I use a 307, the fuel economy is really good, Though the maintenance really depends on how you treat it. Is it the 1.4, 1.6 or 2.0 Engine you are going for? |

So Moral of the story is, Wherever you are, never forget savings & investments.. They helped yous Shell friend transition faster from employee to self-employed/business owner AjanleKoko: I think most people didn't get my point. Only this fella with the censored name did:
My point is, people assume that starting your own business is a guarantee to wealth and success. It's not. Whether you are in paid employment or starting your own business, the goal should be financial independence. Make solid investments, even as an employee, and one day you will not need to work again.
I have this friend who worked in Shell for ten years, and one day realized he was worth about $1m in investments and holdings, even as an employee. In the 10 years, he sunk his money into property, stocks, various securities, an annuity, and various other investments that did not necessarily require day to day management. So, guess what he did? He quit. Nowadays, he lives on his own time, speculates on this and that, does business or consulting that catches his fancy, and is not under any pressure. He's no Jay Z, but he can afford vacations anytime, sends his kids to good schools, and generally lives a comfortable life. |

Business › Re: Is Financial Independence Truly Linked to Self-Employment? by bigx(m): 8:40pm On Apr 16, 2012 |
AjanleKoko: I would say no. To be considered as truly 'self-employed', you have to first be financially independent. Hehehe. Sounds like it's mixed up? Nah. I meant it exactly the way I said it. People claim that self-employment is the key to financial freedom. However, after careful consideration, I would have to differ. It is actually the opposite.
What most people call self-employment is what I would term 'auxiliary' or 'independent' employment, i.e. you are employed indirectly by the system, as a kind of contract worker. Unlike people who are official employees, you have to work for ALL of your earnings, get no paid vacations, no medical benefits, access to credit, etc. It's kind of like in the past, when our ancestors tilled the land and had to live off it. They were independent, yeah, but they had to work for their earnings.
I say, you only become an employee of yourself when you stop being dependent on others for your daily livelihood. A real entrepreneur is an investor in my view. If your investments are able to sustain you, then you begin to have choices.
On the contrary, an employee is actually able to save his earnings, reduce his spending by taking advantage of company benefits, and invest in his future without having to take the trouble of setting up and running a business. Yeah, he won't be no Bill Gates . . . or won't he? Ballmer was after all hired by Bill, and is also a billionaire.
Comments anyone? There is a difference between being self-employed and being a Business Owner, A self-employed person is not much different from a paid employee as he/she still trades time for money. Bill Gates is a Business Owner not self employed (correct me if I'm wrong) A self employed person *must* be around for the Business to function while a Business owner (like Bill Gates You mentioned) can take a vacation and still make Billions in His sleep (through hard-working employees). That is the fastest route to Financial Independence. |

Ikenna351: Friends in USA, via an online forum, directed me to a site where i downloaded it free, together with the workshop manual. But one of them, took time, scanned & forwarded to me, the complete owners manual of the car.
Very soon, anyone that resides in Abuja can bring his or her vehicle for me to scan it FREE for you guys. I will let you guys know when. In a weeks time or so.
Ikenna. Ok, would still search for it, You guys have scared me finally from our so-called electricians. Ah, e be like I'd drive and come to Abuja for the scanning o!!! |
Car Talk › Re: Where Can A Car Be Scanned In Abuja At Reasonable Cost by bigx(m): 3:17pm On Apr 15, 2012 |
Ikenna351: There are so many of them here on NL that scan car in Abuja. You need to google it. I can get you a number from a someone i know that have scanned his car in Abuja twice. Sorry i dont have any of their contacts. I manually diagnose my car myself, even though my car is not OBD II compliant. I would do the same if it was. It helps me a lot to understand my car better, how its wired & how it functions. Even though its a long process (elimination method), but i gain a lot of knowledge of EFI engine management by doing so. Anyway, get yours scanned, to direct you straight to the area of culprit.
In the other thread, you said the car emits black smoke when accelerated or pedal depressed & that it would be raising up & down on its own while idling. Raising up & down means the engine is hunting like Siena pointed out in one of his post in the thread. It also means the ECU is guessing, hence the up & down or unstady idling. The ECU guess work is what causes the engine's overfueling & emitting black smoke. The ECU must be getting a wrong signal or no signal from a sensor that would make it to guess the amount of fuel & air that the injectors would inject into the combustion chambers via intake valves. What usually makes an ECU to make an engine hunt is IAC, vacuum leak or CTS. I would start with the vacuum leak, if i were you.
Ikenna. Please where did you get the wiring diagram of your Car? Ive managed to get the Haynes Manual for mine but the wiring is clearly poorly done and Id like to correct that. |

