2. The problem an average Nigerian has is the same problem our leaders have – we demean our potentials a lot and often think that only ‘Oyinbos’ can really get it right, even in our country; little wonder almost all our industries and organisations are headed by expatriates. It is because our principals want it so otherwise nothing stops us from heading key management positions in industries and businesses cited in our own country and owned by Nigerians. Could it be that the average Nigerian lacks true management and leadership skills, hence the sidelining? Where exactly has the nut loosened? Why are all construction works in the country being awarded to expatriates? Don’t we have sound and qualified engineers anymore in Nigeria? Is it surprising that a Nigerian would walk into a mall and make straight for the section with foreign goods and refuse to buy any made in Nigeria product unless he doesn’t see the foreign equivalent? Will a white man look at, let alone pick made in Nigeria products when he walks into a small shop in his country? I doubt one would even find our products there yet we still wonder why our leaders don’t even pay attention to the plight of the average Nigerian. Who is to be blamed? If the top is rotten, in what time will it not spread to the bottom unless the rotten part is cut off early? Do not take this statement out of context – there is a reason why orthopedic surgeons amputate legs that have been ravaged by infection. When there has been a serious injury to a leg, Doctors strive hard to treat and bring the leg back to normal, if in the course of treatment, the leg gets infected, doctors advise it gets amputated so the infection doesn’t spread to other parts. After that is done, the person becomes relieved, right? What I am trying to point out is simple, probe and prosecute erring officers always and observe the magic that will begin to play out. This is not to say that corruption can be totally wiped out but it can be reduced to the barest minimum. In fact and reality, in every gathering of twelve, there must be a Judas but I am afraid that this is not the case with my fatherland. I have come to learn that in Nigeria politics, in every gathering of twelve, there are eleven Judas’. This is what keeps stalling the fight against corruption. Sometime ago, I was having a discussion on the state of Nigeria with someone and she said, “If at all they must steal, why not develop the country first and steal later?” This statement really got to me and I kept wondering if it had resulted to that. Truth be told, corruption is everywhere even in foreign countries but one thing distinguish them from us – they neither hoard money nor launder them the way it is done here. I doubt there is anything that will ever make a white man leave his country and come to Nigeria to buy houses upon houses when he knows he can never sleep in more than one at the same time. What I have noticed is that white men who come here to work for some time rent houses and go back to their country later, a Nigerian would rather prefer to buy a house and continue to spend millions on that house for maintenance in another country. Talk about corruption being a state of mind, when are we going to learn to support and patronize our own? Why do we look up to the whites for everything but good governance? |
This article was written my humble self. I am just so pained at the state of this country. Just imagine, two years after graduation from the university, I am still job hunting! Pained much, this wasn't what I signed up for. It is a very long read, broken in parts - enjoy and share! ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- 1. Nigeria is a country blessed in and out by nature. While other countries suffer from various natural disasters and count their losses, Nigeria benefits from various natural resources and still counts her losses. Isn’t it ironic? Our country, Nigeria has all it will take to be a developed nation but it is sad that those who sit at the top of affairs are too busy ‘borrowing’ money from the National treasury for their generations yet unborn that they fail to realize this simple fact. As for the youths, we are too busy hero-worshipping our leaders that we fail to realize that our future is being locked gradually in one shitty hole manned by corruption. We the youths do not even have a place in matters that govern the country, but that is not the focus of this piece. Let us take a look at the emirate of Dubai which used to be a desert with small buildings in it as recently as the late eighties; where a higher percentage of our principal officers have properties, businesses and other forms of investments in their large numbers, would you have ever believed without evidence that the Dubai of today was ever a mere expanse of land? In order to be on fair grounds in comparism, can Kano state be compared to a tenth fraction of Dubai or can even Lagos which is to Nigeria what Dubai is to the United Arab emirates be placed anywhere near Dubai? There is a reason Dubai emirate is today the number one spot for tourists, estate developers, business men and women, investors, holiday shoppers, leisure visits etc.; it is because they have leaders with a collective mission, leaders who put the interests of their people first – selfless leaders, leaders who got elected and kept their promises. Is this obtainable in Nigeria? One thing common among leaders of developed countries is that they all put the interests of their citizens before theirs and that is why till thy kingdom come, unless our leaders have a rethink, Blacks, with emphasis on Nigerians in general will always be treated as inferior people in the white man’s land. Give a white leader lemons and watch him make lemonade from them to share with his subordinates, give a Nigerian leader lemons and watch him swallow all right in front of you (even if it is too much and might give him a bloated abdomen) and expect you to give him more, only this time, for his family alone. He would prefer to excrete out the ingested lemons in its useless form than to share the lemons with the suffering masses because he doesn’t know when he would get more. This is a big problem present in our country today yet no one seems to care. |
When is unilag releasing direct entry list? Anyone knows ![]() |
labodinho:Alright, thanks |
gaussy:Not at all. |
It isn't new, the road leading to Dangote cement factory in Ibeshe, Ogun state is made of Cement. |
dedecoder:Please do you know when direct entry MBBS list will be released? Not seeing any info on that here or anywhere on the net. |
Makeup is not bad. |
Cassava is cassava. |
dtjns37:He stated it exactly as it is and you are bothered? The truth is really bitter. Truly, we import intelligence whether you accept or not. How do you explain the high influx of foreigners in all our construction companies? Are our engineering graduates just paper holders? Are they not intelligent and fit enough? |
