The National Universities Commission, NUC, has commenced the process of dis-accrediting some courses being handled by specialised universities. Specialised universities are those set up to pursue specific courses and programmes to generate manpower in particular sectors of the economy. They include universities of technology and those of agriculture. The NUC’s action follows a directive two months ago by the Federal Ministry of Education that specialised universities should not handle courses outside their mandate. The government further directed that such universities should stick to their core mandates for which they were set up and desist from running programmes which they were not meant to. The education ministry had condemned the current situation where such universities offer programmes in law, accounting, and business administration, among others. It also said it was an aberration for such institutions to change the nomenclature of those controversial courses to read, for instance, Banking Engineering and Accounting Technology. While investigating the implementation of the directive, PREMIUM TIMES found that the NUC was already meeting with officials of the affected universities on modalities for deregistration. The NUC Director of Information and Public Relations, Ibrahim Yakasai, who confirmed the meetings told PREMIUM TIMES that the commission held a meeting last week Tuesday in Abuja with the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, JAMB, and the vice chancellors of specialised to harmonise the courses being offered by the institutions. “On Tuesday, we met with JAMB and Vice Chancellors of Specialized Universities,” Mr. Yakasai said. “The schools brought all their programs and we are looking at them. “We are looking at the courses that are actually related to the mandates given to them, looking at the courses that are relevant for the Agriculture universities and those that are also relevant to technology universities; thereby delist those that are not relevant and ask them to stop doing them. “We will then revert back to the schools on the ones being approved for them and then we forward it to JAMB.” On the fate of the students who are currently studying the affected courses, Mr. Yakasai said they will be allowed to graduate. “We are not NAFDAC, we are dealing with human beings and not medicines that we can ban and discard. Whenever there is an order like this, we have to allow those already being enrolled legally to finish and their degrees will be recognised,” he said. On the fate of lecturers of the courses that will be affected when the ban is fully implemented, the NUC spokesperson said such lecturers will be deployed to other related courses as many universities already suffer from inadequate manpower. Mr. Yakasai also declared the NUC’s support for the directive saying specialised universities should stick to their core mandates. He said that the schools where set up by the government to run specific programs and that it is clearly stated in the laws establishing such schools. “Every school has laws and when those laws were written, it is clearly stated in the laws why they are set up for. “So what is difficult in the government asking them to goback to the laws and mandate the government approved for them,” he said. http://www.premiumtimesng.com/news/headlines/226122-exclusive-nuc-moves-implement-ban-illegal-courses-offered-nigerian-universities.html |

Lai Mohammed, in true manifestation of his name, told a lie, when he scolded the advocacy group Bring Back Our Girls (BBOG) by saying that their use of 'impudent' language should "should have been reserved for those who did nothing in the first 500 days of the girls’ abduction". Of course Nigerians know that Lai Mohammed is synonymous with lying and it is no wonder that the Oby Ezekwesili led BBOG are firing at him, but to say that the Jonathan administration 'did nothing' to rescue the Chibok girls is a lie that will not go unchallenged. I will now give a timeline of events to prove unequivocally that Lai Mohammed is a liar and his words should henceforth be taken with a pinch of salt by Nigerians and the international community. Timelines: March 12, 2014: The then minister of state for education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, wrote the Governors of Borno, Yobe and Adamawa and advised them not to hold SSCE examinations in areas susceptible to the Boko Haram insurgency. This letter, with reference number HMSE/FME/147/VOL.1/150 and titled: 'Security challenges and the conduct of the 2014 WASSCE and SSCE in Borno, Yobe and parts of Adamawa States', is still available today should Lai Mohammed wish to read it. April 14, 2014: Contrary to the advise given by the PDP led Federal Government of President Goodluck Jonathan, the APC led Government of Governor Kashim Shettima, for reasons best known to it, chose to ignore that advise and held the SSCE examinations in Chibok, a mainly Christian town that was susceptible to attacks from the Islamic extremist group, Boko Haram. On the day in question, the girls of Government Girls Secondary School Chibok were kidnaped by Boko Haram while preparing to write their final physics examinations. Flash