Politics › Re: Iyabo Said I Was Going To Die In Office – Obasanjo by betov: 12:15pm On Jul 11, 2015 |
Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has revealed that his eldest daughter, Iyabo, told him he was going to die in office.
The former President also said his daughter said if that should happen, she would not weep for him.
The former President said he, nevertheless, replied his daughter that such would not mean anything to him since he would not be there to appreciate it.
Obasanjo, who said this in his controversial book, MY WATCH, said that was Iyabo’s submission when he informed her and three of his other children about his desire to contest the 1999 Presidential election.
The meeting with the four children, which he said came after he had consulted almost all those that mattered before joining the presidential race, was held in New York.
He said it was ironic that Iyabo became a senator during his tenure.
Meanwhile, before being elected a senator, Iyabo was appointed a commissioner by Otunba Gbenga Daniel, while he was serving as governor of Ogun State.
Obasanjo said, “My mind was almost made up (to vie for the position of President) but I had to consult with my children. I got four of them together in New York.
“I told them I was going to decide whether to go into politics or not. Iyabo was the most antagonistic.
“She burst out loudly, ‘I know you will join and you will die there and if you die, I will not weep.’
“I told her ‘if I die and you weep, it is for yourself and others, not for me as I will not know you are weeping.’
“It is ironic that within 10 years, Iyabo became a Senator and I completed two terms of eight years without a scratch.”
The former President added that out of the four children in attendance when he spoke with them, it was only Segun who he said, had a few words of encouragement.
The son, according to Obasanjo, said, “Daddy, you have always said that we must serve God and humanity and if this is the way you have chosen to serve God and humanity, I will pray for you.”
With those words from his son coupled with the words of encouragement he said he got from those he had spoken with earlier, the Owu-born retired general said “the die was almost cast.”
In the book, Obasanjo also mentioned the names of his 21 children. He was however silent on the number of his wives or the mothers of the children.
Five of the children are holders of PhD in different fields.
The children are Iyabo (PhD), who is the eldest; Busola, Segun(PhD), Gbenga(PhD), Deboye, Muyiwa, Funke, Bola (PhD) and Seun (PhD).
Also listed were Dare, Kofo, Dayo, Biyi, Bisoye, Damilola, Jonwo, Bunmi, Funso, Dayo, Toyosi and Bukola.
The listing and mentioning of the names of his children was the first time the two-time President of Nigeria, would publicly talk about his children.
In the book, Obasanjo also extolled his late wife, Stella who he said had to contend with violent nature of his divorced wife.
He said he decided to bring Stella to his house after the dissolution of his first marriage in a Lagos High Court by Justice Dosumu. Stella, he added, was “one of the women who had children for me.”
The former President noted that in the course of his marriage to Stella, she handled four major issues most admirably.
The issues, according to him, included “constant harassment at home through telephone calls and name-calling, and physical and violent confrontation in the streets by my divorced wife.”
Obasanjo added that Stella tried to avoid exchange, but said that he got at least one report of close combat where both inflicted wounds on each other at his farm when he was not there.
He also commended his late wife for taking proper care of his other children and also visiting him on many occasions while he was in Jos and Yola prisons.
He regretted the death of the former First Lady, who he said was very close to him, but added that it was after her death that he got to know that the desire to celebrate her 60th birthday made her to embark on stomach operation without his knowledge.
Obasanjo said that it was after her burial that he decided to look into the circumstances that led to her death.
He said in the book, “After her death, I found out the circumstances of her death. I found out that part of her sixtieth birthday anniversary, which was unknown to me, was her operation for her tummy and her shape.
“This was carried out in Spain. The doctor was careless,” he said, adding that with the help of the Nigerian Embassy in Spain and the Spanish Authority, he was able to prosecute the doctor and the hospital.
Though he said he realised that once a life has been lost it life cannot be brought back. He said he was of the opinion that successful prosecution could prevent similar carelessness and loss of life in future.
