Sheikh Ibrahim El-Zakzaky on arrival at Medanta Hospital in India on Tuesday

Shiite leader Ibrahim El-Zakzaky has alleged that the condition at the Medanta Hospital in India, where he was taken on Tuesday is worse than that of Nigeria and the prison.

Premium Times, quoting a trending audio of El-Zakzaky, said the religious leader would love to return to Nigeria or seek the services of doctors in Turkey or Malaysia.

The leader of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), was flown to India on Monday following a Kaduna court order last week.

He had requested to be allowed to travel to India for advanced medical treatment following the deterioration of his health and that of his wife, Zeenat, in detention.

Both of them have been detained since December 2015 after a clampdown by soldiers who killed at least 347 IMN members.

In the audio, Mr El-Zakzaky accused the Nigerian government of frustrating his medical treatment in India.

Speaking in Hausa, he said the situation at the hospital in India is “pathetic and worrisome situation.”

He said the management of Medanta Hospital, New Delhi, had been threatened not to admit him for treatment.

The hospital officials received us well they told us that they parked two ambulance vehicles, deceiving the crowd while taking us out through another way, saying that it was for our own safety.

On getting to the hospital, we are placed under a tighter security situation worse than what we have been witnessed in Nigeria.

Nigerian singer, Simi has shared a dream she had about a fellow musician, Davido via her social media page, Twitter.

In the post she shared on the microblogging site, Simi explained a rather illogical dream as it did not have a precise meaning.

“Had a dream Davido was texting me about royalties and someone wanted to sell me transparent shoes and I tried to text him back with the shoes, but the keypad on the shoes were too fluffy so I used my phone. Tried to text him back, I mistakenly texted the group and there was a typo.

Hon. Adiele Ekeke, a Commissioner in Abia State Oil Producing Area Development Commission (ASOPADEC) has buried his two children who died alongside his wife in an accident which occurred along Enugu-Okigwe express road.

The lady and her two children were reported to have been traveling along the Enugu – Port Harcourt Road on Sunday August 11, when their vehicle got involved in a ghastly accident that claimed their lives. Luckily, the third child survived the accident but is currently in intensive care where doctors are battling to save her life.

Confirming the death of his wife and two kids, Hon. Ekeke said; "Its too hard to believe, but it did happened. We're on our way to Ohanku to bury my 2 children, my only son and first daughter. Their mother is still in mortuary"

Wife of Lagos State Governor, Dr Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu on Monday underscored the need for Nigerians to embrace togetherness and mutual cooperation, saying such remains critical to engender peace and prosperity for the nation.

Former Military Governor of Lagos State, Rear Admiral Ndubuisi Kanu (Rtd); First Lady of Lagos State, Dr. (Mrs) Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu and First Civilian Governor of the State, Alhaji Lateef Jakande during the Eid-el-Kabir (Ileya) celebration at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja, on Monday, August 12, 2019.

Speaking at a special Eid-El-Kabir celebration held at Lagos House, Alausa, Ikeja put together by the State Government, Dr Sanwo-Olu said Nigerians must draw lessons from the significance of the festive season to always uphold peace, help the needy and have abiding faith in God. According to her,

Today’s festival brings us together not as Muslims or Christians but as one family either by blood or by friendship. The Holy Prophet (Peace Be Unto Him) said;

Togetherness promotes goodness and separation causes misery. Allah supports those living together, eat together and do not separate because surely the Blessings (of Allah) lie in togetherness.

Islam has not only preached but has also laid down rules and practices, which help to promote unity and togetherness. For example, the Jama’h (congregational) prayers and the Hajj are meant to foster togetherness. Togetherness and mutual cooperation bring prosperity to all.

This creates a bond of friendship and helpfulness to one another in times of need. It gives rise to strength and power to face an enemy.

Recalling that the celebration was in remembrance of the command given by Allah to Prophet Ibrahim to sacrifice his son, Dr Sanwo-Olu said the fulfillment of the noble command of Allah to Ibrahim signifies the faith he had in him, and that it was important for all to rely solely on God and strictly follow His commandments.

This act symbolizes our willingness to give up things that are of benefit to us or close to our hearts, in order to follow Allah’s commandments.

It also symbolizes our willingness to give up some of our own bounties, in order to strengthen ties of friendship and help those who are in need. We recognize that all blessings come from Allah, and we should open our hearts and share with others.

The symbolism is in the attitude, a willingness to make sacrifices in our lives in order to stay on the Straight Path.

