To me Newspapers (printed media) are still relevant and useful in the advent of "new media" (social media and co). I still go thru them and even photocopy some sections to use for writing speeches and also keep some which can serve as exhibit. The place of printed media will always be relevant. I have also discovered that not all the sections you find on the printed media is found on the "new media". |

The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Ibrahim Idris, has said the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has perfected plans to withdraw its mobile personnel attached to important personalities in the country back to the barracks. According to him, the measure was intended to bring the police closer to Nigerians. Idris disclosed this on Friday during an interactive session with a group of civil society organisations under the auspices of “The Situation Room’’ in Abuja. He said that the force had created additional mobile police squadron in states to enhance police operations, adding that Nigerians would now have more Special Protection Units (SPUs) in the commands in the zones. The IGP said: “we will withdraw all mobile police back to barracks to concentrate on dealing with serious law and order situation. “It means that we are stopping deployment of mobile police from protecting VIPs in the country because that is not where they should serve. “This is to allow us have enough men on the ground to deal especially with the issues of kidnapping. “We are creating new SPUs in each command; so, virtually all commands will have them, and with the support of the state governments, most of them would be deployed specially to states.’’ Idris said that the decision was basically to stem the cases of incessant kidnapping, adding that it had become a challenge that the force received hundreds of cases daily. He called for the establishment of special courts to address the cases of kidnapping. According to him, the public feel that kidnapers are not being prosecuted enough so there is need to seek strict measure to punish them. The IGP said that with the creation of special task force squadron on terrorism, a lot of kidnappers had been arrested and that the force had 2, 000 suspected kidnappers across the country. He reiterated the force’s commitment to apprehending the notorious and wanted kidnapper from Benue commonly called “Ghana’’, saying that his days were numbered. He thanked Nigerians for their support and called for more collaboration to curb crime “because it will take a collaborative effort to win against crime in the country’’. http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/23/will-withdraw-mobile-policemen-vips-nigeria-police-igp-idris/?utm_source=dlvr.it_dp1&utm_medium=facebook |
The Supreme Court of Nigeria on Friday, ordered Sen.Sani Abubakar Danladi, representing Taraba North Senatorial District, to vacate his seat and refund all salaries and allowances he received within 90 days. The court also declared Alhaji Shuaibu Isa Lau, as the senator representing Taraba North. The order was contained in the judgement of the court on the appeal filed by Lau. Both Danladi and Lau are members of the Peoples Democratic Party. Lau had challenged the decision of the Court of Appeal that upturned his victory during the primary elections. He claimed that he was wrongfully substituted. The apex court also ordered the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to withdraw the certificate issued to Danladi and issue a fresh certificate of return to Lau. The apex court in the unanimous judgment of a five-member panel held that the appellant had the right to participate just like any other candidate in the primary election. The court added that if Lau felt that his right was infringed upon, he had the right to approach the court. “From the totality of the appeal before this court, all the issues are resolved in favour of the appellant. “His substitution at the primary election is null and void since the appellant scored the highest number of votes, the only option is to declare the appellant as the winner of primary election. ” This court hereby orders that the appellant be issued with the certificate of return and the respondent should immediately vacate the seat. “He should return to the National Assembly, all salaries and allowances received as a senator within 90 days. Tunisia is experiencing a growing trade in hymen reconstruction surgery following increased expectation of young women to be virgins when they marry from the society. Reports of young women here being divorced shortly after marrying because their husbands suspected they were not virgins abounds. Yasmine (not her real name) was born into a liberal family and spent many years living abroad. She fears her fiancé will cancel their wedding if he knows the truth about her sexual history. "I had an affair once with a man," she says. "At that time, I couldn't imagine how huge the pressure was in my society and what the consequences could be. "So now I am afraid. If I reveal this to my fiancé, I'm quite sure our wedding will be cancelled." She will now have to pay almost $400 (£310) for the procedure, which will take about 30 minutes. She said she's been saving up the money for several months, keeping it secret from her family and her fiancé. A doctor who will perform the surgery, "Yasmine" said he does two hymenoplasties a week, on average. "Gynaecologists do hymen repair. This is nothing exceptional," Rachid says. "But here some doctors refuse to do it. I personally do it because I disagree with those who make virginity a sort of sacred thing. "It really annoys me. This is a manifestation of a male-dominated society covered up in some religious principles. I mean it when I say it's male dominance and I'll continue to wage an all-out war against it." https://www.nigerianbulletin.com/threads/in-tunisia-non-virgins-can-become-virgins-again-for-400.240583/ |
The Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, has warned Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo against listening to “evil counsels” by issuing threat when addressing them or he will end up a failure like his principal, President Muhammadu Buhari. IPOB issued the warning while reacting to a statement credited to the Acting President, saying those agitating for secession will be dealt with. Reacting to the statement, IPOB stressed that the Acting President has shown that “African leaders lacked the mental capacity and discipline” to operate a “constitutional democracy in a modern world.” IPOB alleged that the “criminal political cabal” that led Buhari “astray on the issue of Biafra agitation” are influencing Osinbajo that “threatening language, mass arrests, illegal detention, killings and brutal crackdown will frighten” its members into submission but that will not happen. The group maintained that it’s struggle for “self-determination” was within the ambit of freedom of expression as contained in the “Africa Charter on Human and Peoples Rights” which Nigeria was signatory to. In a statement by its spokesperson, Emma Powerful, the pro-Biafra group wondered why Osinbajo will threaten to jail its members for expressing their rights, adding that its members are ready to go to jail. The statement reads, “We the members of the indigenous people of Biafra (IPOB) under the leadership of Mazi Nnamdi Kanu condemn unequivocally the distasteful statement credited to the acting President of Nigeria Professor Yemi Osibanjo, to the effect that Biafra agitators who through the instrumentality of IPOB are exercising their God given and inalienable right to self determination, is in violation of the provisions of the General Abdulsalami Abubakar 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. “For such a statement to escape the lips of a learned fellow like Prof. Osinbajo confirms the widely held view that African leaders lack the mental capacity and discipline to operate a constitutional democracy in a modern world. If the corrupt ruling class in Nigeria cannot distinguish between those rights that are sacrosanct, such as freedom of association and freedom of expression under which IPOB operates, then the entire political edifice in Nigeria is a monumental mess. “It is very shameful that a professor of law cannot situate the Nigeria constitution within the context and meaning of the right to self determination as recognized in international law. Somebody should please draw the attention of Professor Yemi Osibanjo to the provisions of the Africa Charter on Human and Peoples Rights which Nigeria ratified and went ahead to domesticate into her local laws. “How can a professor of law threaten jail term for those exercising their right to self determination under laws adopted and ratified by Nigeria? This confirms again the widely held view that legal practice in Nigeria is one almighty joke. We are challenging Prof. Osinbajo to show the whole world how, where and when IPOB committed this offence he alluded to since the inception of the current phase of the agitation. “The criminal political cabal that led President Buhari astray on the issue of Biafra agitation are at it again. By assuring Osinbajo that threatening language, mass arrests, illegal detention, killings and brutal crackdown will frighten IPOB into submission, this same group of corrupt criminals are setting up Osinbajo to fail the same way they caused Buhari’s failure. “If Osinbajo continues to heed their evil counsel by using threatening language when addressing IPOB he will end up a failure like Buhari. Nigeria must understand how ready we are to go to prison. They should build more illegal detention facilities because we cannot stop agitating for our right to self determination until the Nigerian government accepts the need for a date for referendum on the question of Biafra. “Professor Yemi Osibanjo should have consulted superior legal minds to advice him before coming on air to make such misleading comments. The Nigerian Constitution and its provisions cannot supersede international charters and treaties freely entered into by the Nigerian state where such treaties appear to render null and void the obnoxious provisions of the Nigerian Constitution. “Those that wrongly advised Prof. Osinbajo to embark upon the citation of the ill conceived constitutional reference to the indissolubility of the Nigeria, should refer to the landmark Nigerian Supreme Court judgement on the case of Abacha Vs. Fawehinmi. United Nations charter on the rights of indigenous people and African charter which was ratified and signed by Nigeria is still in place till today and overrides the Nigerian Constitution on the rights for the indigenous people to the self determination.” IPOB also warned against the perception that the struggle for Biafra is about war. “We are warning the vocal few rented saboteurs and uneducated public commentators in Nigeria to stop the perverse insinuation that Biafra agitation is all about war. “IPOB is not asking for war, rather what we are asking for is self determination and the only way to achieve that is through the internationally recognized instrument of referendum or plebiscite,” the statement added. http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/20/biafra-stop-threatening-us-will-fail-like-buhari-ipob-warns-osinbajo/?utm_source=dlvr.it_dp1&utm_medium=facebook |
