Politics › Conditional Cash Transfer: FG Disburses Cash To 15,768 Households In Anambra by BeeBeeOoh(op): 9:31pm On Oct 27, 2021
The federal government through the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management has resumed the payment of Conditional Cash Transfer to 15,768 vulnerable households in Anambra State.

The Head of Unit, Anambra State Cash Office, Mr. Ralph Enukorah, said the beneficiaries cut across 11 of the 21 local government areas of the state.

Enukorah said the payments started with six pilot local government areas considered poorest in the state including Awka North, Anambra West, Dunukofia, Ihiala, Anyamelum and Orumba South.

He said the programme had been extended to five more local government areas which included Awka South, Onitsha North, Ogbaru, Nnewi North and Anambra East to accommodate more beneficiaries.

The unit head said the register of beneficiaries was generated by a sister organisation, the social operations coordinating unit, which goes to villages and wards to generate data on vulnerable households.

He said that payment was made every two months with beneficiaries getting N10,000 in addition to any arrears for those not paid in previous months.

Enukorah assured all beneficiaries of the payment and commended the federal government for providing the framework for effective implementation of the programme.

“The federal government is paying the beneficiaries of the Conditional Cash Transfer, as a social intervention programme of the Buhari administration.

“Every month, the poor and vulnerable households are paid N5,000 and in Anambra, we have a total of 15,768 beneficiaries spread across 11 local government areas,” he said.

A beneficiary, Mr Sunday Nwanna, said the money would go a long way in ameliorating his burden and that of his family.

Nwanna said though the N10,000 would not be enough for him to set up a cottage business, but that it was a huge relief for him and his family.

He thanked the federal government for the programme and urged it to continue, saying that the gesture meant a lot for the poor.

Also speaking, Mrs Regina Obikie expressed joy for receiving the money as it would help her increase her small business.

The representative of the Payment Service Provided (PSP), Mr. Bernard Nwobodo, said the system was being automated to reduce the stress of accessing payment to beneficiaries.

Nwobodo said the National Cash Transfer Office had begun the digitalisation of the payment process such that ATM cards would be provided for beneficiaries.

He said the process had been activated in some LGAs including Ihiala, Awka North, Orumba South and will be extended to others.

“When these cards are activated, the beneficiaries can access the money through the bank ATM and other financial services providers for easy withdrawal of their money upon verification,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that the initiative is part of the Social Intervention Programme (SIP) of President Muhammadu Buhari administration aimed at providing support for the most vulnerable. (NAN).

I remember once when an army man saw me walking on the street , he called me and started asking my name and what I was doing there , I had to tell him that I lived nearby... It's so embarrassing.

Politics › Senate Rejects Health Ministry's Proposal To Borrow ₦82bn To Buy Mosquito Nets by BeeBeeOoh(op): 8:23pm On Oct 26, 2021
A member of the Senate Committee on Health, Gershom Bassey on Tuesday opposed the move by the Ministry during the 2022 budget defence of the Federal Ministry of Health.

he Nigerian Senate has condemned a proposal by the Federal Ministry of Health to borrow $200 million (N82,070,388,916.76) under the malaria programme to buy mosquito nets in the 2022 budget.

A member of the Senate Committee on Health, Gershom Bassey on Tuesday opposed the move by the Ministry during the 2022 budget defence of the Federal Ministry of Health.

Bassey told the Permanent Secretary, Mahmuda Mamman that the proposal with respect to borrowing $200 million (about N82 billion at the official exchange rate of N410 to a dollar) to purchase mosquito nets was outrageous considering the amount involved.

The Committee’s condemnation was in response to the Permanent Secretary’s earlier submission of the intention to borrow the said amount for the purchase of mosquito nets.

The panel further demanded the total needs of the agency to ascertain if there was a need for borrowing.

Meanwhile, the Executive Director, National Primary Health Care Development Agency, NPHCDA, Faisal Shuaib had said the $200 million was for importation and local production of mosquito nets.

Committee Chairman on Health in the Senate, Senator Ibrahim Oloriegbe, in his reaction, said the idea of borrowing money from World Bank is “money and job for the boys” by somebody in Washington, D.C.

I think Col. Auwal Suleiman is spoiling their business that's why they don't wanna reinstate him. Reason is because, the top powers in the military cash out big time with this insurgency stuff and they wouldn't mind trampling upon his head if he tries to be a hard nut to crack.

Secondly, If I am related to be Col. Auwal Suleiman I will advice him not accept any reinstatement from the military because he'll be their next target since he seems to be a thorn on BHT's flesh or else they'll just kill him like Lieutenant Colonel Abu Ali of blessed memory whom BHTs dreaded then but, ended up dying in the hands of Boko Haram Terrorists.

Please, somebody should tell Col. Auwal Suleiman that his life matters to his family and loved ones and that Nigeria does not worth dying for.

There are some certain things you use your initiative to solve, you don't use force to solve everything but, the problem is that Buhari surrounded himself with bad advisers.

How could a president declare a region terrorist group because he feels that IPOB are a threat to unity of Nigeria when Nigeria has never been united since inception.