The doctor, he said, was made to pay damages while his licence was withdrawn for a considerable period of time.
He said Olu, Stella’s son, collected “whatever damages were paid.”
The former president said he was however sad when he heard that some Nigerians were carrying rumours that he might have caused the death of his wife “to sacrifice her for success in my job.”
“That is how wicked and satanic some Nigerians can be in their rumours and mischief,” the former President added ,like seriously tried his best, the entire yorubas ar proud of u |

Politics › Re: APC Slams Metuh, Offers Him Crash Course On His New Role by betov: 9:47am On Apr 18, 2015 |
admax: I just saw this APC hilarious response to Olisa Metuh of PDP.......
Alleged plan to destabilize PDP: APC slams Metuh, offers him crash course on his new role
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has denied having any hand in the crumbling of the PDP, as alleged by the party's National Publicity Secretary Olisa Metuh, while offering him (Metuh) a free, six-week crash course on his new role as the opposition spokesman.
Reacting to the allegation by Metuh that the APC has been working to destabilize the PDP, the party (APC) said in a statement by its National Publicity Secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed, in Abuja on Friday, that during the training, Metuh will be given free lessons by his APC counterpart, in the spirit of cooperation and for the advancement of the nation's democracy.
''Metuh will need the training to effectively carry out his new, tough task. It is now obvious that he needs to understand that for him to succeed in his new role, he must be credible, empirical, more sophisticated in language use and very passionate, in addition to being able to operate on a lean or zero budget,'' it said.
APC said it is ludicrous, to say the least, for anyone to suggest that the APC is seeking to destabilize the PDP, when the erstwhile ruling party has done such a great job of crumbling under its own weight, having gorged on the commonwealth.
''Really, it beggars belief to say that the APC is seeking to lure away members of the PDP's NEC with 'phantom promises and threats', with a view to destabilizing the party, when everyone knows the rate at which PDP stalwarts have been rushing to jump off the sinking ship called the PDP before it finally tips over.
''Our National Chairman and our President-elect have even spoken out publicly on this issue, encouraging the eager PDP defectors to stay back in their party so they can provide a formidable opposition to the new ruling party. How then can anyone accuse the APC of either luring away PDP members or seeking to destabilize a party that has done itself in?'' the party queried.
It advised Metuh to take a little time off so he can engage in some introspection, against the backdrop of the total repudiation by Nigerians of the brand of politics that his party, the PDP, played in its days as the ruling party.
''There is no doubt that Metuh is in a hurry to do his work as an opposition spokesman. He should not worry. He should save his energy, because he would need it, in addition to the crash course which has been offered to him freely, if he is to function effectively in his new role. Having been in opposition for so long, we can tell Metuh that it is not a cakewalk.
''Lies by themselves never travel far enough for the truth not to catch up with them, as the PDP must have now realized when its strategy of muckraking, distortion of facts and blatant falsehood - under the guise of electioneering campaign - failed to turn the tide in its favour during the last elections. But it seems the lead actors in that failed strategy, Metuh included, have not yet learnt their lessons, hence they have continued to engage in their despicable pastime.
''The APC has no time to waste on luring away members of the PDP. We have our hands full as we seek to clear the mess that the PDP has made of Nigeria and the state of hopelessness to which its 16-year rule has plunged the citizens. Because Nigerians wanted change, they voted for our party. How then can the party of change allow itself to become populated by the same folks whom Nigerians have rejected?'' APC said.