The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) will receive a petition to recall Senator Dino Melaye tomorrow (Wednesday). This was confirmed to DAILY POST, by a source in the Kogi Government. The source who pleaded anonymous, added that all that needs to be done has been completed and “it is left to INEC to take the next course of action.” Recall that on Monday, DAILY POST reported that a total of 188,580 electorates from Kogi West, signed the recall register form of Senator Melaye. Announcing the figure at the All Progressives Congress (APC) State Secretariat in Lokoja, the returning officer for the recall of the serving senator, Adamu Yusuf, explained that out of 360,098 of the total registered voters of the seven western senatorial districts comprising Yagba, Mopa Muro, Kabba Bunu, Yagba East, Koton Karfe, Lokoja and Ijumu, 188, 588, signed the recall register constituting 52.3% of the voters in senatorial district. “Going by the above figures, it is important to let Nigerians know that we have met the Constitutional requirements of 51.1%. Dino has failed to represent Kogi West so we are calling him back home,” Yusuf added. http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/20/inec-receives-petition-recalling-dino-melaye-wednesday/?utm_source=dlvr.it_dp1&utm_medium=facebook |
Think of vitamins and nutrients as an army that will fight off age-related ailments. And the best way to build this army is by eating a healthy, well-rounded diet, says Kristin Kirkpatrick, MS, RD, manager of wellness nutrition programs at the Cleveland Clinic Wellness Institute. While it’s always important to eat well, it becomes especially essential around age 40 because that’s when the rules start to change, she says. (The Power Nutrient Solution is the first-ever plan that tackles the root cause of virtually every major ailment and health condition today; get your copy now!) “Your body probably isn’t working the same way at 40-plus as it was at 20,” she says. Muscle mass starts to deteriorate, we’re much more likely to put on weight, menopause may (or may soon) start, and risk of chronic diseases like cancer, heart disease, and diabetes begins to increase—which means your battle plan needs to start looking a little different. One solution is getting enough of the right vitamins and nutrients, which is possible through healthy eating—and food sources are typically (but not always) a better bet than supplements because they’re better absorbed, Kirkpatrick says. Here are the key nutrients to look out for and the best ways to get them. VITAMIN B12 Once you turn 40 (and definitely after turning 50), vitamin B12 should be on your radar. It’s essential for normal blood and brain function, Kirkpatrick says. And while children and younger adults are likely to get the B12 they need from food—it’s in meat and animal products including chicken, fish, dairy, and eggs—B12 is more poorly absorbed as the body ages, typically starting around 50 because that’s when stomach acid levels deplete. Any time after 40 and before turning 50 is a good time to start getting B12 from a supplement or multivitamin. Aim for 2.4 mg per day (the current recommended dietary allowance), though there’s no need to worry about taking too much, Kirkpatrick adds. Because it’s a water-soluble vitamin, you pee out what you don’t need. (Speaking of pee, here’s what its color says about your health.) CALCIUM It’s hard to know what to think about calcium: A recent analysis of 59 studies designed to measure the role it plays in preventing fractures for men and women older than 50 found that increasing calcium intake—either from foods or supplements—was not likely to significantly reduce fracture risk. And other research has linked calcium supplements to increased risk of heart attack, stroke, and cardiac death for postmenopausal women. But even though our bones absorb most of the calcium they need earlier in life (typically before age 30), the nutrient does play a role in maintaining bone health later in life, too, according to Kirkpatrick. The nutrient is needed for other basic body functions like muscle contraction, nerve and heart functioning, and other biochemical reactions—and if you’re not getting enough calcium from your diet, the body steals calcium from your bones (and weakens them). The bottom line is that you do need calcium at 40 and beyond, but these latest findings tell us you don’t need to go overboard, because more calcium does not necessarily mean more benefit and may even be harmful to heart health, she says. Most women can get the calcium they need—1,000 mg a day for women 40 to 50, and 1,200 mg for women older than 50—if they eat a well-rounded diet with calcium-rich foods like dairy, tofu, sardines, broccoli, almonds, and spinach. VITAMIN D D is a biggie, Kirkpatrick says, especially after 40, because it helps protect against the age-related changes that start to kick in. Vitamin D deficiencies have been linked to diabetes, heart disease, multiple sclerosis, and breast and colorectal cancers—all of which are more likely to crop up the older you get. Plus, D is essential for absorption of calcium in the body, she says. Dietary sources include fish and fortified dairy, grains, and cereals, but generally the D you get from food is poorly absorbed. The sun is the best source of the vitamin, but not everyone lives close enough to the equator to be exposed to the strong rays that will deliver the D you need, Kirkpatrick explains. “If you’re living anywhere above Georgia, you’re probably not getting enough vitamin D from the sun,” she