A randy vice principal is in hot soup after luring a 16-year- old girl to a hotel and brutally ràping her. The Police have arrested a Vice Principal in Nassarawa State, suspected of raping his female student. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that three other persons allegedly engaged in various cases of rape were also arrested by the police. Mr. Idrisu Kennedy, Police Public Relation Officer of Nassarawa State Police Command, said the vice principal allegedly raped the 16-year-old student on Dec. 13, 2016. According to the police, the man lured the girl to a hotel in Nasarawa Local Government Area of the state, where he had canal knowledge of her. The police said on Wednesday that two people “disguised as vigilantes, collected phones and raped two female students of Bingham University, Karu“ on Dec. 12, 2016. It added that another man was arrested for allegedly raping a 13-year- old hawker in an uncompleted building around Lafia roundabout Motor Park on Dec. 11, 2016 The police urged the general public, especially parents and relations of rape victims to report any case of rape to security agencies for appropriate prosecution. Reacting on the matter, Tina Cyril, Nasarawa State Chairperson of Nigeria Association of Women Journalist, described the incidences as barbaric and satanic. Cyril said that the association would monitor the cases to logical conclusion, and promised continuous advocacy on the rights of women and children in the state. She advised parents to always monitor their children especially the girl child, to guard them against any form of abuse. Some stars came into the Nigerian music scene
and like meteorite, they were up in the sky,
shining like light and having so many fans
endeared to their heats. But in 2016, it was as if their light started dwindling. When so many thought they might have been cooking something in the studio hoping such would be released before the end of the year, these stars lived on past glory while new acts sprang up and some of their contemporaries shone brighter. Omawumi Not just a few believed Omawunmi would excel going by her performance during the Idols reality show that shot her into limelight in 2007. She has cemented her name as an achiever and force to be reckoned with in the Nigerian entertainment scene. Her sophomore album, ‘Lasso of Truth,’ which was released in 2015 was said to be a commercial success. Omawumi managed to break that jinx where just male artistes had held sway in the music scene for a long time. But fast forward to 2016, not much was heard from the singer musically. Thank God for social media anyway, but for Instagram where the babe would always post one or two stuff, her presence would have dwindled considerably. Yes, she managed to release a song with Grammy Award winner, Angelique Kidjo but did it have a very positive impact in her career in 2016? No! Anyway, fans still love her and hope that not only would she change her hairstyle in 2017, she would also come up with better and bigger hits. Waje And like her bestfriend Omawumi, Waje was almost pushed to the background this year. Save for ‘The Voice Nigeria’ which kind of kept her busy as a judge in the reality show, Waje’s impact in the music scene was almost insignificant. Waje has been busier on social media than in the studio this year. Yes, fans got to know more about her grown up daughter and her cool dresses which she proudly showed off every now and then. And of course, she also proudly showed off her figure as she transformed from a plus-sized babe to a much trimmer lady. The last time Waje released her self-titled album was in May 2013. The album was critically acclaimed but ever since then, she has been releasing single tracks. This year, the music diva has been able to release only one track which she titled ‘Ominiknowest.’ It was once reported that the singer planned to take a four year break from music. So the question is, has she started the hiatus? Chidinma Chidinma ‘Miss Kedike’ Ekile is a typical example of the expression that great things come in small packages. The Project Fame winner started strong after the competition winning any award that she was nominated for. One of such milestone awards is the Kora and she was the first female musician to get to the number one spot on the MTV Base top ten countdown. With her trailblazing success, she won the admiration of many as several celebrities have openly confessed that they have a crush on the petite damsel. The girl didn’t allow her small frame to deter her from conquering the music industry. But that was long ago. This year, Chidinma was busier arousing people’s curiosity as to whether she is dating artiste, Flavour or not especially when she deleted all the pictures on her social media page save for hers and Flavour’s. It seems that the star is fast fizzling out of the industry. Not much has been heard from the singer musically this year. Her recent song, ‘Fall in Love,’ which she