The volume of transaction of Transcorps have been tantalizing of recent. I'm amazed that despite the downturn in the market, high daily deals still continues on this stock.
Do you still need anyone to warn or inform you that this is the right time to enlist with the foresighted youths who want to grab their share of Nigeria's telecom and power sector future which Transcorps represents?

Kennedy,
many factors interplay here. Aside from the forces of demand and supply, investors' confidence also count. Smart investors tend to position themselves when the last quarter results are released. This push the price a little bit up.
The price movements and its rate of movement at close of register depend on the dividend and bonus declared. Expect a sharp price movement and rush when the bonus issue is fantastic with a good dividend to go along with it. Remember First bank in 2007.
You can decide to position yourself by the last quarter in march or wait for the goodies and declaration of bonus.
If the bonus is below what investors expect, know that the price may not appreciate.
This happened in the case of UBA in 2007 when only dividend was declared though investors expected a bonus issue. Find out more on Nigerian stock market secrets in this website  for more insight

Investment is a risk meant only for the rich.  The poor wil always get poorer because they can't match the rich in terms of insider information. That's why they form the majority of speculators who fall to the gimmick of the rich.  The rich (investors) buy more when the market is down and sell when the market is upbeat. The opposite is true for the poor.
They dispose their wealth when they should have kept it. Real and Great wealth is really changing hands as the poor are dumping their future fortunes for rich who are well oiled in the business of manipulating events and the media. We are now experiencing the power of FEAR as a major determinant factor of where the market swings.
My advice is that any serious mind should adopt the attitude of Warren Buffet and invest like him at this period.
Stock investment wins all the time over long term. Let it crash. The law of cycles will ensure that it rises again.
Position yourself for potentially profitable listings showing up at the market this season.

Why i'm so passionate about this Transcorps thing is the opportunity it presents to Nigerian youths (not oldies) to leverage on its start up goodwill to become really rich in not too distant future.
The popular adage which says ' the early bird catches the worm' will hold for wise Nigerian youths who ignore the pavassive disregard for this 'gold mine' to climb the ladder of wealth. There is no easier way to enter than now so cheaply.

Hey samguru,
your post is highly thought provoking. You have just stated some facts that are hidden to most people. Transcorps investment in agriculture, oil, power is strategic. Warren Buffet was he who said investors should look at what companies sell before investing in it and thats why he has been so successful. Would food continue to sell in Nigeria in the nearest future? What is the future of cassava investment in Nigeria? What about oil, it is certainly the mainstay of our economy. The current power crisis is a nightmare. Would Nigerians be ready to pay anything to get their homes and industries powered if any company provides it? Ask MTN. (although it has refused to bring its stock to the NSE). Those are the reasons behind Transcorps' business.
Nigerians spend more talking than eating. That is a food for thought to Nigerian youths on the future of Transcorps who is gradually repositioning NITEL for the market place. It smells good.Another example i want to post is that of the Late Chief Asalu. He was motivated to start investing in shares by the patriotism and jest of his economy teacher who told him Nigeria's economy and that of Africa cannot develop because we do not invest. If we want to build our economy and make it strong, Transcorps has given us that opportunity to tell the world what Nigeria can do. Transcorps is a global Nigerian brand. Investing in it today definitely guarantees a financially free future. Nigerian youths should not be speculators. we must learn to be investors.
Let's mobilise ourselves to buy into Transcorps while it is still ridiculously cheap. See AP is already out of the reach of small scale investors. We must own Transcorps and beat the politicians to it. This is a good way to define our own VISION 2020.

