Politics › Anti-Graft War:Jail Corrupt People In Your Government First, Fayose Tells Buhari by BeeBeeOoh(op): 8:47pm On Nov 17, 2017 |
Ekiti State Governor, Mr Ayodele Fayose has told President Muhammadu Buhari to stop being hypocritical about his fight against corruption and rid his government of corrupt elements first, saying; “Someone needs to tell the President that Nigerians no longer believe in his anti-corruption fight because he harbours the most corrupt Nigerians in his government.”
President Buhari had said yesterday, in Abuja during the presentation of the book, “Making Steady Sustainable Progress” that any public official caught will go to jail. Reacting through a statement on Friday, by his Special Assistant on Public Communications and New Media, Lere Olayinka, Governor Fayose asked; “How many of those indicted of corruption in President Buhari’s government has he jailed? Isn’t it the height of hypocrisy for a President that is using APC broom to sweep corruption involving his men under the carpet to be talking about jailing anyone caught stealing public fund?”
The governor, who insisted that President Buhari was only hiding under anti-corruption fight to harass his perceived political foes, said; “We have a President who is the Life Patron of Corruption in Nigeria. His government is not only corrupt, the government itself is corruption! Sadly, our President is still carrying on with the mindset that Nigerians are still listening to his lyrics of ‘we are fighting corruption.’
“Today, it is seventeen days since President Buhari sacked the suspended Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Babachir Lawal, and the Director General, National Intelligence Agency (NIA), Ayodele Oke, has any of them been arrested by the EFCC?
“Apart from sacking Oke, has President Buhari told Nigerians any other thing about the $43 million discovered in the Osbourne Towers, Ikoyi, Lagos apartment? Who owns the apartment?
“What has happened to those involved in the fraudulent reinstatement of the former Chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Mr Abdullahi Maina, who was declared wanted for corrupt practices by the International Police Organisation, (INTERPOL) after he was dismissed from office by the Civil Service Commission in 2013 for allegedly committing N2.1 Billion pension fraud while in office?
“Why hasn’t Maina been arrested by the EFCC up till now?
“When the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources Ibe Kachikwu’s alleged that the Group Managing Director (GMD) of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC); Dr. Maikanti Baru awarded $25 billion contracts without following due process against and weren’t Buhari’s men the ones defending Baru?
“Isn’t the same Abba Kyari, who was accused of collecting N500 million bribe from MTN still Buhari’s Chief of Staff? Has anything been heard about the $5 billion fine imposed on MTN by the federal government after Abba Kyari allegedly received the N500 million bribe?
“Methinks President Buhari should face the reality that there are people in his government that should be in jail by now for corruption. Not until he jails those corrupt elements that are wining and dining with him, Nigerians will continue to liken his threat to jail anyone who steals pubic fund with a cow thief threatening to jail a fowl thief.” https://www.vanguardngr.com/2017/11/anti-corruption-jail-corrupt-people-govt-first-fayose-tells-buhari/Lalasticala, Mynd44 |

Politics › Buhari, Osinbajo To Spend Over N2.5 Billion On Cars And Travels In 2018 by BeeBeeOoh(op): 11:37am On Nov 17, 2017 |
President Muhammadu Buhari plans to spend N1.001 billion on travels in 2018, details of the proposed 2018 budget released by the Budget Office of the Federation show.
The amount breaks down to N751.3 million for international travels, and N250.02 million for local travels. The budget shows that another N907 million would be spent on a phased acquisition of new vehicles and spare parts in the presidential fleet during the year.
Additional N83. 77 million will be spent on tyres for bullet proof vehicles, plain Toyota cars, close circuit vehicles, platform trucks, Land Cruiser and Prado jeeps, Hilux, Peugeot 607, ambulances and other utility and operational vehicles for the Presidency.
On his part, Vice President Yemi Osinbajo will spend about N301.04 million on general travel — detailed as N217.06 million for international travel and N83.97 million for local travel.
The budget sets aside N986.91 million for “miscellaneous” expenses in the State House, while general utility services will gulp N476.87 million. Electricity charge is N274.79 million and N67.11 million is for internet.
President Buhari last Tuesday in Abuja presented a budget proposal of N8.612 trillion for 2018, saying the projected expenditure will drive rapid economic recovery.
He said with a benchmark of 45 dollars per barrel at an exchange rate of N305 to a dollar in 2018, the budget would consolidate on the achievements of previous budgets to aggressively steer the economy to the path of steady growth. “With the economic recovery made so far, it is clear that we made the right decisions,’’ he said.
Mr. Buhari said the government would continue to develop infrastructure and increase investments in agriculture to attain food security and reduce importation.
Other major spending for the president’s office are N4.86 billion for “annual routine maintenance of mechanical/electrical installations” and N1.03 billion for the State House Medical Centre.
Outstanding liabilities on routine maintenance and other services will receive N565.65 million. Overall, the State House which comprises the president and vice president’s offices, and state house administration, will spend N11.545 billion by the State House.
