Dementia can make you say things that have no basis with reality because the individual is no longer fully in control of his thought processes. If you go to a mental hospital and see aged patients at the later stages of this condition, you'll see that sometimes they cannot even recall their own names or the faces of their blood relatives. Just like every other part of our body, the brain also can get sick sometimes, just as organs like appendix, or heart or kidney can fail, the brain can degenerate too.

I am saying when you are in this condition, you loose your ability to recall things and acquire an over-active imagination. Pray it doesn't happen to you and you find your self saying funny things as well. In a normal society the family members will be available to care for their grand uncles/relatives when they fall into the hands of illnesses such as this. They say things like "Grand Uncle its ok, I am here, there is no river here, you are in the hospital, you will be fine". Instead of taking every word he mutters as fact and acting on what can only be described as an overactive imagination.

I once lost a brother,months later my grandpa's brother confessed to killing him.As if that wasn't enough,he also said he was behind a car accident in which we almost lost our lives. At that time,my dad was also facing some financial problems,he was fed up with life,this old-man confessed he was behind it . . . . Just pray pray pray that one day, when you get old and frail someone in your family doesn't tag you as a witch/wizard. Just remember this day in 2016 when you called your aged grand uncle a wizard. Have you heard of dementia before? Please read up on it. Older people are usually victims. My bro, pray you are not a victim of dementia when you are old. Because it is then people will start to call you wizard. People with Dementia loose parts of their memory and this progressively gets worse. It is not unsual for patients to make fictitious claims as the ones you noted.

Today is 15th Dec. 2016. I hope you will recall this day, when you yourself gets old, may be you hit 77 years. White hair, white beards, a walking stick, glasses to aid the eyes, then add this to grand children who have been unable to get jobs or sustain a viable business who then tag you as a wizard that is responsible for all their failings.

Pray pray pray that someone else in your family doesn't point at you as the cause of all their woes.

If you have any more aged grand parents/uncles/relatives alive today, you should show them love. Call them and spend time with them. Do not call them witches, how would you feel if the tables where turned when you hit 77?

I have exactly 6 months starting January to improve my yoruba speaking skills. This is a personal goal I have set for myself. I find it quite ridiculous that I am yet to speak yourba fluently having spent the bulk of my adult life in Lagos. Is there anyone here who has successfully self-studied the language? The insane men who founded atheism also have the greatest influence on Psychology and Psychiatry, Charles Darwin, Sigmund Freud, Thomas Henry Huxley and Nietzsche all shared certain common experiences and a definite psychological pattern is evident. Charles Darwin – he lived the greatest portion of his life in deep depression, there is a history of mental illness in his family. He believed his dad had the power of prediction; He had an endless catalogue of psychosomatic illnesses and lived as a semi invalid barely past thirty.

Thomas Henry Huxley- he detested his hot tempered father he suffered terrible bullying at school and had a terrible fear of insanity, which ran in his family. In fact his father died in an insane asylum. His hatred of God was rooted in the fear that the insanity in his family was caused by unclean spirits. He believed he had been poisoned by vapours from a dead body. After his only son dies of scarlet fever he detested God and believed he was cruel, hostile, angry and indifferent to suffering.

Nietzsche – Grew up with no male role model, he was a repressed homosexual and a victim of syphilis, depression and senility. He blamed his mom for the death of his father.

Sigmund Freud – he believed a female is a failed boy and he was obsessed with the incestuous conquest of his mother and rivalry with his dad. The desire to have sex with his mother and kill his father haunted his dreams. He believed women wanted sex with there fathers and stories of rape and molestation were fantasies. Instead of victims these women were villains.

These four prophets of atheism and many more all had powerful domineering fathers. They were fearful, weak, submissive kids. They all grew up with a history of headaches, depression , obsessive fears, extreme shyness, intestinal disorders, and made it there lives work to destroy God who had come to symbolize there fathers.

When I was a Christian, trust me, you didn't "know christ" more than I did, I preached, ate and slept with prayer.. It got to a point where everyone was calling me pastor /rev fr.
I "believed" I spoke with God, there was this Time my aunt was being operated on.. I locked the doors, I prayed till an extent I was drowning in my own sweat and tears, unknowingly for me that they were banging the door for me to open, "when I came back from the spirit", I quickly heard loud knocks on the door when I opened, my sister was like "I've been knocking for up to an hour now".. Anyway, fast forward, my aunt had a successful operation and I believed it was "God" who answered my prayers..

Fast forward.. I started getting into the Bible more and more, I started seeing life from a reasonable perspective, I then discovered that religion was a scam! God in fact doesn't exist, even if he does, he is not the monster portrayed in the Bible.. . Gbam, I told everyone I didn't believe in God..

My mum was heartbroken, she was shocked, all my sis were like "if there is no God, where do you get money from" (I fucking work for money!).. All my relatives didn't believe it..

My course mates were like, "I know you are just joking, because you can't mean it".. not knowing I mean everything I say!

The Bible is there, read it with sense!! ! And you will understand!