says. Plus, you don’t absorb it with sunscreen on—and you definitely don’t want to be hanging out in the sun without sunscreen (despite any vitamin D benefits). She recommends a D3 supplement (D3 being the type of vitamin D closest to what you would get from the sun). You should be getting at least 600 IU per day (and 800 IU per day after 50), according to current National Institutes of Health recommendations. The tolerable upper limit (i.e., the amount that will not cause harm) is as much as 4,000 IU per day. If you’re too low in D, here are the 10 worst things that can happen when you don’t get enough vitamin D. MAGNESIUM A key function of magnesium is to help regulate blood pressure, which is especially important for women 40-plus, who are already at risk of high blood pressure due to normal aging. Deficiencies in magnesium have been linked to heart disease, diabetes, and inflammation, Kirkpatrick adds. Plus, it helps the body absorb calcium and plays a role in muscle, nerve, and heart function, as well as blood glucose control. Your doc can test your magnesium http://jnh.wpengine.com/magnesium-key-nutrient-health-disease-prevention/levels if you think you might be deficient (and would need a supplement). But if you’re eating a healthy, balanced diet, you’re likely to get all the magnesium you need (320 mg a day for women 40 and up) from food, Kirkpatrick says—it’s found in dark leafy greens, beans, soy, nuts, seeds, and avocados. Too much magnesium does not necessarily pose health risks, but may cause diarrhea, nausea, or cramping. POTASSIUM Potassium plays a key role in keeping blood pressure in check, no matter your age, Kirkpatrick says. In postmenopausal women, research has linked higher intake of potassium from food to decreased risk of stroke—though “high” intake was considered approximately 3.1 g, which is still lower than the recommended 4.7 g per day. And the benefits were seen in those getting as little as 2 g per day, says study author Sylvia Wassertheil-Smoller, PhD, a professor in the department of epidemiology and population health at Albert Einstein College of Medicine. Potassium is definitely a nutrient you want to be getting enough of, but unless your MD prescribes it for another medical condition, Kirkpatrick cautions against taking potassium supplements. Too much potassium can damage the gastrointestinal tract and the heart, and can cause potentially life-threatening cardiac arrhythmias. Most people can get the potassium they need by eating a varied, healthy diet that includes bananas, sweet potatoes, chard, beans, and lentils. You’re highly unlikely to get enough potassium in your diet to be dangerous, Kirkpatrick says. If your doctor does prescribe supplements, she should carefully monitor how they affect you, she says. OMEGA-3S Technically not a vitamin, omega-3 fatty acids still deserve a place on this list because of their myriad health benefits, Kirkpatrick says—and especially because they help counteract some of the negative changes that come with aging, like increased heart disease risk and cognitive decline. Research has shown that omega-3s help lower blood pressure (check out these other ways to lower your blood pressure naturally) and LDL (“bad”) cholesterol levels, reduce the risk of heart disease, and play a role in keeping memory and thinking sharp. In fact, a recent study found that people with higher levels of omega-3 fatty acids in their blood had larger brains and performed better on memory tests, planning activities, and abstract thinking, compared with individuals with lower levels—which suggests that omega-3 fatty acids play a role in maintaining brain health in addition to the other known benefits, says the study’s lead author, Zaldy S. Tan, MD, MPH, medical director of the Alzheimer’s and Dementia Care Program at UCLA. Though you can get omega-3s from foods like fish, walnuts, flaxseeds, and leafy vegetables, taking a supplement is a good way to make sure you’re getting enough, Kirkpatrick says. Either way, aim for 500 mg if you’re healthy, 800 to 1,000 mg if you have heart disease, and 2,000 to 4,000 mg if you have high triglyceride levels. And be sure to ask your doctor about the right dose if you’re taking anticoagulant drugs, which can have serious side effects PROBIOTICS Probiotics are not technically vitamins or minerals either, but they’re important essentials for women 40 and up, Kirkpatrick says. Mounting evidence suggests probiotics play a role in keeping the gut healthy and weight down, and even in lowering risk of heart disease, diabetes, and stroke—all of which is especially important around 40 when muscle mass starts to decrease, making it easier to put on weight and develop insulin resistance. And though you can get probiotics in some dairy and fermented soy products like seitan, foods typically will not contain as many strains as a supplement—and each strain comes with its own benefit, some for helping to control weight, others for helping prevent diarrhea. Plus, because probiotics are actually live and active cultures, you won’t be able to get them from foods that are cooked or heated http://www.homehealthyrecipes.com/7-essential-vitamins-you-need-after-age-40/ |

