The herbal drug which Madagascar says it uses to treat COVID-19 patients has reached Nigeria.
President Muhammadu Buhari, who received portions of the drug on Saturday from Guinea President Umaro Sissoco Embalo,Who said the drug must be verified before use.

Garba Shehu, Presidential spokesman, quoted Buhari as saying the drug will go through the verification process which other remedies for the disease are being subjected to.

“We have our institutions, systems and processes in the country. Any such formulations should be sent to them for verification. I will not put it to use without the endorsement of our institutions,” Buhari said.

The drug, which is branded as herbal tea and named COVID-Organics, was launched on April 20, with its main ingredient being sweet wormwood (Artemisia annua), a plant of Asian origin from where the antimalarial drug, artemisinin, came.

Scores of youths in Isuofia, Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday protested alleged laying of Cables suspected to be for the controversial 5G Technology Network in the community.

Ogun State has discharged three coronavirus  patients after they tested negative twice to the virus.

Commissioner for Health, Dr. Tomi Comer, disclosed this while briefing newsmen at the Conference Room of the State Ministry of Health in Abeokuta.

She said: “I have good news. In the last 24 hours, three individuals have been given a clean bill of health in the state and discharged from one of our isolation centres to join their families and resume their normal life, thus bringing the total number of discharged individuals to.

“We have only three active cases and they are being treated by our doctors and other healthcare workers in one of our Isolation and Treatment Centres.

“In addition, so far, we have identified 210 persons who had contacts with the positive cases, out of which 110 underwent the required 14-day quarantine period......

Suspected Fulani herdsmen have allegedly invaded a village in Omala Local Government Area of Kogi State killing scores of farmers and some residents.


The herdsmen reportedly invaded the communities simultaneously in the early hours of Thursday (today) shooting sporadically at every object in sight while some of the lucky residents fled with gunshots injuries, Daily Sun reports.

Only a week ago, a married woman, Mrs. Mary Jekeli Edibo, a native of Agbenema-Ife in Omala was said to have been matcheted to death while on her way back from a neighboring village, Agabifo some four kilometers away, where she went to meet with her customers.


An eyewitness, who heard her screaming when she was attacked told reporters that Mrs Edibo had returned from Ibado Akpacha market some two hours earlier and headed for Agabifo to arrange her purchased goods for subsequent transportation. The federal government has ordered closure of tertiary institutions and unity schools across the nation as a measure to check coronavirus.

Sonny Echono, permanent secretary of the ministry of education, disclosed this in a statement on Thursday.

“We have directed all higher institutions to close this weekend. Unity Schools that have completed their exams are to close immediately. Others are to hurry and close the latest on 26th March,” he said in a statement.

The federal government has also directed the principals of unity colleges nationwide to shut down.

“The Federal Government has ordered the closure of all the 104 Unity Schools in the country on the 26th of March, 2020 as a proactive step aimed at preventing the spread of the dreaded Coronavirus,” Ben Goong, director of press in the ministry of education, said in a statement.

Vu Duc Dam, the country’s deputy prime minister, was quoted as saying all the infected patients, including the oldest who is 73, had been cured and discharged from the hospital.

He said the government did not detect any new case of the infection in the last 15 days.

Although he admitted that the situation remains unpredictable, Dam said the country has won the first round of the virus.

“If fighting COVID-19 has been a war, then we have won the first round but not the entire war because the situation can be very unpredictable,” he said.

Nguyen Long, Vietnam’s deputy minister of health, said there is no medication for the virus, but added that fundamental principle has bee helpful.

He said doctors are required to treat the symptoms, like fever, and the patients should be placed on a strict, nutritious diet.

Plateau state commissioner for health, Dr. Nimkong Larndam has said there is no confirmed case of coronavirus in Plateau state.

The commissioner however said there 43 persons had to be isolated for 14 days so as not to take chances.

An aggrieved soldier has opened fire on his colleagues at army super camp 15 in Malam Fatori, Borno state, killing four of them and leaving two injured.

Sagir Musa, spokesman of the army, who confirmed the tragic incident, said it happened in the early hours of Wednesday.

He said efforts were ongoing to brief family members of the affected soldiers, adding that the case is being investigated.

“A Corporal of the Nigerian Army serving at the Theatre Command Operation LAFIYA DOLE, Army Super Camp 15, located at Malam Fatori went berserk in early hours of (yesterday 26 February 2020 and opened fire killing 4 of his colleagues before shooting himself,” Musa said in a statement.

The body of slain Iranian commander Qassem Soleimani was pictured inside a cardboard coffin and resting across a row of seats on board a plane as it was flown from Iraq back to his home country for his funeral.

The remains of the feared Quds commander and four other members of the Revolutionary Guard top brass killed alongside him in a US drone strike last week were marched through the streets of Baghdad before being loaded on to the aircraft and flown to the city of Ahvaz, in southwest Iran.

Footage from the flight shows cardboard coffins laid across rows of seats in what appears to be the economy section of the plane as video tributes to Soleimani play on the in-flight video screens.

Following the massive funeral marches in Iraq and Ahvaz where protesters chanted 'death to America', Soleimani's body was taken to the northeastern Iranian city of Mashhad.

From Mashhad, Soleimani was flown to Mehrabad International Airport in Tehran.