Politics › Re: Impeachment: Labour To Shut Down Ekiti For Fayose As Group Writes CJN by betov: 4:18pm On Apr 17, 2015 |
erunz: • Afe Babalola urges APC lawmakers to rescind decision • Court cautions lawmakers, governor against causing trouble Tobi Soniyi in Abuja and Olakiitan Victor in Ado Ekiti Following attempt to impeach the Ekiti State Governor, Ayodele Fayose, the Organised Labour in the state has declared half day total shutdown in Ado Ekiti today, in solidarity with the state governor. Members of the organised labour, under the auspices of Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Joint Negotiating Council (JNC), gathered at the popular Fajuyi Park Resort centre yesterday where they declared Friday a work-free day for workers of the state civil service. The organised labour also placed embargo on human and vehicular movements within Ado Ekiti metropolis from 6a.m. till noon. Addressing journalists, the unions which spoke through the Chairman of the NLC, Com Ayodeji Aluko, warned the political class against heating up the polity, lamenting that the breach of public peace had also been coming from a few elites and certain political group which sees the state governorship as their sole right. Meanwhile, in a letter signed by Chief Afe Babalola (SAN) and addressed to the Speaker of the state House of Assembly, Hon Adewale Omirin, he begged the lawmakers to sheathe their swords for the state to move forward, as he commended the lawmaker for accepting the Supreme Court judgement that validated Fayose’s election in the June 21 governorship election. Also a group called Ekiti Justice Group (EJG), had, while addressing journalists on the same issue, described the action of the former Speaker of the assembly, Dr Adewale Omirin, directing the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Ayodeji Daramola, to constitute a probe panel against Fayose as bizarre, ignoble, irresponsible and downright unlawful. EJG called on the CJN to prevail on Justice Daramola not to allow his respected office and personality to be dragged unduly into any illegality and the murky waters of politics. Aluko, who rued attempt by 19 APC lawmakers to impeach Fayose, lamented the sporadic shootings noticed at the House of Assembly a couple of weeks ago, when members of the PDP had to occupy the Assembly to forestall Fayose from being impeached, saying his members would have been killed, but for providence. “As critical stakeholders, we deem it fit to make a clarion call to all Ekiti indigenes home and abroad to project the need for peace and stability in our state. We want to implore our politicians to embrace the true precepts of democratic practices by imbibing the principles of sportsmanship. Aluko said the consistent restiveness being witnessed in the state could be ascribed to political intolerance on the part of the political gladiators, adding that the scenario is denting the image of the State among the comity of States. However, EJG said in the letter signed by its National Coordinator, Mr Gbenga Babawibe, and addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Justice Mahmud Mohammed, who is the chairman of NJC that “Omirin is still contesting the legality or otherwise of his impeachment in Suit Nos FHC/ABJ/CS/885/2014 and FHC/L/CS/1823/2014, respectively, and a decision is yet to be delivered on same. “It is elementary that once an action is subjudiced, a party to the suit is not expected to take any action capable of overreaching any decision the Court of Law may make in relation to such a suit.” The letter read further that: “We are aware that following the Inauguration of Fayose as the governor of the state on October 15, 2014, some members of the state House of Assembly abdicated their responsibility as elected assembly men, which led to the impeachment of the former Speaker, Omirin, and some other principal officers of the assembly.” Meanwhile, a Federal High Court sitting in Abuja yesterday adjourned to April 29 for the hearing of the suit seeking to stop the All Progressives Congress (APC) members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly from initiating impeachment proceeding again the Governor, Ayodele Fayose and his deputy, Kolapo Olusola. Before adjourning the matter, the trial judge, Justice Ahmed Mohammed, however warned the parties in the suit to steer clear of any action that could cause trouble or chaos in the state. He further stated that any party that discovered that the other was making moves to foment trouble should bring an application before the court. The plaintiffs, the Speaker of the House of Assembly (described as being occupied by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) factional Speaker, Olugbemi Joseph Dele); Ekiti State House of Assembly, Fayose and Olusola through their counsel Ahmed Raji (SAN), had approached the court via a motion ex-parte seeking to halt impeachment moves against the governor At the last adjourned date, the court ordered the defendants in the suit, the APC factional speaker of the House of Assembly, Omirin, and the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Daramola to appear before it and show cause why the plaintiff’s request should not be granted. When the matter came up yesterday, plaintiffs’ counsel informed the court that the defendants had not yet filed any process. Responding, the defendants counsel, Terence Venber, told the