Nairalanders,
hope i'm not being hysteric about this transcorps of a thing and what it is doing with NITEL. Suddenly, government has started singing a new song. Transcorps has began transforming NITEL. 2 months salaries arears of workers paid within 8 weeks of taking full control. Sure the intrinsic value will begin to show up very soon. Only the rich take risks which the poor never takes. Oh Nigerian youth where are you and what are you doing with this 'bride' or sorry, cashcow?
Jobs/Vacancies / Re: What Jobs Can I Get With My 3rd Class Degree In Accounting? by benard08(m): 3:06pm On Aug 13, 2008
Darewonbil,
you are not at any 'disadvantage' because of your 3rd Class degree. It is unfortunate that Nigeria lays more emphasy on 'degree' and NOT innate ability or talent. From your posting, i perceive you are an ambitious and bright fellow. You are not the first 3rd class graduate that will emerge from this part of the world. You have some ingenuinety which the Nigerians school system does not appreciate. It could be one of the reasons why you came out with 3rd class. The Nigerian school system did the same thing to Professor Wole Shoyinka. They gave him 3rd class but he went ahead to nurture his Innate passion and Interest in creative writing. That creativity was condenmed by his Lecturers at U.I. but the same creativity of his landed him in the club on Nobel Laurete holders since 1986. The first in Africa.
Ubong Essien is another model i want to share with you who came out with a 3rd class degree at Unilorin. No one employed him of course because you will never find any advert which list 3rd class degree as qualification for employment. He abandoned his certificate and followed his Interest And Passion. The result? He is currently Nigeria's number 1 motivational speaker well sought for by banks and other blue chip companies in Nigeria to help motivate their workers for increased productivity at work place. He is also a successful publisher who runs the Achievers Mannual since 2002. Six years down the road, he is today many times richer than those 1st class and 2nd class graduates working for the companies that rejected his certificate. To cap it up. He currently runs the academy for motivational speakers in Lagos Nigeria. The first of its kind in Africa.
I have gone this far to reveal to you the hidden potential in you which you are not seeing now. Follow your passion and interest. Create a world for yourself and start to live in it.
I will be ready to share more with you on the secret weapon used by Ubong Essien to turn his limitation into Luxury and made himself a young millionaire in Nigeria without working for anybody. You can post your mailing address for further contact with me if you are interested in this information.
You are destined for greatness.

The virus of globalisation has caught up with us in Nigeria. Most organisations no longer employ based on basic degree OR Qualification alone. Passion and Interest is now mounting the centre stage in the game of employment opportunities.
We have more than 140 companies in our database with employment opportunities.
You can post your Interest , Passion and email address in this thread if you are interested in benefitting from the offer.

Transcorps just named Tom Iseghohi its CEO as the new chairman of NITEL Board. It is a good sign that restructuring is going on in Transcorps. Apart from the collaborative effort the company is undertaking with the Federal Government to get a new core investor for NITEL, this first indigenous conglomerate has taken another decisive and revolutionary step by appointing a new MD/CEO for NITEL.
The new MD is Mr. Kevin Caruso a former executive of United States Telecoms giant AT &T.
This news should delight investors who have stayed glued to their holding in Transcorps shares despite the negative news making the rounds and the current bearish market.
There is something good in a company constantly attracting direct foreign investment and expatriates. Signs are now rife that NITEL will soon begin to live to its truly national status as a telecoms service provider.
This stock smells good. Smart investors know what to do and are currently positioning themselves while the gross undervaluation of this stock subsist.

thanks for your post quansimodo.
Your post set me on the thinking path and put me to work on geting any information on the queries you raised.
Here are what i have got so far:

'Where Are Its Reports So Far'?
I have not been able to lay my hands on any.

'There are no short, medium, long term plans available to the public'I have been able to get some information of Transcorps short term, mid term and long term goals and business strategies which i think will benefit the public through this thread as follows:

Short Term Strategy

The target acquisitions are all aimed at putting the group in a strong position to become a major player in the Nigerian economy in the shortest posible time. The following have been achieved:
1. Acquisition of Nicon Hilton now renamed Transcoprs Hilton which has just been funded by Hilton Group of companies to build 10 Transcorps Hilton Hotels across Nigeria and Africa in the next 10 years. Can a non performing company have access to such funding?

2. Successful acquisition of Nitel/Mtel ; Transcorps is presently the majority holder of Nitel with 51% equity and with the option of acquiring 24% more.  This is the subsisting award contract with government irrespective of the current move to get another majority investor. Transcorps still calls the shot in Nitel. Let's think about the recent activities in Nitel e.g. award of $100 million turn around facility, change of Nitel management-exit of Chief Ferdinand Alabraba and the appointment of Tom Isegohi as New Chairman of Nitel Board etc. Can these events have any positive impact on Nitel Performance?

3. Acquisition of two oil blocks in May 2006. Transcorps has deliberately played down its interest in oil prospecting to surprise its shareholders.

