"We have noted with much regret, the grossly irresponsible, false and mischievous claim by the Governor of Jigawa State, Alhaji Sule Lamido that President Goodluck Jonathan has refused to act on information that a serving minister recently collected a bribe of $250 million from an oil company.
The Presidency views the patently bogus allegation reportedly made by the Governor in a radio interview yesterday (November 14, 2013, Thursday) as an unacceptable and callous attempt to unjustly impugn the integrity of President Jonathan and cast aspersions on the seriousness of his Administration's efforts to curb corruption.
The allegation and the claim by Alhaji Lamido that he informed President Jonathan of the acceptance of the huge bribe by an unnamed minister is absolutely without any foundation in fact or reality because no such communication has ever taken place between them.
We abhor Governor Lamido's descent to the unscrupulous, reckless and thoughtless peddling of arrant falsehood in a puerile effort to score cheap political points against President Jonathan for personal and sectional political gains.
If, as he claims, Alhaji Lamido has credible information about a minister receiving the said amount as bribe, he should publicly name the minister involved without delay and provide evidence to support his allegation.
In the event that he is unable to do so, he should be prepared to offer an unreserved apology to the President and Nigerians for his unwarranted and unjust effort to denigrate, disparage and malign the President and the Federal Government.

Mr. Ademola Rasaq, former
Chairman of the Peoples
Democratic Party (PDP) in Osun,
is dead. He was aged 53.

Mr. Bola Ajao, the Publicity Secretary
of the party in Osun, confirmed the death in an
interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
at the party secretariat in Osogbo.

"The former chairman died in the early hours of
today (November 14, 2013, Thursday) in Ibadan
as a result of heart conditions.

"He developed heart complications at the break of
dawn and was driven to University College
Hospital, Ibadan, by Bayo 'Ijebu' his driver.

"It was at the UCH in Ibadan that he was
confirmed dead," Mr. Bola Ajao narrated.
The Publicity Secretary added that the party has
lost a true leader, a grassroots politician who was
ready to carry everybody along.

"The party has dispatched vehicles to Ibadan to
convey the corpse of the late politician to Osun.

"We are discussing with the family to fine-tune
where to bury him immediately and other issues,
as he is a Muslim."
NAN reports that staff of the PDP Secretariat in

congresses today to brief its members on
President Goodluck Jonathan's offer.

Nigeria public universities were closed down

There have been a lot of calls to the Federal
Government and ASUU to come to a compromises of that students resume academic activities. Both warring factions had maintained hard stand on the issue as ASUU argued that poor funding was responsible for the dwindling fortunes of education and its attendant poor quality of graduates, while the Federal Government said the university lecturers downed tools over enhanced
earned allowance.

The leading members of the Senate and President Jonathan had separate meetings with the union and relevant stakeholders last Monday, in the coruse of which new offers were made to the teachers with a plea for them to re-open
universities.

A branch Chairman of ASUU stated that the
outcome of today's meeting of the various
branches would be announced to the national
leadership of the union, which will in turn
convene an emergency NEC meeting between
Wednesday and Thursday this week to consider the positions of various branches .

The Chairman, who did not want his name to be mentioned, said:
"It is at the meeting that the various branches
will take position and communicate same to the national leadership Monday evening, then an emergency NEC meeting would be convened between Wednesday and Thursday.
"We have not been told of the venue, but we
were told to prepare because it would take two days by road from my branch."

Yesterday, new details of last week’s Boko
Haram attacks on Damaturu, the Yobe State
capital, emerged and it was revealed that
no fewer than 128 people were killed.

Reports by Associated Press (AP) have made it
known that 23 soldiers, eight policemen and 95
insurgents were killed in the five-hour long battle
between the Islamic extremists and troops.


These details were compiled through the use of
Military and Hospital reports.

