Blackdeewhy:It was either Tinubu or PO/Atiku It was a choice between bad and worse and I do not regret my support of Jagaban. the comportment of the Zombidients was worse than that of the jagabandits. Jagabandits were at least, civil and logical to a good extent. |
Russia hasn't even started anything yet. |
beerfraud:It's his Biafra that'll catch fire. |
WriiterNig:Democrats and Republicans are useful tools to keep the US divided. US (the West generally) is indeed in decline...much more rapidly than it should. A nation divided amongst itself cannot rise. The major beneficiaries of the chaos/division in the US is China/Russia and off course, the majority of the world's population that has for years lived under the yoke of Western neocolonialsts imperialism. |

The new settlement framework is expected to benefit Tanzanian businesses and banks by allowing for seamless payment in domestic currencies, while also providing greater exchange rate predictability and reducing the need for currency conversion. In a move that could have far-reaching implications for the economies of Tanzania and India, the two nations have agreed to a new bilateral trade settlement arrangement that allows them to use their own currencies in transactions, the High Commission of India in Dar es Salaam said in a press release. The new bilateral trade settlement arrangement allows for the use of the Tanzanian shilling and Indian rupee in transactions. India is one of Tanzania's largest trading partners, with bilateral trade valued at 10.4 trillion Tanzanian shillings (about $4.5 billion) for the year ending March 2022, according to the Indian commission. Between April 2021 and March 2022, Tanzania's exports to India were estimated at 5.1 trillion Tanzanian shillings (about $2.2 billion), while the East African country's imports from the South Asian country were about 5.3 trillion shillings (about $2.3 billion), according to the Dar es Salaam-based commission. Tanzanian banks and businesses will now be able to make full use of the new trade framework, allowing for seamless payment in domestic currencies, said Binaya Pradhan, India's high commissioner to Tanzania. The Indian official expects that the use of local currencies will not only conserve foreign exchange, but also boost bilateral trade. "There is a huge potential for our trade to grow. We are expecting our trade volume to cross $6 billion (Sh13.8 trillion) this year," Pradhan told Tanzanian media. Tanzania exports minerals, particularly gold, and agricultural products to India, while India exports petroleum products, medicines, and engineering goods to the African country According to Donath Olomi, a trade and economist, using local currencies in trade transactions will help Tanzania avoid using dollars from its foreign currency reserves, boosting exchange rate predictability, which is critical in international trade. "Unlike the use of dollars, of which we don’t have control over, with the use of local currencies there will be predictability because in the process, we can fix the exchange rate," the expert told Tanzanian news outlet The Citizen. "The use of local currencies will also simplify business transactions and cut bank charges since there will be no need to convert your currency into dollars." The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has authorized banks in India to open Special Rupee Vostro Accounts (SRVA) in Tanzania, according to a press release posted on the Indian High Commission's website. Tanzanian banks will be required to open SRVAs in India by approaching authorized Indian banks, which will, in turn, approach the RBI for approval with details of the agreement. The Bank of Baroda, which operates branches in Tanzania, has received the RBI's approval for opening SRVAs for its foreign branches and subsidiaries in various countries, including Tanzania, the press release added. This mechanism is now applicable to 18 countries, including Kenya, Uganda, Botswana, Mauritius, Seychelles, Fiji, Germany, Guyana, Israel, Malaysia, Myanmar, New Zealand, Oman, Russia, Seychelles, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and the United Kingdom. The Indian High Commission is set to hold a stakeholders' consultation meeting on March 24 to reveal details of the bilateral trade mechanism using local currencies. https://sputniknews.com/20230318/tanzania--india-switch-from-us-dollar-to-local-currencies-in-bilateral-trade-1108545100.html

Members of the Youth League and students are “incensed by the US imperialists’ provocation,” the Korean Central News Agency has said Hundreds of thousands of young people in the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea have expressed willingness to enlist in the armed forces, the country’s Korean Central News Agency (KCNA) reported on Saturday. The outlet said this was due to aggressive US posturing toward North Korea, which was “reaching the limit that can no longer be tolerated.” The KCNA claimed that on Friday alone “over 800,000 Youth League officials and young students across the country ardently petitioned for enlistment and military service in the People’s Army.” According to the report, that number “continues to increase throughout the country.” The state-run outlet named Kim Il-sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology, Hamhung University of Chemical Technology, and Nampo Normal University among the educational facilities where students have volunteered to serve in the military. The young people’s “zeal” comes at a time when American “war maniacs” as well as “their puppet traitors,” – an apparent reference to South Korea – were embarking on an effort to destroy the North, the agency said. The report accused the two allies of “aggressively violating” Pyongyang’s sovereignty and security interests “to the greatest extent in history.” On Thursday, North Korean Supreme Leader Kim Jong-un oversaw the launch of a Hwasong-17 intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM), saying the show of force was intended to “strike fear into enemies” and to “deter war,” as quoted by the KCNA. Pyongyang conducted three other ballistic missile tests earlier this week. Explaining the need for the uptick in testing, Kim cited American and South Korean “open hostility toward the DPRK” which has manifested itself in the two nations staging “reckless” and “large-scale” exercises on the Korean Peninsula. Pyongyang has repeatedly stated that it views such drills by Washington and Seoul as preparation for an attack. Codenamed ‘Freedom Shield,’ the maneuvers kicked off on Monday and are set to continue into next week. The two allies have described the drill as the largest of its kind in five years, and blamed the North for destabilizing actions they say warrant increased readiness. The US and South Korea have already held several other military exercises this year, some of them involving B-52H strategic bombers. https://www.rt.com/news/573182-north-korea-youths-volunteer-military/ BidenDTrounce: MetroLane: Topmaike007:

