Mrs Mercy Chintua, has been arrested by Enugu State Police
Command after she was accused of assault after the pregnant soon to be
mother bathed a neighbour with hot water over allegations the neighbour
was spying on her
The suspect, who resides at Akwuke, Awkunanaw axis of Enugu
State, was apprehended by the state security authorities after a
complaint was placed by Emmanuel Anyebe, whom she accused of
allegedly peeping on her while she was having her bath on February
23.
Mr. Ebere Amaraizu said, Police Public Relations Officer,
PPRO,: “Mercy poured hot water on the victim as he was going to
bath. She alleged that the victim was peeping into the bathroom while
having her bath.
“The hot water inflicted serious body burns on the victim. As a result of
the injuries sustained from the act, he was unconscious and was rushed
to a nearby hospital. The victim has denied ever peeping on the woman
during bath.
“The suspect has, however, pleaded for leniency as she ascribed her
actions to demonic spirit in her.

The two suspects, according to a police officer, were charged with conspiracy, rapé and stealing of a Blackberry phone belonging to the victim.

A police officer, who confirmed the story, said: “On Feb 25th at 0815 hours, one Adekola living on Akanbi Street, Molade area of Ibadan reported that his younger sister and a secondary school student went to school and did not return home. All efforts to trace her proved abortive.

“Then about 23:00hours, an unánimous caller called through the victim’s GSM number and identified himself as kidnapper and demanded N6,000. The DCO led other policemen and the victim was rescued.”

“She was unconscious and was rushed to a nearby hospital. She later narrated how she was kidnapped and gang-rapéd by three persons. Two arrests have been made while the third suspect is still at large. The two suspects have been charged to court.”

I write this letter in response to your statement, “We are not
conductors so we don’t ask for change”. I just want to tell you that in
the real sense of it, bus conductors do not ask for CHANGE. It is
usually the passengers who ask for CHANGE.
Your husband, Goodluck Jonathan was chosen as the driver to convey
Nigerians to their destination; PDP was appointed the conductor; and
the Nigerian masses were and are still the passengers. As passengers,
we had paid our bus fares in 2011 using the vote currency and now, we
are asking, demanding for CHANGE as we approach our destination,
2015.
Oftentimes, bus conductors do not agree to give the passengers their
CHANGE easily (at least not without a fight or exchange of words ).
Like the bus conductors we know, PDP does not intend to give us the
CHANGE that is due us even when they know this is the right thing
to do.
But we the Nigerian Masses (who live without basic amenities; who
are unemployed; who do not feel secure at home and in public places;
who have been designated as targets for shooting practice etc.) have
decided to get our CHANGE from the conductor (PDP and Cabals)
.
You see the wind of change has so caught with you. This is why even
you ought to vote for CHANGE.

to Otuoke or Okrika, the choice is yours

A photo from D’Banj’s 10th year anniversary in Lagos last month just

She spends her spare time in a similar way to many
other ten-year-old girls – playing with Barbie dolls and
making loom bands. But the key difference between
Esther Okade and other children her age is that she
has been accepted to study for a university maths
degree – despite not going to school.
Esther, from Walsall, West Midlands, has enrolled on
an Open University course months after she passed
her A-levels – and wants to study for a PhD before
running her own bank.
The girl, who gained a C grade in her maths GCSE
aged six, has joined the course which started this
month. Her younger brother Isiah is already studying
for his A-levels – also aged six.
The siblings are both home-schooled by their mother
Omonefe, who has converted the living room of their
semi-detached, three-bedroom house into a makeshift
classroom.
Mathematician Mrs Okade, 37, said: ‘Esther is doing so
well. She took a test recently and scored 100 per cent.
Applying to the university was an interesting process
because of her age.
‘We even had to talk to the vice-chancellor. After they
interviewed her they realised that this has been her
idea from the beginning. From the age of seven Esther
has wanted to go to university.
‘But I was afraid it was too soon. She would say,
“Mum, when am I starting?”, and go on and on and
on. Finally, after three years she told me, “Mum, I
think it is about time I started university now”.’
Mrs Okade added that Esther – who will study for her
degree at home – was ‘flying’ and ‘so happy’ when
she was accepted by the university, and wants to be a
millionaire.
She said: ‘For now we want her to enjoy her
childhood as well as her maths. By the time she was
four I had taught her the alphabet, her numbers, and
how to add, subtract, multiply and division.
‘I saw that she loved patterns so developed a way of
using that to teach her new things. I thought I would
try her with algebra, and she loved it more than
anything.’
Esther stunned her parents last year when she
achieved a B grade in her pure maths A-level.
She applied to the Open University last August – and
after a phone interview, an essay and an exam, she
was told in December that she had been accepted onto
the course.
Her father Paul, 42, a managing director, added: ‘I
cannot tell you how happy and proud I am as a
father. The desire of every parent is to see their
children exceed them, and take the family name to
great heights, and my children have done just that.

