Asking as a layman. Since Nigeria is owing a lot of debts, why can't the CBN just mint out money to pay off the debts? I actually don't know how it really works, so I need answers |
Several dams across the country's largest fresh water lake, Poyang, have burst, with the lake reaching record water levels, according to data from China's National Weather Satellite Centre. Earlier this week, the authorities said 33 rivers had reached record highs, while downpours are continuing to batter regions along the Yangtze River. On Wednesday, the Ministry of Water Resources said the water level of main streams in the middle and lower reaches of the Yangtze river, Dongting lake and Poyang lake was gradually falling. However, the water level of 98 rivers nationwide is still at an alarming level, according to the ministry, which maintains a level-three emergency flood response. Some buildings could be seen collapsed into the water. 140 people are reported to have died and millions have been evacuated. Thousands of soldiers have also been dispatched to shore up the lake's banks in Lushan.

Google has launched a hieroglyphics translator that uses machine learning to decode ancient Egyptian language. The feature has been added to its Arts & Culture app. It also allows users to translate their own words and emojis into shareable hieroglyphs. Google says Fabricius is the first such tool to be trained via machine learning "to make sense of what a hieroglyph is". In theory, it should improve over time as more people use it. 'Grand claims' A desktop version of Fabricius is also being offered to professional Egyptologists, anthropologists and historians, to support their research. One expert welcomed the initiative but said its "grand claims" needed to be viewed in context. "While impressive, it is not yet at the point where it replaces the need for a highly trained expert in reading ancient inscriptions," said Dr Roland Enmarch, a senior lecturer in Egyptology, at the University of Liverpool. "There remain some very big obstacles to reading hieroglyphs, because they are handcrafted and vary enormously over time in level of pictorial detail and between individual carvers/painters. "Still, this is a step on the road." Decipher findings The software's Workbench tool allows the user to upload photos of real hieroglyphs found on artefacts and digitally enhance the images to better analyse the symbols. Users can trace the outlines of hieroglyphics, which the software then tries to match up with similar symbols in its database - allowing them to search for different meaning Source: BBC

Re: share the annoying experience you had with your Boss/co-apprentice during apprenticeship Some entrepreneur owners in Nigeria are devils.. Sometimes, I wonder if even their children or younger ones can take half of the callous attitude they show to their apprentices. Few months back when I finished my ND, I decided to learn an entrepreneurial skill (tailoring).. Fast forward to this funny day that I resumed work (after being absent for two days). My boss without even asking any questions asked me to Kneel Down outside.. Lol.. And he was very serious about it.. That day I changed it for him oo.. We exchanged cold words...what if my younger ones or kids from the school where I once taught sees me and goes about saying 'I saw Uncle Ben kneeling down with his hands raised up in his shop ' ...some oga are cruel oo ................. The first day I started learning work in this same shop, one of the guys I met there asked me to pick up a plate and buy him food at a BUKA at the road (this guy was in SS1) I was like "are u mad" "abi u no dey look face ni" such nerves |

China has successfully put into orbit the final satellite in its BeiDou-3 navigation system, further advancing the country as a major space power. Tuesday's launch will allow China to no longer rely on the US government-owned Global Positioning System (GPS). The $10bn (£8bn) network is made up of 35 satellites and provide global navigation coverage. It comes as tensions between Beijing and Washington are increasing over the coronavirus, trade and Hong Kong. The launch had been scheduled for last week but was delayed after technical problems were found with the rocket in pre-launch tests. The third version of the Beidou Navigation Satellite System (BDS) offers an alternative to Russia's GLONASS and the European Galileo systems, as well as America's GPS. Future plans promise to support a more accessible and integrated system scheduled to come online by 2035 with BDS at its core. The first version of BeiDou, meaning "Big Dipper," was decommissioned in 2012. China's space programme has developed rapidly over the last 20 years as Beijing has provided significant funding to develop the country's own high-tech systems. In 2003, China became only the third country to launch its own crewed space mission. Since then it has built an experimental space station and sent two rovers to the moon. The moves are seen as preparation for a permanent space station, a potential crewed flight to the moon, and a possible first attempt to send an orbiter and rover to Mars. That would make China a serious contender to America in space exploration. |
After Harry Kane drew a blank in the 1-1 draw against Manchester United, Merson said the forward would not manage a high goal return under Mourinho because of his style of play. Kane had scored seven in 11 games under Mourinho before Friday's league match. "I think Kane has no problems scoring in my teams," the Portuguese said. The England captain was playing in his first match since recovering from a hamstring injury he suffered on 1 January. Kane managed 36 touches of the ball during the match - only goalkeeper Hugo Lloris had fewer among the players to have played the entire game. He had one shot on target. "It was a game where the two strikers [Anthony Martial for United] had a lot of chances," Mourinho added. "Do you give credit to my defence for Martial game? Do you give credit for United defence for the game and the occasions that we create or didn't create?" How did strikers do under Mourinho? Player Games Goals Ratio Didier Drogba (2004-07 & 2014-15) 187 73 0.39 goals per game Cristiano Ronaldo (2010-13) 162 168 1.03 Karim Benzema (2010-13) 150 78 0.52 Diego Milito (2009-10) 52 30 0.6 Zlatan Ibrahimovic (2008-09 & 2016-18) 100 58 0.58 Mourinho also reeled off the goal records of strikers he previously managed, including former Chelsea man Didier Drogba, Cristiano Ronaldo, who he had at Real Madrid, and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who worked with the 57-year-old at Manchester United and Inter Milan. "I had a few strikers that played for me and they are not bad," he said. Addressing Merson, he added: "Dear Paul, I have lots of respect for you. I think Harry Kane has no problems scoring goals in my teams, especially when he is fit, fresh and has a routine of playing. "That's my message to somebody I have a lot of respect for." |