This is similar to what happened to me. The day you drop hypocrisy and begin to dig deeper and deeper into the faith, the day you start reading the Bible with more depth, trying to live right and relinquish falsehood, that is when your veil will be unveiled. It's amazing!

I love your icecream challenge at the end. It's very true. The brain is a pattern-seeking machine, in psychology it's called "top down processing", looking at your surroundings & experiences through the lense of whatever is already in your mind. We all do it. What you feed your senses, your brain will automatically seek out more of.

Since superstition is feeding the minds of many Nigerians still, it's no wonder that witch accusations and "encounters" are still happening :/ Thankfully enlightened individuals like yourself are breaking out of that mind trap, seeing the situation for what it is, and turning to appropriate psychiatric assistance rather than harmful superstitious answers.

I think with time, we as Africans shall evolve and outgrow this medieval mindset.

Oh dear, I just pray all those calling this old woman a witch don't end up being tagged one when they get old themselves. This might be Dementia. I fear that religion has seared the conscience of many. This woman is almost a century old. She is frail and needs tender loving care, not being abandoned by her people who call her Witch.

This is the story of the human race when push comes to shove and the power of healing medication brings.

The whole concept of Witchery* is well known in Psychiatry and official diagnoses vary between a range of mental illnesses. Come to the Federal Psychiatric Hospital in Yaba and see numerous witches in action. I was one of them. Before I got treatment.

You see there is something called psychosis or delusions of reference, which is what happens to the best of us when we have so called supernatural experiences. I’ve been there. It all starts and ends with the mind and all stems from a place of intense fear that causes the brain’s neurotransmitters to misfire. You see, the reason why the story of witches and what not continue to be passed on from generation to generation is that it is realer than real to the patient, I.e the Witch. All what I saw when I was experiencing delusions where real TO ME…but me alone. I had convinced my mind to believe these things. Fear and belief in Witches = delusions. In the western world witches and demons are replaced with aliens. Patients are convinced aliens are after them.

Look the mind is powerful, I mean extremely powerful, with intense focus, fear and intent, you can create. We are all creators of our reality. This is why atheists can never see or experience witch craft. What happens in these states is that you have succeeded in convincing your brain and mind about the existence of certain entities.

Fear + insomnia = Delusions/psychosis aka Witch Craft
Stress + insomnia + hunger= Delusions/psychosis aka Witch Craft
Intense Religious beliefs = Acute delirium/Delusions/psychosis aka Witch craft

But thank God for our doctors and scientist they have studied the human brain and understand to a large extent how it works. I was medicated for a few months combined with talk therapy and basically became anew. Mehn I thank the heavens for my family that got me the needed care.

Many people seeking deliverance need to visit the Psychiatric hospital, its cheap and the doctors there have seen it all, they would care for you and treat your symptoms, but you have to be willing.

Please if you have any friends or relatives seeking deliverance from demons or witches with unexplained or “supernatural” causes, please see a psychiatrist.

A little test you can attempt. Spend the next 24 hours thinking about a particular subject, focus with all your might, it can be something as flimsy as ice cream. Read up on it, immerse yourself in all things ice-cream, sing ice cream songs, do you know what happens? When you turn on the TV, you start to notice all the ice-creams, you start seeing ice-creams everywhere, suddenly all the magazines and newspapers are covering news about ice creams, this is what happens in reality when the mind is affixed on a given subject. Its beyond fascinating, you can give it a go. It is not any different with the concept of Witchery.

This post from LeoVirgo was a starting point in my transition. I enjoyed her point of view on the subject of anarchy in the bible. This post in particular caught my attention and led me to review my approach to studying the word. This is an excerpt of her response on the subject of contradictions in the Bible, I saved it on my phone and refer to it all the time:

The Bible, is meant to be the way it is. In the sense that it offers two natures...one of Earth, of flesh...and one of Spirit, of God. Its not meant to be a book that lays all the answers in the lap. It is meant to be a book that will reflect the inner nature of each person.

If the people choose to accept the jealous wrathful God. This shows where they are it in growth and understanding. It is a marker. If people choose to seek further, seek within, and discern all things through the Holy Spirit, they will see the wheat and the tares are both within the book, they will see things of Earthly wisdom's (jealousy, pride, greed, and lust) are there, they will see things of Spiritual wisdom (unconditional love, compassion, understanding, and forgiveness) are there.

Every religion has both. Its meant to be this way. The Spirits true wisdom is within the blueprint of the Universe and this very Earth...the life of he Spirit runs through all things of life itself, and therein is spiritual wisdom's. They have always been here for those that seek. Never hidden, never kept secret, if you seek to be guided by the Spirits, you will be shown.

Just as though its not meant to be to bring others to God through fear....its also not meant to be to drive others away from their beliefs through fear. Fear is not a way, for truth of any kind. Only, understanding, can get you there.

The Bible is meant to be what it is. It offers both natures we are of....of flesh and of Spirit. It is up to us to discern between the two and decide which one we will live for.

You are accepting too much truth about Yahweh...the Serpent...the Devil. It is more allegory, about our Earthly nature, which is jealous, which is greedy, which is prideful, which is lustful. To accept that God is those things...is a marker for those not discerning between what is Holy and Divine and what is not Holy and Divine.