forward to April 2, 2016: Governor Kashim Shettima confesses in an interview with Premium Times that he, the chief security officer of the state, DID NOT inform then President Jonathan when the girls were kidnapped for reasons best known to him. April 17, 2014: Exactly three days after the kidnap, President Jonathan who had been unaware of the issue because of the deliberate refusal of the APC led government of Borno state to brief him called for an emergency meeting at the Presidential villa. May 4, 2014: After consistent confused and contradictory information from the Borno state Government and various other authority figures, the Presidency invited the principal actors in the Chibok saga to the Presidential villa to ascertain the truth. The Presidency was shocked at the non appearance by officials of the Borno state government. The governor's wife who was invited shunned the event and when the then First Lady, Dame Patience Jonathan saw the scanty representation from Borno she famously exclaimed 'na only you waka come'? May 6, 2014: The then National Publicity Secretary of the APC and now the current minister of information, Lai Mohammed, released a statement calling the Presidency's intervention a 'distraction'. May 26, 2014: The Nigerian military revealed through Chief of Defence Staff, Air Marshal Alex Badeh, that it knew the location of the girls but could not attack because of fear of loss of lives of the girls after a similar operation in Sokoto to save an Italian and a Briton led to loss of lives of the hostages taken by an affiliate of Boko Haram. Unspecified Date in May 2014: The Jonathan administration began secret negotiations to secure the release of the Chibok girls. October 6, 2014: Then President Jonathan visits Niamey as part of efforts to secure the release of the Chibok girls with the help of the Nigerien government. October 17, 2014: A truce was announced with Boko Haram after negotiations which was to allow for the release of the Chibok girls. The truce was broken by Boko Haram who reneged on their promise to release their captives. There are other actions taken by the Jonathan admin which I have not listed here but the point I am making is that for Alhahi Lai Mohammed to say that that government did nothing is not just a lie, but a shameless attempt to rewrite history by a man who has scant regard for the truth. It is my prayer that the Chibok girls will be released but for that to happen, there must be complete transparency and truthfulness from government. Finally let me say that a man like, Lai Mohammed, with an over bloated opinion of himself and the poverty inducing government in which he serves cannot argue with a man with an accurate command of the facts. https://mobile.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10211383841169041&id=1152008079&refid=17&_ft_=top_level_post_id.10211383841169041%3Atl_objid.10211383841169041%3Athid.1152008079%3A306061129499414%3A2%3A0%3A1485935999%3A8060604343642069842#footer_action_list |
The Nigeria police have raided PREMIUM TIMES head office in Abuja, and arrested the newspaper’s publisher. The publisher, Dapo Olorunyomi, was arrested alongside the paper’s judiciary correspondent, Evelyn Okakwu. Plain-clothed officers conducted search at the office shortly after 5p.m. Thursday, and said they were acting on a complaint filed by the Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Buratai. The arrests came days after PREMIUM TIMES turned down the army’s demand to retract news stories about the Nigerian Army and its operations. The paper’s Editor-in-Chief, Musikilu Mojeed, condemned the raid. “They should stop deluding themselves that they can muzzle the press and intimidate PREMIUM TIMES,” said Mr. Mojeed. “They should know that our loyalty lies with our readers and the Nigerian people who have a right to know.” He said the paper will continue “to discharge its responsibilities in line with global best practices, social responsibility and patriotism, even at great risk to our personal liberties”. WhatsApp is, no doubt, the largest end-to-end encrypted messaging network that allows over billion of its users to send messages, photos, videos, voice messages, documents, and calls that are secure from falling into the wrong hands. And now it seems like WhatsApp is rolling out a much-awaited feature for the new beta versions of its Android app: Video Calling. New beta version 2.16.318 of WhatsApp brings the ability for users to conduct video calls. In order to activate video calls, you simply need to pull up a contact in the WhatsApp app, tap on the call icon and choose "Video Call." You can also go direct to the Calls tab to begin with the option. The Video calls will only work if both the caller as well as the receiver have the same beta build of WhatsApp that supports the feature. If not, you will be notified with an error message that your contacts needs to update their app. For now, the Video calling feature is limited to WhatsApp's recent beta builds, reported Android Police, which first spotted the feature. However, there is a possible trick that you can try in order to activate the feature. Possible Trick to Activate WhatsApp Video Calling Feature