Each of us makes small sacrifices, giving up things that are fun or important to us,” she said. While urging Muslims to eschew all traits of disobedience to God, Dr Sanwo-Olu said they must be willing to follow Allah’s commands completely and obediently, adding:

It is this strength of heart, purity in faith, and willing obedience that our Lord desires from us.”

While thanking God for the peace and harmony in the State, Dr Sanwo-Olu urged residents to continue to live as one, saying that it is in doing so that the State Government would remain focused to deliver on its promises and as well bring developmental changes.

Earlier, the First Lady was at General Hospital in Epe to felicitate with mothers who just delivered their babies including those who delivered through Caeserean Section.

In his lecture at the celebration on the four golden lessons of Eid-El-Kabir, National Amir of The Muslim Congress (TMC), Dr Luqman AbdulRaheem said the season was basically reminding the people of the need to have sound faith in Allah, submission to the will of Allah, nation building and hospitality.

He said the sacrifice, as commanded by Allah, was not for Ibrahim to kill his son, rather it was to sacrifice his son in his heart, which he did.

The Ogun State Police Command has arrested a 52-year-old man, Emmanuel Ikhine, for allegedly raping and impregnating his 18 years old biological daughter .

The suspect, who resides at No 6, Iyaniwura street, Joju, Sango Ota, was arrested following a report by a neighbour, Yemisi Ashade, who went to the station with the victim.

The complainant said the victim came to her to report how her father has been abusing her sexually, whenever she is alone at home, with a threat to deal with her if she dares tell anyone about it.

She added that the girl could no longer bear the sexual assault, hence she confided in her. On interrogation, Ikhine made a confessional statement that he has been having carnal knowledge of the victim long before now since he has separated from his wife.

The victim also narrated her ordeal to the police. She revealed that her father sleeps with her when her two brothers are not at home.

The Abia State Governor, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu, on Thursday visited the family of late Chimaobi Nwaogu, the commercial motorcycle operator reportedly shot dead by a trigger-happy soldier at Umuokereke-Ngwa village in Obingwa LGA of the State, over his refusal to part with N100 bribe demanded of him by the military men at Ohanze military checkpoint.

Governor Ikpeazu, who informed the family of the deceased that the killer soldier along with two of his other colleagues have been arrested, commiserated with the family of the slain man and announced that government would take care of the family he left behind.

The Governor, who described the killing of Nwaogu as an act of cowardice, reiterated his commitment to the security of lives and property of Abians, assuring that further investigations into the killing are ongoing.

Ikpeazu said: “This is one killing we will not allow to be swept under the carpet.

“Such incidents must stop in Abia.
“I therefore urge the youths of obingwa and, indeed, every area in Abia State, to remain calm, peaceful and go about their normal businesses, while we deal with the situation according to the laws of the land.

“Be assured that justice will be served.”

Also speaking, the State Commissioner of Police, Ene Okon, who accompanied the Governor on the visit, expressed regrets over the sad incident and promised that everything is being done to ensure that such does not happen again.

Speaking earlier during the condolence visit, the uncle of the deceased, Nwanguma Nwogu, narrated how his nephew on refusing to give the sum of N100 to an army officer at a checkpoint in Ohanze fled to his hometown in Umuokereke Ngwa, while being pursued by the army officer in question who later shot him dead from behind.

According to him, the incident was promptly reported to the Divisional Police Officer who swung into action and dispatched his men to the scene of the crime.

Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnic (SSANIP), Rufus Giwa Polytechnic, Owo (RUGIPO) chapter has hailed Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu for ordering the reabsorption of disengaged 59 workers at the polytechnic’s staff primary and secondary schools.

Speaking with reporters in Akure, the Ondo State capital, the SSANIP chapter’s chairman, Comrade Chris Olowolade, described the mode of the sack by the management and governing council as unacceptable.

He, however, lauded Akeredolu for his timely intervention.

Olowolade accused the polytechnic’s authorities of treating the disengaged staff school’s workers like lepers.

He said: “We want to appreciate our Governor Akeredolu for directing reabsorption of the disengaged workers.

Staff schools are an integral section of the polytechnic; the staff there are employees of the polytechnic since its creation.”

The SSANIP chairman said it was unpopular for the governing council to decide to privatise the staff school, when the school is performing optimally in both academics and extra-curricular activities.

Education is a social responsibility and not a profit-making venture,” he said.

Olowolade added that it was unfair for the management and the governing council to treat the staff of the polytechnic staff school negatively at the crucial period of their careers.
