This is a short post for Our Moderators /WebMaster on Nairaland.

I think the forum is ripe for a sub-forum dedicated strictly to Auto Enthusiasts for discussions on Car Issues, Reviews and Recommendations on various cars, car modifications, maintenance and the like.

The main Autos forum has been swamped with ads and its almost impossible searching for older posts on the topics above as it takes just an hour or less for them to be relegated to the back pages of the autos forum by new and bumped car ads.

I hope this would be looked into.

Reading from both sides since yesterday, I believe

1.) The driver is at fault for driving an over-heating car, that's what killed the engine. Any novice would be aware that over-heating would blow a car's top gasket but he was probably in a hurry / not aware

2.) The OP was not clear about the previous accident on the car.


@Lekky 2, I think to avoid bad blood, you should accept the full refund you're being offered, there's no point spending on buying a new engine and any further repairs yet bearing a grudge against the seller who's offered a full refund here, if he doesn't have the cash immediately, get a reputable person or lawyer and sign an agreement on the exact time the cash would be paid.

Hi,

Charcoal business, as it is done here is not proper. I was thinking of going into the biz along with a couple of friends. But when I realise the degree of deforestation and environmental degradation going on to produce charcoal for both local and foreign market, I opted out immediately.

No one bothers about re-planting the trees. For every container of charcoal you see going abroad, over 500 or more trees may have been felled down without any consideration of what happens to the environment.

When the trees in one area have been completely depleted, they move to new areas and start all over again and again!

Unfortunately, no one seems to care. Corruption and lawlessness in our country makes such biz thrive unlike in develop countries where you are expected to plant more tree and you dare not cut any tree!

While there is nothing wrong in making money, we should think of the generations coming behind us and do nothing to make life difficult for them.

Let's make the world a better place than we met it. Most countries buying our charcoal have more trees than we do but they prefer to preserve their own.

Ask yourself, when last did you plant a tree?

Coal is a better biz even though this has also contributed to erosion in the east. it is still a lesser evil.

I am a bizman but I am choosy in the line of business I do because I am responsible to God, humanity and the environment. I expect same of every businessman and woman.

Same thing with the timber industry, you can't find commercial trees anymore nowadays to log, I was into the business of sourcing and processing wood from the forest for timber markets early 2010 and quit for more or less the same reason as you.

Ikenna351: The fluid looks rusty because you use water. Flush the rusty colored water out & refill with coolant. Even if you cant afford to fill the cooling system with coolant only, make it 70:30 (coolant -70% & water 30 %). Coolant acts as a lubricant to water pump & prevents the rusty color of fluid in the system. The rusty colored fluid in the radiator, will at some point, clogg radiator & corrode engine walls, which would blow up the head gasket when that happens. The use of water only in cooling system kills both the engine & its cooling system. So if your 307 cooling system takes 5 litres of fluid to refill, buy 3 litres of coolant (probably TOTAL cooalnt) & top up with 2 litres of water, while refilling after flushing. Once you refill with coolant, you will never see the rusty colored fluid in the system again & your water pump will last longer, & finally, no corrosion of engine walls.

I've always seen coolant in the car manual but I always thought it was a cooler way of saying water, lol . Can I get it at any Total filling station? And how much does it cost usually?

Amaizu: Really thought it was going to be as simple as what i have seen them do with Honda radio codes.Peugeot parts dealer?,thats another 5-10k gone.

Try haggling down to like 3k, and maybe look for a dealer in the spare parts market that'd do it cheaper. it doesn't take 5 minutes to get it done.

Ikenna351: A lot coud have caused it.

If air is trapped in a cooling system (airlock), it would always overheat the engine when the fluid in the cooling system warms (airpocket). This usually happens when coolant is drained & refilled without properlly bleeding the system.

If the cooling system thermostat is removed or stuck open, the engine would overheat as soon as it warms & stays long in traffic jam.

If the radiator cap or the expansion coolanat bottle/container cap is not well closed or tight, the coolant will over boil. Likewise if there is leak on any of the cooling system hose or the radiator, the same will happen.

Most Peugeots I know do have bleed screws for bleeding the cooling system. Those that dont have the bleed screws are designed in such away that as you are re-filling the system after flushing, air will be going out of the system as well, and there wont be need for bleeding the system.

I forgot to ask. How fast is the spinning of the fan since you reconnected the fan to factory? Is the speed the same with when it was running constantly?

Why am asking is because if the fan is not fast enough, it wont push or suck heat out of the radiator. Hope no one has tampered with the fan relay.

You guys hit it straight, Honestly we should push for an Auto Enthusiasts/Problems Sub-Forum where all these helpful posts would be moved to as you guys have really saved us a lot of money & headache from mechanics.

I just checked this evening and the issue was as you said, a leakage in my radiator, the heat shield was not properly fixed the last time the mechanic touched the car so it probably, with vibrations from the road, tore the radiator slightly,

I think I would also flush the radiator as cretin said as the fluid inside looks really rusty.

@Ikenna I think the fan still turns normally (same sound)

Oga Ikenna I'm having a new issue with my 307 o!
I complained earlier that a rewire connected my fan directly to my alternator without my knowledge to keep the fan on whenever the engine is on.
I reversed the connection 2 weeks back and the temparature guage is now always roughly at the middle as you said, but I just noticed for the last few days that even though the fan turns once in a while when it should, on especially hot days or when I'm in traffic, at times the fluid in the radiator tank just starts boiling and pours out.
This never happened in over 4 years of using the car, what could be wrong?

What works for me is a a daily planner I take everywhere I go, every evening, I write down what should be accomplished the next day and tick them off as they are completed. Without that, I absolutely suck at time management Not to forget, my bbm and social networking accounts are all turned off when I've something important doing.

Amaizu: I bought a 2006 PAN Assembly Peugeot 406.Strangely this car came with a radio cassette player.I have changed this with a Clarion 406 CD player which i bought from Ladipo,problem is that the radio keeps beeping.Does Peugeot 406 have radio unlock codes.How can i unlock and enjoy this radio.I will appreciate informed advice.

It beeps steadily once every few seconds right? Same thing happened after I changed the ECU on my 307. After changing your radio and other sensitive parts, you need to notify the Car's computer of the new part and input your VIN (Vehicle Identification Number). The beeping would stop at once. Look for a Peugeot only spare parts dealer that owns the diagnostics kit for the car, he should be able to do it for you at a token.
