MODULE 6: STRUCTURING THE BUSINESS OF YOUR EXPERTISE

I want to believe you are learning from this training so far.

In this module, I will show you how to structure the business of your expertise at the barest minimum for you to get started.

Let me share a story to illustrate this point.

I belong to a facebook group called Headstart Africa (Formerly SmartBCamp). About two years ago, the founder of the group (John Obidi) usually held a Community Question and Answer session once in a while. This session allows members of the community to ask questions while he provides answers to them live.

During this particular session I'm going to talk about, I didn't attend it live.

The next day after the session, I went to the post and looked at various questions that weren't answered and began to provide answers to the ones I was an expert in. For the ones I wasn't knowledgeable about, I pointed the persons who asked questions in the direction of other resource persons who could provide what they needed.

That day I remember quite well. I was all over that post - providing answers, insights and help as it related to my fields of expertise.

Guess what happened?

I began to get a lot of friend request.

From one of those who sent me a friend request, she asked me to consult for her Honey Business.

I billed her and she paid after some days and up till today, she's still my client (over two years now).

Having a structure for the business of your expertise is very good.

Let me tell you what you need to do.

1. Have something free you can always give out (a guide, report, FAQs, video training, etc). This will help create an authority status for you anything anyone requests for what you do or needs your services.

2. Have a basic product you can sell - it can be a mini video training course, an ebook, etc. This shouldn't be too expensive for your target audience.

3. Create consulting/coaching/service/product packages - Like the usual Chidi Restaurant, a plate of garri with one piece of beef can be N400/N500 (depending on the location) while a plate of that same garri with two pieces of beef can be N600 and above. So, you need to create a pricing structure around your expertise.

4. Don't be ever afraid to serve your clients with your pricing structure. It's just like a menu in a restaurant, people will pick the one they can afford or like.

MODULE 5: LOCATING YOUR TARGET AUDIENCE

This is not a walk in the park.

If you truly desire to make money from your expertise aside your monthly salary, you must be ready to put in the work.

Your expertise business can replace your salaried job if you are ready to make it work.

The fulfillment you are seeking for might lie in the business of your expertise.

In this module, I will share with you practical things you need to do in order to find those who need your expertise.

Please note, as an expert in your field of knowledge, people will look up to you as the solution to the problems they have.

Here we go;

1. Go to facebook.com and using the search feature, search for keywords that are related to your target audience.

For example, if my expertise is targeted at female business owners, see the picture below for what I did.

2. Join facebook groups that are relevant to your field of expertise.

3. Just like I am doing in this thread in this career section of Nairaland, search for sections within forums that pertain to what your expertise is. There was a time I was offering CV Writing Services (I still do) here on Nairaland and basically targeted fresh graduates and corps members. So, locate sections where your target audience is and get a feel of what obtains in the section.

4. Create your own facebook group, whatsapp group to give out your expertise for free. You can create your own facebook group or whatsapp group and invite people to join in and then you begin to teach what you know consistently. I have a facebook group called Skill Mastery Community where I teach what I know consistently.

5. You can also go to twitter and begin to follow relevant people..search for keywords related to your field of expertise.

Whatever you do, people will talk - that's a certainty. So, go ahead and do what needs to be done.

Rule 2: Don't be afraid of sharing your story.

In my second post in this training, I talked about myself spending 11 years and 8 months in the university before I graduated. Guess what? I graduated with a third class. Look, the world needs authentic people. Not all this fake it till you make it facade being peddled here and there.

To become an attractive character, you need to share your failures, your challenges and even your mistakes. People love authenticity and want to see the 'human' in you, they want to see the original you.

This is one of the rules you must follow if you want to become an attractive character.

Rule 3: Be Consistent

You need to be consistent with sharing your knowledge, expertise, etc on the platforms where you can find your ideal customers. It could be in facebook groups, forums like this, twitter, instagram, etc. If you want people to believe you for who you really are and what you know, consistency is a very important thing you must continue to use.


Rule 4: Care For Your Prospects A Lot

This is one of the major things I mentioned at the beginning of this training. Selling your expertise is a people's business i.e. it is a human-to-human connection. You must care a lot for your customers. You mustn't just be interested in what you want to get from them. You must strive to create a bond, a relationship, a connection so strong that they believe in you and whatever it is you are teaching them.

I am following this rule by teaching you what I know with the whole of my heart without expecting any return.

I may decide to organize an online training later on, and you may decide to attend or not.

And that's fine with me.

I have an abundant mindset.

I am caring for you, teaching you all of these because I want you to be better.

You can actually put all what I'm showing you here into practise and better your life.