Mid Term Strategy
The mid term goals of Transcorps are focused on consolidating earlier successful acquisitions as well as establishing and or investing in other greenfield businesses.
Ventures in Oil and Gas, especially in the upstream business will be enhanced in the mid term with Transcorps building strategic partnerships with operating Oil and Gas majors. In this phase, Transcopr will expand into the Oil and Gas service business, providing industry inputs such as pipes, fabrication plants, chemicals, and vessels.
A technology village will be built to boost investment in information and communication technology by providing call centers and outsourcing sites which will serve the nation as a n off-shoring destination.
Transcorps will also invest substantially in th eAgro-allied industry, leveraging on import substituion as well as bio-fuels to become a major producer and exporter of processed agricultural products.

Long Term StrategyIn the long term, Transcorps will aim to have its units and subsidiaries operating in different countries, not just in Africa but around the world.
It is worthy of note that Transcorps aims to achieve its goals through its subsidiaries-Transcorps properties Ltd, Transcorps Trading and Logistics Services Ltd and Transcorps Telecoms Ltd.
quansimodo, please note that the pubilc have been focusing on only one subsidiary till date i.e. Transcorps telecoms Ltd and ignoring what is going on in other subsidiaries.

Transcorps Company Vision1. In the short term (2006-2007), a platform for growth and industry dominance will be developed through major acquisitions and key strategic agreements within th eprivate and public sectors. The short-term focus is on asset acquisition, gaining key stakeholders commitment, and laying the foundation for emerging business in all target sectors.

2. The mid term (2008-2011) strategy
will focus on rapid restructuring/repositioning of acquisitions whilst fully implementing additional greenfield ideas earlier initiated.

3. In the long-term, the Group will shift focus to portfolio management, mobilizing a proportionately higher share of resources into high-value knowledge-intensive industries within the sub-Saharan African economy and the world at large.

quansimodo, let us now ask ourselves these questions;
Is there any indication that Transcorps is doing well when assessed on the basis of the set goals above?
Are current events in the company comparable to the experience of start up companies in its mold historically?
When a start up company keep on attracting foreign investors what does that indicate for astute investors?

Can a non performing company attract such huge funding as Trancorps is currently having?Transcorps is reported to be the foremost employer of Nigerian professionals in the diaspora today. What is the implication of this human capital bank to the fortune of the company and how can it add value to shareholders.?

For months now, the shares of Transcorps has consistently been on bid at the stock exchange.  What is the implication of this phenomenon? Would the share not soon become scarce?

Thoughtful anwers to these queries will help the investing public to take informed decisions as par investing in Transcorps.

More rejoinders needed by others in the house.

Hello all,
I'm back on this thread. Two recent events suggests that Transcorps is a viable invesment anytime, anyday. The first was the billion dollars agreement signed with Hilton International Hotels to build 10 Transcorps Hilton hotels in Nigeria and Africa. The second is the 100 million dollars facility for the Resurcitation of Nitel to make it more attractive for new core investor.
Now that foreign investors are falling over themselves to have a piece of the cake, what excuse will the nigerian youth have not to buy into this Nigerian International Brand for future financial freedom?
I read in a publication recently how nigerians spurned First Bank when it was commercialised by the Babangida regime and sold at N2 public offer price in 1992. Those who risked to buy that stock then have made millions over and over before the bank became a blue chip stock.
Is the same thing not going to repeat itself with this 'rejected' Transcorps?
Please share your thoughts with the house.

I have read in several pubications how Transcorps can replicate what Nokia has done to make a country like Finland to have international impact through its phone-Nokia. Literacy level in Finland is 100%. Experts believe it is as a result of the huge income Nokia has generated for that country.
Some Nigerians believe that Transcorps is the International brand this country needs to propel its latent potentials and bring prosperity to her people. The question is can Transcorps really have any impact on the future financial fortune of the Nigerian youth ready to stick out their neck for this company on the stock market?
Business / Great Investment Mistakes And How To Avoid Them by benard08(m): 10:42am On Jul 09, 2008
Hi everyone,
New on the forum and have greatly enjoyed the topics initiated by experts in the house and contributions of others. Names like seun, frankiri, MT needs be mentioned among many others. You all have been wonderful.
From the topics and responses in the posts so far placed, i have observed that experts warn new comers to the stock market and experienced ones to be cautious before taking invesment decisions. To me it means experts in the house must have made some mistakes in the past or have seen people who burn their fingers through ignorance or for other reasons.
I want you experts there to share with nairanlanders your greatest investment mistake(s) and how to avoid them.  They say experience is the best teacher. I believe this thread will help to further make us wiser as investors in the Nigerian stock market.
Over to you brokers, analysts and investors in the house
