I'm sorry for offending the intelligence of a few minority of people in the Nairaland audience by overestimating their mental capacity. I deeply regret this erroneous action. I'm remorseful and I'll do my best to make amends (although I was already covered by someone with a good knowledge of history, nevertheless.....look down). ![]() Over 90000 Ukrainian Militants Killed As Zelensky Loses Artyomovsk (a.k.a Ukrainian Stalingrad). Zelensky Clings to Artemovsk to Show Hefty Western Military Aid ‘Not in Vain,’ Russian Analyst Says Despite huge losses in terms of men and materiel in Artemovsk, Ukrainian forces are desperately trying to hold onto the town because Kiev apparently wants to justify incessant and hefty deliveries of Western military aid to Ukraine, military expert and political analyst Ivan Konovalov told Sputnik. A German newspaper recently reported that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny have "fundamentally different views" on the situation in the town of Artemovsk, known in Ukraine by its pre-Soviet name Bakhmut. While Zaluzhny insists on the retreat of Ukrainian forces from Artemovsk "for tactical reasons", Kiev authorities adhere to the stance that it’s necessary to hold on to the town, according to the newspaper. "[...] The Ukrainian leadership, and especially Mr. Zelensky, who needs to prove to the West that the Ukrainian forces can still surprise and demonstrate that Western military aid is not in vain," cannot but cling to Artemovsk, Konovalov said. When asked why Ukrainian troops continue to hold on to the town despite their huge losses there, the Russian military expert said that "Mr. Zelensky does not care about the Armed Forces of Ukraine’s casualties." (I don't care too..Russia should wipe out all of them)."His task is to show to his [Western] curators that this or that settlement is still under Ukrainian forces’ control. And at what cost it takes place is all the same to him. He is only interested in one thing: his image in front of Western curators and arms suppliers, because it is related to how long he will be at the helm of Ukraine," Konovalov pointed out. He added that "on the other hand, Zaluzhny knows full well that from a strategic point of view," the possible fall of Artemovsk "can result in a catastrophe that will shake the entire central frontline.” Konovalov suggested that Kiev’s main problem in Artemovsk is that “a political necessity has clashed with military expediency.” According to the expert, “the situation [in the town] is obvious and the fall of Artemovsk is a foregone conclusion." The remarks followed the Wagner private military group announcing last week that they had surrounded Artemovsk, located in Donbass, following months of fighting that has taken a heavy toll on Kiev's forces, developments that come amid Russia's ongoing special military operation in Ukraine. https://sputniknews.com/20230306/zelensky-clings-to-artemovsk-to-show-hefty-western-military-aid-not-in-vain-russian-analyst-says-1108084539.html |
Zelensky at odds with top general Commander Zaluzhny called for a withdrawal from a key city, but the president has refused, the newspaper reported. An internal conflict is underway between Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky and General Valery Zaluzhny, commander-in-chief of the armed forces, according to government sources cited by Bild on Monday. Kiev insiders told the German tabloid that the military commander called for a withdrawal from a key Donbass city weeks ago. Zaluzhny advised the president to abandon Artyomovsk, known as Bakhmut in Ukraine, rather than keep defending it as Russian troops threatened to take control of the city, the newspaper reported. However the Ukrainian leader declared the city a fortress, and refused to pull troops back. Russian forces have made notable advances in the fight for Artyomovsk this year. Yevgeny Prigozhin, the head of the private military company Wagner Group, claimed last Friday that it was “de-facto completely surrounded,” with only one road available for possible evacuation. According to US media, Washington has been urging Zelensky to pull out of Artyomovsk and focus on preparing a major counteroffensive for the spring using Western-supplied weapons, but the Ukrainian president fears a morale hit that such a move would cause. The city is part of a 70km Ukrainian defense line created since Kiev initiated the fighting in Donbass in 2014. US officials have assessed that its loss to Russia would not affect the strategic situation. Bild sources claimed that Ukrainian troops on the ground in Artyomovsk “do not understand why the city is being held” and believe they should have withdrawn a long time ago. Zelensky recently stated that Ukrainian forces would defend it as long as it “remains reasonable” to do so. The German tabloid also noted that Zaluzhny’s popularity for leading the military campaign against Russia makes him a viable challenger to Zelensky in a potential presidential run. The general has not publicly announced any ambition to run for office, but rumors have been circulating in Ukraine for months regarding Zelensky’s concerns over possible competition. ![]() https://www.rt.com/russia/572519-zelensky-zaluzhny-artyomovsk-defense/