You simply need to follow these steps: Download WhatsApp Beta for Android from APKMirror, Backup all your chats, Wipe WhatsApp data, Log in again. You can try the above trick that had helped some users activate the video calling feature, but make sure you successfully backup your chats first. So, download the latest build for WhatsApp Android from APKMirror now ( http:///2eChCia ) and give it a try. Reportedly, WhatsApp Video Calling feature also provides an option to mute the call. You can even switch between the front and rear camera on your phone, just like any other video calling apps. Your app's call history list now displays both video and voice calls. With its release in a stable version for over 1 Billion users in the coming weeks, the WhatsApp Video Calling feature could effectively ruin the market for Google's video calling app Duo, which has been released just few month ago. |
Delay in the appointment of ministers, failure to check the marauding Fulani herdsmen and flawed monetary policies are all hallmark of President Muhammadu Buhari’s failure, according to award-winning novelist Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie. “He had an opportunity to make real reforms early on, to boldly reshape Nigeria’s path. He wasted it,” Adichie said in an op-ed published by the New York Times on Wednesday. In spite of her admission that Nigeria, as the most populous nation in Africa, is difficult to govern, and that falling oil prices were beyond the president, Adichie noted that certain policies the present government had implemented were anti- development. “After an ostensible search for the very best, he presented many recycled figures with whom Nigerians were disenchanted. But the real test of his presidency came with the continued fall in oil prices, which had begun the year before his inauguration,” she continued. “Nigeria’s economy is unwholesomely dependent on oil, and while the plunge in prices was bound to be catastrophic, Mr. Buhari’s actions made it even more so. “He adopted a policy of ‘defending’ the naira, Nigeria’s currency. The official exchange rate was kept artificially low. On the black market, the exchange rate ballooned. Prices for everything rose: rice, bread, cooking oil. Fruit sellers and car sellers blamed ‘the price of dollars’. Complaints of hardship cut across class. Some businesses fired employees; others folded. “The government decided who would have access to the central bank’s now-reduced foreign currency reserves, and drew up an arbitrary list of worthy and unworthy goods — importers of toothpicks cannot, for example, but importers of oil can. Predictably, this policy spawned corruption: The exclusive few who were able to buy dollars at official rates could sell them on the black market and earn large, riskless profits — transactions that contribute nothing to the economy.” She said certain presidential actions or inaction are contributing to Nigerians’ declining hope which is precipitated by an economy in a downward slide. These include a selective anti-corruption drive, insecurity occasioned, largely, by activities of Fulani herdsmen, the invasion of judges’ residences by operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS), and the perceived promotion of ‘northern Sunni Muslim agenda’. Though Adichie acknowledged the difficulty in solving the malaise she highlighted in the op-ed, she insisted the government could have done more to make the situation better. “There are no easy answers to Nigeria’s malaise, but the government’s intervention could be more salutary — by prioritising infrastructure, creating a business-friendly environment and communicating to a populace mired in disappointment,” she said. http://m.guardian.ng/news/buhari-has-lost-chance-to-reform-nigeria-says-chimamanda-ngozi-adichie/ |
Updated July 19, 2016 The National Universities Commission (NUC) has warned prospective students not to enroll in the degree and postgraduate diploma in education programmes by the Kaduna-based National Teachers Institute (NTI) as the programmes are illegal. This warning is contained in a statement signed by the Director, Information and Public Relations of the Commission, Mr Ibrahim Yakasai. He said that the institute has persistently ignored advice by the commission to abstain from mounting degree programmes as the institute lacks the necessary approval for affiliation with any university. The statement adds that degree and post graduate diploma certificates obtained from the NTI will not be recognized for the purposes of employment, National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) and further studies. https://www.channelstv.com/2016/07/19/nuc-declares-nti-degrees-illegal/ |
This present Regime should please provide fuel, light etc and pay workers salaries. If at the end of the trial saraki is convicted so be it. |
olorunda68:. How much is dollar to naira in the parallel market? do you see it in our banks etc? The present official rate is a mirage. It is just like official price of fuel. How much is it selling in the fuel stations? |
Naira is already devalued. Nigerian Government refusal to devalue naira is just like a "last kick of a dying horse". |