court that his clients were served last Saturday, which was an election day and that was still within the three days allowed by the rule of court for them to respond. Giving a short ruling, the court noted that since April 11 was an election day, it would be deemed to be a public holiday and the service of the process would take effect from the next working day, from which the three days provided by the court rule would start counting. It was on that note that court adjourned to enable the defendants file and serve their response. Apart from Omirin and Justice Daramola, other defendants in the suit are the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Suleiman Abba, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). In the ex-parte application, the plaintiffs had urged the court to grant an interim injunction setting aside the impeachment notice already served on the governor and the deputy and also restraining the defendants from taking any further steps in the impeachment moves. They also argued that the act by Omirin to issue an impeachment notice and serve same on the governor and the deputy governor as Speaker of the House of Assembly amounted to impersonating the incumbent Speaker. The plaintiffs also urged the court to grant the prayers and make the interim injunctions to subsist pending the determination of their motion on notice for interlocutory injunctions seeking the same set of prayers. Raji urged the court to grant the prayers “in the interest of justice, public order, peace and safety of the people of the state”. However, the judge in his ruling, rather than granting the interim injunctions, ordered the parties to appear in court to convince the court why the plaintiffs’ prayers for interim injunction should not be granted. According to the judge, “The order is hereby made directing the 1st to 4th defendants (Omirin, IGP, INEC and Ekiti CJ), to appear before this court on April 16, 2015 and show cause why the interim order sought by the plaintiffs via an ex parte motion dated April 7, 2015 should not be made by this court.” The court also granted leave to serve Omirin and Justice Daramola, who reside in Ekiti State, outside jurisdiction. It also ordered that Omirin and the Ekiti State Chief Judge be served through advertisement in a national newspaper, while making a separate order that the Chief Judge be served with processes of court through the office of the Chief Registrar of the Ekiti State High Court. In the main suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/302/2015, the plaintiffs are seeking nine prayers among which is “an order setting aside the purported notice of impeachment and all steps taken by the 1st defendant (Omirin) with other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff (Ekiti State House of Assembly) in relation to the purported issuance and service of the said notice of impeachment for the purpose of commencing and concluding the impeachment proceedings against Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Olusola Kolapo, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).” They also want an order prohibiting the 1st defendant (Omirin) and other errant members of the 2nd plaintiff (Ekiti State House of Assembly) from further taking any step, or engaging in unlawful activities relating to the impeachment of Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Olusola Kolapo, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended). In addition, the plaintiffs want an order prohibiting the Chief Judge of Ekiti State from taking any step or action in relation to the request of the 1st defendant (Omirin) for the purpose of appointing a panel of seven persons to investigate and purported allegations of gross misconduct against Peter Ayodele Fayose and Dr. Olusola Kolapo, except and until there is absolute compliance with provisions of section 36(1) and section 188(1), (2), (3) and (4) of the 1999 Constitution (as amended).

chiefinalowo: NASARAWA State governor and governor-elect, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, on Tuesday, said the Yoruba race was behind the success recorded by the All Progressives Congress (APC) during the just-concluded general election in the country.
The governor, who made this assertion at the Presidential Lodge in Lafia, the state capital, while receiving Yoruba community in the state, led by its president, Afeez Adigun, stressed that the role played by the tribe during the merger process of all opposition parties could not be quantified in terms of naira and kobo.
He stressed further that apart from monumental achievements of APC-led governments in various states, which resorted to the success of the party during the elections, Nigerians were truly yearning for change, due to competence and trust they have in the president-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari.
Al-Makura, who said he would forever remain grateful to Yoruba race, especially the role it played during his re-election, said despite that the people were not from the state, they appreciated projects executed by his administration in the past three and a half years.
Earlier, the leader of the group, who is also the special assistant to the governor, Adigun, said Al-Makura’s enthusiasm for the developmental stride in the state prompted the community to give him and other APC candidates unalloyed supports during the elections.
