Two men will become the first gay couple to wed in France, just days after President Francois Hollande signed the same-sex marriage bill into law. Vincent Austin and Bruno Boileau will tie the knot in the southern city of Montpellier amid tight security. Mr Hollande has warned he will not accept any disruption to the ceremony. The new legislation has proved controversial and sparked violent protests. The anti-gay marriage lobby, backed by the Catholic Church and conservative opposition, argues the bill undermines an essential building block of society. The Socialist mayor of Montpellier will pronounce the couple "husband and husband" at 15:30 GMT (16:30 BST) on Wednesday. Mr Austin, a 40-year-old gay rights activist, met his 30-year-old partner in 2006. Some 600 guests have been invited and 150 media crews accredited for the ceremony, the BBC's Christian Fraser, in Paris, reports. Extra police have been drafted in, as the extreme-right might also be in attendance, our correspondent adds. On Sunday, at least 150,000 demonstrators took to the streets of Paris to denounce the same-sex marriage bill, which was signed into law on 18 May. Earlier, the Constitutional Council ruled that same-sex marriage "did not run contrary to any constitutional principles," and that it did not infringe on "basic rights or liberties or national sovereignty". Some officials said they had a conscientious objection to carrying out gay wedding ceremonies. "I will find a balance between freedom of conscience and breaking the law," said Philippe Brillaut, the Mayor of Le Chesnau in western Paris. "We will retain our freedom while respecting the law - and that is in no way homophobic. And I will delegate any marriage to a socialist councillor who has agreed to conduct them." But it is not clear what will happen if, in smaller communes, all officials are against gay marriage and refuse to take part, correspondents say. Mr Hollande and his governing Socialist Party have made the legislation their flagship social reform since being elected a year ago. Opinion polls have suggested that about 55-60% of French people support gay marriage, but only about 50% approve of gay adoption. France is now the 14th country to legalise gay marriage after New Zealand last month. It is also the ninth country in Europe to allow same-sex marriage after legalisation in the traditionally liberal Netherlands and Scandinavia, but also in strongly Catholic Portugal and Spain. Legislation is also moving through the UK Parliament. Source: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-22706351

A 25-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after his girlfriend claims she saw him remove their infant daughter from the freezer, where he’d placed her in an apparent attempt to stop the child’s crying. Doctors believe the child is fine and will suffer no long-term effects, but that wasn’t clear at the time. The child was rushed to the hospital where doctors discovered she had a body temperature of just 84 degrees. Tyler Deutsch was arrested and charged with suspicion of attempted murder, according to Washington Fox affiliate KCPQ. Authorities said they believe the child was in the freezer for up to one hour. It is a miracle the baby is still alive, Glory to God! Source: http://www.informationng.com/2013/05/man-puts-baby-in-freezer-for-one-hour-to-stop-her-from-crying.html

The troops deployed to flush out Boko Haram insurgents from Adamawa, Borno and Yobe states, yesterday, encountered intense resistance from sect members who were armed with sophisticated weapons from Libya. This came as the National Assembly, yesterday, endorsed the proclamation of a state of emergency in the three states by President Goodluck Jonathan. A senior military official told The Guardian of London that “they (Islamist militants) have been putting up fierce resistance and they are very, very well-armed with weapons from Libya.” He said most of the militants who have waged a bloody four-year battle to create an Islamist state had scattered across the semi-desert borders. A renewed military campaign, including aerial bombardments of Boko Haram training camps in the three states declared under emergency rule this month, has led to the capture of almost 200 militants and the death of dozens in a week, according to the military. In one raid, a helicopter gunship was hit by anti-aircraft and anti-tank fire, a military source said. However, a resident of the besieged states said:“It’s only by the goodwill of soldiers and by virtue of my position that I was able to leave the city. All the entry points to and from Maiduguri are blocked by the military but they let me through.” Outside the city walls, he said, trucks carrying food and market produce were lined up awaiting entrance. “We have been used to seeing soldiers and checkpoints for the past two years in Maiduguri, but it is having a real impact on the economic activity,” he added. In Maiduguri, where militants are deeply enmeshed in the population, soldiers carrying out house-to-house searches after placing a 24-hour curfew in some neighbourhoods discovered stockpiles of weapons including rocket-propelled grenades, a defence spokesperson said. The duo of Super Eagles attacking midfielders Victor Moses and Kalu Uche have opted out of Super Eagles May 31 Friendly and the hectic June schedule of matches. Moses and Uche will not be available for Super Eagles friendly match against the Tricolores of Mexico on May 31, in Texas, Houston, United States of America. They will also miss out of June’s crucial World Cup qualifying matches against Kenya and Namibia, as well as the 2013 FIFA Confederations Cup in Brazil. Uche, in his message to head coach Stephen Keshi claimed that he has been playing with injury for some time now in the Turkish League and in line with his Doctor’s advice, would want to use the off- season period for treatment and recuperation. Victor Moses has also dropped out in order to treat a recurring injury and will not be fit in time for the World Cup qualifiers and the Confederation Cup. However, his club Chelsea has disclosed that Moses will be with the squad for their pre- season tour of United States to be monitored closely by doctors but would not participate actively in the games. Keshi considers the timing of the whole development wrong and also believes the players should have alerted him earlier on, but said he has quality players who will execute the job at hand. “We have the players to deliver the World Cup ticket and to make Nigerians proud in Brazil,” the Super Eagles handler said. http://www.informationng.com/2013/05/moses-and-uche-opts-out-of-nigeria-mexico-friendlies-world-cup-qualifiers-and-confederations-cup.html Well, I strongly believe we can achieve so many goodies with the available guys we have. ![]() |

lain: Isreal the most aggressive country on planet earth, they want to rule the middle east. Iraq has been conquered, afghanistan partially, now its syria even if syria falls (which may not happen) iran would not and for iran to fall, the despotic kingdoms of bharain, s.arabia, qatar etc wuld all fall infact the whole of m.east wuld shake. If isreal thinks it can defeat iran then they are in dreamlandRemember they were the first to hit before they (Israel) retaliated precisely, so looking at the fact that they are yet to be conquered would actually create so much foes within the region (middle east). |
Israeli and Syrian forces have exchanged fire across the ceasefire line in the occupied Golan Heights. Israel returned fire after one of its military vehicles was hit by shots from Syria, Israel's defence forces say. Media reports say no-one was hurt. Syria says it destroyed an Israeli vehicle which it says crossed the ceasefire line into territory its forces control. Syria and Israel have traded fire a number of times in recent weeks. The Israeli military said its troops "returned precise fire" after the vehicle was hit. A statement from the Syrian army said it had "destroyed an Israeli vehicle with everything that it had in it". The statement said the vehicle was shot after it crossed the ceasefire line and headed towards the rebel-held village of Bir Ajam. Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has previously accused Israel of aiding the rebels, but has not provided substantive evidence. Syrian gunfire has hit the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights in two previous incidents this week, without causing injury. There have been sporadic exchanges of fire between the two sides in recent months. Tensions between Israel and Syria have soared this year, with Israel allegedly carrying out three air strikes on Syria to stop the transfer of advanced weapons to the militant Islamist movement Hezbollah in Lebanon. Syrian shells have hit Israeli positions on the Golan Heights, though it is unclear whether they were aimed at rebels in border areas, and Israel has returned fire. Syria and Israel have been in a state of war since 1948 but the border had been relatively calm in recent years. Israel has occupied the Golan Heights since the 1967 war. It annexed the territory in 1981, in a move that has not been recognised by the international community. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-22608489 |