Aljazeera, the Asian television power house, in an investigative piece
on their show “People and Power ” have alleged that east African
nation, Kenya, amongst several other African nations had been part and
parcel of a fixed gambling ring which involves Nigeria.
According to the allegations made by the investigative piece, the
gambling ring started of in Singapore before spreading

friendlies as well.
The investigation was carried out recently and mentioned in particular a
game between Kenya and Nigeria in 2009 during the South African
World Cup qualifier. This allegation is refusing to die. It is only
resurrecting.
The man behind the whole deal is mentioned as Wilson Raj Perumal
who became a key suspect and later witness in FIFA’s clampdown on
corruption.
Former Harambee Stars coach Twahir Muhhidin has called for
thorough investigations by authorities into the latest allegations of match
fixing involving the 2010 World Cup qualifying fixture between Kenya
and Nigeria. The match was held in Nairobi on the 14th November,
2009.

Fresh allegations surfaced on Thursday on the Aljazeera 26-minute
documentary titled “Killing the ball”.
“If those allegations are true, it means (the Biblical) Judas (Iscariot)

Kenya then.
“They should carry their own cross, having cost us tens of millions of
shillings and betrayed their country of birth. Investigations need to be
carried out and these players named and shamed,” Muhiddin, who now

Perumal arrived in Nairobi three days to the match accompanied by
three of his associates including Manimaran Kalimuthu whom the
Aljazeera report suggests used to carry “loads of money to facilitate
payments”.
The four booked in and stayed at the Safari Park Hotel, which is
located less than a kilometre from where the match took place and also
where Harambee Stars players were residing.
Kalimuthu claims his boss Perumal met with the said players before and
after the match.
The agreement according to the report, was that the Kenyan players be
paid Sh7 million (on current exchange rates) to ensure Kenyan lost the
match. Nigeria beat Kenya 3-2 to qualify for the World Cup.
The starting line-up on the day had Willis Ochieng’, Musa Otieno
(now Harambee Stars assistant coach), Edgar Ochieng’, George
Owino, Julius Owino, John Njoroge, Victor Wanyama, Peter
Opiyo, Dennis Oliech, Patrick Oboya and Emmanuel Ake.
The reserves bench had Wilson Oburu, Pascal Ochieng’, Joackins
Atudo, Hillary Echesa, Patrick Osiako, John Barasa and Allan
Wanga. “I have two players…or three players in the Kenyan
Aljazeera’s People & Power…logo of the programme
team and they will ensure Nigerians win on the day,” Perumaj is heard
saying on the video.
Responded through e-mail: One of the Kenyan players –
according to the report – responded through email confirming he was
ready to do business.
“Listen my friend, we r serious n ready 4 the biz. We promise u we
wont let u down,” he wrote.
The report adds that both the Kenya FA, which recently suggested that
the 2015 Africa Cup of Nation qualifier between Kenya and Lesotho
was fixed and went ahead to constitute a probe committee. No date no
word has been said about the investigations or findings of the team.

