Pandemonium broke out at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport, Abuja on Wednesday when passengers staged a protest over flight delays by Max Air. The protesting passengers complained that they were not informed about the delay until they began to register their grievances. In a video seen by SaharaReporters, the travellers were seen destroying the airlines’ counters and other facilities of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). This comes a few months after the Nigerian government said airline operators in the country must refund the full cost of travel tickets to passengers after a two-hour delay. “On domestic flights, delay beyond one hour, a carrier should provide refreshment, and one telephone call, or one SMS, or one e-mail. They should send you an SMS or email or call you to say, ‘I am sorry, I am delaying for one hour. “Delay for two hours and beyond, the carrier shall reimburse passengers the full volume of their tickets. For delays between 10pm and 4am, the carrier shall provide hotel accommodation, refreshment, meal, two free calls, SMS, email, and transport to-and-fro airport,” the Minister of Aviation, Hadi Sirika had said. Data released by NACA show that in the first quarter of this year, out of the 14,662 domestic flights operated in the country, 7,554 were delayed. Also, 562 flights were delayed out of the 1,871 international flights operated out of the country. Nine international and 149 domestic flights were cancelled. Currently, there are nine domestic airlines operating scheduled flights in the country, while 19 airlines operate international flights in and out of Nigeria, according to the NCAA data.

The National Union of Electricity Employees (NUEE) has shut down all operations of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) indefinitely owing to outstanding payment of about N41billion escrowed in the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). The Union’s FCT chairman, Comrade Godfrey Aba at the shut AEDC Headquarters in Abuja, told The Nation “the industrial action will be withdrawn only when our demands are met.” The action, according to him, has culminated in an outage in all AEDC franchise areas that include but are not limited to the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Kogi, Niger, and Nassarawa. According to him, it was expected that before the strike the Federal Ministry of Power would have intervened in the industrial crisis. Aba said: “Since they have not done that we are still waiting for them to liaise with the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to ensure this money is released so that that not only our staff will receive their entitlements, our customers will begin to enjoy better services.” Asked how much is the debt owed AEDC, he said: “It is about N40 billion. They (CBN) are supposed to release N2.5billion on monthly basis. And it is now getting to two years.” He recalled that in 2019, the CBN escrowed the accounts of the DisCos and there was an agreement that the Apex bank release N2.5 billion monthly to the company. Apart from salaries, the AEDC, according to him, can no longer pay its staff pension, check-up dues and cooperative deductions and others. He noted that it is only AEDC that the CBN is sitting on its monthly payments. Aba revealed that Apex bank had sent its team to confirm that the outstanding claims of expenditures of AEDC were real. The union accused the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (NERC) of standing aloof while the crisis ranges. The spokesman of the Commission, Dr. Usman Arabi, did not pick The Nation’s calls for NERC’s response. The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) in a statement informed that it has available bulk power for delivery to the distribution load centres of the Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) to offtake for its customers. It added: “However, power evacuation from injection substations across AEDC franchise area has been disrupted following a shutdown of the AEDC facilities by its in-house workers’ union. The areas under AEDC franchise include Abuja, Nasarawa, Kogi, Parts of Edo, Niger and Kaduna States. “TCN regrets this disruption and assures Nigerians that normal bulk power delivery to AEDC will be restored as soon as the injection substations are opened for onward electricity supply to consumers.” https://www.google.com/amp/s/thenationonlineng.net/indefinite-outage-in-abuja-nassarawa-kogi-niger-as-aedc-shuts-down/amp/ |

Elogy:Those with NSE Corporate membership status don't write exam they only apply and wait. Even when I went to write exam and interview, someone that was scheduled for exam was taken out of the hall and was told to go after one or two discussions because he is a Corporate member of NSE. I guess you just need to contact the person that registered you and he will brief you on when to expect any communication from COREN. |

