Nothing like safe investment in this world.... Is it bonds, stocks mutual funds or treasury bills..... As far as it is subject to inflation then it's not safe.....
Instead of putting ur money in so called "safe investment" handled by "professionals" who only handle it because of their own pockets....
Learn to invest ur money in other people's business if u don't have time or build one urself....
Note all investment are subject to risk.... Ur business or investment can fail if not watched properly....

Advice: don't diversify.... Put all ur eggs in one basket and guard that basket jealously
Thank you for airing your view smiley
When I say safe, I mean investments that give peace of mind
We all differ you know.
Not everyone is cut out for business.
Some people have gotten their fingers burnt by investing in someone else's business.

Why not allow professionals handle your funds for you in a way that gives you rest of mind.
You can even invest and manage your funds yourself in some cases

The interest rates you'll be getting would definitely be better than leaving your funds in a savings account.

FBN Today

181 days - 12.5

195 days - 12.3

363 days - 13.9

My question though, how does FBN and GT have 363 days if 364 days failed yesterday? huh

brainhack:
Please what’s your take on Axa-mansard’s Annual management fee (1.25%). Is it on the interest accrued or it includes the principal.

1.25% of N5,000,000 = N62,500
1.25% of N10,000,000 = N125,000
1.25% of N50,000,000 = N625,000

If its includes the principle hmmm. What happens if MM instruments stays on course with this nose dive and lands between 6-8%. We would surely feel that 1.25% oo.

Anybody that has the answer should please clarify.
I haven't been with them for up to a year but I sent an email and here's the response;

The rates published for the Money Market fund are net of fees and the management fee is accrued for daily and deducted before income is distributed to your account.

There are no further charges passed to your account once the net income is distributed each day.
InvestmentRe: Mutual Funds by beyolah: 10:34pm On Aug 16, 2018
I have a Stanbic MMF account and Axamansard.
To be sincere, I'm enjoying Axamansard more.

*I did everything online; opening account, submitting my documents and funding my account. They also have an app.

*I've made withdrawals and I get them before 24hours.
My first withdrawal dropped in my account on the same day.
My last withdrawal request was at night, I got the money after close of work the next day
They treat withdrawal requests that come in after 1:30pm the next day

*They respond promptly to emails and I've even requested a call back, which they did. Infact, my line didn't go through so they sent an email requesting for alternate number to reach me on.

The only but so far is that when I try to top up my account through the app, they include some transaction charges. To avoid this, I use their web page, I discovered its free from the webpage .

Hello house.
When a bond is listed on the NSE like the FGN savings bond listed above, can an individual only purchase a number of units or all units have to be bought by the same person?
With the little I know, I feel that like shares, an individual can buy according to his/her purchasing power.

The gurus in the house should please correct me if I'm wrong.

spenca:
Hello fam , the quoted price is what you pay for the bond , either a discount price or premium depending on what you find. You pay the exact price that is quoted and you have no business paying any accrued interest. If the quoted price is 90 then you pay 90 per unit of 100 per value for the total number of units you need. At maturity you get 100 per values of a unit of the FGS. So if you buy at a discounted price of 90 today at time maturity you get a 100 per value and of course your coupon as at when due.

What savings bond are you looking for and how many units do you intend on acquiring ?
Thank you for the reply.
I asked the questions to understand the quote and it's implications better.
InvestmentRe: Bonds Investors Hub by beyolah(op): 9:18pm On Jun 19, 2018
ImperialCovfefe:
1) FGN savings bond series 2.

2) Yes.

3) Yes.

4) You would get the full face value corresponding to the units bought. But please remember that there is a clean and dirty price for bonds - you would have to pay the seller the accrued coupon uptil that point. You can search it up.

Also note that the secondary market liquidity is thin. So it may take some time to get the necessary units required.

Regards, bro.
Thank you for the prompt response
I don't understand paying the seller the accrued coupon.
I assumed I would buy through my stockbroker since it's listed on NSE (meaning I won't have anything to do with the seller)
Is this assumption wrong?
InvestmentRe: Bonds Investors Hub by beyolah(op): 8:50pm On Jun 19, 2018
Hello investors
I was going through CSCS daily listing and saw this quote

Symbol. Security. Opening price Closing price

FGS2019S2 12.794% FGS APR 2019 90.00 90.00.