released some weeks ago does not have the same buzz that always characterises songs. So many fans expect Chidinma to wake up in 2017. D’banj ‘Oh, how the mighty has fallen’ would certainly be the expression on so many peoples’ minds especially when they think of the self-acclaimed entertainer and Kokomaster, D’banj. With his ‘nothing-dey-happen’ attitude since he broke up from his partner and friend Don Jazzy, D’banj has yet to make any strong impact musically. But thank God for his song ‘Emergency’ which was released early in the year, it was a good work and so many people felt D’banj had finally survived the break-up. Alas, his ‘Focus,’ ‘If no be God,’ ‘Breaking New’ and ‘Gifted’ didn’t make any impact at all. D’banj needs to step up his game in 2017, otherwise his career would land in Emergency Room! Iyanya Well, thank God for ‘Krukere,’ nobody would have known Iyanya apart from the fact that he was a sensation at the then Project Fame competition. Another thing that stood him out is his sexy body which makes ladies- old and young – go wild! But how has that affected his career in 2016? His controversial exit from Ubi Franklin’s Triple M Records made more headlines than the release of his following songs, ‘Type of woman,’ ‘Nothing Mega,’ ‘Yoga song,’ ‘Sukumma,’ ‘Why,’ and ‘Heartbeat.’ Just a handful of people would have ‘felt’ the songs. With his new marriage to Don Jazzy’s Mavin, who knows, 2017 might be a better year as hopefully, the ace producer would give Iyanya his Midas Touch. Wande Coal It seems Wande Coal found his sound late this year with the new song, ‘Iskaba,’ which he released few weeks ago. Before then, nothing much was heard from the young man. His first album, ‘Mushin to Mo’hit’ was a collector’s item but his sophomore album, ‘Wanted,’ which was released in 2015 was not really wanted by a lot of people as many have described the album as a flop. Hopefully 2017 would be better for the dreadlock wearing singer. Do you agree with this list? U

In the wake of the sex tape saga of former Miss Anambra, Chidinma Okeke, that threw several media into pandemonium, there have been worries that other pageants may not hold as much credibility as they used to. The Miss Anambra saga which Nollywood is even attempting to make into movie raised many questions about pageants in Nigeria and some enthusiastic pundits have been painting all sorts of pictures what to expect in future. Meanwhile, Potpourri talked to a former beauty queen, Ambassador Sharon Anya, Miss Tourism Nigeria 2015 and she also holds the belief that pageants may not be what they used to be. “It will certainly affect other pageants. Sharon Anya The organisers have to become more transparent, and let the criteria be properly spelt out, and being more transparent means, everybody should know why the winner won, and on the other hand, the contestants should always go for official meetings with her lawyer and manager before signing any contract”, she offered. When asked if it is true that beauty queens cut corners to win at all costs, the Mass Communications graduate of Igbinedion University said it is a possibility and maintained that it is not exclusive to pageants. “It happens in any other field. Some journalists go the extreme to get top interviews, even in churches, there are pastors that use diabolical powers to get to the top. Some athletes use drugs to get to the top, there are those that would want to do anything to get to the top of their careers, in every field. There are those that break the moral boundary in pursuit of a goal, others won’t, it’s everywhere, so it’s not peculiar to pageants only. “I don’t know her to know what went wrong, the act was wrong but the person…I can’t judge. For future pageants, have a team, have a manager and a lawyer. For me, I got into Miss Tourism Nigeria pageant for a purpose and not to be famous. My pageant is about promoting tourism , women empowerment, leadership across the country and attracting foreign investors, I focused on that, and it kept me going, I was able to stay scandal-free because I invest in myself a lot, I cultivated a life I want to enjoy in peace,” she added Source http://tunexclusive.com

By Levinus Nwabughiogu ABUJA-Presidency has said that Emir of Kanu, Lamido Sanusi was not in possession of any fact about the Central Consolidated Account domiciled in Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN and so, could not have spoken with precision on the over drawing made by government from the account. It also said that $30 billion loan which the government was seeking senate approval for was for the building of massive social infrastructure. It will be recalled had at a function in Abuja on Friday asked the federal government drop the loan idea, saying it would plunge Nigeria into unprecedented indebtedness. Sanusi Lamido Sanusi, the Emir of Kano Sanusi in his submission however advised President Muhammadu Buhari to invest more in economy and the private