A LAWYER DOING OKADA BUSINESS

I just came across a lawyer doing Okada business....what an unemployment.

He graduated as a Barrister like 5 years ago, he needed a job, but no good job is forthcoming. He encounter an okada man and they started chatting, he systematically inquired how much they make doing okada business on a daily basis and he was like wow, you may up to N1500 or N2000 as profit for working for 7 hours?

He reasoned that, if i make 1,500 every day for 30 days, that is N45,000 per month, but if i make N2000, that is 60,000. I will work at ease, be my own boss, have time to do other things. I can sometimes work for about 10 hours, that may take my daily income to 3,000 and my monthly to 90,000. that is better than seating down waiting for jobs. What a story.

Nigerian-Americans demand apology from U.S. Senator over distasteful remarks

on October 24, 2013 / in News 10:44 am / Comments

New York – Members of the Christian Association of Nigerian-Americans (CANAN) have called on Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas to make a formal correction by retracting his disparaging remarks made about Nigerians.

According to local American media, Cruz, while taking a political swipe at the computer problems of the Affordable Care Act in the U.S, made unpleasant remarks against Nigerians.

“You may have noticed that all the Nigerian email scammers have become a lot less active lately.

“They all have been hired to run the Obamacare website,” the media quoted Cruz as saying on Monday in Houston.

CANAN in a statement signed by its Executive Director, Laolu Akande said that the US senator had maligned all hardworking, decent and outstanding Nigerian-Americans.

CANAN noted that Nigerian-Americans had added value and brought goodwill to their different communities, especially in Texas, with the largest concentration of Nigerian-Americans in the country.

“Although his office did confirm this, explaining that it was just a joke, CANAN finds it appalling that the good name and reputation of Nigerian-Americans is what the Senator can joke with whimsically.

“This is completely unacceptable. CANAN does not intend at this point to delve into the very nature of global and international scammers.

“We will only say this condemnable practice is not limited to any one country based on available information and research.

“We consider it an insult that a Senator who should be representing the people of his state could turn against some of his very own constituents in what is clearly a reckless and offensive remark.

“There is only one decent option open to Senator Cruz – an unconditional and full apology.

“We will be restrained at this point in order to allow for a respectable response from him,’’ Akande said.

CANAN, however, appealed to its teeming members drawn from over 1,000 local parishes in the U. S, several professional and ethnic groups, to await further developments. (NAN)

PoliticsNigeria’s 1st Revolution by bilms(op): 3:18pm On Oct 24, 2013
NIGERIA’S 1ST REVOLUTION

Corruption as it seems today governs Nigeria, impunity rules, lawlessness is the law and sit-down look is the practice with constant complain without action to remedy the situation.

Revolution in this context is not necessarily about killing the actors like the president, governors, senators, ministers, godfather and what have you, it is rather about making Nigeria ungovernable for the corruption that governs and about making the state unusable for impunity irrespective of the public office or officer.

Nigeria's 1st revolution is about mobilizing Nigerians to simply act against turning Nigeria to a failed nation, and acting against lawlessness and impunity with an effective protest for change.

The Historic Right to Peaceful Protest

Public protest is deeply rooted in Nigeria’s political culture. There have been countless times in the past - even in the recent past - when public demonstrations of support for a cause, or opposition to a policy or government, have changed the course of history. We all know about the mother of Africa, Funmilayo Ransome Kuti, Magreth Ekpo and late Hajiya Gambo whom all achieved great change in their time with effective protest.

In more recent time, we have the memory of the late people’s president, Chief Gani Fawehinmi whose legacy shall remain till eternity. ‘People power' can be a potent political force, whether at a national or at a state level; whether to do with political causes or single issues; whether in support of striking workers or bereaved group, or in opposition to an international issue, or the violation of citizens right. When people have nothing else to fight with, it is often their solidarity with each other - to stand together and be counted across communities and even across states which proves to be their most powerful weapon.

What protest can do

Protests generate media coverage for issues, while also expressing your position to the target of your protest. However, there are going to be times when you can’t resolve the situation amicably, and a protest is an important tool to help get our message out.