Eyewitness told newsmen in Kofa that the incident occurred around 8:30pm Sunday, when Muslim faithful were performing their night prayers. “We heard loud sound around 8:30pm, near a mosque, forcing people to run back to their houses “As we were preparing to rescue the victims of the first blast, we heard another explosion close by. “It was really terrifying; many people died and many others were injured “The third explosion occurred after a short while. “Eventually, we evacuated eight bodies in the night, to the hospital, while 25 others were injured,” recounted Malam Ibrahim Kolo, member of a vigilante group. Mr Victor Isuku, spokesman of Borno Police Command, confirmed the incident, saying 17 persons were killed during the attacks. “On Sunday , at about 2030hrs, five suspected female suicide bombers detonated explosives strapped to their bodies in Kofa community, which is about 8km from Maiduguri, and situated along Maiduguri to Konduga road. “The first suicide bomber detonated near a mosque, killing seven persons. ” The second detonated in a house killing five persons, while two other suicide bombers detonated within the same vicinity, killing themselves only”. “A total of 17 persons, including the five suicide bombers died, while 11 persons sustained injuries and were rushed to University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital. “Police anti explosive team were mobilized to the scene and normalcy has since been restored,” he said. Disturbed by the torrents of hate messages spewed out by some malevolent Nigerians to further split the country along ethnic and religious lines, the Department of State Services, DSS, has vowed to expose the sponsors and bring them to justice with immediate effect. DSS said in a statement by Tony Opuiyo, yesterday, that it had begun trailing the sponsors of hate speeches and those involved in issuing threats to certain groups to quit parts of Nigeria. ADVERTISING inRead invented by Teads The security agency said it was concerned that well placed Nigerians could descend to the level of trying to set the nation ablaze with threats to fellow Nigerians in total violation of the spirit and letter of the constitution. The DSS described as false an internet video purportedly showing the massacre of Igbo in Kaduna State, pointing out that the scene was that of an accident which occurred in March 2016 along Owo-Akure Road in Ondo State and had nothing to do with Kaduna State. The agency said: “The Department of State Services, DSS, has watched with keen interest the disturbing trend desperate and mischievous elements have tended to steer the ship of our nationhood to calamity and irretrievable destruction. DSS “Only recently, the Arewa Youths in a statement called for the relocation of the Igbo from the North. Unfortunately, this development has been followed by a release from an unknown source styled, Niger Delta Watchdogs, threatening all Northerners to quit Niger Delta. “Meanwhile, another group went to the extent of harvesting from the internet, a horrific accident scene, for the purpose of making it look like a site of massacre of Igbo ethnic group by Northern youths. “However, the Service has been able to establish that the purported murder scene being depicted as a field of massacre was a high casualty accident scene which occurred along Owo-Akure road, Ondo State, on March 3, 2016. ‘’Those involved in these misleading and despicable acts have since been warned to desist from anything capable of causing disaffection and stoking nationwide tensions. “Consequently, the Service, in line with its statutory mandate of ensuring the internal security of the country, wishes to inform the public that it will stop at nothing to deploy all resources at its disposal to identify and deal with all those culpable, as well as maintain peace and order in every length and breadth of the nation. “To this effect, we warn in very clear terms all those who are charting the course of disunity among Nigerians to desist from their divisive actions. The Service is also not oblivious of the efforts of some miscreants to ignite fear and cause ethnic tensions across the country.” “We strongly condemn in its entirety the call for relocation of anyone to places against their wishes. Such relocation order is not only illegal, but it is also strongly viewed to be against the spirit of our Constitution which allows for freedoms of movement and association, among others. “The DSS, therefore, frowns on the tendency of some ethnic chauvinists to easily and cheaply resort to hate speeches, misinformation and total manipulation of information, especially on the social media, simply to fan the embers of discord and subvert the efforts of government in implementing its policies for the good of everyone. “Well-meaning and law-abiding citizens and residents are enjoined to disregard persuasions by these tribal jingoists to make our beloved country a theatre of the absurd and bloodletting. “It is time for us, Nigerians, to show our humanness and patriotism which have been our defining strength as one united indivisible nation. The Service has already commenced a detailed investigation to get the perpetrators of these hate campaigns as well as their sponsors. At the appropriate time, all those involved in these condemnable acts will be unmasked and decisively dealt with in line with the laws of the land. “The Service wants to reassure the entire populace that it will not leave any stone unturned to ensure that those who are bent on causing a breakdown of law and order are not spared. Meanwhile, anyone with useful information is also encouraged to volunteer same to the Service or the nearest security agency/formation for prompt action.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/06/quit-notices-dss-moves-expose-prosecute-sponsors/ |
The Presidency on Sunday explained why the leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Nnamdi Kanu, was not part of the ongoing consultations with leaders of the South East.http://thenationonlineng.net/nnamdi-kanu-not-a-south-east-leader-of-thought-presidency/