sector. But responding through the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Mallam Garba Shehu, the presidency admitted that the federal government had made withdrawals from the account but not the volume of N4.5 trillion as Sanusi alleged. “With every respect to the Emir, you know he is my ruler, because I come from Kano. “He doesn’t have his facts as far as those issues are concerned. The issue in CBN, that government has overdrawn its Central Consolidated Account is true, but the overdrawing is within limits. “The overdraw does not exceed 1.5 trillion. It is incorrect to say, as he did that the account was overdrawn by 4.5 trillion. “But even assuming that he was correct, this is a government that has money in excess the amount he mentioned in the Treasury Single Account, TSA. It is just like you, a bank customer operating two accounts, one in the red and the other, well funded to the point that it can at any time wipe the indebtedness on the other. Would any bank manager lose their sleep over this? “This, I am told is what the IMF found at the CBN and they said it is perfectly normal. “As for his opposition to the USD 30 billion loan, I am aware that the Minister of Finance is responding to that. “As a private citizen, I want to read his statement again. I thought that the borrowing is for projects that include the railway and electricity development in the country”, Shehu said. Source http://tunexclusive.com

BAYO AKINLOYE A United States-based group, Nigerian American Foundation, on Saturday, expressed concerns over possible racist attacks against Nigerians living in the US. According to the group, there is an increase in attacks against Muslims, Blacks, Jews and Hispanics, since Donald Trump emerged as US’ president-elect. “We are concerned that some White working class citizens have been made to believe that immigrants are taking their jobs and Nigerians happen to be the most educated immigrant community in the United States. “We hope the President-elect will put out the fire he stoked with his incendiary rhetoric during the campaigns by now assuring all segments of the society that the United States’ values of inclusion, multiculturalism, liberty, justice and freedom for everyone have not become extinct with his impending ascension to the Presidency,” NAF President, Dr. Yinka Tella, told SUNDAY PUNCH . Tella stated that the concerns were legitimate, based on the way Trump conducted his electioneering by appealing to White Americans’ racist disposition. According to him, Nigerians living in the US may face a more difficult future with Trump’s emergence as president. “Nigerians in the United States have always had very limited economic opportunities due to in-built racism within the society. That is why most Nigerians, regardless of qualifications or background, can be found mostly working as cab drivers, nurses, teachers, medical doctors and pharmacists, which are areas where there is a shortage of manpower. “The rule of the thumb is that we have to work twice as hard as our peers to be successful. This is not going to change with Mr. Trump as President except the forces of racism have been emboldened. Nigerian legal immigrants will likely find it even tougher to integrate into the society while fewer people will be able to overstay their visas with impunity,” the NAF president pointed out. He, however, said he did not think there would be a mass exodus of Nigerians from the US. Source http,://tunexclusive.com |

By Udeme Clement The House of Representatives Committee on Maritime Safety, Education and Administration has resolved to support the rebuilding efforts of Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA) in its quest to reposition, reform and restructure the agency for the benefit of the nation’s economy. The committee challenged NIMASA’s management on 90 percent implementation of its budget, calling on the management to spend funds appropriated to it, according to the provisions of the law, so that the value of the projects can be realised. The Chairman of the Committee, Mohammed Umar Bago said this when he led other members of his committee on oversight visit to the agency, assuring the unflinching support of members to enable the agency deliver on its mandate, in ensuring the growth of the maritime sector, especially now that the economy is in a recession. The Committee Chairman called on the management to see their visit as a wakeup call, noting that “in the 8th Assembly, the legislative agenda is the same. “All of us apply the same approach now in trying to bring out the best in our parastatals. We should not be seen as vindictive or punitive but as partners in progress”, he said. In his remakrs, the Director General of NIMASA, Dr. Dakuku Peterside assured the Committee of the agency’s readiness to cooperate with it in the interest of the maritime industry and the country as a whole. “When you are given an assignment, you are expected to be