Also, be aware that protests do not directly change government policy, only political pressure can do that. The aim of building a movement is to create political pressure, and we don’t need a million people to do that. We need to shake the political support base of the policymakers, and that requires a strategic plan that shows an understanding of the cause beyond what most people are capable of.

For as long as it lasts, we still live in a democracy. Make the most of it.

Since the beginning of time, there have always been conflicts, crisis and wars. This implies that, there have always been insecurity and threats to peaceful living. History established that, powerful nations have always championed cause of oppression and aggression against the less powerful nations, and this manifests in form of colonialism, expansionism, slavery and so on.

Before the emergence of modern nations, wars and conflicts are limited in effect; limited in the sense that, the effect of conflicts are mostly restricted to the parties involved. Though, there are examples of non-actors in conflict situations that were sometimes affected, but the examples are minimal until U.S emerged as the world super power.

According to research, United State of America today poses more threat to world peace than any other threat. History and available evidences show that, for every war or armed conflict in any part of the world, be it in Africa, Middle East, Asia, Europe or other parts of the world, the history of escalation and sustenance of such conflict can be traced back to the activities of the U.S, directly or indirectly. Evidence also shows that the U.S pioneered the greatest threat to insecurity in the world.

Arms proliferation which may be defined as spreading of small arms, weapons designed for use by individuals like pistols, assault rifles, sub machine guns and light machine gun could also be light weapons, which can be deployed and used by group of two or more people. They can also include grenade launchers, portable anti-aircraft and anti-tank guns, as well as recoilless rifles, even missile launchers and mortars less than 100mm, or atomic bombs and other weapons of mass destruction, be it nuclear, biological or chemical, among the state and non-state actors, particularly the criminal mass of people and rogue states. (Traveston and Bennett 1997.). The manufacturing and spread of such weapons are mostly from the super-power nations which US is the most powerful and the availability of such weapons in the hand of criminally minded groups is said to be the major threat to world peace. Again, evidences show that, such weapons are easily bought in U.S to be transported outside the region.

The historic origin of arms proliferation in the modern world can be traced to 1939, when Albert Einstein wrote a letter to the then U.S president, Mr. Roosevelt, informing the president on the need to carry out a project on the U.S atomic bomb and its possibilities. This letter gave birth to the American Manhattan Project in September 1942. But prior to the launching of that project, a soviet scientist, Georgian. Flerov wrote the soviet state defence committee in June 1942 on the need to produce a uranium bomb. This period marked the beginning of arms race in modern history. Thus, according to C.M Robert:

On December 2, 1942, the first chain reaction was achieved at the University of Chicago. Studies have it that, the incident of World War II has had some devastating consequences on mankind as well as global system. The world has been greeted with proliferation of variety of assault weapons and agents of mass destruction, where a mutual difference has taken the form of Mutual Assured Destruction (MAD). The war has marked a new phase in the history of human tragedy.

‘’In 1945 for example, America infested two Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki with pestilence through the use of atomic bombs, which killed tens of thousands of people, as many became deformed. Today, 67 years after the U.S bombardment of these two cities, the local people as well as ecosystem still suffers the effects of devastating damage caused by those military actions.’

‘’During the Potsdam conference (July 24,1945), Josef Stalin of the old Soviet Union was informed by the U.S president, Truman on the intention of the U.S to attack Japan, unless Japan surrendered, with a very destructive bomb that had been developed by the U.S. This bomb would have much devastating and catastrophic effects on human and materials resources. The bomb was atomic bomb.’’ (NOUN INR212)

It was after the U.S show of power and oppressive display of weapons that prompted the USSR to follow suit and engage in massive arm manufacturing which now poses a great danger to the world.

‘’The comparable soviet achievement came on December 24, 1946. The Soviet Union did not produce sufficient plutonium for a nuclear bomb best until 1949. More than four years after the U.S test at Alamagordo, New Mexico (Roberts, 1974.)’’