12 POINTS FOR WIVES TO NOTE: ================ 1. The wife that wins all arguments with her husband is not wise. The home is not a law court. 2. The wife that uses sex as a weapon in the home - placing embargo, going to bed in jeans shorts and trousers - lacks wisdom. 3. The wife that uses the modern trends and laws of "women's rights" to insult or ridicule her husband simply makes a fool of herself. 4. A woman that makes her home devoid of peace through bickering, nagging and quarrels needs help. A man should be eager to run away from office to be at home, for that should be the safest and coziest place on earth for him. 5. Modern-day equality in marriage does not mean competition. It simply means partnership. Taking advantage of such equality to turn around and become the de facto head of the home and oppress the man is tantamount to playing with fire. If you destroy your home, soon you will be the boss of an empty home. 6. A wise wife makes the man feel so good that he assumes that he is the head. Once he gets that feeling, the woman gently wields her power and the head actually turns to wherever the neck wants without a protest. 7. A wife that does not pull herself away from friends' influence and advice or even from the control of her mother and father will have herself to blame. 8. When a man is looking for a wife, he bypasses women of different shapes and sizes to choose a wife. But soon after childbirth, many women hide under the excuse of childbirth to let go of themselves. Many stop bothering about their looks, shape, dressing, etc. Within 5 years of marriage, people start wondering if the wife is the man's aunt, even though she is 7 years younger. Her defence is that if he truly loves her, he should love her the way she is. But when looking for a wife, he saw people like the present YOU and ignored them and settled for the former YOU. Today, you go to bed smelling of onions and ogiri. You go to bed wearing grandmothers' clothes. Why are you playing with your marriage? Love is not about looks - we know. But looks enhance love and marriage. There is a difference between someone disfiguring herself and the person being disfigured by an accident. Please don't be complacent. As hard as it may be, work on looking like you were when he first saw you and began the chase. 9. If every night you are tired, sleepy, sore, down with headache or fever, "not in the mood," you are a joker, a serious comedian! 10. If your children suddenly become more important to you than your husband, you need prayers. 11. If you assume that as the woman, only you need to be pampered and fussed over while the man is a stone that has no emotions, you need to be pitied. 12. A woman that has the mind of a wife does not excite her husband. Wives are usually complacent and presumptuous. A wife must strive to have the mind of a girlfriend. A girlfriend is always nicer, sweeter, more loving and always thinking of ways to wow her sweetheart; a girlfriend does not try to win all arguments, does not call the man a "useless man", is not careless about her looks or dressing, always smiles and laughs with the man, sends the man sweet messages and calls, etc. Are you your husband's girlfriend in word and indeed? https://m.facebook.com/story.php?story_fbid=10206327173849747&id=1578877907&refid=7&_ft_=qid.6198434848225375147%3Amf_story_key.-8108820232182378742%3AeligibleForSeeFirstBumping.&__tn__=%2As |
Some career experts say that the day you start a new job you should begin planning for your next job. And you know what? You should! Just make sure that you stay focused enough on the job you were hired for that you succeed and excel in that position before looking for the next one. Promotions are not a given. It used to be that workers progressed along specific career paths during their careers, but the impact of technology, globalization, and flatter organizational structures, has changed that paradigm. Today, employees have to create and manage their own career paths -- through one or multiple organizations. And remember that a promotion is not always an upward path. Sometimes -- especially in today's business environment -- you may need to make a lateral move to position yourself for a later upward move. How do you develop your promotion plan? Incorporate these 10 strategies into your plan. 1. Develop Mentoring Relationships One recent study found that in four out of five promotions, those promoted had a mentoring relationship with someone higher in the company who helped spread the good word about them. Some companies have formal mentoring programs, but even if your company does not, there are still ways you can build relationships with people in higher positions in the company. Mentors can also be great sources for information and career guidance. 2. Quantify Results While promotions are not necessarily based on your past performance, you can certainly make a much better case for a promotion by showing detailed information about your past successes. Those who get results get ahead. Keep a record of everything you do that enhances the company's bottom line, that puts the company or your department in a good light, that is creative and innovative, and that shows your loyalty and commitment to the organization. 