The television report says Fifa has been reluctant to comment on the
Nigera versus Kenya match
Muhhidin – who took over as coach of Harambee Stars days to the
match following the abrupt resignation of German Antoine Hey, insisted
he selected the team on his own, but that he considered advice from a
“Council of Elders” which had been put in place by the federation
consisting former national coaches Jacob “Ghost” Mulee, James
Siang’a and Mohammed Kheri.
Besides Kenya, Perumal also confesses to influencing the outcome of
matches in Mozambique, Lesotho, Sierra Leone and Zimbabwe, while
his company also influenced the outcome of high profile games at the
Women World Cup in China (2007), Olympic Games in Beijing
(2008), Africa Cup of Nations in Ghana (2008), AFC Cup in Asia
(2008) Gold Cup in USA and “several” 2010 Fifa World Cup.
Embattled NFF officials approached will not make comments about
the report.

The Blues' manager was measured in his criticism of the officials who
dismissed the Serbian midfielder for his reaction to an ugly challenge
from Ashley Barnes
Jose Mourinho insists appealing Nemanja Matic's red card against
Burnley would be a waste of time as he continued his bitter feud with
the Football Association.
The Serbian midfielder was sent off for violent conduct after he reacted
to a dangerous Ashley Barnes tackle in Chelsea's 1-1 draw with
Burnley.
When asked his opinion on Matic's red card, Mourinho replied: "Have

COMMENT: Luis Enrique's side were made to look ordinary against
Malaga at Camp Nou and their latest loss raises serious doubts over
their recent return to form

Back to square one for Barcelona. After 11 straight wins and some
superb showings in recent weeks, Luis Enrique's side ran into a brick
wall against Malaga on Saturday - for the second time this season. And
as Manchester City await in the Champions League on Tuesday, the
signs are very worrying indeed.
Malaga frustrated Barca back in September at La Rosaleda, when the
Catalans failed to register a single shot on target. However, Luis
Enrique said on Friday: "We are a different team now."
But are they really? Barca's first effort on target this time came via a
Luis Suarez header just short of the seven-minute mark. And 15
seconds later, they were behind as Dani Alves' awful back-pass fell
way short of goalkeeper Claudio Bravo and Juanmi kept his cool to
round the Chilean and net as Jordi Alba sprinted back to try and save
his fellow full-back.
It was a gift of a goal, but Barca's high line can be prone to such
attacks. Malaga gave the home side problems all afternoon with their
quick breaks from deep positions and their intense pressing high up the
pitch. If the two league games had been a knockout tie, the Andalusians
would have triumphed. Barca, be warned.
"Mistakes are made by the team as a whole and by the coach first and
foremost," Luis Enrique said afterwards. "We never focus on
individuals."
Perhaps more concerning than the nature of the goal and how it was
conceded, however, was the fact that Barca barely looked like scoring
in a match at home against a supposedly limited rival.
Indeed, this match evoked memories of the 1-0 loss at Camp Nou
against Celta Vigo in early November, when Luis Enrique's side
huffed and puffed but were stifled with relative ease and ultimately
created very little.
"It's a harmful result for us," Luis Enrique said. "Malaga played a
good game. I'd like to say it was an accident, but I will judge that over
time. This is a defeat that I believe may even have been deserved."
Bigger teams will likely come out and attack more than Malaga. The
Andalusians defended desperately with 11 men behind the ball at times
and played very much on the edge with a number of niggly tactical fouls
at key moments.
But Barca should be used to that by now and with the world's finest
forwards in their midst, much more was expected. Instead, Lionel
Messi was working wonders out wide, only to see his good work
wasted as soon as he found a team-mate in the centre. Arguably, that's
where he should have been all along, although the lack of space
afforded by Malaga's defenders made it difficult. And as the afternoon
wore on, Barca's best player dropped deeper and deeper - which is
rarely a positive sign.
So nothing new for the Catalans. Without Messi's heroics to see them
through this one, Luis Enrique's side were made to look ordinary and
this latest loss means they are likely to find themselves four points adrift
of league leaders Real Madrid on Sunday, with the title out of their
hands once again.
The defeat to Malaga is also the worst possible preparation for
Tuesday's trip to City in the Champions League, especially with
Manuel Pellegrini's men free-scoring in their own fixture against
Newcastle on Saturday. So despite all their good work in recent
weeks, Barca are back to square one and they now need to prove
themselves all over again. What a waste.