‘’Studies also have it that after the innovation of the U.S in the development of atomic bomb, the government of Soviet Union reacted swiftly by calling on its scientists and engineers to defend their homeland by building an atomic bomb in no time. The reaction of the USSR government was to check the U.S monopoly of atomic energy or military supremacy, particularly when there was already a cold war existing between the west and east divides. Again, after Soviet Union invention of atomic bomb, a series of caution were made between the U.S and USSR because of their equal power relations to mutual destruction.’’

‘’Five months after the first Soviet nuclear test, the U.S president, Mr Truman announced the intension of the U.S to develop a hydrogen bomb, a quantum jump in explosive power with the aim of maintaining arms superiority. By November 1, 1952, H-bomb (Hydrogen Bomb) was experimentally achieved in the U.S after the August 12 Soviet invention. Initially, these weapons were conceived for delivery by bomber aircraft, A- bombs (atomic bombs),but the vastly greater explosive power of the H-bomb made missile delivery practical in spite of the considerably inaccuracy in the guidance systems in early model of ICBMs.’’(NOUN INR212) This period attracted affection for missile artistry by the then two super powers. (The U.S and USSR) and by 1955, the two super powers had achieved deliverable H-bomb capabilities, but striving vigorously to achieve Inter Continental Ballistic Missile (ICBM) capabilities.

U.S later launched its first nuclear powered submarine and development of huge B-52 bombers. On 26 of August, 1957, the Soviet government announced the first test of an ICBM and six weeks later, she also announced the Sputnik project. Other ballistic missiles already developed were intermediate and medium range ballistic missile (IRBMs and MRBMs). The two super powers later developed (ABM) Anti-Ballistic Missile which the Soviets developed to provide limited defence against the U.S Minuteman Missiles. The U.S developed ABM system before the Soviet Union. The U.S first began with Nike-Zeus and then developed the then more advanced Nike X. Also in the 1960’s, the U.S developed MRV (Multiple Warhead Re-entry Vehicle) carrying a cluster of war heads for a buckshot effect. The U.S also considered in quick succession, the building on the independently guided Multiple Warhead (MIRV). In Texas meeting, the U.S also considered the development of Poseidon, a new MIRV missile for Polaris submarine. (NOUN INR212).

In order to further check the American supremacy in strategic military build-up, the Soviets built new ICBMs, particularly the massive SS-9s as well as many nuclear powered ballistic missile submarines often known as Yankee Class (Y Class),which could match the U.S` Polaris submarines. The Soviet Union also developed surface to air missiles (SAM). China and some other countries have joined the world nuclear powers, and there is an on-going debate on the development of nuclear energy by Iran, which most western nations believe that it would spell a bad omen to the majority of the world population, if the U.S coined member of Axis of Evil, Iran develops it. (NOUN INR212).

Today, every country wants a chemical weapon in fear of being attacked by the US. It is worth noting that, as much as the U.S enjoy free flow of arm production, sales and delivery to ally nations which has been observed as a major threat to world peace, it never seized in such pursuit, but instead wanting to deny other nations of the privilege of enjoying such liberty by coining a relatively unknown name (member of Axis of Evil) to denigrate some nations.

One of the reasons given by the U.S is that these countries may supply some of the terrorist organizations in the world to carry out their nihilist and destructive operations against their target state
and non-state actors.

What many observers of the global system are concerned about is, when did the U.S became the watch dog of the world to determine who does what? At present, U.S is the producer of drones and major producer of weapons of mass destruction despite the ban on such production by the U.N. With the constant terrorist attacks across the world, one begins to wonder where these terrorists’ organizations get their weapons from. There is a ban on the development of some weapons which may be categorized as weapon of mass destruction by the world body, United Nations, but notwithstanding, U.S and some other super powers enjoy the production of these weapons against the law of the U.N without caution.

It is safe to conclude that, the super supers cannot continue to enjoy the liberty of manufacturing or keeping their already manufactured chemical weapons while denying other nations from doing same. If one country shouldn’t have a chemical weapon, no country should.

