The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 45-year-old man, Adisa Olayide, for allegedly defiling his 12-year-old daughter in Ilaro, Yewa South Local Government Area of the state.

The suspect was said to have been arrested on Wednesday, November 16 following a complaint from the daughter who cried to the police station and reported her father.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, said the little girl told the police that her mother was late, and the suspect had remarried and had three wives after the demise of her mother.



Oyeyemi, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, explained further that upon the victim’s complaint, the Divisional Police Officer, Ilaro division detailed police detectives to effect the arrest of the suspect.

He said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered the immediate transfer of the case to Anti- Human Trafficking and Child Labour Unit of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Abeokuta grammar school, Baptist boys high school, African church grammar school, Mayflower ikenne, iganmode grammar school Ota, abeokuta girls grammar school were all fighting over the overall best student in west Africa not even in Nigeria oooo. The quantity of google scholarly articles a university has reveals how much of research is being conducted by the university; which is what openness ranking is all about – a university’s research output.

Openness rank is a part of the many indicators that make up several university rankings, others being excellence, presence and visibility; for Webometrics. Although it does not exactly specify the impact of the research papers a university has; the openness indicator however reveals the extent to which a school is engaged in research, which is what world class institutions are known for.

Although no Nigerian university was among the first 1000 in the world, University of Nigeria ranked highest of the Nigerian universities on the list, followed by University of Ibadan, University of Ilorin and Covenant University respectively. Teen gets accepted by all eight Ivy League schools

(CNN) — There must be something in the water at Elmont Memorial High School.

For the second year in a row, an Elmont Memorial High School student has been accepted to all eight Ivy League schools. Last year, the Long Island high school's salutatorian Harold Ekeh chose to attend Yale University after having his pick of all eight Ivy League schools. This year, Augusta Uwamanzu-Nna, Elmont's valedictorian, will face the same decision.

"Having two students get accepted into all eight Ivy League institutions in back-to-back years is humbling but also speaks to the incredible commitment to children by the families and staff within the EMHS Community," said Kevin Dougherty, Elmont Memorial High School principal.

Uwamanzu-Nna was also accepted to the four additional schools to which she applied. The experience has been surreal, Uwamanzu-Nna said in a press release.


"My recent accomplishments reflect the hardworking ideals of the town of Elmont, my supportive parents and my dedicated teachers. I am elated, but most importantly, I am thankful," she said.



Ekeh and Uwamanzu-Nna are both Nigerian. Ekeh was born in Nigeria and came to the United States when he was 8. Uwamanzu-Nna is the daughter of Nigerian immigrants.

"Though I was born here in America, I visited Nigeria many times," Uwamanzu-Nna told CNN affiliate WABC. "And I've seen that my cousins don't have the same opportunities that I have. So definitely, whatever I do, I want to make sure that it has an impact on Nigeria."

Uwamanzu-Nna plans to pursue a science-related major. She was a finalist in the 2016 Intel Science Talent Search for her research on cement that could help prevent underwater oil rigs from rupturing. On Monday, she received an invitation to the White House Science Fair.

She is hoping to attend a school where she is able to combine her varied scientific interests, which include biochemistry and environmental studies, she said in the press release.

There are no secrets to academic success, she said. Her 101.64 weighted GPA was earned through hard work.

"I've struggled with numerous classes in the past," Uwamanzu-Nna told WABC. "But I guess what allowed me to be successful ... is my persistence and my tenacity."

Uwamanzu-Nna hasn't made a final decision on what school she will attend, but with acceptance to 12 schools, she has a tough decision to make.

High school senior Harold Ekeh didn't just get into one Ivy League university. He was accepted into all eight.
Now comes the really hard part: Deciding where to go. He actually got into all 13 schools he applied to, including MIT and Johns Hopkins.

Ekeh was born in Nigeria and came to the United States when he was eight. He wrote his main college essay about the struggle to adjust, including being clueless in U.S. history classes at school. He said he would ask his parents repeatedly why they moved.

"We had a fairly comfortable life in Nigeria, but they told me we moved to America for the opportunities like the educational opportunities," he recalled.

He wants to major in neurobiology or chemistry in college and later become doctor and, ultimately, a neurosurgeon. He was named a 2015 Intel Science Talent Search semifinalist earlier this year for his research on how the acid DHA can slow Alzheimer's.

For Ekeh, the cause is personal. His grandmother was diagnosed with Alzheimer's when he was 11. One of his proudest moments was running home to tell his mother and aunts about the breakthroughs he was finding with DHA.

Outside of the lab, Ekeh directs a youth choir at his church, plays the drums, is part of Key Club and Model UN and was elected to the Homecoming court. He speaks Igbo and Spanish and has a 100.5% GPA.

On March 31 2016, Chioma Onuoha learned she got admission into not one but THREE Ivy League schools-Harvard University, University of Pennysylvania and Princeton University. It is a great feat because Ivy League schools are hard to get into.

Enugu plans to be biggest tourism hub in Nigeria —Ogbu-Nwobodo

The government of Enugu State has taken a giant stride to become one of the biggest tourism hubs in Nigeria.



