters. Rounds of gunfire were shot in celebration as the operatives arrived and the leader of the team, Abba Kyari, was immediately lifted off his feet by his men the moment he was spotted. The operatives then took the corpse round Imo State to reassure the residents that the police is determined to ensure they have a safe society.

Search for Vampire:

Narrating details of the operation to Crime Alert, a police source said that while they were deployed to Imo State to track down Vampire after his escape from prison, they stormed his home town in Nwagele Local Government Area of Imo State and established contacts with some of the locals who provided valuable information to them. T

here, they discovered that Vampire, had an aunt, living in Anara town in Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area of Imo State, and her children were his closest confidants.

THE operatives invaded the said house and arrested one of his aunt’s sons identified as Chukwuebuka, and when he was identified, he denied knowing Vampire. The operatives, while in Anara, also arrested one of Chukwuebuka’s friends, known as Arinze and he was made to believe that Chukwuebuka, had confessed their involvement in the rescue of Vampire and the subsequent kidnapping they carried out after his escape.

Arinze was said to have quickly denied taking part in the rescue operation stating that he was asked to join the operation but he refused because he was scared.

He, however, admitted seeing Vampire on the day he was rescued and Chukwuebuka’s elder brother know as Cornelius, boasted that he led the gang that rescued Vampire.Kidnap operation after rescue: Arinze said that Vampire kidnapped four persons two days after he was rescued from prison and contracted him to watch over the victims. He said he was paid N100, 000.

When Chukwuebuka was confronted with these facts, he confessed that Vampire was in his house and was being kept in his elder brother’s house. When the police stormed the house, they discovered that Vampire had fled into the bush in Agbaja Town.

The police source continued: “We trailed him to Agbaja Town and made contacts with some vigilante men and he got information and moved to Abia State. While in Abia, we made his brother take us to his house in Aba that was around 2.00 am. Unfortunately for us, we moved to identify the house and cordon off the place. Some dogs started barking and it alerted him. Before we knew what was happening, he threw open his gate and drove out in his SUV in an attempt to escape.

We rained bullets on the vehicle and when we stopped and took possession, Vampire came out with his rifles and started firing. A policeman who was very close to him got shot on his face and chest. He took the rifle of the policeman and left the scene with his injured brother and headed towards Imo State, from there he moved into Rivers State.Police accomplice exposed: His cousins also informed us that he bought a Mercedes Benz and it was being driven by a dismissed policeman. He gave us the name and phone number of the dismissed officer.

When we called and invited him to his former office, he showed up and he was arrested. He then told us that he took Vampire to his home town in Rivers State. Immediately we drove down to Rivers State and when we got to the spot where he kept Vampire, we took possession, shot tear gas canister into the place and when he felt the smells of the gas, he started shooting.

He shot at various directions and when he stopped, we opened fire on him and he discovered that the bullets were coming from various directions and he started running deep inside the forest. After a while, we stopped, but we discovered that he was still shooting as he was running and when he stopped, we called members of the vigilante in that village to lead us into the forest to search for him. After a very long time, we found him around 1.00 am. We also arrested his second in command but we couldn’t arrest his brother who sustained a bullet wound.Confessions of dismissed police accomplice: The dismissed police accomplice narrated to Crime Alert how he was recruited by Vampire and how he rescued him from Imo, Abia and Rivers States when the police were hunting for him. He explained that he was made to swear to an oath never to betray him and he also threatened to wipe off his family if he betrayed him. He said he worked for Vampire out of fear that he could carry out his threats.

According to him: “I am 33-year-old and a native of Omuama Village in Ikwere local government area of Rivers State, I was a Mobile Policeman attached to 18 PMF. I met Vampire after he was released from prison. I spoke with him first in January 2017; he called to confirm if I was the mobile policeman he heard of. When I asked how he got my number, he told me that his friend Obinna gave it to him and he also told him how I helped him while in the cell.

Last year March, I was arrested for going for an illegal duty and my commander detained me at the Imo State Criminal Investigations Department. While in the cell, Obinna was detained in another cell close to mine and whenever I was eating, he normally begged me to give him part of my food. After a while, I asked where he came from and he told me that he was from Imo State but lives and work in Aba, Abia State. He also told me that he was a shoemaker and that he has not been allowed to communicate with his family. I spent over six weeks in that detention.

