Religion / “don’t Let Politicians Deceive You; Forget About Religion And Tribe” – Fashola by beatsbyj2g(m): 7:46am On Feb 01, 2015
Ahead of the 2015 general elections, Lagos State Governor Babatunde Fashola, has advised Nigerians against voting based on religious or ethnic sentiments.

The governor enjoined electorates to vote based on merit.

Fashola said this while addressing a large gathering at the monthly draw of the Lagos Home Ownership Mortgage Scheme on Wednesday.

The governor advised Nigerians to be careful of politicians, who only remembered them during the election period to make promises they will never fulfil.

He said, “It is election time and they will start coming with vote-catching promises, but they have never kept their promises before.

“We on our part, see promises as something sacred and must be kept. We make promises and we keep them. We promised to deliver 200 homes monthly and we have kept our promise. These are the physical examples that we keep our promise and it is not about tribe or religion.

“When you are making your choice, forget about religion; forget about tribe because you are not choosing us to come and pray for you, but to work for you. God has already chosen the reverends and the imams who will pray for us and give us full spiritual diets.

“What we need now are people who will help us face our physical battles like providing electricity, schools, security, health care and jobs. That is what we need.”

Fashola berated the President Goodluck Jonathan administration for the worsening state of security in the country.

The governor said it was unfortunate that Jonathan had left the country worse than he met it.

He said, “They enjoy making promises they cannot keep. You have heard promises about security, not so? Promises made four years ago. But, we handed them the Federal Republic of Nigeria, with all its component parts intact and we are back four years after with some parts of Nigeria already taken away from them and they are saying the next four years will be better”.

Education / Scorecard: Stakeholders Differ On Jonathan’s Performance In Education Sector by beatsbyj2g(m): 8:21pm On Jan 31, 2015
By Amaka Abayomi

It was Lyndon B. Johnson, LBJ, 36th President of the United States of America that said “freedom is fragile if citizens are ignorant.” He had asked Congress for $1.5bn in new school programmes aid, saying “nothing matters more to the future of our country.”

Whether Nigeria’s leaders agree with LBJ in thoughts and action, whether a fragment of $1.5bn (on January 12, 1965, when LBJ made the demand) is spent on education in Nigeria today doesn’t require the knowledge of rocket science to assess.

Amidst ASUU strikes, promises of meeting UNESCO’s recommendation for education and Federal Government’s establishment of more varsities, President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration achievements in the education sector will have to be based on what can be seen.
There is no denying the fact that policies of the successive governments in Nigeria have added little value to educational advancement, which is being ravaged by a myriad of problems, and they worsen as the day goes by.

President Goodluck Jonathan
Chief of the problems is inadequate funding – which leads to other setbacks like shortage of quality staff, dearth of infrastructure, inadequate classrooms and offices, proliferation, insufficient admission spaces, examination malpractice, brain drain, inadequate laboratories for teaching and research, shortage of books and journals, low remuneration, inconsistent and ill-conceived policies among others.

In 2012, Nigeria spent less than nine per cent of its annual budget on education when smaller African nations like Botswana spent 19.0%; Swaziland, 24.6%; Lesotho, 17.0%; South Africa, 25.8%; Cote d’Ivoire, 30.0%; Burkina Faso, 16.8%; Ghana, 31%; Kenya, 23.0%; Uganda, 27.0%; and Tunisia, 17.0%.

The sector witnessed a 15 per cent increase in 2014 budget as 10.7% of the year’s total budget was allotted to education, up from 8.7% in 2013.
But speaking at the 2013 Education Summit organised by the Lagos State government, former Minister of Education, Mrs. Obiageli Ezekwesili, said the problem with Nigeria’s education system is not more funding but accountability and transparency.

“The fundamental challenge of education in Nigeria is the many decades of poor sector governance and entrenched dysfunction with no mechanism of accountability and performance.
“When the funds meant for the sector leaves the Ministry of Finance to the Ministry of Education, it is still very robust, but it would be suffering from anaemia by the time it gets to the schools.”
Vanguard Learning sought the views of educationists, parents and students on how the sector has fared under President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

The Zonal Coordinator, Lagos Zone of the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, Professor Adesola Nasir, said there has not been any significant improvement in the education sector in terms of structure and output.

Nasir said “The structures are decaying and the overall output from primary to secondary schools, such as rate of passing WAEC and NECO, among others is falling. The secondary schools and Colleges of Education have not really improved in terms of structure, infrastructure, teaching materials and staff training.

“This administration witnessed more strike than its predecessors as universities were on strike for over six months while polytechnics and Colleges of Education were on strike for close to one year, and that’s a very serious loss of valuable time.

“Funding is also an issue as apart from the initial funds we received from government in 2013, we did not receive anything for 2014 and we are now in 2015 and there is no hope of us getting the required funds.

“The worst aspect is that the horizon looks bleak. Though some people would say that 12 new varsities were established but the issue is that these varsities were established with funds forcibly taken from TETFund, and the money used for all of them is not enough to adequately fund one standard varsity.”
Stressing that the education sector has been virtually .

Education / Buhari Describes Jonathan’s Achievement In Education Sector As Empty by beatsbyj2g(m): 5:32pm On Jan 31, 2015
Presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Mohammadu Buhari (retd.), has deflated claim by President Goodluck Jonathan of his administration recording outstanding achievements in the education sector, describing the claim as empty and inconsequential.