How to Start Your Own Internet TV Station for Free

Hello dear Nl,

I came across this wonderful page http://www.veoh.com/ which i think can be a starting point for our upcoming TV personality or movie producers to show their talent.

Veoh is a company that has the backing and money of Time Warner, Dick Eisner (Disney) and others. In other words, it is not a fly-by-night.

They offer free memberships, unlimited uploading in size and number. This is good since Myspace and Youtube are really designed for the short-film or snippet.

Once you sign up you can make your profile, upload movies, and more. The only thing is that you cannot schedule times. But then, if you wanted to be like the other channels that do not give people a choice then I am sure you can find a way to schedule a time. If you go PRO, which is also free, you can schedule what date to put on the movie and when to take it off.

The benefits of going to Veoh are as follows:

Free Membership, even for Pros.

Unlimited uploads and size in any format

Pro can have personal branding of station

Have multiple choices for looks or you can create your own.

You can make a series or channel(s)

You can charge rental or own fees.

Viewer Choice. You may have one hundred videos in a certain order, but the viewer chooses what they want to watch.Drawbacks:

Larger files take a long time to process. One of mine took over twelve hours just to give me an error message. That is not the norm, but keep in mind that the larger the file the more time it will take.

Charging for downloads rarely works, people don't buy.

Would like a scheduler just to rotate the movies.I had done my basic videos, but when I wanted a channel I went to public domain property. Most movies and television before 1960 are open game. With a little research you can have access to hundreds of movies and shows.

10 things to know before visiting South Africa
World-renowned chef, best-selling author and Emmy-winning television personality Anthony Bourdain has returned for the second season of CNN's showcase for coverage of food and travel. "Anthony Bourdain: Parts Unknown" is shot entirely on location and airs on CNN International Mondays at 9 a.m. Hong Kong, repeated the following Friday at 10 p.m. HK and Sunday at 9 a.m. HK. Follow the show on Twitter and Facebook.

(CNN) -- South Africa -- it's the part of the continent most of us know at least a little about.

Now almost two decades removed from apartheid, the country at the bottom of the continent has taken up the place it deserves as one of Africa's top tourist destinations.

The country of approximately 52 million people is already well known for Cape Town, Table Mountain, the wine route and game viewing in the Kruger National Park.

But there's much more to discover.

More: 26 most stunning spots in Africa

1. KwaZulu-Natal province inspired one of the world's best-selling albums

Paul Simon introduced the world to isicathamiya music, a form of Zulu a cappella, when he teamed up with Ladysmith Black Mambazo for his album "Graceland."

Named after the KwaZulu-Natal town they come from, Ladysmith Black Mambazo is but one of hundreds of similar groups that can be seen and heard performing regularly at shows that resemble sporting competitions.

Often involving as many as 30 groups, these competitions usually take place in large cities, such as Johannesburg and Durban, starting on a Saturday night and carrying on until well after the sun comes up on Sunday morning.

2. Hippos eat lawns in downtown St. Lucia

The town of St. Lucia sits in the middle of iSimangaliso Wetland Park, a subtropical estuary that's part of a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The 2003 President\'s Cup at South Africa\'s Fancourt Links ended in a historic tie between Tiger Woods and Ernie Els.

Chances of getting mugged or hijacked are virtually nil, but chances of meeting a hippo while walking to dinner are high.

The estuary contains one of the largest concentrations of hippos in the world.

In the evenings, when the sun goes down, they walk into town to munch on lawns in the residential areas.

3. Cape Point isn't the southernmost tip of Africa

It's a common misconception among tourists who trek to the Cape of Good Hope and climb the steps to the lighthouse to assume there's no land between them and Antarctica.

It certainly looks that way from this magnificent viewpoint.

Except for the inconvenient fact that those truly wishing to be at the bottom of Africa have to travel about another 170 kilometers southeast to the rocky outcrop at Cape Agulhas.

One more myth to bust: The Indian and Atlantic oceans don't meet at Cape Point, they meet at Cape Agulhas.
There\'s real snow at Tiffindell Ski Resort. And if there\'s not, they\'ll make some for you.