The Commissioner for Commerce and Industry, Enugu State, Mr Sam Ogbu-Nwobodo, who spoke with journalists at the 2016 Akwaaba African Travel Market, in Lagos, said the way out of recession is to diversify, while describing tourism as a low hanging fruit that can turn around the situation of any economy in a space of time.



According to Ogbu-Nwobodo, “Enugu is not leaving any stone unturned to see that we use the available potential through private partner initiative to boost the tourism sector of the state.



“We are exploring different allied tourism sector to make our state more attractive to visitors, investors and tourists through the Meetings, Incentives, Conferences and Exhibitions (MICE) approach.

“We are stepping up our game in terms of infrastructural development to create an enabling environment that will not only open newer economic opportunities but also create and recreate sustainable jobs and revenue for the state.

The commissioner who lauded Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State, said the governor’s proactive initiatives in repositioning the state has also geared everyone to work with sincerity of purpose to put the state on the world map of tourism.

“We have an approved free trade zone and as a matter of fact, the only free trade zone in south east. We are going to break grounds in that area.

“The whole idea is to create that platform that reduces the entry barriers into investment and as part of that; we are also involved in the entertainment sector, the medical tourism. There is a company that is going to put in place a kind of medical facility that you expect to see outside the country within the free trade zone, so this is just an integrated approach that captures what the tourism session discussed at the Akwaaba and also we try to expand into some other allied areas which I see as interconnected.

“It is also of note to let you know that we are going to have the biggest convention centre in Nigeria, a 10,000 capacity conference for our MICE initiative.

“However, the conference project was inherited, but as part of our policies which believe that government is continual, we felt the project has to be completed and we are going to do that through concession.

“We would provide an enabling environment for concessionaires to come in and finish the project.”

Ogbu-Nwobodo added that the core of the concessioning is to energise tourism and even the economy.

Says Lagos, Rivers, Enugu can meet recurrent needs

BudgIT , a data-simplifying civic organisation has said 33, out of the 36 states of the Federation, are unable to fulfill recurrent obligations.

In 2015, BudgIT said only 19 states were in that situation.

Before President Muhammad Buhari’s administration officially declared Nigeria in a recession, few months ago, 17 states were reportedly able to meet up with recurrent needs, but, according to BudgIT’s report, only three states can now meet recurrent obligations.

A report released by the organisation titled ‘State of States’ showed that only Lagos, Rivers and Enugu are the states that can fulfill obligations to its workers.

Akwa Ibom reportedly placed last on the table of ability to meet monthly recurrent expenditure commitments followed by Bayelsa, Oyo and Osun, said BudgIT.

Other weak states, according to BudgIT are Ogun, Plateau, Delta, Kwara, Adamawa, Abia, Benue, Bauchi, Jigawa, Kano, Cross River, Kogi, Imo, Ondo, Nassarawa, Yobe, Kaduna, Ekiti, Sokoto Borno and Taraba.

Zamfara, Gombe, Anambra, Niger, Katsina, Ebonyi, Edo and Kebbi were classified as states with fair shortfalls. The report focused on how much revenue is received and generated by the states, the total debt stock and the total recurrent expenditure of the states.

Lagos, Akwa Ibom and Rivers are the states with the highest budget for 2016 while Delta, Lagos and Akwa Ibom are the states with the highest domestic debts.

The table of the external debt profile showed Lagos, Kaduna and Edo at the top of the table with Yobe, Borno and Taraba occupying the bottom spots on the table.

At the second National Executive Committee (NEC), meeting of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC), in Abuja on Thursday, March 24, 2016, President Muhammad Buhari dropped the bombshell that 27, out of 36 states, are unable to pay workers’ salaries.

On October 18, 2016, the president reiterated inability of the states to pay salaries, despite collecting bailout funds from Abuja.

At a meeting with the International Committee of the Red Cross President, Mr. Peter Maurer, the president said “about 27 of our 36 states couldn’t pay salaries when we came last year and we are still struggling with that. But, we will get out of it.”

Five months ago, the federal government announced plans to give fresh N90 billion bailout to states, to cushion the effect of the current economic crisis, although with stringent conditions. In the fresh bailout, as at June, only five states qualified, according to the Finance Ministry, to access bailout funds with 22 conditions attached to the bailout.

One of the conditions for accessing the fund is that beginning December 2016, states must publish their financial statements, budgets and the quarterly budget performance within nine months of financial year end.

The money was to be disbursed in two tranches, with an initial N50 billion released in three months and another N40 billion in nine months, which would be shared among qualified states at a 9 percent interest rate.

In June 2015, barely one month in the saddle, government gave the states bailout to enable them clear arrears of salaries owed workers.

As part of bailout for financially ailing states, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) restructured existing bank loans owed by state government from a short term repayment period of about seven years to a minimum of 20 years. Bank loans acquired for salary arrears were reportedly extended to a minimum of 15 and not more than 20 years.

Founded in 2011, BudgIT is a civic organisation that uses an array of technological tools to simplify the budget and matters of public spending for citizens, with the primary aim of raising standard of transparency and accountability in government.