Acting President Yemi Osinbajo on Sunday reiterated that agitations for creation of Biafra and Arewa youths’ ultimatum for Igbos to leave the North are unlawful and against the Nigerian Constitution. He stated this during his opening speech at a consultation meeting with traditional rulers from the South East led by Eze Udo 1 of Mgboko Ngwa Amaise in Abia State and Chairman of South East traditional rulers, Eze Eberechi Dick, at the Presidential Villa, Abuja. According to him, the manner, method and objectives of the agitations are wrong. The agitations, he said, deserve to be dealt with in accordance with the country’s constitutional provisions. Osinbajo said that where there were grievances to be addressed, the only way to make anything right is by doing it right, instead of threatening to break the law or the country. “As you are aware there has been agitation from some of our youths in the south east urging secession, the creation of Biafra. In apparent response young people in the north states, under the aegis of Arewa youths have purportedly issued an ultimatum where they have said set a date for the eviction of persons from south east region who live in the northern states. “Those agitations, the manner of those agitations, the method and objective are wrong, unlawful and the violation of the laws of Nigeria and the constitution of Nigeria. I want to repeat that both the agitations for secession and the ultimatum to leave the northern states are wrong and a violation of our constitution. “Our constitution says in Section Two that Nigeria is one indivisible and indissoluble sovereign state to be known by the name the Federal Republic of Nigeria. “That is the law of our country. Let us not be in any doubt about the fact that the federal government is committed to ensuring that our country remains united. “And that anyone who violates the law in the manner such as we are seeing all over the place will be met with the full force of the law. “And the reason why it is so is because Nigeria’s unity enough blood has been spilled and many hundreds of thousands of lives have been lost. Many have paid for the unity of this country with their lives and it will be wrong of us as men and women of goodwill in this generation to toy with those sacrifices that have been made. “This is why men of goodwill in our generation must not tolerate any tendency that drags us in the direction of yet another civil conflict. “But we must be sensitive to the reasons why there are agitations by the various young men across the various zones of this country. Many have to do with perceived marginalization, some have argued safety in the different zones have been compromised. But I want to say the only way to make things right is to do things right. And it will be wrong of us to approach even our grievances by threatening to disobey the laws or by threatening the integrity of our nation,” he said He assured that the Federal Government is committed to listening to all the reasons, the various suggestions and the various agitations in order to ensure that justice is done to all persons. The meeting was a continuation of Osinbajo’s consultations with leaders of thoughts and traditional rulers from the North and South Eastern regions of the country, following the escalation of ethnic tensions occasioned by the agitation for Biafra and the vacation order issued by Northern youths for Igbo to quit the North. Present at the meeting were Speaker of the House of Representatives Yakubu Dogara, Deputy Senate President Ike Ekweremadu, Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Bala Ibn Da-Allah Others include Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Staff Abayomi Olonoshakin, Inspector General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, National Security Adviser, Babangana Mongonu, Chief of Staff to the President, Abba Kyari, and other top government officials. http://thenationonlineng.net/agitations-biafra-secession-plots-unlawful-says-osinbajo/ |
The Yoruba Youths Council, YYC, on Sunday warned that it would resist any attempt to undermine the authority of the Acting President, Yemi Osinbajo. YYC, which is the umbrella body of all Yoruba youths worldwide, made the remark while reacting to reports that some government officials were bypassing the Acting President by taking files to recuperating President Muhammadu Buhari in London. In a statement signed by its President, Eric Oluwole and National Deputy Publicity Secretary, Segun Tomori, YYC said it was against the spirit and letters of the 1999 constitution, as amended. YYC commended Buhari for ordering aides who bypassed Osinbajo to return to the Acting President. The group noted that the action of the President shows that he has implicit confidence in his deputy. The youth also stated that there would be severe consequences should anything untoward happened to Osinbajo. The statement reads: “Our attention has been drawn to reports making rounds that some government officials tried to bypass the authority of the Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo by taking files to recuperating President Buhari in London. “We commend President Buhari for standing by the constitution and directing that all files should be taken to the Acting President. The President, by this action has restated his implicit confidence in the leadership of Ag. President Osinbajo. “It is obvious that the cabal and a tiny clique of power mongers are trying to frustrate the smooth running of government. We put them on notice that we will resist any attempt to undermine the authority of the Acting President. “We also warn that nothing untoward must happen to the Acting President. The mysterious death of late M.K.O Abiola is still ever green. There will be severe consequences if similar circumstances repeat itself. “We commend the exemplary leadership of Ag. President Osinbajo so far and ask him to continue to stir the ship of State as he deem fit. We are solidly behind him. “While we continue to pray for the restoration to full health of Mr President, we urge cabinet members and all government officials to cooperate with the Acting President as he continues to work for Nigerians. “We ask for the cooperation and support of all Nigerians for Prof Osinbajo as he strives to deliver the promises of the Buhari- led APC government http://dailypost.ng/2017/06/18/yoruba-youths-vow-resist-attempt-government-officials-undermine-osinbajo/ |

