That's good. But in other news, An Attack On Boko Haram Is An Attack To The North |
A former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode has denied saying that Nigerians deserve the ongoing attacks by the Boko Haram insurgents for rejecting former president, Goodluck Jonathan. Fani, who was the spokesperson to the PDP presidential campaign team during the last election, said some persons were only out to dent his hard earned name and reputation. Reacting to the allegation via a Facebook post, Fani-Kayode said he never made such comment, adding that he was quoted out of context. His text reads below: “Premium Times, Kayode Ogundamisi or anyone else to allege that I wrote that ‘Nigerians deserve Boko Haram for rejecting Jonathan’ in my last post is absurd. “I challenge all those that doubt me to read the full text of my last fb posting just below and tell me where I wrote that Nigerians deserve Boko Haram. “I never wrote that and neither would I ever do so yet those words were used as the headline for my posting in their internet magazines and they claimed that they were my words. “This is most unfair and it is simply an attempt to mislead the Nigerian public and incite them against me. By Gods grace, it will not work. “Nigerians do not deserve Boko Haram, they do not deserve to be bombed and they do not deserve to be killed and I never said that they did. “What they deserve is a President that is ready to fight terror with everything that he has got. “I urge Premium Times and anyone else that got it wrong to set the record straight and I appeal to my fb friends and others to spread the word and let the truth be known. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/08/i-never-said-nigeria-deserves-boko-haram-for-rejecting-jonathan-fani-kayode/ Cc: lalasticlala

By Henry Umoru ABUJA- GOVERNORS elected on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP yesterday cautioned the Inspector- General of Police, IGP Solomon Arase against over heating the polity over plans to arrest and investigate the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ike Ekweremadu on alleged alliteration of the Senate Rules. The governors under the aegis, PDP Governors’ Forum while condemning in very strong terms what they termed, the police harassment of Senator Ike Ekweremadu under the guise of investigating the alteration of senate standing rules, described the moves by the Police as the obvious prodding of the police by the Presidency and the APC as a result of “their desperation to remove the deputy senate president who was elected by his peers.” In a statement released in Abuja by the media office of the forum and signed by Patrick Okon, the forum also called on the Acting Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Hajia Amina Bala Zakari to as a matter of urgency resign because of obvious conflict of interests as a result of her alleged long standing relationship with President Mohammadu Buhari both on family and official levels. According to the statement, “The honourable thing for Mrs. Zakari to do is to recuse herself of this role as nobody who knows the level of her relationship with the President can believe she will be impartial in her conduct of any matter that the President has vested interest, in this case the success of APC over the PDP in any election especially with the governorship elections coming up in Bayelsa and Kogi states.” The statement also declared support for the re-election bid of governors Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Idris Wada of Kogi state in the forth coming governorship elections in these states, noting that the people will show their confidence in the performance of their governors by re-electing them convincingly. The governors called on Nigerians to hold the APC accountable to all the broken promises so far claiming that the ruling Party has shown itself incapable of delivering on the change it promised during the campaign. http://www.vanguardngr.com/2015/07/dont-overheat-the-polity-pdp-govs-tell-igp-over-ekweremadu/ |
There are strong indications that pro-Ahmed Lawan Senators, under the aegis Senate Unity Forum, were responsible for the petition to the Inspector- General of Police, Solomon Arase on alleged forgery of Senate Rules. According to the letter to the Inspector-General of Police, which was signed by the group’s Secretary, Senator Suleiman Hunkuyi, {APC, Kaduna North}, the group complained that some principal officers in the seventh Senate changed the Senate Standing Orders 2011 as Amended with the inputs and contributions of other Senators. The national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP had on Sunday raised alarm that the Inspector General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, summoned the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ekweremadu to appear before him yesterday at the Force Headquarters as fallout of the emergence of Senator Bukola Saraki as Senate President and Ekweremandu as his deputy. The PDP, in a statement, had said the summon was borne out of a petition by some All Progressives Congress, APC, Senators who were opposed to the emergence of Senators Saraki and Ekweremadu, adding that the petition accused the Deputy Senate President of altering the Senate Rules on the process of election of the Presiding officers. PDP National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh, while addressing journalists said the IGP, who invited Ekweremandu was acting on instruction and that the APC decided to arrest the Deputy Senate President after failing to get him to resign. The Unity Forum letter to the IGP reads: “We write to bring to your attention, the existence of the fraudulent introduction of a 2015 Senate Standing Rules, as amended. We wish to attach the original and authentic Standing Order for 2011 that was used by the 7th Senate, Annexure A. “We again annex Here to a purported amended Standing Orders 2015, which was used by the Clerk to the National Assembly (along with the Clerk of the Senate) in inaugurating the 8th Senate on June 9, 2015, Annexure B. “The so called new Standing Orders purport to allow for secret instead of the open ballot system that has been prevalent in all Senate elections as permitted by the extant rules. “This infraction, among others, arises from the fraudulent production of the Rules without an approved consideration by the 7th Senate. At no time was the Standing Orders of the Senate amended during the entire life of the 7th Senate neither has the 8th Senate sat for long enough to produce the rules now being circulated and in use. “We therefore appeal that you use your good offices to investigate and bring to justice all persons who may have been responsible for this fraud which has led to the undue political crises and abnormalities in the politics. http://dailypost.ng/2015/07/07/senate-leadership-lawan-group-behind-ekweremandus-invitation-by-igp/