Do you stock the Peugeot Planet Diagnostics kit? greyBERRY: I drive a Peugeot 406 Prestige 2000 model. Three weeks ago, I came back home and parked, the following morning when I tried to start the car, it started to flash "Engine Immobilizer Fault" on the display and has refused to start ever since.
I have invited to Auto electrician and Auto mechanics since then, but they all seemed to be clueless as me, one even suggesting that I change the engine.
Has any one had a similar experience or know anyone that can help me resolve this problem? You experience, contacts, advice or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. Thanks for your assistance. |

Business › Re: A Failure At 40 by bigx(m): 2:56pm On Apr 10, 2012 |
First step to solving a problem is identifying it. At least you didn't blame evil forces from the village, That's a plus, The first thing I would say is, Change your Friends, move with truly successful people, success is contagious. Second is, setup a business you control fully after careful planning and prayer, Hire the Best People, and monitor them closely, most relatives just come for "Awoof" money in the name of Business. Third, Start a saving plan, I find it hard to save too, so I have this Insurance Savings plan with my Bank where they deduct a specific amount from my account every month. Find a Way to live on maybe 300,000 per month and touch the rest under no account. That money would serve as a cushion in case of any mishap
Fourth, a car is not a sign of achievement so you can manage that for now, get landed property (properly titled) instead, It would always appreciate, unlike the car.
& Finally, stop trying to please everyone. The same people that would praise you to the high heavens for unduly bending over to please them are the same people that would insult you (sometimes to your face) for achieving nothing through your youth. 40 is a beginning,
Wish you the best of luck
[quote author=SKYQUEST Today April 9, 2012, I clock 40 years of age. I am thankful to God for everything but my heart is heavy because I seem to have failed so far! Currently on a monthly salary of =N=440,000 and having worked in paid employments for eight years, I have no house or land of my own, I have a ramshackle looking five years old tokunbo car and a total investment and savings less than =N=200,000 with indebtedness to the tune of a million naira! I am not bewitched or under a spell (I believe) but this failure stems from wrong decisions, unhealthy empathy and sentiments. So far, I have lost about =N=7 million naira in monies invested in the businesses of family members and loan granted to friends to solve their financial problems. These monies are not coming back, they are completely lost! I do not drink or womanise but sometimes wish I do because at least I would have known the bottomless pit that sang my money. I have survived 3 mass sack of staff in the banking industry and I am just wondering what life will look like if eventually I am also asked to go home, moreso, with my wife still struggling in her high risk business venture with a networth of =N=1 million. This is my second attempt at setting her up. I am the eldest in the family of seven (from both sides of my two fathers). 3 members of these families are still in the higher institution and this responsibility is on me. I have 3 kids of my own with the eldest in primary 2. I pay a rent of =N=400,000 annually and really hope I and my family member remain in sound health so that I don’t have to incur any huge health expense. All said and done, I am determined to succeed in this life. Analyse, advice and judge me![/quote] |

I just noticed something like this on my Peugeot 307 on the way back from church today. Accelerating from a stop was practically hell as when I depress the accelerator pedal fully, the engine dies down and attempts to go off, so I'd to pump gradually till i got home. I noticed this some months back and changed the ignition coil and it was a bit better for a few months. |