The Christian Youths are concerned and deeply saddened with the greedy, parochial and uncomplimentary behavior of some Christian politicians. It is on record that most of these politicians run from one Church and Christian groups to the other not to mention night vigils when they are seeking election. Some have crucified Christ the second by their actions and in actions in the continuous violation and marginalisation of Christians in Nigeria. Unfortunately, many them conspired without conscience to loot massively from our collapsing Nigeria, these people must be chased out of the Church. The Youths will no longer spare any Church found harbouring notorious looters in the name of FAITHFUL TITHERS polluting and embarrassing Body of Christ in Nigeria. Consequently,we hereby urged our respected Clerics across Nigeria to begin the moral assessment of Christians Politicians and their roles in Church development at various levels. We wish to remind them that God cannot be mocked neither are they smart. The day of reckoning is coming. It has come to some. Unlike their Christian counterparts, the Muslims politicians are seen to be devoted to Islamic teaching of observing their five times daily Prayers even with their tight office schedules and using their resources to support Islamic groups and mosques without shame or apology. While our pay less attention to Devotions in their offices. We categorically wish to put our politicians on notice that, we have started mobilizing Youths against all smart Christian politicians who use Christians and Churches, building sentiments when they’ve have nothing to show for their stewardship. The Church and Christian groups will thrive without them, our choice of Candidates eighter Christian or non Christian will be on MERIT this time and records of achievement. Engr. Daniel D. Senate scraps NNPC, establishes 3 new agencies The Nigeria National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC), has been scraped by the Senate. This is following the passage of the controversial Petroleum Industry Governance Bill (PIGB). The Senate had on Thursday, considered and passed the much talked about PIGB, after its clause by clause consideration. In place of NNPC, the Senate recommended the establishment of three new agencies to effectively manage the largely troubled oil and gas sector. Among the agencies established in the bill, is the Nigerian Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NPRC), which shall be headed by a Chairman. The commission will also consist of Commissioners, whose appointments and removal shall be subject to Senate approval. The Petroleum Product Pricing Regulatory Agency (PPPRA) is now under the new commission. The PIGB also established the Nigerian Petroleum Asset Management Company (NPAMC) and National Petroleum Company (NPC), to coordinate the activities of other existing agencies, including the Department of Petroleum Resources (DPR). The bill which consists of 132 clauses has taken time to come, having outlived the 5th to 7th Senate, making the Senate President, Bukola Saraki to describe its passage as “historical”. When signed into law, the document is expected to stimulate Nigeria’s oil and gas sector. It is also expected to help Nigeria reduce corruption and inefficiency in the sector. Chairman, Senate Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Senator Tayo Alasoadura said he was delighted that his committee could achieve much on the bill. “Today we have achieved what people believed was impossible to accomplish”, he told Journalists. It could be recalled that nine months ago, the Senate mandated its relevant committees to work on the old copy of the PIB, which was divided into different compartments. On his part, the Chairman, Senate Committee on Gas, Akpan Bassey, said, the “jinx has been broken”. He expressed optimism that the bill would create confidence on how the business of oil and gas was done in the country. “It will create the right signal to international community that Nigeria is ready for business”, he said. http://dailypost.ng/2017/05/25/senate-scraps-nnpc-establishes-3-new-agencies/?utm_source=dlvr.it_dp1&utm_medium=facebook |