To say there is a Devil, a enemy of God.....is no better then what the religions teach of. God does not boast, is not jealous, is not prideful, and there is nothing that is a threat to Thee.

The plan is perfect, there have been no mistakes or errors. There are many markers for man....and these are used to show ourselves, when we must look through the Divine Eye after death, what our inner nature is and what it needs to become. We all relearn, we reap what we sow, it is a cycle and a order.

There will be destruction and chaos...for those that believe in the Earthly wisdoms are creating with their very thoughts. We will have war, there will be catalysts...but this must happen, for we must learn how powerful our thoughts (beliefs) are. For us to find the path that is...we must as a unit, walk the paths that are not. Both, the path that is, and the path that is not...are within the book and both are meant to be there.

The Spirit that has offered life to the Earth is the same Spirit that has offered us the experience of 'life'.

I have been a Christian all my life but fortunately or unfortunately in November 2015, I decided to get more serious with my relationship with Christ. I immersed myself in all things of Christ. Fasting during the day and only listening to my bible app on long journeys to and fro my workplace. During breaks at work, I'd run to the bathroom, get on my knees with my hands sometimes in the air, praying, praying and praying. Praying to turn a new leaf, praying for insight and guidance in this new path, praying for forgiveness, praying to receive the Holy Spirit, praying to be heard, praying to transition to a true child of God a disciple of Christ.

Let me tell you what happened to me. I started to uncover codes in the Bible. I realized the Old Testament was an allegory of the New Testament. A lot of revelations about Christ being the messiah was deeply coded in the Old Testament. I downloaded several versions and translations of the Bible for deeper understanding of the word. If you read carefully, Moses parting of the sea was done using the sign of the cross, the blood marks on the entrance of the homes of the Jews in Exodus was also done using the cross sign. So many subtle revelations of Christ is deeply encoded in so many parts of the Old Testament. But they come allegorized. The book of Revelations I realized is a summary of all the major stories of the Bible spanning both Old and New Testament and is basically the story of the elect and the elect only. The beatitudes are to the elect of God and them only. A lot of Solomon and other prophets’ soliloquies were in reference to the burdens, pains and sorrows of the elect whom will be appointed to serve Christ selflessly and completely, as the journey is not likely to be a bed of roses. Paul spoke more about this group of disciples.

These revelations continued, until one day on my way home listening to Paul as usual, I heard a statement in the book of Hebrews about the repercussions of receiving the Holy Spirit and then going back to sin. Those words from Paul resonated so well with me and It was clear that I had received some kind of clarity, guidance particularly with uncovering truths in the Bible.
It meant that If I slipped, just a pinch, I was doomed. I panicked because at the time I believed I had been living what I can only describe as a purist but not perfectly, I couldn't guarantee I would be in this repentant state forever, at all times. It hit me, then fear started to creep in.
What followed were a series of fearful and sleepless nights. I lost a ton of weight but continued to hold on to the Word but this time in great fear.

Eventually I had had enough. Fear I figured is the great energy driving this force, it is the overriding fuel of the religious path. Without it the religion can't stand. So I quit. Quitting was certainly not a walk in the park. Then the veil was unveiled!

You see once you get to this stage in your journey either of two things happen. You become psychotic and start believing witches or the devil or some relative is out to get you. Either that or you start to see the cheer evil in the acts penned in the "holy book". The goriness of the blood which you supposedly soak yourself in for safety, the tribalism and racism purported by a particular sect, the hot hell fire etc these are not acts of a God ingrained in Love. I attained freedom at last.

I now follow the “religion” of love your neighbor as yourself, empathy and compassion for all. The religion of pointing out the ills and sins of others is one of pure hypocrisy. The day you realize you are not any different from the so called sinners (gays, prostitutes, bobrisky) you berate and condemn to hell, that is the day your veil would be removed. You don't even have to denounce any religion, just try love and abore judgements.

One last thing I learnt is as long as you live under the laws of this planet, be careful as what you wish for others, you have unknowingly wished for yourself. If you wish hell and misery for others, you unknowingly get hell and misery yourself. If you wish love and health to your fellow man, the universe rewards you same.

I guess this is a rebound from the "Cant marry a guy who earns N50,000" thread. It really hurts doesn't it? I've realized that guys who have absolutely, I mean zilch, zero chances with exceptional women in real life, always use this marriage subject to massage their overtly sensitive egos. Grading single women by age and hampering on how sad they are gives your ego a little relief, for once in your life you feel in charge. We can easily spot the weaklings because they obsess about single ladies.

Advice to striking women, please do not be perturbed by posts like this. The gentle man who posted this is a known wanke.r, by wanke.r I mean chronic masturbato.r, he is a sex addict, with a wife who literally threw him out.

Loosers like this get really pissed on sighting strong beautiful women who have re-prioritized their life goals, because it tends to remind them of their own failures and magnify their undignified lives. If this is the kind of speech you read to your self to help you sleep well at night, then carry on brother. It's sure better than suicide.