There was a day the Commissioner of Police came to the cell and ordered everyone in the cell to come out and he started asking them what their offence was. Obinna told him that he was caught in someone’s house where he went to spend the night without knowing that the person was a thief, and when the person was caught breaking into someone’s shop on Douglas Road, the policemen brought him to his house for search and there they found him sleeping and arrested him. Then the CP ordered that he should be freed but his Investigating Police Officer insisted that he must provide N4,000. He approached me and begged for money.

I gave it to him and he was released.After rescue operation in court: “When Vampire was rescued from the court, Obinna called to inform me that he was out from prison and three days later, Vampire called and said he wanted me to help him pick up a car from a man coming from Onitsha.

He also gave me N400, 000 to give to the man. I met the man at Control Junction, Owerri, and collected the Mercedes C class from him. He called and also asked me to keep the car. After one week, he asked me to come with the car to Amaraku area and I should stop by a church and put on my light. When he met me, he directed that I should put off my ignition and come out of the car; that was the first day I set my eyes on him. When I came out of the car, he led me to a place and brought out a gun and cocked it.

I was shocked when I saw the gun and I asked him what was happening.He then brought out a cup of water and said I should drink it. I drank it and he told me that he was scared of working with me but with this water that I have taken, he would be alerted whenever I want to betray him. He threatened to kill me and my family.

I took the car away and he called me three days later to say that he was stranded at Attah axis on the Owerri-Okigwe Road, that I should come and rescue him. Time was around 9.00pm, I was in my house in Owerri when I received that call and I went out immediately. I met him and he was carrying a bag, two mobile phones and some documents. I took him in the car and we went to Amaraku and dropped him close to the church and went home.One week later, he called to tell me that the police have arrested his driver’s brother and that his driver’s sister would be coming from Port Harcourt; that I should take her to the police station to know what was his offence. He also told me that since the police have arrested his driver’s brother, he has moved from Amaraku and is presently at Agbaja in Nwagele. Few hours later, he called again and said that the vigilante men in Agbaja were having issues among themselves and the person he was hiding in his house is also a member of the vigilante; that he was uncomfortable because the vigilante men had been arrested by policemen at Orlu Area Command.

Race to Aba: I was in Owerri when he called again and I zoomed off immediately to Agbaja. I saw him putting on a big jacket and he was carrying a bag filled with guns. He jumped into the car when he saw me and we drove to Aba. Obinna was with us and he sat at the back with his rifle cocked, ready to shoot at anytime. We drove down to Osisioma Junction along Aba Port Harcourt Road and he called his driver in Aba, Isiagwu to bring out his bus and he entered it. He didn’t allow me to follow him to the house in Aba.

I and Obinna came back to Owerri. By 4.00 am the next morning, he called me again and said that he was attacked and his life was in danger. He pleaded that I should come and rescue him. I left my home immediately and drove down to Aba and he was directing me. I picked him up with one injured person (I don’t know his name) and he told me that the person was his brother. We drove back into Amaraku and he collected some cash and cloths and told me that I should take him to Bayelsa State.Threatens to blow up Concord hotel, attack Gov,

family: When we approached Concord Hotel, he told me that it would be his first target when he returns to Imo State. He explained that he was heading to Bayelsa State because he wanted to make it difficult for the police to reach him. He said he was going to blow up Concord Hotel with rocket launchers and after that, he would go after the Governor of Imo State and his family. When we got to Umu-Agwor area, his wounded brother started bleeding seriously. He begged me to take him to a place where he can treat the wound. I took them to an uncompleted building in my village, then I went to repair the vehicle at Elele close to my village.I took the vehicle to a mechanic and he said he could not repair it; that I should come back the next day.
I went back to him and he gave me N20, 000 to fix the car and get him short knickers. I went back to Owerri to fix the car. While I was at the mechanic, I got a call from my former office, but when I showed up, I was arrested. The police told me they were looking for Vampire and I took them to my village where I kept him. I was on handcuffs when the police went after him. When the shooting started, he called and told me to stay out of my village that he was under attack. He did not know that I was with the police team. When the shooting stopped, he called again and said that he has been shot and was running deep into the forest. His brother, Obinna, also called and said that he was in trouble and I asked him to go to my house and stay. When he got there, he was arrested,” he narrated.