4. There's 'summer' skiing

Yes, there's downhill skiing in South Africa.

In fact, there's downhill skiing in two countries in southern Africa: South Africa and neighboring Lesotho.

Tiffendell Ski Resort in South Africa's Eastern Cape Highlands and Afriski in Lesotho's Maluti Mountains (both ranges are part of what's more widely known as the Drakensberg Mountains) offer a relatively short season running between June and August, the Southern Hemisphere winter.

Runs aren't long -- about a kilometer in total at each resort -- but there's real snow and when there isn't enough falling from the sky, both Afriski and Tiffendell have snow-making equipment.

5. One street, two Nobel Peace Prize winners

Vilakazi Street punches way above its weight.

Before the arrival of democracy in South Africa, Vilakazi Street looked like any other nondescript dusty street full of matchbox houses in Soweto, near Johannesburg.

But for decades it has been different from its neighbors; it has been and remains a place of pilgrimage as the only street in the world that has been home to two Nobel Peace Prize winners.

Former South African President Nelson Mandela and former Anglican Archbishop Desmond Tutu lived a few doors from each other on Vilakazi Street.

Tutu and his wife, Leah, still live there.

Mandela's house is now a National Historical site and open to the public as a museum.

Vilakazi Street is no longer dusty. The gravel has been replaced by pavement and brick sidewalks and the new neighbors include restaurants, bars and local craft sellers.

6. There's a space shuttle emergency landing strip in the Kalahari Desert

Upington is perhaps the world's most over-achieving small town.

It has a population of just around 75,000 and most South Africans have never been there, but it bills itself as the capital of the Green Kalahari, a setting similar to Cairo on the Nile.

At 4.9 kilometers, the local airport runway is one of the longest in the world and was designated an emergency landing area for the space shuttle should it have had to make an unscheduled landing in southern Africa.

Upington Airport is also the final resting place for numerous commercial aircraft; the dry air helps preserve them in case they're ever called into service again.

The Orange River, South Africa's largest, winds through the city, creating a greenbelt that only just manages to keep the Kalahari Desert at bay.

7. Once you remove the quills, porcupine skin is delicious

Finding traditional dishes that originate in South Africa is a tall order (much of the cuisine is a product of mixing cultures).

But C. Louis Leipoldt, a sort of Renaissance man from the early 20th century, made it one of his lifelong pursuits.

The smallest villages in the Western Cape still try to whip up some of his more famous recipes when the ingredients are available.

Porcupine crackling is one of them.

From his Cape Cookery book, Leipoldt's preparation instructions call for plunging the animal into boiling water, scraping off the quills and hairs, scrubbing the skin until it's perfectly smooth and white and then discarding the meat, which, he says, isn't very nice to eat.
Colonial disaster? Shocking.

8. It's the site of Britain's most shocking military defeat

In early 1879 the British army had state of the art equipment.

Commander-in-Chief Lord Chelmsford thought the barefoot, spear-wielding Zulu forces he was about to attack in what is today the central part of KwaZulu-Natal province would be a walkover.

What he didn't count on was the technique used by the Zulu troops under King Cetshwayo.

In a formation representing the horns and chest of a buffalo, and using short, thrusting spears, the Zulus overwhelmed the British; more than 1,300 of the 1,800 troops the British brought into battle were dead at the end of the day.

The battle is re-enacted regularly and the site at Isandlwana is well maintained with accommodations nearby.

9. SKA isn't music, it's a telescope

Ska is the roots of reggae music that began in Jamaica.

SKA is the Square Kilometer Array, a giant radio telescope being built in the Karoo, a large, semi-desert that fills much of the southwestern part of the country.

The Karoo is located in one of the most remote corners of South Africa. The place is extremely quiet and there's no artificial light nearby.

The SKA telescope will one day look into the universe and collect data 10,000 times faster than has ever been done before.

Covering a square kilometer, the infrastructure won't be completed for another decade.

It's hoped that this multinational megaproject will help us understand where the universe has come from as well as where it's going.