For those that want further their education abroad or those that have studied aborad and need to authenticate their certificates and other relevant documents, these are some steps to be followed: FOR THOSE WHO WANT TO SCHOOL ABROAD: 1. You go to ministry of education Abuja (Federal Secretariat) 8th Floor that's where the office is (prepare to use the stairs cos the lift is not always up dew to power failure) You need to take all your credentials there (WAEC/NECO very important), they will ask for the certificate before the others, they may ask you for a print out of the result u are using (NECO/WAEC), print and hold the scratch card cos usse will use the serial number there. The cards are like N300 each but there its sold at N600 each and printing is N150. 2. You will get a form to fill for the authentication process. The form is sold from N100 - N500 depending on who is selling the forms that day. 3. You will then go and make payments (each document you want to authenticate will cost N300 for now), they will calculate and tell you how much you will pay. they will direct you to a bank (Diamond). 4. Before you get to the bank, find a cyber cafe around (groung floor near Zenith Bank) tell them you to help you generate payment ID from Remita. That ID is what you will use to pay in to the government account at Diamond Bank. 5. Photocopy the teller and go ask of IPPIS or Revenue office (ground floor) there there they will collect the teller and sign o the photocopy. 6. Then you go back to 8th floor and submit then wait or they will tell you when to come back. NOTE: Dont laminate your documents yet cos they will sign and seal it Authentication of documents is Monday to Thursday, they dont attend to people on friday. If You can sort somebody in that office to do it for you it will be faster and it will save you alot of stress. AFTER U ARE THRU WITH MINISTRY OF EDUCATION, YOU PROCEED TO MINISTRY OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS (5-8 MINUTES WALK) 1. You get there and tell them you want to authenticate your document that you have done that of education already. 2. They will collect it and tell you when to come back. Each document will cost N1000. foreign affairs has no stress and its sharp. FOR THOSE WHO SCHOOLED ABORAD If you schooled aborad and you want to authenticate your document or you want to go for service, the process is same as that of ministry of education above cos its done in the same place just that i dont know how much it will cost. I will advise that you do it early cos the last time i was there, there, the documents are still there with the staff in the ministry and NYSC Camp has commenced already. They will be telling you that there is so much work you wont see what they are doing. In order or not to get to the camp when the camp is ending, start the process early. |
Female teachers and students at a Zimbabwean Primary School has fled from the institution claiming that a mysterious baboon sexually abuses them at night. Sources at the school who cannot be named for professional reasons said female members of staff would wake up without their underwear or with signs that they had sex overnight. “One of the teachers said she woke up towards midnight on July 10 and saw a man with a baboon in her room. She said she screamed and the two disappeared through a wall” said a source. A villager, Samson Ncube, 70, said other teachers rushed to her room and when they heard her story, they called for an emergency meeting with village elders. Ncube said the meeting was held on Saturday July 11 and the teachers said they would not spend another night at the school. “They said they were being sexually abused by the baboon. Everyone’s story came out with some saying they had been afraid to speak out because they weren’t sure of what was going on,” he said. Lessons for the 439 pupils have been suspended as only the headmaster, Mandlenkosi Maqeda, and two male teachers have remained. They said 10 female teachers fled after the baboon, suspected to be a goblin, had been terrorising them for a month. Tsholotsho district education officer Kelvin Mathe said the matter was under investigation. He, however, declined to give details and referred questions to the Matabeleland North provincial education director Boithatelo Mnguni. “We got a report from the school about a troublesome baboon and we’re still investigating,” said Mathe. Mnguni could not be reached for comment. According to villagers, the baboon has been appearing at the school for the past one month and a number of meetings have been held at the school to try and bring a solution to the disturbances. “The baboon has been appearing at the school since June and it has scared off female teachers. The teachers first saw strange foot prints at the school and called villagers, who were also not familiar with the prints. “A few days later, one of the teachers saw the baboon outside a classroom while she was teaching. She rushed to call the other teachers but the baboon disappeared. We thought it was a petty issue until the female teachers started telling us that the baboon was sexually abusing them while they were sleeping,” said the headman, Qhelile Mkhwananzi. He said the community was yet to come up with a solution to the problem. Villager Melitha Dube said it was a strange incident that had brought fear within the community. “We’ve heard reports about the baboon for weeks now and we were called to a meeting after most of the female teachers abandoned the school. Unfortunately there was no clear solution to the problem. Some villagers have, however, suggested that we should hold prayers while we think of a solution,” said Dube. An elderly villager, Vusumuzi Sibanda, said he was shocked to see the baboon spoor as he had never seen one in the area before. “This isn’t an area for baboons. I was born here 72 years ago and I’ve never seen baboons here. I strongly suspect that this could be the works of witchcraft by some evil people and it calls for serious investigation,” said Sibanda. “The whole community has no idea how to solve this problem because it’s something strange to us. It’s unfortunate that some teachers have decided to abandon the pupils and they’re missing their lessons. http://nigeriacamera.net/baboon-rapes-primary-school-teachers-and-runs-away-with-their-pants/
