Carwahala: Help! My camry 2.2 98 model CHECK ENGINE light is on. It idles erratically,stalls and quits at stop signs. If I brake the RPM starts fluctuatin. I changed 02 sensors no way. Changed coil, plug wires, brainbox and injector no way. Two days ago I was told two valves(cylinders) are not firing. I gave them money to it,came back and no change in performance. Any advice guys

blank: I love that 406. It handles like a BMW. It is a big man's car so it is expensive to maintain. My dad had that car for 4 years and never had any issue with it. It is so balanced on the highway. We travelled from Lagos to Abuja and it arrived with half tank.

Unfortunately, he sold it when he acquired a 407 to a punk who had an accident with it within a year. The guy had to sell the car cos when you start having electrical problems with it, na so d issue go dey build up. The 407 does not handle like the 406 at all. I hate the delay before it moves.

Is the 407 auto transmission?

What waas the idea? (Its stolen already so maybe there'd be no harm letting us know) ;-)

snthesis: used a 306 for a while (up for sale at the moment) i must admit that the car is rugged, fuel efficient and of course it gives you the respect of a govt official .

the only challenge with Peugeot cars are the mechanics- we have alot of clueless ones that are just interested in making money off the car owner.
another challenge i had with the car was the alternator/power steering belt- kept changing it every two months until i finally got an original belt.

chakaz: If ur comparing the lagos working environment and Jos environment and the profit making, what about the environmental risks/crisis prone environment like Jos? Moreso, what about their counter part in Kano and Kaduna that recieves the same pay with the Lagos guys? MTN as an organisation that give out this contract to those organisation/contractors pay them a unified salary structure. Now, tell the reason why these guys' case should be different?

Modern Peugeot Cars, like other cars use sensors all over the car to determine if the whole system is working properly and if one of the components in the car fails or is not working well, the check engine light comes on, warning you of trouble to come.

Now, our mechanics, while being good at the mechanical side (ie. Changing parts) always resort to trial and error(and possibly more damage) when tracing faults beyond their common field of expertise.

I've been a victim (yes victim) of this quackery as I've been using a Peugeot 307 bought brand new since January 2008.

95% of mechanics have no idea of what the Check Engine light means

With this tool, you can do all that an authorized Peugeot Dealer does. It allows you to perform complete diagnostics of all from 1996 till present models via the OBD II connector (The Software would show you the location of this when you select the type of Peugeot you want to scan.

hartabii: well go for manual 406 with EW 12 engine 2002 to 2004 model its better than the V6.When ever it has any problem jst go to mechanics who use laptops 4 diagnosis no guess work.

Or you can Buy the diagnostics machine and direct normal mechanics on what to fix, Its very cheap and lets you do things like programming keys (which some shylocks charge almost 15k for) and others. Mine is up for sale soon

wakbul: I've used 3O7 and my advice is don't buy it. It is a very unreliable and fragile vehicle and it's parts are considerably more expensive. I would never advice anybody to buy 3O7.

I use a 307 too, I thought it was unreliable till I started taking its life in my Hands, doing all the preventive maintenance listed in the manual and co, & I must confess, I'm really enjoying the ride now.
