By Henry Umoru ABUJA- PRESIDENT Muhammadu Buhari has pleaded with religious leaders across the country to pray for him to administer the country effectively. President Buhari also charged religious leaders in the country to do more in supporting the Federal Government’s efforts to transform the nation by enshrining what he termed, the culture of good governance and overcoming the security challenges facing the country. Speaking Sunday in Abuja while speaking at the Eagle Square Abuja, venue of this year’s Jama’atul Izalatil Bid’ah WaIkamatis Sunnah, JIBWIS Annual Convention, President Buhari stressed that religious leaders have a duty to support the government in sustaining the current peace and tranquility being enjoined across the country. The President who spoke through the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory Administration, FCTA, Malam Muhammad Musa Bello commended the Jama’atul Izalatil Bid’ah WaIkamatis Sunnah for uniting the Muslim community through the preaching of Islamic tenets which stress the importance of obedience to constituted authority, good morals and the need for harmonious co-existence, adding that their efforts have greatly enhanced the unity and socio-economic development of the nation. He said, “I urge you to continue to support this administration through prayers so that we can continue to have peace and security and above all pray for Allah’s blessings so that we can have prosperity and good governance. “There is no doubt that what we are witnessing today is something that is very important to us as Muslims and indeed to the community and society at large. We all have a duty to continue to support the leader of this group so that he can continue to do the good things that he has been doing for over thirty years”. The occasion which featured the official launching of the appeal fund for the building of an Islamic Centre by the group in the Guzape District of Abuja, had prominent personalities including former Governors and Ministers in attendance. The President commended the past and present administrations of the FCT for giving priority attention to religious organizations in land allocations for the establishment of worship centres and schools for the proper grooming of the future leaders of this great country. Buhari acknowledged that the establishment of the proposed Islamic centre by the Jama’atul Izalatil Bid’ah WaIkamatis Sunnah in Abuja was an important milestone which requires the support of all, adding that efforts should be made to ensure the completion of the project in order to enhance the educational development of the nation. Earlier in his remark, the National Chairman of the Ulama Council of JIBWIS Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir said the proposed Islamic Community Centre will include a Mosque, Islamic School, Conference hall and guest quarters. He called for prayers for the success of the President Muhammdu Buhari led administration and charged Muslim’s all over the country to support the on-going reforms aimed at making life better for the entire citizens of this country Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/good-governance-i-need-your-prayers-buhari-tells-religious-leaders/ |

Ovation Publisher and former Presidential candidate, Chief Dele Momodu has said that any plan to gag social media will fail, saying Nigerians are resilient people and will not succumb to such threat. Speaking during his keynote address, “The Power of Social Media,” at the City People Social Media Awards held on Sunday in Lagos, Momodu said Nigerians survived the move by erstwhile dictator, Gen Sani Abacha’s plan to gag the citizens, hence attempt by government of the day to ban social MEDIA WILL FAIL. “Any attempt to gag us will fail. It will never happen. Abacha tried and failed. Any attempt by any government to stop social media will fail. It is not about protests in the streets, or security agents going after you. Some of us fled this country during Abacha. I was involved with Freedom Radio, sometimes we had to broadcast using the phone. But with the social media, from your room, you can talk to millions of people and no one can stop you.” The Ovation publisher also said that after the magic of electricity and telephone, the social media is the greatest invention by man. On how he became a social media influence, he said the journey started in 2010 with Facebook. ‘’I started using Social media in 2010, Facebook was the most common one then, When I got on Twitter not long after, I actually asked people to manage my account. I just past instruction that I want an announcement on the micro-blogging platform and it is carried out. ‘’But by January 2012, during the fuel subsidy protests, I realised how powerful the 140 character on Twitter has when I decided to reach out to a lot of people as I was the only one who carried a banner and protested in London, US, Ghana and Nigeria. I had about 13, 000 followers when I took over the management of the Twitter account; since then I have been addicted. “The power of the social media is huge; you can reach millions in seconds. We are witnesses’ to what the change agents of the APC were able to do with the candidature of President Buhari,” he said. He urged youth not to underestimate the power inherent in new media considering the reach influence people from the corner of one’s bedroom. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/social-media-nobody-can-gag-nigerians-dele-momodu/ |