BHTs, Killer Herdsmen and Bandits a.k.a businessmen that wields different kinds of arms are not threat to Nigeria's unity according to Buhari and supporters but, IPOB that protests with flags.

Well, what do I know, Southeast leaders have realized that sitting in a round table with an enemy to declare IPOB a terrorist organization only recognized in Nigeria is their greatest undoing.

Politics › Engage Igboho, IPOB Like I Do To Bandits - Gumi Tells Southern Clerics by BeeBeeOoh(op):
Sheik Ahmad Gumi has asked clerics from the Southern part of the country to engage those behind uprising in the region the same way he does to bandits.

The respected cleric said this in a statement he issued in reactions to the call for bandits to be declared as terrorists.

Last week, Governor Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna State said since 2017, he had asked the Federal Government to declare bandits as terrorists.

The governor’s comment had generated different reactions.

Weighing in on the conversation, Gumi said declaring bandits as terrorists is not the solution to the crisis in the north.

“NE is already and is still devastated by this madness for over 12 years. If we allow, terror, to set in into these raw naïve unexposed bandits, NW will be in ruins sooner than later. Already IPOB is destroying SE, and Igboho has set the ball of confusion rolling in SW. For those who want to destroy the NW, it’s a good recipe. Turn bandits into religious zealots. Tell me, what then remains of Nigeria?”

“I have started to get these raw bandits out of their misadventure but unfortunately, I have few helpers and a mountain of antagonists. The psychology in fighting natives is to induce a motive for their struggle if they don’t have one already, a motive that is manageable, and it is so managed. Unfortunately, reactions to threat in our nation are always slow and incoherent.

“I hope another Igbo clergy goes into the IPOB militants likewise and talk sense into them, and another Pastor of Oduduwa land talks against the Igboho secessionist tribal movement by way of sensitising people to the values of a cohesive nationalism that will guaranty freedom, equality, and justice for all. Religious forces can permeate hardened hearts where secular forces cannot.

“Regrettably, people just sit down in the comfort of their rooms or parlours and make useless passing comments that only add fuel to the inferno of ethnic jingoism and bigotry. In the 21st century, Nigeria is hijacked by semi-illiterates and half-baked tribal heroes that have nothing to offer besides promoting tribal xenophobia. Nigeria has over 250 ethnic groupings, it’s not possible to divide such a nation into tribal enclaves. Nigeria is multi-religious, even with one same religion or sect there is no harmony and understanding that can build a prosperous unified nation where tranquillity and development will flourish. We are tired of these bogus destructive fruitless slogans!

“Nigerians are in a daydream so long they act by nerval impulses, not by the dictates of their cerebral cortex,” he said in a statement.

Politics › Oyo Jailbreak: 13 Fleeing Oyo Inmates Rearrested In Osun by BeeBeeOoh(op): 7:19pm On Oct 24, 2021
13 inmates that fled Abolongo Correctional Centre in Oyo town, after the facility was attacked on Friday had been apprehended in Ife Odan, a town in Ejigbo local government area of Osun state.

A reliable security source, who preferred anonymity, on Sunday told The PUNCH that the inmates were wandering in the town on Saturday, when policemen on patrol arrested them.

Amitolu said, “We deployed men to Ogburo, Owu Ile, Ikonifin and other communities along Osun/Oyo boundary. We are also in contact with the residents of these communities and we have made them realised the need for them not to harbor any suspects.

“Our men are searching those communities. We are on top of the situation.”

The Special Adviser to Osun State Governor on Security, Mrs. Abiodun Ige, refused to confirmed the arrest while speaking with our correspondent in Osogbo on Sunday.

But Ige said the state government was providing necessary support for the Nigeria Correctional Service to keep its facilities in Ilesa and Ife more save.

The spokesperson of Osun Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, however confirmed arrest of some suspected inmates in Ejigbo, but asked for more time to get other details.

The source said with the development, security along Oyo/Osun border communities, especially in Ejigbo axis had been tightened.

Also, a resident of Ejigbo, simply identified as Ademola, said residents of the town, and other adjoining communities had been put on red alert to report any suspicious movement, as security agents continue search for inmates that fled Oyo Correctional Centre that may be hiding in the area.

When contacted, the Field Commander, Osun Amotekun Corps, Amitolu Shittu, said men of the corps had been deployed to some villages at the boundary of the two states.

The chairman of Ejigbo local government, Gold Ayegbayo, in a chat, confirmed arrest of 13 inmates in Ife Odan town.

Ayegbayo, who said immediately the inmates were arrested, they were moved to Ejigbo, where police profiled them, added that after they had been screened, the inmates were transferred to State Intelligence and Criminal Investigation Department of Osun State Police Command in Osogbo.

He said, “They were 13 in number. They escaped to Ife Odan, Ejigbo West LCDA after the jail break in Oyo. The policemen were on patrol in Ife Odan town, when they saw these men, they were strange faces.

“Policemen accosted and interviewed them. They made personal confession that they were inmates that fled Oyo Correctional Facility. They were moved to Ejigbo Divisional Headquarters, where police profiled them before they were moved to SCID in Osogbo.”
