Former Minister of State (Defence) Musiliu Obanikoro is yet to refund the N785million allegedly collected from the Office of National Security Adviser (ONSA), The Nation learnt yesterday.


Of the cash, Obanikoro planned to immediately refund about N100million to regain his freedom and look for the balance.

From ONSA, about N4.685billon was transferred to Sylva McNamara Limited, a company allegedly linked to the ex-minister.

Obanikoro told Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) detectives that N3.880billion was given to Governor Ayodele Fayose and Sen. Iyiola Omisore out of the said cash.

He also said he handed over $5.377m (N60m then) cash to Fayose at Spotless Hotel, Ado-Ekiti in the presence of the former Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Secretary Tope Aluko and other party stalwarts.

He said the balance of N785million was expended on alleged anti-Boko Haram campaign in Lagos and the Southwest by Sylvan Mcnamara.

The ex-minister is said to be desperately seeking how to refund the money.

A top source, who spoke with our correspondent, said: “The ex-Minister is yet to pay back any money out of the N785million in question. Although he promised initial remittance of N100million, he is yet to do so.

“Instead, he said he will make a commitment to the EFCC to refund the cash. He begged for more time to enable him to look for the refund.

“We are however expecting him to make reasonable refund; we cannot accept just an undertaking from him. He needs to live up to his promise.

“The refusal to refund any amount has been a major issue why his bail is being delayed.”

The EFCC had discovered that Sylvan Mcnamara Limited, allegedly owned by Obanikoro and his sons, was used to launder the N4.745billion.

The company, which was incorporated in November 2011, has the following as its directors: a close aide of the ex-minister, Ikenna Ezekwe(700,000 shares) of 51 Simpson Street, Ebute-Metta; Idowu Oshodi(299,000 shares) of 8, Prince Tayo Adesanya Street, Park View Estate, Ikoyi; and Elizabeth Adebiyi(1,000 shares) of 3, Adedoyin Street, Ijeshatedo, Surulere.

Ezekwe’s accounts have been defrozen by the EFCC since the slush funds were not traced to him.

Ezekwe has also been removed as the company’s director.

A document, which The Nation stumbled on, said: “To set the stage for the use of the company for money laundering, the board of directors on May 7, 2012 passed a resolution that the company should open an account and appointed Mr. Gbolahan Obanikoro, Ikenna Ezekwe, Ms. Theresa Matuluko (Secretary) and Mr. Babajide Obanikoro as the signatories to the account.

“The board added that the signing combination be that any of the signatories can sign alone.”

According to EFCC, when it was time to illegally draw the N4.745billion from ONSA as war chest for Ekiti Governorship poll, ex-Minister Obanikoro made the account of Sylvan Mcnamara Limited available and coordinated the disbursement.

Royal Dutch Shell has resumed crude exports from the Forcados terminal in Nigeria's restive Niger Delta following repairs after a militant attack, the Nigerian presidency said on Tuesday.

A spokeswoman for Shell declined to comment.

"The Shell Director, Mr. Andrew Brown, informed the President of the resumption of oil exportation through the Forcados terminal following its restoration," the presidency said after a meeting between Brown and President Muhammadu Buhari.

Brown is in charge of Shell's upstream business.

Forcados crude has been under force majeure from operator Shell since a militant attack on the subsea pipeline in February, part of a wave against oil facilities in the Delta.

Forcados exports were between 250,000 and 300,000 barrels per day prior to the strike claimed by a militant group, the Niger Delta Avengers.

The Nigerian oil ministry had earlier said in a tweet the OPEC member's oil output had risen to 1.9 million bpd, up from the previously reported 1.4 million bpd. It did not explain why.

"Brown commended the anti-corruption posture of the Buhari administration as well as the efforts to streamline and stabilise the economy for long term projects, saying all the efforts will go a long way to reinforce Shell investment plans in Nigeria," the presidency statement said.

Brown also called for a "continued protection by the Nigerian navy in view of repeated threats of attack by militants".

LAGOS—A teacher, Enilolobo Olamilekan, has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting one of his students at Abogunloko area in Ikotun, Lagos.

Olamilekan, who hails from Lagos State, admitted to have lured the girl to his parent’s apartment at 17 Ayodele Shitta Street, where he took advantage of the 12-year-old Junior Secondary School 2 student.


Parading the suspect before journalists at her Oduduwa office, Ikeja yesterday, Lagos State Police image maker, Dolapo Badmus, explained that the suspect was apprehended by the school’s management after her mother lodged a complaint.

However, Olamilekan explained that he did not have carnal knowledge of the girl. Rather, he said he only put his manhood into her mouth.

According to him, “I teach them Business Studies, while I take some of the students on extra lesson after school hours. Her mother requested for a private lesson for her daughter and I told the mother to get her writing materials last Tuesday.

“But on Wednesday, she did not do her home work and when I asked why, she said that her mother had not bought her the books. She also said that she was hungry.

“After giving them the assignment for the day, I went to a shop to buy some things and she followed me. I bought her some books, biscuits and also gave her N50. But the owner of the shop said I should return the empty bottles of soft drinks I earlier bought. She told the girl to follow me to collect them. But when she got home, I brought out my manhood and put it inside her mouth.

“But when I saw my younger brother, through the window, returning from school, I removed it.”

The bubble burst after the girl’s curious mother got wind of what happened and subsequently reported the case at the Ikotun Police Division.

The suspect, according to Badmus, will be charged for indecent assault, admonishing parents to be wary of those they leave their children with, particularly the girls.