Although, no exact figure was given on the
number of casualties, reports showed that
militants had a strong hand and caught troops by
surprise.

months after the federal government imposed a
state of emergency in Yobe along with Borno and

Glory Ojuala drugged by husband

The 30-year old housewife claimed that two days
after she gave birth to their child, her husband
started pestering her for sex in the presence of
her mother, who was on a visit.

Glory told the court that she denied her husband
sex because she was still recovering from pangs
childbirth and was breast feeding, but he
accused her of having extramarital affairs and cut
the family’s daily feeding allowance to N100 to
punish her.

Glory alleged that she did not know that her
husband had an ulterior motive when she gave
her a soft drink while she was eating on the day
her husband drugged her.

The nursing mother alleged that after she took
the soft drink, she couldn’t explain what
happened afterwards until she was revived in a
hosptial three days later.

She said that she later knew that her husband
drugged her to have sex with her when he
confessed that he did so because she was
denying him sex and was sleeping with other
men.

She told the court that after the incident she
moved out of his house and since then they have
been living separately, while her husband
abandoned their children for her to take care of
them alone.

The embittered woman had petitioned the court
seeking for the dissolution of their 15-year
marriage on the grounds that her husband was
threatening her life, did not take care of her and
their children and beat her, adding that she does
not love him anymore.

Glory narrated in court how Alex Ojuala, an
indigene of Edo State, came to her village in Eket
in Akwa Ibom State and married her at a tender
age.

She said despite her age, she accepted to marry
him against her family wish, only to be maltreated
by him after they started living together.

She told the court that she believed that he
charmed her to marry him and her suspicion was
confirmed when she started attending church.

Glory asked the court to compel Alex to take care
of their children by providing for their upkeep and
education. In response, Alex denied all the
allegations made against him and said he had
been taking care of his family until trouble
started.

Alex said he used to give his wife N200 daily
before leaving for work and wondered how she
would claim that he did not take care of her and
their children.

He also said that he was no longer interested in
the relationship and asked the court to dissolve
the marriage.

He promised to provide N10,000 for the up keep
and education of the children.

The president of the court, Mr T. A. Eko, queried
Alex for abandoning the responsibility of the
training their children for his estranged wife to
shoulder and asked him to have a change of
heart for the interest of the children.

The matter was adjourned till March 2014.

The Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Education, Senator Sola Adeyeye on Monday described as ‘ridiculous’ the pay demands by the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) on the federal government.
This is just as he challenged lecturers to a public debate to justify the unresolved pay demands which has led to the protracted strike by university lecturers.
Adeyeye who is a Professor of Molecular Biology told newsmen at the National Assembly against the backdrop of last week’s Senate debates on the protracted ASUU strike.

On account of his contributions at plenary,
Adeyeye was particularly criticised by the ASUU chairman, University of Ibadan branch, Dr. Segun Ajiboye.
“There is no question that the enormous rot in
Nigeria’s education sector cries for urgent and
immediate attention.
But as unpopular as saying so might make me to the membership of ASUU, the truth is that ASUU has been a part of the problem.
I would gladly love to engage Dr. Ajiboye in a
prime time televised debate on my assertion,”
Adeyeye stated.
The senator proposed five practical
solutions to this “most national pressing
crisis’: firstly, the National Assembly should
henceforth appropriate at least 26 per cent
of Nigeria’s current revenue to education
alone.

Second, the education ministry must ensure the streamlining of the “endless parastatals that drain resources while making little or no contribution to national well-being and progress.”

Thirdly, the government in a bid to raise revenue for funding a “national redemption programme”

in education, all imports should attract a
mandatory education tax of one per cent.
Fourth, beginning from January 1, 2014 till
December 31, 2018, all workers in Nigeria must contribute five per cent of their income as education taxes. Embezzling any amount of these revenues targeted for education should be taken as an act of treason.

Fifth, the costs for running the offices of all
elected and appointed political office holders
should immediately be pruned by 50 per cent.

According to Adeyeye, the “implacable” demands by ASUU are fueled by resentment at the “obscene” privileges which Nigerian politicians enjoy.