Following the raging war be tween Fulani herdsmen and farmers in Agatu local government area of Benue State which has claimed over 300 lives, farmers, under the aegis of Association of Small Scale Agro Producers in Nigeria, ASSAPIN, have sent a Save Our Souls, SOS, to the Federal Government. ASSAPIN pleaded with the Federal Government to stem the unending attacks and killings of defenceless farmers in parts of the country by suspected Fulani herdsmen. Speaking in Makurdi, the Benue State capital, at a three-day sensitization meeting on the ‘Right to Food’ Bill, ASSAPIN National Coordinator, Mr. Charles Adu, lamented that the prices of food had skyrocketed due of low yields from farms occasioned by attacks on farmers. Represented by the Benu State Coordination of ASSAPIN, Mrs. Janet Odejo, the farmers regretted that they had become endangered species who were killed annually by the invaders and pleaded for government’s intervention. “Aside the killings we are also losing billions of Naira worth of farm produce to the activities of Fulani herdsmen, that is the more reason why our call for the building of ranches is apt at this moment,” Adu stated. “Moreover the crisis is taking its toll on the volume of food produced in the country and the earlier ranches are built for herdsmen in the country, the better for that sector.” “Government must also look into the issue of unrestricted inflow of herders from other West African countries into Nigeria because these group are largely responsible some of the crisis and killings.” Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/agatu-killings-farmers-send-sos-to-fg-canvass-building-of-ranches-for-herders/ |

By Yinka Ajayi Second Republic governor of Kaduna State, Alhaji Balarabe Musa, says the economy has been going from bad to worse since President Muhammadu Buhari assumed office almost nine months ago. “You must have the political will and sincerity to do justice to everybody”, the veteran politician tells the President in this interview, saying he (Buhari) requires more than integrity or credibility to administer Nigeria. You are aware that some Igbo are agitating for Biafra? Well, the government provoked them! When this government appointed its kitchen cabinet, was there anyone to represent the interest of the South-East there? Detaining Nnamdi Kanu, the arrow head of the agitation, is not in the best interest of our dear country. President Buhari, being the father of the country, should try to reconcile with the South-East, the same way the late President Umaru Yar‘Adua reconciled with the Niger-Delta militants. But prominent Igbo leaders have disowned the agitating youths. That is the major reason he should reconcile with them because there is a disconnect between these agitating youths and their leaders. They have been provoked with the exemption of the region from his kitchen cabinet! He is the leader of the country. They are not like Boko Haram that you can’t identify. You simply work with them. He should call them for peace talks and they will respond. Out of the 20 million registered voters, only 15 million voted for him. Should he then ignore the five million that didn’t vote for him? There should be a culture of fairness in governance. What is your message for the President? He has the people’s mandate to rule this country, he should make use of that mandate fairly and with justice. Secondly, he is the commander-in-chief of the armed forces and, therefore, the chief security officer of Nigeria. He is the financial controller of the country, so he can do a lot. The President of Nigeria is what the Yoruba in the South-West refer to as Oga patapata! And in Hausa, they say Sariki yanka (highest king in the land). He should be able to compel everybody to march along. With this, the marginalisation mentality of the Igbo will be corrected and result in peaceful Nigeria. Buhari should run a government of national unity in which other political parties will be involved according to their relevance. The Igbo should be given all their entitlements in representation, according to federal character and as enshrined in the Constitution. If the marginalisation of the Igbo in the kitchen cabinet of the President had happened to the North in the event that a southerner is the head of government, where would Nigeria be? So why is it happening to Ndigbo that are part and parcel of Nigeria? That is why I feel it is a mistake that should be corrected immediately, and things will be favourable to Nigeria and the President. The fact that a great number of Igbo had abandoned Biafra and called for one Nigeria, is a call for peace. I think Buhari should embrace it and make amends Read more at: http://www.vanguardngr.com/2016/02/detaining-nnamdi-kanu-is-not-in-best-interest-of-nigeria-balarabe-musa-tells-buhari/ Cc: lalasticlala |
