Nairaland GeneralDoctors Use HIV To Cure Leukemia by BarryX(op): 11:47pm On Nov 11, 2014
A Utah man’s leukemia is in remission, thanks to an experimental therapy. Doctors injected him with HIV-infused white blood cells, which were programmed to recognize, target and kill the cancer.

Marshall Jensen was diagnosed with acute lymphoblastic leukemia in early 2012. He then began searching for a treatment that would force the aggressive and often deadly blood cancer into remission. After traveling the country for unsuccessful surgeries, treatments and procedures, he learned about researchers at Penn Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, where they’ve spent two decades developing a breakthrough experimental treatment that kills cancer in otherwise incurable leukemia patients,
The researchers at Penn Medicine, led by Dr. Carl June, focus on using patient's own immune cells ‒ known as T-cells, a type of white blood cells ‒ and HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

"It's a disabled virus," June explained to KSL. "But it retains the one essential feature of HIV, which is the ability to insert new genes into cells.”

The experimental therapy, called T-cell immunotherapy, works by removing billions of the patient's T-cells from the blood and genetically modifying or reprogramming them with a disabled form of HIV in the laboratory. This modification or reprogramming allows them to potentially target and kill their own malignant cells. The modified cells ‒ now called CTL019 cells ‒ are then grown in the laboratory and re-infused into the patient. When the patient's own T-cells recognize and bind to the malignant cell, they have the ability to become activated and kill it, according to the Abramson Cancer Center.

Nigeria is becoming less susceptible to changes with-out. Lesser foreign change is occurring, contemporary Nigerian thinking is rising back to indigenousness, more musicians are taking up native attires (2 tuales for blackmagic).
The hype makes it look like if there is a large community of gays fighting for homosexuality, but there isn't, how would homosexuality be more acceptable when there are no gays?
Any overzealous homo forming activist will probably have senses beaten into him.

Mob mentality and our contemporary drift towards africanness will stop homosexuality from gaining the upper hand; this is what I want to let you know about the Nigerian model.
The moral lesson of the whole charade is Homosexuality as an act cannot stay in a contemporary Nigerian society even if the west resort to arm-twisting and rationalising the wannabes Nigerian westerners butt-lickers grin

pazienza:
Nigeria cannot be more homophobic than the West were decades ago. But their societies evolved and moved on, so shall Nigeria in years to come.
So until then!

Live and let's live "--

The possibility of that happening in a society like ours is pretty slim though - our values haven't been that polarised,

You need to meet a typical Nigerian speak about it to feel the extreme homophobia. And that will be our saving grace for centuries to come.

IGBOSON1:
^^^What makes you think being gay is a recent 21st century discovery?

If two armed robbers consented to carry out a robbery in their bedroom.....no wahala, provided they rob themselves!

You guys keep on harping on this nature/natural thing! How exactly do you define what is natural and what is not? Is asking your wife/girlfriend for a quick blow-job natural (remember her mouth was made solely for eating and nagging) ; is sucking your wife/girlfriends ti/ts natural (remember her ti/ts are exclusively reserved for a baby to suckle on and not for your se/xual gratification); is jerking-off to some po/rn natural; is taking viagra natural? To broaden things a bit: is receiving a kidney, heart or lung transplant from a donor natural; heck.....even flying in the air, is it natural? You see, we could do this all day!

Nature and humanity are not constant, but continue to evolve! What may be termed natural today may not be natural in a few decades or centuries from now! After all, it could be argued that humans walking on all fours and eating raw meat was once considered natural, and the prehistoric dudes of the time may have considered someone who decides to walk on only two legs and have a nice roasted chicken as a freak!

You think Nigeria will get more brownie points on judgement day (over the likes of say the Uk and USA) because they lynched the gays in their country? Live and let live!!
Nobody is arguing heavenly brownie or purply points in diccking an anus. If UK or US thinks allowing gays makes them better cats.
Let them meow on with it

Nigeria as it is, don't just get jiggy with some gay freaks just yet.

Why don't we "Live and let's live" and allow Nigeria live with the conservative rout which is a popular opinion BTW.

They choose gays and WE don't.

That's my definition of live and let's live
PoliticsRe: Man Beaten To Pulp For Defending Gays (photos) by BarryX(m):
The "consenting" mantra constantly used to argue for Gay rights is appalling.

Even two armed robbers consented to carry out a robbery in their "bedroom" too.