A house of representatives panel has raised the alarm over clauses conceding Nigeria’s sovereignty to China in a loan agreement. The clause described as “lethal” by the panel is in article 8(1) of the commercial loan agreement between Nigeria and Export-Import Bank of China. The $400 million loan was obtained for Galaxy Backbone, federal government’s information and communication technology (ICT) agency, in 2018. The loan agreement came to light at an investigative hearing conducted by the house committee on treaties and agreements chaired by Nicholas Ossai, a lawmaker from Delta state, when Rotimi Amaechi, minister of transportation, appeared before the panel. “The borrower (Nigeria) hereby irrevocably waives any immunity on the grounds of sovereign or otherwise for itself or its property in connection with any arbitration proceeding pursuant to Article 8(5), thereof with the enforcement of any arbitral award pursuant thereto, except for the military assets and diplomatic assets,” the clause as reported by Tribune read. The chairman of the committee also said there are agreements signed by the ministry of communications and digital economy where the country’s sovereignty will be breached if it defaults in the agreements. “When the national assembly reacts in this manner, to question some level of agreements being entered into by any ministry of this country with any other nation, we have every right to question that because anything that is going to happen will happen to our generations unborn. Whether we get it from China or not is immaterial,” Ossai said. “The most important thing is that we must save and protect our people as regards agreements, because most of the agreements that have been signed, the national assembly has no knowledge. “Even the details embedded in those agreements are not forwarded to you when demanding counterpart funding. “You don’t have the details, clause by clause, in line with the Act that established DMO. We need to know those details even before going to sign such agreements. But those details are not provided to the parliament. “So, we have the right to question them.” The house treaties committee summoned Isa Pantami, communications minister; Zainab Ahmed, finance minister, and Patience Oniha, director-general of the Debt Management Office (DMO), to appear before it on August 17. Nigeria is currently taking legal steps to escape a $9 billion judgment debt awarded against the country by a UK court over the Process and Industrial Development (P&ID) deal. https://www.thecable.ng/reps-panel-therere-clauses-in-loan-deal-conceding-nigerias-sovereignty-to-china/amp?fbclid=IwAR3rzcjUjxAyx5FStvaQ_TREaycM3gfKy4H-zKRMlK1M8BeasU_D_vOjGjc

COVID-19: Ministry Launches App Development Challenge to Fire Up Creativity in Youth In response to the on-going Covid-19 Pandemic, the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, in partnership with the public and private sector actors, has invited young Nigerians to participate in the 60 Day App Development Challenge aimed at engaging them to compete with one another in the art of mobile application design. The Ministry, who announced this via a statement, said app developers interested in the project should be inspired by the desire to get their fellow Nigerians connecting seamlessly and safely with each other, and conducting their businesses even as the pandemic is still an ongoing concern. App submissions must solve a problem within the following fields: Edu-Tech, Agri-Tech, Sport, Health, Fin-Tech and Telecommunications. "Through this competition, we hope to see a slew of highly innovative and easy-to-use apps, which can be used to improve a range of processes and increase the ease of accessibility to services available to the citizenry," the statement said. The best set of applications will attract multi-million naira prizes and training to further develop the applications. Modalities and rules for participation can be found at noya.ng or www.youthandsport.gov.ng. The challenge kicked off on Wednesday 8th July, 2020. The project is supported by the Bank of Industry (BOI), Industrial Trust Fund (ITF), Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), IBM, Microsoft, Afrilabs, 21st Century and NINE. Frenzy01:You don't have any challenge. Admissions are done by JAMB and also by the school. The fact that your JAMB portal remains same after some years means you were given admission by the school not JAMB but you need to keep that JAMB registration number. You may need it for NYSC mobilisation. Feel free and enjoy the rest of your stay in school. My admission was like yours too given by school not JAMB. Am done serving since. Peace be unto you. |
Chapter1vs6:He can do it. I have seen it happen and before they will realise the truth it would have been too late. You need to go way back to the root of the matter, where things started and falling apart and it was seen as "it doesn't matter". Prayerfully and patiently work things out or very soon you will come hear and write another post how your children's attitude have started changing. Do your best and act fast. I pray God will help you resolve this issue in good time before it gets out of hand. Peace be unto you |
