Arsenal’s Game Moved To Kiev Due To Security Concerns

Arsenal’s Europa League match against Vorskla Poltava on Thursday has been moved to Kiev, European football’s governing body UEFA has announced.

It said in a statement that this was due to security concerns following the introduction of martial law in Ukraine.

Politicians in Ukraine this week approved a proposal to introduce martial law in areas most vulnerable to an attack following the capture of three Ukrainian vessels by Russia over the weekend.

Arsenal were due to play their Group E clash with Vorskla in Poltava’s Oleksiy Butovsky Stadium.

However, UEFA said that its emergency panel met on Tuesday and decided to move the match to Kiev’s Olympic stadium.

“UEFA will continue to monitor and assess the security situation in Ukraine in the coming days before making any decision on potentially relocating other matches,” the body said in a statement.

The senator representing Kaduna Central senatorial district, Shehu Sani, who resigned his membership from the ruling All Progressives Congress has assured his supporters of contesting in the forthcoming election.

Sani who assured his supporters of not quitting politics on his Facebook page on Sunday said he would announce his new political party in two days time (Tuesday).

He said, “This is to thank all my supporters and friends for the show of solidarity and assurances of support over my decision to exit the APC.

“I assure you that in the next two days you will be informed of my new party. And be rest assured I will contest in the upcoming elections Insha Allah.”

However, it remains unclear which political party Sani would join, and which position he plans to contest.

Sani had on Saturday announced his resignation from the APC after the party put forward Uba Sani, an ally of Governor Nasir El-Rufai, as its candidate for the constituency.

Leader of the Indigenous Peoples of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu, has vowed to return to Nigeria but rejected facing trial in what he described as “a Kangaroo court.”

Kanu, in a broadcast on Radio Biafra, yesterday evening, reiterated he would come back to “Biafraland” but was silent on when he would return.

The IPOB leader, who had been missing since last year, was sighted in Israel, on Friday, praying in a Synagogue.

Video clips of that outing went viral and when its authenticity was doubted, Kanu indicated he would make a live broadcast, which he did, yesterday evening.

He said: “They wanted to intimidate us. They wanted to murder us into submission but, they failed comprehensively because we are IPOB and I am Nnamdi Kanu. No mortal flesh can kill me. They have not given birth to that very person but I shall return. I assure you.

“I said it in 2015 that I would go back to that very country and I returned. I assure you that I am coming; you’ll know that definitely. Since they didn’t want me to come to court, I will come back to Biafraland.

“They have failed and they will continue to fail. They can murder us as much as they like but, any day we decide to retaliate, the world shall bear us witness.

A man in Indian has been reported dead after a group of monkeys stoned him to death in Tikri, Uttar Pradesh.

The victim, Sharampal Singh was gathering pieces of wood at a dilapidated building before the monkeys threw bricks at him. The 72-year-old was rushed to the hospital but died from head and chest injuries.

Although no one is certain of the breed of monkeys, his family has since lodged a complaint with the Doghat police station. His brother claims that more than 20 bricks were thrown at him. “These rogue monkeys are the real culprits and must pay for it,” he added.

However, the station officer, Chitwan Singh has said it risks public embarrassment if a case is taken against the monkeys: “How can we register the case against monkeys? This will make us a laughing stock.”

The Times of India reports that locals have complained about monkeys but the monkeys are protected.

thiopian doctors extracted over a hundred iron nails and other sharp objects from the stomach of a patient in the capital Addis Ababa at the weekend.

Dawit Teare, a surgeon at St. Peter’s Specialised Hospital, said the 33-year-old patient suffers from mental illness and had apparently consumed the items, including 122 four inch (10 centimetre) nails, four pins, a toothpick and pieces of broken glass.

“The patient has been suffering from mental illness for the last 10 years and had stopped taking his medication two years ago, one probable reason he started consuming inanimate objects,” Dawit said after the two-and-a-half hour operation.

“I’m guessing he consumed the objects with the help of water, however he is a lucky person that those sharp objects didn’t cut his stomach. That could have led to serious infections and even death,” he said.

The surgeon said that while he had dealt with other cases in which people with mental illness had swallowed multiple sharp objects, he had never encountered a case on this scale.

Dawit added that the patient was recovering well.

A welder, Adebisi Kayode, has said he made about N1.2m from impersonating a police inspector.

Kayode, who was paraded by the Oyo State Police Command in Eleyele, Ibadan, was said to have defrauded his victims by telling them that he would help them to purchase auction vehicles.

The state Commissioner of Police, Abiodun Odude, who paraded Kayode and other suspected criminals, said, “This impostor, who is a welder, unlawfully obtained money worth over N2m from unsuspecting victims under the pretext of helping them to buy auction vehicles and other property from the office of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad.

“Items recovered from him are handcuffs, horsewhip, identity card, cash and four SIM cards.”

Kayode disclosed that he got the items from a friend who was a policeman.