And that's none of your business?

These fellas are gradually eroding a pertinent life nature and act, and you expect us to just fold our hands and quote "live and let's live"

After playing down the widespread impact of such a misnomer, few centuries from now, future generations will never forgive us that some idiots stood there quoting liberalism and annoying civility when an important essence of life existence is gradually eroding.

If you can only think "short term"! Most people are particular on what an barbaric exercise such as this can do on the long term impact to humanity if allowed to go unchecked.

Don't be myopic cos your diicck inclination redirects to an anuss. Get some psycho-therapy and redirect it to the proper natural quarters.

What's the penalty for default in payment, which is highly not unlikely.

And at the end of the day- everybody goes home happy.

CultureRe: Which State In Nigeria Is More Open To Inter-state Marriages? by BarryX(m): 8:30pm On Oct 24, 2014
I'm looking at South-South which include the Deltas, Rivers, Edo, cross Rivers etc ,Few "mixed" South-western states and Middle-belt.

South-east is a no-go area for inter-tribal marriages. It takes lots of prayer to approve one. So insecure about the Igbo identity though it comes under the excused cliché of "Protection of ethnic heritage".

PoliticsRe: Buhari Or Jonathan?: Let’s Do Some Mathematics By Dele Momodu by BarryX(m): 2:34pm On Oct 18, 2014
What I don't get is this constant Integrity toga attributed to Buhari ,
And the supposed "anti-corruption" persona!

From what i've seen so far, He's still frolicking with the same people who succeeded in making Nigeria the way it is. Or is his "messianic" anti-corruption gene suddenly going to be active immediately he becomes president.
Executing a typical election in Nigeria is corruption in itself and he's going to be part and parcel of it.

Left for me - Buhari is no Better Devil

PoliticsRe: Buhari Nomination Form Loan: Three Things I Have Learnt About Buhari by BarryX(m): 12:11pm On Oct 18, 2014
Nice points!

Took a loan to buy a nomination form!!! shocked
Like seriously!!
Who does that?

And to think that he came out on National TV to say that , to me is a terrible insult to educated Nigerians.
Spitting that balderdash to some almajiris would have swayed sentiments to his favour.

Besides, I heard something about Islam and commercial interest banking - they don't quite mix.
Do they?
Or did he take the loan from a "non-interest Bank"?
Lots of unanswered questions really!!
CultureRe: Why Someone Igbo Folks Are Becoming Annoying With Their Comments by BarryX(m): 11:25am On Oct 18, 2014
Igbos are naturally like that -- at least it keeps them feeling fly.
Igbos are quite individualistic to say the least,so whenever you hear them "shouting" and chanting cos of someone else's achievement. Just know they're blowing the trumpet for other ethnic to hear and probably massage their ego.

But deep down, they don't give a heck to what the supposedly "celebrated Igbo" did.
Double standards sorta.
If you understand them well enough, you won't bother opening a worrying thread to show how disturbed you are about their attitude.

CultureRe: Nairaland Ethnic Dialogue Submit(neds) by BarryX(m): 10:59am On Oct 18, 2014
ETHNIC IDENTITY
1) I primarily and secondarily identify with the Isoko Ethnic Nationality of Delta State Nigeria, In other words, I'm a full-blooded Isoko-

2)ETHNIC LANGUAGE: We speak the Isoko language with tiny tonal dialects variation between the North and South regions constituting the Isoko Nation.

3) It does matter to me a whole lot, but I play down the temptation of going chronically "ethnocentric" about it.

4)How closely 'connected: Very connected, coming from a home where the language is majorly 70% of the time the Lingua franca- still trying to discover more about my ethnicity though.

5)ETHNIC PRIDE: 100% - No Retreat, No Surrender grin

6) MODERNIZATION DILUTION: I feel strongly that the dynamism of cultures have greatly influenced my ethnic group-- to the extent that the Isoko Language is endangered to say the least. We have few thorough speakers of the language presently. The "Ukani" mentality gravely contributed to the stunt nature of the language influence.

7) SHAPING MY Spirituality- I'm very modern on that so far......

Ugly girls always have self-esteem issues. I can see some of them ranting already on this thread.

The pretty ones like sleekyshuga are modest cos they know what they possess.
The only thing that turns me of "physically" in women is low self esteem and bad manners!

I see those things first than booobi and fine face. My turn-offs analysis pattern is quite different from a typical Naija male!