All the proposed spending are subject to National Assembly approval. https://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/249650-buhari-osinbajo-spend-n2-5-billion-cars-travels-2018.htmlhtmlLalasticlala, Mynd44 |

Politics › N2bn Fraud: Maina Writes To Appear Before House Of Reps Panel by BeeBeeOoh(op): 7:54am On Nov 17, 2017 |
Fugitive former chairman of the Presidential Task Force on Pension Reforms, Abdulrasheed Maina, has requested to appear before a House of Representatives investigative panel, Daily Trust has learnt. The House is probing the circumstances of his controversial promotion and reinstatement into the federal civil service.
Maina is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over alleged billion naira fraud. Following media reports about his secret reinstatement, President Muhammadu Buhari ordered his immediate sack. He also directed the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation (HoS), to submit a report on how Maina was recalled into the service.
The report was submitted but its content was soon after leaked to the media causing more scandal for the government because it revealed the involvement of senior government officials in the whole affair.
Sources within and outside the panel told Daily Trust yesterday that Maina, who was reported to have fled the country after the scandal of his secret reinstatement and promotion to a position of director, is indeed somewhere in the country.
It was gathered that Maina submitted some documents to the House panel, chaired by Aliyu Sani Madaki, (APC Kano State). The documents, Daily Trust further learnt, were submitted by one Barrister Muhammad Sani Katu, a lawyer with the Justice Maman Nasir Chambers.
Maina is expected to appear before the panel next week barring change of schedule, the sources said. However, the sources said, powerful forces were making frantic efforts to prevent him from appearing before the panel as he is likely to open “can of worms” against them.
“Yes, he has expressed his readiness to appear before the panel to testify. But the problem is that some forces don’t want him to appear, because they feel threatened; they feel he’s likely to open can of worms.
“That’s the true picture of the situation, but the committee has gone far in its activities. What we can’t say certainly is if the forces will allow the man (Maina) to appear before the committee,” a source familiar with the matter said.
The House last month resolved to probe the circumstances that led to Maina’s recall which it described as embarrassing and unacceptable.
Madaki could not be reached to confirm Maina’s readiness to testify before his committee as his mobile phones were shut down at the time of filing this report.
Maina, who chaired the pension task force during last administration, was alleged to have mismanaged billions of naira meant pensioners across the country. The 7th Senate had probed the matter and indicted him for the offence.
Following the indictment, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) declared him wanted. But he allegedly embarked on a self-exile. He reportedly returned to the country surreptitiously earlier this and got recalled into the civil service and promoted to the position of a director, even though he left the civil service as an assistant director in 2013.
Malami’s case going Babachir’s way – Senators
Preliminary investigation into Maina’s case has shown that it may lead to a repeat of the episode of the sacked Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir David Lawal, senators have said.
Lawal’s trouble started in senate when he was indicted in a grass cutting scandal and finally sacked last month by President Buhari.
Senators who are probing Maina’s scandal told Daily Trust last night that three incriminating evidence have been received against the Attorney General of the Federation(AGF) and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami.
The Senate on October 24, this year resolved to probe the scandal following a point of order by Senator Issah Hamma Misau (APC, Bauchi) on the issue.
A probe panel chaired by Senator Emmanuel Paulker (PDP, Bayelsa) had held series of closed sessions with top officials of the Federal Civil Service Commission (FCSC), Minister of Interior, General Abdulrahman Dambazau, the AGF and other parties.
Twice the panel held secret meetings with the AGF. The first meeting was held on Tuesday and the second one yesterday. It was from the first meeting that it emerged that the AGF met with Maina in Dubai.
A member of the committee said three incriminating evidence against the AGF are in their possession. “The issue is more than his meeting with Maina in Dubai, it is about the documents. When he appeared on Tuesday, we showed him the documents. He accepted one but say he should be given time to look into the remaining two. This is why he appeared again today (yesterday),” he said.
Our correspondent reports that yesterday’s meeting was conducted at the office of the panel’s chairman. Sources at the committee said the panel relocated from the hearing room to the office following the leak of their Tuesday’s meeting to newsmen.
Another member of the panel said: “ we felt may be you people (journalists) hid your recorders at the hearing room when we excused you on Tuesday and that was why you got the information on what transpired in our closed session. “Our finding is going the way of the sacked SGF and we will not allow you the media to jeopardize it,” the Senator said, pleading not to be named.
The source who said it would be difficult for Malami to survive the scandal, said Dambazau knew nothing about how Maina was secretly reinstated and promoted into the civil service.
In an interview, Paulker told our correspondent that nothing would be swept under the carpet in Maina’s probe. Malami could not be reached for comments last night, but Paulker said the AGF will appear again before the panel next week, assuring that, “our report will be ready before Christmas break. We are conducting the investigation in this way because we don’t want our report to be coloured by the media.” https://www.dailytrust.com.ng/maina-writes-to-appear-before-house-of-reps-panel.htmlhtmlLalasticlala, Mynd44