Igbo Groups Name Okonjo-Iweala, Peter Obi, Others As Atiku’s Running Mate

Several Igbo groups have called for wider netting and shopping by the winner of the PDP Presidential ticket, Atiku Abubakar in the choice of his vice presidential candidate.

The groups are World Igbo leadership, Education and Cultural Council, Igbo Information and Communication Council, Igbo Bu Igbo Foundation, Igbo Peoples Congress and Igbo Aborigenes.

The groups listed some Igbos they want Atiku to consider to include Osadebe Ibegbu, a South Africa-based Abia professional; Chief Okey Nwagbara, an Abuja-based lawyer and quantity surveryor; Dr Greg Ibe of Gregory University, Uturu Okigwe; Mr Peter Obi; Senator Ike Ekweremadu; and Dr Ngozi Okonjo Iweala.

The groups warned against picking candidates “based on money they have or just their names and noise they make.”

The Director of Media for the Buhari Campaign Organisation, Mr. Festus Keyamo (SAN), has alleged that the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Atiku Abubakar made money through illegal means and cheating the system.

He said Atiku was running private businesses as a customs officer in contravention of public service rules.

Keyamo also claimed that Atiku’s only successful business was Integrated Logistics Services Nigeria Limited, popularly known as INTEL.

He said, “Firstly, the myth about Atiku’s business acumen is one of the biggest and fattest lies ever sold to Nigerians. He has never run a successful business.

“He only has one company, which is a cash cow through which he invests in other things and that company is known as INTELS.

“He acquired shares in INTELS in 1982 when he was still a customs officer which was in clear violation of the code of conduct for public officers where he acquired shares in a company that had something to do with the customs and government.

“The company is not run in a competitive manner but a monopolistic manner where all other persons are totally shut out. All governments in this country until now had been compromised by this company until now.”

Real Madrid’s Nacho has confessed that he would love to see Cristiano Ronaldo continue to strut his stuff at the Santiago Bernabeu.

A 25-year-old bricklayer from Ijebu-Igbo who was kidnapped in Ibadan, Oyo state, last month, has revealed how he was freed from the den of the men of the underworld.
Speaking in an interview in Lagos after he was reportedly rejected by the arrowhead of the ritual killers because of a scar on his head, he said:

“I am a bricklayer. I went to work at Ojoo in Ibadan last week Monday(10/9/2018). And on Wednesday I was still on the work plastering an ark on the building. Then a man came around and told me he liked the way I was doing the work. He later introduced himself as a civil engineer and requested for my phone number with a promise to call and give me job to do on his building contracts.

“l live in Ijebu-igbo in Ogun state. And I returned home in the week. In the following Sunday (16/9/2018), the man called me; in fact I was in the church when his call came in, telling me to come to Ibadan immediately that there was a job for me there. I told him I had no transport fare. And he said I should send my account number to him to credit it with the fare. As I did, he sent ₦2,000 to me. Just as I withdrew the money, I headed for Ibadan.

“As I got to Ibadan, I called to inform him and he told me to wait for him at Iwo road. So, I waited for him at a restaurant there. He came shortly but with one other man. They both came in a Toyota Camry car. The other man drove while the engineer seated by him in the front. They asked me to come in to the back seat of the car. And I asked them of the location of our destination. They told me that the job was somewhere immediately after Ojoo.

“Like about 5 minutes or so after I have entered with them, the man driving the car was now asking from the engineer if he’s sure that I would be able to do the job they were about giving to me. And the engineer replied him that he had seen my work before. It was at this point that the man on the steering stretched his hand to me at the back to give me a handshake. As our palms touched each other, that was the last thing I knew.”

The outgoing Governor of Ekiti State, Ayodele Fayose, has threatened to leave the Peoples Democratic Party after the National Convention held on Saturday in Port-Harcourt, Rivers State.

The governor hinted on Monday that he would renounce his “membership of the PDP anytime from now.”

He added, “After consultations, I will speak clearly to Nigerians.”

A former Vice-President, Atiku Abubakar, was declared the winner of the party’s presidential primary, defeating the Sokoto State Governor, Aminu Tambuwal, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and eight others.

According to online reports, a cow with two heads was recently spotted in a community in Gombe state.

Multiple online users took to social media to reveal their shock following viral pictures of the two-headed cattle.

One of the children of Baba Sala, Emmanuel, has said that the foremost comedian died in his sleep after taking his supper.

Emmanuel disclosed that his father, Moses Adejumo, ate his last meal at around 6pm and took a rest for a while before he went to bed and died in his sleep.

He stated that Adejumo’s youngest wife, Funmilayo, went to his room to tell him something when she discovered that Baba Sala had died.

He said, “Baba died last night. He died at 81. I was not there but his wife called the eldest son of the family immediately it happened and that one called me and narrated everything to me. His body had been taken to the mortuary. We will need to hold a meeting before we can fix anytime for his burial. Some of the children are just hearing about it this morning.

