KillerFrost: yea....but consider those in private sector plus the traders... The minimum wage won't favour them...that's why they also have to revisit the fuel subsidy and set things right You are right bro, but the people at helm of the affairs are just self centered people that doesn't fight for the masses rather for their own pocket & their families.. |

Politics › No Plan By FG To Remove Subsidy On Fertilizers Says Official.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 8:20pm On May 20, 2016 |
Abuja – Prof. Victor Chude, the Chairman, National Fertiliser Technical Committee, Ministry of Agriculture, says the Federal Government has no plan of removing fertiliser subsidy now as alleged in some media reports. Chude said this in an interview with on the sidelines of the 2nd Annual West African Fertiliser Stakeholders Forum in Abuja on Friday.
Some media reports had quoted Chief Audu Ogbeh, the Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, as saying that the government had removed subsidy on fertiliser. He said the subsidy would only be removed after the government had met farmers` conditions of prompt availability and affordability of the commodity. “Government is not removing subsidy now.
“It would be removed at a fixed period on a condition that farmers get the right fertiliser such as crop and soil specific fertiliser at the right time, early enough before the rains and at a good price.
“Farmers must also have access to credit at single digit interest rate at five per cent and the value to the produce, which is what the Federal Government is working to achieve.
“Once these conditions are met, the subsidy will be removed.
“Farmers would not need the subsidy by then because they will have access to the credit at affordable interest rate of five per cent compared to 20-25 per cent that banks are currently giving. “It is only when they have achieved this that subsidy can be removed, “ the chairman said. Politics › NBA Advocates Special Court For Corrupt Cases.. by BeeBeeOoh(op): 2:48pm On May 20, 2016 |
The Kaduna branch of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has advised the Federal Government to consider establishing a special court to handle cases of corruption and other related crimes.
This is contained in communiqué signed by the state Chairman, Sherrif Ndasule, issued at the end of the association’s Law Week and made available to newsmen in Kaduna on Friday.
The week, held from May 13 to May 19, had the theme, “The Fight against Corruption: The Role of the Bar and the Bench”. It stated that government must provide adequate machinery to strengthened justice delivery system to ensure maximum result. The association said that such step would go a long way in ensuring speedy trial of corrupt cases and squarely treat the cancer of corruption in the country.
Describing corruption as endemic, the NBA reiterated its commitment in joining the war against corruption, adding that pragmatic and decisive steps must be taken to curb it lest it would kill the nation.
According to the NBA, corruption thrives because we do not recover proceed of the crime of corruption from the guilty and convicted corrupt persons. “Our law must be reviewed to include compulsory forfeiture of illicit wealth of convicted corrupt persons”.
It stated that the NBA would as a matter of urgency set up and strengthened mechanism to monitor and fight corruption in courts and the legal profession. It added that the association would also follow up reported cases of corruption within the legal profession to ensure that corrupt individuals whether from the bar or bench are brought to book.
The association, however, urged government at all levels to train lawyers and judges on corruption related issues; to broaden their knowledge and appreciation of corruption as it affect the legal profession.
“With periodic training, the legal profession would be able to contribute its quota by working hard to change the mindset of Nigerians to reengineer their perceptions of the concept of corruption. “The government must improve the capacity of our various law enforcement agencies in the area of investigation of corrupt cases.
“On our part, we will ensure that lawyers adhere to the code of ethics of the profession in the discharge of their duties,’’ it added.
The NBA equally called for the thorough review of the code of conduct to ensure that it adequately address the purpose of the law and provide appropriate legal frame work for sanctions.
“This should include but not be limited to promptly publishing the declared assets of public office holders and making it accessible to the general public.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/nba-advocates-special-court-corrupt-cases/Lalasticlala |

Politics › ExxonMobil Qua-Iboe Terminal Shut Down Over Militants' Threats by BeeBeeOoh(op): 5:43am On May 20, 2016 |
By Sebastine Obasi & Prince Okafor, with agency report Nigeria is losing about N2.79 billion daily following the closure of ExxonMobil operated Qua Iboe terminal, whose workers were evacuated yesterday. Qua Iboe is Nigeria’s largest crude oil stream and exports usually more than 300,000 barrels per day.
At the current oil price of $47 per barrel, the country is bound to lose billions of Naira daily.
A market source said the evacuation was caused by the threat from militants and that tanks had been emptied of crude. Exxon did not immediately respond to a request for comment. However, the management of Exxon Mobil, yesterday said production was ongoing at Qua Iboe crude oil terminal, despite criminal activity that obstructed staff access to a bridge leading to the terminal in the early hours of yesterday.
Exxon Mobil cut Qua Iboe production and declared force majeure on exports last Friday, after a drilling rig, experiencing mechanical difficulties, damaged the pipeline it jointly owns with the state-owned Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Production was ramped up again earlier this week.
The business plan of the country to export about 800,000 barrels per day Bonny Light and Qua Iboe grade in May and June have already been hampered. This is the third time facilities of international oil companies would be attacked by the Niger Delta militants in three months.
Earlier last week, Chevron Nigeria Limited’s Okan offshore facility was shut-in. Nigerian Navy spokesperson, Commodore Chris Ezekobe, who also confirmed the incident, said the attack occurred about 40 nautical miles from the Escravos terminal, around Warri in Delta State. A group known as the Niger Delta Avengers had claimed responsibility for the attack.
The same group said it carried out an attack on a Shell Oil pipeline in February which shut down the 250,000 barrel-a-day Forcados export terminal.
Also last Saturday, Shell evacuated 98 key personnel on board by helicopters from Eja OML 79, where production of 90,000 barrels of oil per day has been halted. Sources said a small group of staff has been left on the platform to carry out skeletal operations. The staff and facility are offered protection by two gunboats belonging to the military Joint Taskforce of the Federal Government.
Close to Eja 79 is the Bonga Field, which has a larger production capacity and is operated by another Shell subsidiary, Shell Nigeria Exploration and Production Company (SNEPCO). http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/05/nigeria-loses-n2-79bn-daily-qua-iboe-terminal-shut/
