A middle-aged woman, Mr. Agnes Uchendu and her son, Ikechukwu Uchendu, in Umuahia, Abia State, are in police net for allegedly inflicting injuries on their house helps with hot electric iron.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Mr. Ezekiel Onyeke, who disclosed this in Umuahia, said the suspects were picked up based on a petition by the International Federation of Women Lawyers, Abia State Chapter, led by one Florence E. Igwe, Esq.

The suspects, he said, allegedly tortured  their maids – Hope Ajunwa, 11, and Ngozi Ajunwa, 9, who  lived with them.

He said the victims  had been admitted  to the Nigeria Police Clinic Umuahia for medical attention.

Onyeke said the case was still under investigation, adding that  the suspects will soon be arraigned.

Politics › What I Intend Doing After Returning To Nigeria- Buhari Says by BeeBeeOoh(op):
Buhari visited Niger and Chad in his first week in office. The president held talks with Chad’s President Idris Deby to consolidate the achievements recorded so far in the war against Boko Haram and open more channels for collaboration between both countries.

Buari has also met with Mahamadou Issoufou, his Niger counterpart.

During the G7 summit Buhari presented a “wish list” of Nigeria to the international community with a special emphasis on countering terrorism.

Cameroon’s leader Paul Biya was noticeably absent at a summit in Abuja last week and was represented by his defence minister.

“But on my return to Nigeria now, I will try to go to Cameroon,” President Buhari said on the sidelines of the African Union summit in Johannesburg.

The current Multi National Joint Task Force came into being after Deby sent troops to help the Cameroonian army against a wave of attacks by the terrorists.

The armies of Niger and Chad have crossed into Nigerian territory but those from Cameroon have not, in an sign of the tense relations between the neighbours.

But Buhari specified last Thursday that soldiers from the new force would not be limited in terms of movement.

The task force will be presided over by a Nigerian officer for the duration of the mission, with his deputy from Cameroon for an initial 12 months once troops are deployed from July 30.

“The most important support is intelligence. What we are looking for from the G7… is intelligence. We want help in terms of logistics,” the Nigerian president, who made the fight against Boko Haram his prority, said.

“Boko Haram declared that they are in alliance with ISIS, so terrorism has gone international. They are in Mali, they are in Nigeria, they are in Syria, they are in Iraq, they are in Yemen… It’s an international problem now,” he said.

Crime › CULTISM: Police Arrests 30 In Ogun by BeeBeeOoh(op): 2:31pm On Jun 15, 2015
From SEGUN OLATUNJI, Abeokuta

Police in Ogun State have arrested no fewer than 30 suspected cult members alleged to have been terrorising Ijebu Ode and its environs.

In recent times, an inter-cult war in the area had claimed no fewer than seven persons within a week.

But the police said yesterday that its intensified efforts to curb cult-related activities in the area had begun to pay off as its men had arrested over 30 suspected cultists within one week at different locations in the Ijebu-Ode axis.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, Muyiwa Adejobi, said the suspected cultists were arrested by a combined team of policemen deployed by the Commissioner of Police, Mr. Valentine Ntomchukwu, to carry out special operations to flush out the hoodlums from the area.

According to Adejobi, some of the arrested suspects include Gbenga Banjo, Akeem Kareem, Dammy, Jawando (real names yet unknown), Kazeem Akeem, Oluwatimileyin Akintunde, Olootu Lukman Neyo (not real name) and Oladele Oluniga.

He added that while some of the suspects had been arraigned in court in Ijebu Ode, the commissioner of police had ordered thorough investigation of the other suspects and more of the incidents recorded in the Ijebu area of the state.

“Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, Ntomchukwu, has recently vowed to tackle cultism and other vices that are capable of embarrassing the police and other security agencies in the state. In a bid to actualise his determination, he has deployed more than 10 teams comprising Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Anti Robbery of the Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence, Mobile Police Force and State Intelligence Buruea, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Department of Criminal Investigation and Intelligence (DCP), Shina Olukolu, and some other senior police officers to carry out operations in Ijebu Area.

“The teams on special operation in Ijebu Ode have carried out raids on many black spots and hideouts, including Fidipote Street, Ogbogbo village, Ita Alapo, Imeweje village and some hotels in the area, which have led to the arrest of the prime suspects or ring leaders, who had been involved in many criminal acts, including series of killings of people in the area and in some other parts of the state.

“The command will not allow any individual or group of hoodlums to truncate the existing security arrangement in the state or embarrass the command. The police boss vowed to take the fight against cultism and other vices to the door steps of the hoodlums,” he said.

The police spokesman further said the state police commissioner had appealed to the general public, particularly the residents of Ijebu Ode, to support the police in the fight against cultism “and believe in the capability of the police and other security agencies in tackling this menace.