The Chinese currency has outperformed the greenback by volume of trading on the Moscow Exchange for the first time on record India’s Imports Of Russian Oil Hit Record High – Media https://www.nairaland.com/7597748/indias-imports-russian-oil-hit The Chinese yuan has overtaken the US dollar as the most traded currency on the Russian stock market for the first time ever, business daily Kommersant reported on Monday. According to the outlet’s estimates, based on data from the Moscow Exchange (MOEX), the yuan was the most traded currency in February, displacing the US dollar from the top spot. Statistics showed that, over the month, the volume of Chinese currency trading exceeded 1.48 trillion rubles ($19.6 billion), which is one-third higher than in January. The volume of transactions with the dollar also increased in February, but only by 8% to 1.42 trillion rubles ($18.8 billion). As a result, the yuan accounted for almost 40% of the total volume of trading in major currencies, the dollar’s share was just over 38%, while the euro stood at 21.2%. To compare, the greenback’s trading volume a year ago accounted for 87.6%, the euro for 11.9%, while the yuan for just 0.32%. Such changes increasingly reflect Russia’s withdrawal from transactions in “unfriendly” currencies against the backdrop of expanding EU and US sanctions, Kommersant wrote. Meanwhile, Chinese customs data shows trade turnover between Beijing and Moscow over the past year increased by 29.3%, exceeding $190 billion. About half of Russia’s trade turnover with China is in rubles and yuan, according to chief analyst at Sovcombank Mikhail Vasilyev. Some large Russian companies have already completely switched to trading in yuan with China, some still maintain the parity of the Chinese currency with the dollar. We expect that the share of national currencies used in trade with China will increase in the coming months,” Vasilyev told Kommersant. The continuing risks of Western sanctions on the Moscow Exchange and the National Clearing Center, as well as the de-dollarization policy pursued by the Bank of Russia, also contribute to the decline in demand for the currency of unfriendly countries,” Vasilyev explained. Chief analyst at PSB Egor Zhilnikov believes that over time the yuan will gradually become a more liquid currency against the background of both the continued de-dollarization of the Russian economy and the shift in household demand to Asian currencies. Trading volumes on the Russian stock market will rise both in the settlements for ‘tomorrow’ and ‘today,’ he predicted. https://www.rt.com/business/572520-yuan-dollar-russian-market/

ExudeLoveToAll:I have no qualms with you but it'll be a disservice to society if statements that are intended to stoke confusion (such as the one you made) are allowed to anchor on a thread where Nairalanders who are unfamiliar with the subject being discussed are exposed to the risk of being misguided. Your statement is motivated by malice laced in ignorance. What he said was well received, understood and validated by historical evidence. |
We need a formal test of popularity of the Biafran question amongst igbos. IPOB militant movement is not the solution. It's a terror/criminal movement. Do majority of Igbos want to secede or is the conception of seccession just propagated by a few igbo mischief makers? I'm pro Russia, I support the right to self determination of the Ukrainian people of Russian descent in the Donbass Republics (formerly part of Ukraine) so it'll be hypocritical of me to apply a different language towards the igbos in Nigeria. Crimea had a referendum and there was the Minsk agreement (read about it if you don't know it). Russia's Special Military Operation (which is warranted) in Ukraine began due to failures to implement the Minsk agreement. IPOBs miscreants can't just wake up and start causing trouble without justifiable reasons. First, form a political party then elect your members to gubernatorial positions in your territory. Afterwards, let these governors (after selecting a chairman amongst themselves) organize a referendum and let's know what the Igbos want. It's your right..you can decide to stay in Nigeria and you can decide otherwise. If secession receives overwhelming support (through the referendum) then you should exploit every means to secede. The Nigerian government and the international community must listen to you or we can throw the UN away since it's clear that it's an impotent organization and it's just like Nigerian laws (they exist in theory but not in practice). At that time, if you decide that violence is the key (if Nigeria/UN fails to yield to your legitimate demand) you're actually justified. Engage in violence if you know you're prepared and you can handle it or else, it'll just be a repetition of the civil war (you know how that ended). If you miss all these steps and jump straight to violence, you're a trouble makers and you should be shot on sight. |