accountable. You are expected to conduct the assignment in a transparent manner. The oversight function is part of accountability. The National Assembly appropriates for us, so we are expected to be accountable. And so we have given account of our stewardship”, he said. The NIMASA’s boss assured the Committee that there would be a significant improvement in the operations of the agency, even as he welcomed the call for a synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government for the benefit of Nigerians. He said, “The beauty of democracy is collaboration, synergy between the executive and the legislative arms of government. We are all working for a single purpose to help Nigerians. We are working to help the people to ensure that life is better for all. No single arm of government can do it alone, we must work in a collaborative manner”. Source http://tunexclusive.com |

– Lagos is set to benefit from its recognition as an oil producing state – The state will receive its 13 per cent derivation which is giving to oil states – Governor Akinwunmi Abbode said it will soon be the oil and gas hub of the nation Lagos state is expected to become richer than it is as it gets its first 13 per cent oil derivation fund from the federal government in December. The Punch reports that this was disclosed by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the annual international conference and exhibition of the Nigerian Association of Petroleum Explorationists on Tuesday, November 15. Source http://tunexclusive.com in Lagos, approves 4 for the state Lagos was officially declared an oil-producing state when Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited commenced crude oil production on the Aje field. Governor Akinwunmi Ambode The fund Lagos will be receiving is in accordance to the entitlement of oil-producing state as they receive 13 per cent derivation from the federation account. Mr. Wale Olowu who represented the governor at the event said after the state’s exportation of oil, it will receive its due in December. “I am pleased to announce that the first export from the Aje oil field has happened. That is not the big deal; the big deal is that Lagos State is anxiously awaiting its first derivation in December. So, in December, we will be collecting our first derivation. “We cannot wait to see a lot of oil and gas come under the soil of Lagos because it will help us in the area of employment; it will help us in the area of electricity generation, which we want to do off-grid anyway, and it will also help us in making sure that our revenue continues to be diversified.” The governor said there was plan to make the state the oil and gas hub of the nation. “We reassure all of you stakeholders in the industry of our commitment to provide a safe and secure environment for exploration activities that is consistent with global best practice.” The state was also closely monitoring and“getting ready to massively support other Oil Prospecting Licences in Lagos to make sure they can quickly transform to Oil Mining Leases”. Source http://tunexclusive.com “We also want the development of the oil and gas industry in Lagos. We didn’t plan it originally. But now that we are seeing the evolution, we are doing everything possible to bring them together because on our west coast, we have found oil. “On the east coast, we already have Dangote refinery that is the largest in Africa and one of the largest in the world, and then in our centrals, we have the banks that can finance, the oil tank farms and then we have the seaport for export.” This new income for Lagos is expected to make the state richer as its monthly internally-generated revenue is more than 32 Nigerian state combined and its 15 per cent higher than its federal allocation

Dangote Group of Companies has dismissed as untrue the widely held notion that the company was on the verge of investing in English Premier League side, Arsenal FC. The Executive Director, Stakeholders Management and Corporate Communicatio ns, Dangote Group of Companies, Engr. Mansur Ahmed, during a media parley held in Kano said, the initiative to invest in Arsenal was not a business decision of the group. According to him, the interest to invest in the North London club was a personal decision and not in the interest of Aliko Dangote, who held sway as the Chairman, Dangote Group of Companies. Also, Mansur added that Aliko Dangote is a die-hard Arsenal fan, stressing that the intent is to invest in the club must have been influenced by his love for the Emirates lads. He said that the Board of Directors of the conglomerate had never expressed any interest in buying Arsenal, stating that, the interest in the club is by no means connected to his business. He pointed out that, when the news over Dangote’s interest was unfolded, many queried the personal decision of the business tycoon, “If he chooses to buy Enugu Rangers, people will say, why not Kano Pillars” he concluded.