“I will miss so many things about my dad. He was a very lively person. He was always advising us even those who were not his biological children, he advised them equally. He would tell you what to do and guide you.

Liverpool have confirmed Naby Keita is ‘fine’ after leaving the pitch in Napoli on a stretcher.

The midfielder went down in the 19th minute and was seen clutching his back, before requiring immediate medical attention.

Following the high mortality rate of tobacco users in the country, the federal government said yesterday it had concluded plans to ban tobacco use in Nigeria.

The decision, it said, was part of the implementation of the Tobacco Control Act of 2015 which is the national law domesticating the World Health Organisation Framework on Tobaco Control (FCTC).

Minister of State for Health, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, made the disclosure while addressing the 8th Session of the Conference of the Parties (COP8), to the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) in Geneva, Switzerland.

He noted that through multi-sectoral engagement involving government and civil society organisations, the federal government had began mass awareness campaigns on the provisions of the National Tobacco Control Act 2015, to create the enabling environment for enforcement.

“Government had reviewed the standard for cigarettes to include the complete ban on cigarettes with characterising flavour, including menthol.

“Government of Nigeria had ratified the protocol to eliminate illicit trade in tobacco products, adding that the instrument of accession would be finalised and deposited at the United Nations Headquarters”, the minister said in a statement issued in Abuja.

Protesters Storm APC Secretariat


Angry members of the APC from the six area councils in the Federal Capital Territory stormed the party’s national secretariat on Wednesday to protest against the direct primary mode imposed on them.

The protesters demanded the reversal of the direct primary mode imposed on the FCT by the party’s NWC.

Some of the protesters displayed placards with inscriptions such as, ‘We Want Indirect Primary,’ ‘Oshiomhole Stay Clear of FCT Primary,’ and ‘Oshiomhole Destroying APC.’

On learning that there were no party executives to receive them, the crowd became unruly.

In the melee that ensued, the protesters tore down a giant billboard which had the portrait of President Muhammadu Buhari and Oshiomhole after barricading access to the party secretariat and chasing away workers and security operatives on duty.

The protesters also accused the party leadership of trying to impose candidates on them.

The Commissioner of Police in charge of the FCT, Bala Ciroma led a team of police reinforcements to calm frayed nerves.

There were indications on Wednesday that the Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, conceded victory to Babajide Sanwo-Olu, his main opponent for the All Progressives Congress governorship ticket in Lagos, to calm frayed nerves and avert impeachment.

There had been expectation that the governor would fight the declaration of Sanwo-Olu as the winner of the state’s Tuesday governorship primary, which was initially cancelled by the APC National Working Committee panel that had promised to announce a new date for the primary.

The panel made a U-turn on Wednesday to declare Sanwo-Olu the winner, sparking speculations that the governor would reject the move.

A few hours after the panel’s new decision, the governor’s media team sent a press statement that the governor would host a “world press briefing” by 2.pm, causing more speculations.

In the briefing, which eventually turned out to be a broadcast by 4pm, Ambode accepted defeat and congratulated Sanwo-Olu.

It was gathered through sources in both Ambode and Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s camps that the move was meant to remove the tension, as well as avert the impeachment move being considered by party elders.

A former governor of Cross River State Donald Duke has said he will not criminalize same-sex relationships if he becomes Nigeria’s president in 2019.

Duke, a member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party, was the governor of Cross River between 1999 and 2007.

He made the comment while appearing on On The Couch, a show hosted by Laila Johnson-Salami and Falz the Bahd Guy.

“I don’t understand their sexuality,” Duke said. “But I will not criminalise them. I will ensure that they have the protection of the law.”

He did not state how he will make the Nigerian law, which currently Nigeria criminalizes same-sex relationships, protect gays.

According to an online newspaper Information Nigeria, Engineer David Aremu Oluwafemi was accused of sexual molestation and campus extortion of male students.

The victim who is a course representative of the class, named Lasisi, the said lecturer is known for his sexual assault of only male students in the department and ensures that during exams, he searches only male students to enable him to check out their privates

Thirty-seven members of the National Youths Service Corps who had just concluded their one-year mandatory national service on Monday were involved in an auto accident along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The corpers had just left the NYSC orientation camp, Sagamu, after their Passing Out Parade and were travelling to Sango Ota when the driver of the Toyota coastal bus they were travelling in lost control and the bus crashed.

The Ogun State Sector Commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Clement Oladele, confirmed the incident.

He said out of the 37 corpers, 19 sustained varying degrees of injury, but none of them died.

Giving a breakdown of the number of the injured, he said nine were males and 10 were females.

He further said that out of the 19 corpers four of them were critically injured.

Oladele said the accident occurred during the downpour, while the driver was speeding.

Primate Elijah Ayodele of INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, Lagos, has predicted how the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP can emerge as the winner of the 2019 election.