Africa's biggest and oldest trees, baobabs, are found in one of South Africa's driest regions, Limpopo province.

Also known as cream of tartar trees, monkey-bread trees and upside-down trees, kids know them from the "Madagascar" films.

The pulp from the tree contains citric and tartaric acids used as common baking ingredients.

The seeds can be roasted and turned into oil and the fruit is used to make a lemonade-type drink.

Limpopo province is home to a hauntingly beautiful forest of the trees near the border of Zimbabwe. The tree that locals claim is the largest baobab in the world is in nearby Modjadjiskloof.

Standing at 22 meters high and 47 meters in diameter, the center is hollow and has been turned into a bar.

European Football (EPL, UEFA, La Liga)Mourinho's Bold Decisions Are Starting To Pay Off At Chelsea by bilms(op): 5:58pm On Oct 14, 2013
Mourinho's bold decisions are starting to pay off at Chelsea

Jose Mourinho's handling of Juan Mata has turned Chelsea supporters against him but the Spaniard's recent play has validated the head coach.

Jose Mourinho's return to Chelsea hasn't been as straightforward as he probably expected.

"You're not special anymore," is the new chant of choice for rival fans looking to bait Mourinho at Chelsea's away games. Fair enough, considering his "second coming" at Stamford Bridge got off to a faltering start. Defeats to Basel and Everton left questions hanging about the true merits of his managerial skill and the latest Chelsea squad. Even the most loyal Chelsea fan has probably questioned his decision to sideline star Juan Mata and loan out promising Romelu Lukaku.

But why would you ever doubt Mourinho?

Growing evidence suggests that he, again, knows exactly what he is doing, and is not frightened of making contentious calls to get exactly what he wants.

Take Mata, for example. The Spanish playmaker had won Chelsea's Player of the Year award two seasons running, but Mourinho saw a footballer who did not work hard enough when the team had lost possession. Left out of the matchday squad altogether against Fulham, Mata listened, learned and adapted. A hard-working display in a League Cup tie at Swindon prompted Mourinho to observe, "He has come a long way to meet me. So I will meet him. He's a good boy, a good pro."

Mata's match-changing cameo from the bench in the next game at Spurs signaled his rehabilitation, and good results followed. Chelsea went on to win well in Bucharest and at Norwich, and there are ominous signs that the Stamford Bridge messiah is starting to re-shape this team to his liking.

Now on to Lukaku. Time will tell if Mourinho is right to so readily dispense with the services of the prolific, young striker. Lukaku has scored four goals in three games for Everton thus far, but Mourinho doesn't seem to regret the decision, despite none of his strikers getting on a league-match score sheet yet. Asked about the Belgian's goal-getting start at Goodison, Mourinho rather arrogantly said, "Everton is not Chelsea."

Mourinho's risky call can only truly be evaluated in May, by which time we will know if either Fernando Torres, Samuel Eto'o or Demba Ba has filled the problem No. 9 position with any success. None of those three have had a major impact so far, though Torres's second half display at Spurs, until his red card, was a revelation. He was almost unplayable for 20 minutes, it's typical of his Chelsea career that he should be injured just as he appeared to strike form.

Another big Mourinho call in recent games has been to drop England's Gary Cahill and send Kevin De Bruyne to football's equivalent of Siberia. Again, that will be the manager's way of telling those players that they are not satisfying his stringent, tactical demands. The fact that John Terry, often omitted by Rafa Benitez, is back as leader of the pack is another indication of Mourinho's thinking. Bit by bit, he is reassembling the Chelsea jigsaw to produce a picture he likes.

He knew he had flair to burn with the likes of Eden Hazard, Oscar and Mata on the scene. But he also saw a team where the balance between creativity and work rate -- silk and steel -- were not quite right. His new Chelsea are not the finished product, but you sense they are starting to engage a higher gear.

In a season where upsets are always likely to be on the cards, it might be the team making the fewest mistakes that will prevail. With the streetwise Mourinho at the helm, that team might well be Chelsea.