3. Practice Self-Promotion We're taught by our families that modesty is a virtue, but just as with job-hunting, if no one knows how great you are, you simply won't get ahead. Be a known quantity. If you have had major accomplishments or created new or award-winning programs, make sure people know about them -- especially the people doing the promoting. Sell yourself -- and let it be known that you are seeking a promotion. One professional we know sends out a monthly email to his boss and his boss's boss to keep them updated on his progress on various projects -- and to share any accomplishments and accolades that occurred in the previous month. 4. Establish a Bond with Your Boss It might help to think of your boss as one of those border guards between countries. S/he can either be raising the gate and waving you onward and upward to your next position within the company, or s/he can be keeping the gate down and blocking you from any movement within the company. Use all opportunities to make your boss a key supporter of your promotion. Use professional settings to seek counsel and stress your interest in staying with the company. Use performance appraisals not just to go over your accomplishments, but to talk with your boss about potential roadblocks to a promotion -- and how to overcome those roadblocks. Some experts also suggest building rapport with your boss by learning more about his or her outside interests and hobbies -- and then chatting about them during conferences, parties, or other informal activities. 5. Acquire New Knowledge and Skills It goes without saying that one of the best ways to succeed in getting a promotion is to expand your knowledge and skills sets in areas that are critical to the organization. As technology and other environmental forces change rapidly, you need an ever-increasing skill set not only to perform your job, but to stay marketable. Experts also suggest that employees who want to get ahead should not only keep current with industry news and events, but to also pay attention to trends and events outside their specialty. 6. Build Your Network The more people who know you, know your strengths and abilities, know your value to the organization, and know (at least some of) your ambitions, the more likely your name will be discussed when opportunities arise. An added benefit of networking is that you will learn much more about the company if you network with people in other areas of the organization. Learn more about networking here. 7. Ask for More Responsibilities Volunteering to help out other departments or teams -- or simply asking for more responsibilities -- increases your value within the organization. Asking for more work shows your interest and desire to help your department and company to succeed -- as well as putting a spotlight on your value to the organization. 8. Act Professionally at All Times Earn a reputation for being dependable, professional, and cooperative. Act and look the part. • Dress professionally and neatly -- even on business casual days. • Ask questions when you aren't sure how to do something. • Dare to be different -- make yourself stand out from the pack. • Keep a positive outlook on things, even when in tough situations. • Don't whine or complain - or blame others -- when things don't go your way. • Make a name for yourself in your industry through conferences, articles, speeches. • Don't be a clock-watcher. Finally, be a problem-solver. Don't go to your boss with problems. If a difficult situation arises, be sure to come up with at least one solution before seeking your boss's blessing for dealing with the situation. Problem-solvers get promoted. Complainers who expect the boss to solve all their problems don't. 9. Be a Team Player Because so much of work is now accomplished through teams -- departmental or cross-functional -- it becomes even more important to share successes with your team and to avoid pointing your finger when there are failures. And by being a team player, you only build your reputation and increase your value to the organization. 10. Create Your Own Opportunities After studying the needs and challenges of the organizations, if you see an area that has been neglected -- and you have key skills in that area - write a proposal for a new position. And even if the company does not go for the new position, you have again shown your initiative, creativity, and value to the firm -- and these things can only help you the next time you request a promotion. If you are waiting for our president to appoint non Northerners please stop wasting your time because he will do it at the fullness of time. Hahaha…. President Buhari will still shock Nigerians. He has nothing to lose even if he doesn’t get a second term. They have sat down and planned it. What we are seeing is execution stage. The appointments that will look fair throughout his stay in the office are those clearly stated in the constitution like ministers. The whole strategic positions will be taken over by the Northerners. The CBN Governor will be suspended any day someone writes something negative about him on the pages of newspaper even if it is false. Mark my words!!! |