The APC Presidential Campaign Organization that disclaimed this rather held the administration responsible for serious shortcomings in the sector, and blamed President Goodluck Jonathan for presiding over the greatest decline ever known in the education sector in the nation’s history.

In a statement issued by its Director of Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the party blamed the administration of President Jonathan for the present confusion in the sector ridden with long strikes occasioned by the poor management of the sector by his appointees.

It continued that “A second characteristics of the sector are the ill-equipped and poorly-staffed universities set up by President Jonathan in 2011 for the purpose of winning votes. The Jonathan’s universities are more like glorified secondary schools. Thirdly, is the continuous mass failure of young Nigerians in international examinations like the West African School Certificate (WASC).”

The APC presidential campaign spokesperson maintained that his party “have taken note of President Jonathan’s song in his recent campaigns around the country about the number of new universities and tertiary institutions he has set up in the past six years and how he hopes that these would train our youths to take the country to the moon.

“We dare say that none of the new universities set up by President Jonathan, meets the standard of good institutions in terms of infrastructure, adequate and well-trained academic staff and proper planning about the future growth and development of these universities.

“Therefore, it amounts to self-deceit to say and believe that his ‘’political universities’’ can take Nigeria to the moon. As a result of the lack of foresight and policy somersault of the Jonathan’s government in the area of education at all levels, the nation has continued to grapple with the problem of low standard of many young graduates and high rate of failure of the nation’s youths in international and national examinations like WASC and NECO.

“Therefore the claim of President Jonathan of having performed wonderfully in the education sector is a bogus claim which cannot stand rigorous examination and analysis,” he noted.

The APCPCO categorically alleged that the future of our education has bcome precarious because the administration of President “Jonathan has only carried out cosmetic improvements for the purpose of winning votes and retaining power rather than well thought out and fundamental changes that genuinely transform the sector.”

Politics / Akwa Ibom Will Give Jonathan 100% Votes –Akpabio by beatsbyj2g(m): 5:23pm On Jan 31, 2015
The governor of Akwa Ibom State, Chief Godswill Akpabio has promised the national leaders of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP that his state would vote the party 100 per cent in the forthcoming elections.

Akpabio made the promise while addressing the PDP presidential campaign in in Uyo on Friday, assuring President Goodluck Jonathan of his reelection no matter the amount of propaganda against him by the opposition.

“In Akwa Ibom, we will give you 1.67 million votes as valentine gift. Nigeria will not go backward. In the midst of distraction, you have done well in human empowerment, transportation, education and agriculture.

“You have proved that you read to Ph.D level by your action. Education matters”, Akpabio said.

Also speaking at the rally, the South-South Coordinator of the PDP presidential campaign organisation, Gov. Liyel Imoke of Cross River, said Jonathan administration had moved Nigeria forward.

Imoke stated that PDP governors in the South-South zone had performed creditably well and would deliver PDP in the coming elections, assuring the president that the zone will vote massively for him.

On his part, Dr Amadu Ali, the Director-General, PDP Presidential Campaign Organisation, called on Akwa Ibom people to drive away any party that was not PDP.

“PDP has done very well. Goodluck has refurbished the moribund railway and undertaken educational reforms,” Ali said, urging the people of the state to keep faith with PDP in order to benefit from agriculture that would be the target of revenue generation for the next administration.

Politics / Yorubas Will Not Vote For Buhari, We Don’t Trust Fulanis – Gani Adams by beatsbyj2g(m): 5:13pm On Jan 31, 2015
Factional leader of the Yoruba group, Oodua People’s Congress (OPC), Ganiyu Adams, has informed the presidential candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (rtd.) not to expect getting a bloc vote from the South-west in the February 14 presidential election. He said a good number of his people are yet to get over their reservations with the Fulani.

Adams told Nigeria Today that he does not agree with projections made by some pundits that Buhari will make a clean sweep of South-west by virtue of the dominance of his party in the geo-political zone, saying, “South-west is a place that you cannot use the media to deceive. We are highly exposed and highly educated.”

His words, “For you to say we should go one way, it is impossible. I don’t think that the South-west will vote for Buhari en mass. Don’t forget the pain caused by the June 12 annulment, it is still fresh in the mind of our people many died in the cause of June 12 struggle, many lost a lot of properties. I don’t think our people will trust a Hausa/Fulani man from the north this time around.”

Adams’ stance aligns with that of the leader of another faction of OPC and founder of the Unity Party of Nigeria (UPN), Frederick Faseun, who has already thrown his weight behind Jonathan, with his party adopting the President as its candidate

Meanwhile, Adams was quick to point out that Jonathan alone should not be blamed for the nation’s failing. He insisted that governors and lawmakers should equally share in the blame.

Lol lemme just tell you what I know. I own an H6 and my mum owns an Infinix hot. The thing is that if you want a phone with big 5inch screen and large internal memory then you should go for the infinix hot but if you want awesomeness, nice camera, gestures and powerful battery then the H6 is the phone for you. I'll be honest, the only thing I like about infinix hot is the internal memory, the camera is wack and I don't care about the 5inch screen.