1) Is this a FGN savings bond or FGN bond?
2) Would it mature, or the tenor end by April 2019
3) With the quoted price, can I assume that the original price was N100 but it's now being sold at a discount?
4) If 3 is yes, assuming I buy 10 units now, when it matures, would I be getting N1000 rather than N900?

Thank you.

Are we to state our bid for FGN Bonds?
InvestmentRe: Bonds Investors Hub by beyolah(op): 11:48pm On May 25, 2018
awesomeJ:
Why do I consider this thread timely?
At 10% discount, T-bills aren't anymore as attractive as they used to be. Stock market? Not the right time now. Yet I saw a bond with a 17% yield and another with a 19% yield on the FMDQ's daily quotation list last week. So I wanna find out if these instruments are accessible, so I don't miss out on available opportunities. Right thinking shey?
Very right thinking, infact, correct thinking!
Please let us know how it goes.

Many thanks beyolah for opening this thread.
Perhaps I could suggest that we modify the topic to imply a broader scope. FGN bonds are just one form.

I'd also like us to consider:
Corporate bonds (some currently have yields above 17%);
Eurobonds;
state government bonds;
and bond mutual funds.

Our aim I guess will include maximising the returns on our investment portfolios.
Thanks for the suggestion.
Like you mentioned, our aims definitely includes maximising the returns on our investment portfolios.

Here are some ideas
1) Investing in bonds
2) Investing in FGN Bonds and others
3) Investing in every kind of bond
4) Bond investors

Which do you think would be most suitable?

*feeddhung:
Also, i have never invested in bonds, how or where do we get that? What is the current rate please?

ahiboilandgas:
Go to bank it around 13.8 now it was 15.54 b4 u get coupon payment bi annually for it duration some can be 10 years u don turn federal govt worker be that.

*Gavrelino123:
lol...."federal government worker"..
Also,memember that it's a minimum of 50Million.

ahiboilandgas:
no is for bond ....as little as 10 k for saving bond which coupons is paid .every 3 month .....50 m is for biding direct in primary market of treasury bills...bond give more stable income over time cos u can lock fund at 16.5 last year for 5 years ....the rate don't change(interest paid) till maturity ...but there is risk of other instruments going up and leaving u at 16.5 but u can trade ur bond too

*ImperialCovfefe:
Bro,

Have you actually purchased an FGN (not savings) bond recently (after April 2017)?

ahiboilandgas:
they are all FGN bonds... saving ,green .2020,2030 last time i bought was in 2016 ....minimum is 10 k as written on the form on debt management office website

*Gavrelino123:
That's good....did you purchase the BOND through your bank or a discount house..?
My knowledge on Federal Government Bond is limited academically......I don't have any practical knowledge about it...
Kindly enlightened me the processes on how to Suscribe for it...
Explain it in stages....
Thanks..

ahiboilandgas:
bank ...u can download it form from the debt magntment office website fill and submit to participating banks . I have some runing till 2030..@15.54....mix up your investment (bond,tb )for stability ....all fixed income investor (banks discount houses and pension company) have the mix....best strategy....use coupon payment to buy treasury bill .....this immune u from price drop
gtb@ 15.54 2020

*spenca:
These banks put a limit to the principal they take for bonds due to the longtivity of the asset. They try to avoid traders buying the instrument rather than investors. If you want to purchase the FGN bonds you may approach a house to buy from the secondary market for you if you do not meet the criteria of your commercial bank. Bonds are traded daily and sometimes you may get investors willing to share part of their bonds which may match the principal which you intend to invest. The beauty of bond is the steady stream of inflow quarterly or bi-annually which can be further invested in other assets T-bills or equities.
Download the form from DMO and take it to your commercial bank. It is best you emphasized it is FGN BONDS and not FGN SAVINGS BONDS these are two different instruments

Gavrelino123:
Thanks.....but how's the interest calculated..?using 10m for example at an interest rate of 15%.
what are the taxes like compared to TB.?l

 confluence:
That should be #750k biannual, making it#1.5M for one year

awesomeJ:
T- bills and bonds are tax free till 2021. Hopefully, the waiver will get extended beyond then.