PREV Thread: Train Carrying Coal Derails In Nebraska, US https://www.nairaland.com/7579497/train-carrying-coal-derails-nebraska Greeks Bemoan Aging Infrastructure, Maintenance Issues in Wake of Deadly Train Crash Greek citizens blame aging public infrastructure, lackluster maintenance and staff cuts as well as EU-imposed austerity policies for the recent train collision that killed nearly 60 people , according to the people surveyed by Sputnik."Greece has the worse rail network in Europe. The EU has invested hundreds of millions of euros in this field and the rail infrastructure in Greece is as it was 20 years ago, everything works based on verbal interaction between interlocutors when it comes to the rail traffic regulations, there is not even a GPS system to track the trains online like it is in other European countries," Aggeliki, a 34-year-old civil engineer from Crete, explained, while also expressing her anger with the Greek government, which she accuses of not investing in safety systems. She also noted that infrastructure in the areas that are popular with tourists is maintained, while other parts of the country aren't as lucky in that regard despite infrastructure investments from the European Union. This sentiment was echoed by 32-year-old lawyer Nikos, who also drew attention to the fact that "in some other areas public infrastructure is as it was in the sixties, unchanged and this is not something that is acceptable, especially for a country with 13 million visitors per year like Greece is." "I don't think that the level of public infrastructure in Greece is what it should have been for an EU member state. Greece became an EU member state in 1981, since then billions of euros have poured into the economy for infrastructure development, and yet you still see that there are some aspects of public infrastructure untouched and unchanged since the sixties," Nikos said. He also suggested there were signs that the EU funds had been mismanaged for years and it was evident in people's daily life. "You can see and read many times that the EU is funding infrastructure projects worth millions of euros in our country and in some cases we experience that, but as a total outcome, I would say that I don't think that the level of public infrastructure in Greece is what it should have been for an EU member state," Nikos observed. Meanwhile, 56-year-old Cretan bus driver Manolis suggested that the Greek economic crisis played a role, blaming the EU-imposed austerity policies rather than the government for the recent tragedy. He also cited his own experience as a transportation worker, describing the state of the country's infrastructure. "The quality of the asphalt [on the roads] is getting worse and worse and they don't maintain anything properly when it comes to road network anymore (the quality of roads in Lagos island is better than that of Toronto. I've seen better roads in Ikorodu..Saskatchewan and Mantitoba is worse than Ikorodu..Alberta is at the same level with Lagos island). It is only by the fact that people like me and other professionals working in transportation giving our best effort that we don't have more accidents in other fields as well, and this decline started in 2010 with the economic crisis and it hasn't changed since then," Manolis suggested. A retired employee of Hellenic Train S.A. who preferred to remain anonymous recounted that in 2011 and 2012, the company had to lay off many employees, thus doubling the number of daily tasks for the staff that remained. "However, to my knowledge, I can't say that there was any mismanagement or any sort of bad training for the employees, but the main problem ,at least in my view and in my experience, was the fact that many people were fired during this period and this brought adjustments to the remaining staff," the pensioner stated. At the same time, the former employee remembered regular training for employees as well as high safety standards during their tenure. On March 1, a passenger train collided with a freight train near the Greek city of Larissa. The passenger train had switched to the freight train's lane before the accident, which brought them both on the same track and resulted in a deadly head-on collision. The head of Larissa station was arrested. According to media reports, he admitted his guilt and said that he had mistakenly sent a passenger train along the wrong track. Railroad workers, in turn, talked about chronic safety issues that the authorities have been ignoring for years. The Greek government has vowed to fully investigate the causes of the disaster. https://sputniknews.com/20230318/greeks-bemoan-aging-infrastructure-maintenance-issues-in-wake-of-deadly-train-crash-1108527314.html Stories like this makes me proud of Nigeria's diminutive progress.
